Very rare piece... Seen just one here in kaduna. My mechanic was in doubt so we checked the manual and documentation. It was definitely a bigger spec even jst by the sound of the ENGINE.

chaircover: It depends on the car. A Black prado will always look nicer than a white Prado, but a white Merc C class looks better in white than in black (in my eyes anyway LOL)

White is easier to keep clean believe it or not and is more forgiving of minor dents. You will also spend more time waxing a black car to bring out the sheen than you would a white car.

God willing, my next car will be in white. They just look so clean and crisp and they really stand out.

I agree with U, abeg no laff me ooh cos white cars 2 me tend to have 'RICH' appearance than other regular colors.

This there new ALIEN LOOKS styling is giving concern in the looks department.
That small turbo engine is something else, even some of its bigger brothers will struggle to beats it on dead heat sprint.

And that 508 is no match for an accord of the same year so yes i will choose the accord. The 508 is a large family car and it doesn't even have a v6 option. Even the 407 that it replaced had a v6 option. Don't even tell me about the peugeot 508 GT because i already know about it. 2.2L diesel engine with only automatic, no manual option. The 508 GT is a great car, but the pricing brings it down for me. Starting at $55,000 and with no navigation? I thought navigation are becoming standard in newer cars. With navigation and other options u are looking at about $60,000 . That is enough money to get u a new mercedez benz e350 or a bmw 528i

Brother u try, when I talk my own the guy say 'make I waka pass'. The truth is the PAN cars prices dnt rly match their built.
Ur even goin 2 far abt the 528i or E350, cos I will pick a beemer 135i over that 508. But it all goes down to the choice cos some jst want something big that goes from point A to B...... But for me it has 2 go from A to B fast.

Abeg make we debate is it worth it.

Have spent the last couple of days searching for info on newer model of C-klass kompressor variant but have observed that not much improvement have been made as regards performance. U'll think that since the W202 C230K that almost 15yrs now that we'll have a C-kompressor engine kicking less than 7 second to 60mph. But no, all they do is new interior and looks. Even a 2013 C250 coupe will fall behind a baby beemer 135i.

I guess said to say my W202 will be the last compressor I will spend my money on cos any engine short of 250hp and 250 lb/ft of torque is just not good enough this days.

aikerism: I fill her up with roughly N6,500. I reset to 000.0 and most times at half tank I half tank I would have two ninety somthing Km and a lil higher if I use cruise control. It generally depends on my driving...
If I fire like mad I will achieve a lower economy... One other factor that affects our fuel consumption here is traffic. We see hell in the mornings trynna go to work and even worse in the evening to get home. Most times your fuel won't last as long as it should.
But for highway I may not be able to calculate all that miles per galon ishh but in August I did Umuahia to Karu in Abuja with 3/4 of my tank (with the AC on all through) I think that is fair enough... Uncle Hannsen, Smartchoice, Gee @ house what do you all think?

If ur tank is 62litrs, on the highway u shld be able to do over 400km if ur range is btw 80 to 120km/hr.

W205 C-class is around the corner... Word on the street is that AIRMATIC will come in as options on some models.

Do physical examinations on the pushings any one that looks worn out or crack down then you replace such

For the steering , make sure you aint short of steering pump oil, if so then , jack up the car and do physical examination on yoy steering ball and socket, same manner like above and on the front legs, any movement indicate a sign of wear , simply replace that too

Was driving a client in my car days ago, he noticed a how hard I was revving my engine he turned and said 2 me ' u go kill ur engine ooh'. In my mind all I can say is that 'u think say na that lazy 2010 honda accord V6 wey u dey drive'

A friend got tired trying 2 sell a W202 engine cos most engine hardly go bad. They ended up selling it cheap to a mechanic.

For speed enthusiast, go for the w203 c350 and you'll never regret it , cos you could achieve 0-60 mph in just 6.4 seconds (as against 9.7 sec for the w203 c180) wt 7 speed auto and 6 speed manual tranny, with a very fair mpg of about 21 cty and 40 h/w(as against 25cty 48 h/w for the c180) for this 6 cylinder ride with a top speed of 250km/h, she beats a lot of the so call 8 cylinder rides in other automobile, not even the BMW 3series of her category can stand it. If my pockets swells , i'll pick this too for journey sake and oppression on the h/w[/quote]That C350 shld be the top dogg of all the regular C-class apart from the AMG. 6.4sec that's neck breaking fast ooh.

That 06/07 top dogg 335i does 5.5sec as claimed by beemer but a couple of guys have actually been able to achieve 4.8sec with the manual shifter.

So like I said those guys can not be trusted.

House please help a brother out, lately I have been trouble with steering rattle and rear squeaks in my W202 any time am on bad roads.

I need the house to help me list all the suspension component with pictures if possible so I cld replace mine to see if it helps. Have already bought the ball joint(front and rear) picking up the tie rods (front and rear) 2moro.

Eyop: My brother i understand your love for your W202 but you need to also consider depreciation on it. You need to advance same way technology is advancing so with time target the w203 or the w204. But for me if i have the cash i will pre-order the W204 straight away and after using it for like 2 to 3years i will sell and buy a newer model bro.

Actually the aim is to relegate the 230K to a full time site car and utility that's y am shopping for possibly a coupe for weekends and highway 'madness'.

The white trend is fast catching up in Naija.
If I will own a white car it definitely will be a coupe and not an everyday car.

My friend just bought a 2008 accord in white color, it looks neat and even more expensive than he paid.

The w202 c class model started in 1994- 2000 with the facelifted models from 1997-2000. so there's isn't a significance difference between 1999 and 2000 model.

while the w203 started from 2001- 2007; the w204 from 2008 and till date..your 1999 or 2000 model is probably one of the most reliable MB ever produced better than her earlier predecessor w202 of same model because the wire harness issues, the bad actuator(were actually recalled), etc These issues were resolved in this model. Infact some of the engine components that were shared with the w201 like the power steering pump, ABS system, the clutch module mechanisms and so on and so forth were all completely revised for good and a better built MB. Infact even the nuzzle module too were completely modified, though they can all fit into each other, alongside the pumpers and side skirting or running board giving it a more sportier look and responsive than her predecessor. My early model c180 esprit carries the facelifted body of the late w202 except the front bumper which i change but couldnt find same to replace..and i love it so much. infact i changed the nuzzle system, the wire harness, the clutch mechanism, plugs wire too to that of the facelifted model. NB,The w202 on her own is far more efficient than the w201

The w203 on the other hand, have more sportier and sharper chassis,even sportier than the BMW 3 series, and are more responsive and fuel efficient than the w202 of same category number( i.e w203 c180 to w202 c180 and so on) with more electronics and an expensive aura but not as reliable as the w202. Its more up in maintenance than the w202. You can drive the w202 for a whole year without fixing anything if you have kept it in order but not so with the sleeky sportier fuel efficient performer w203. Also, the engine of this car w202 cost just 60k naira,far more cheaper than that of the w203 and u would never have any reason for a replacement cos it can last almost for ever so that dosent even cross my mind.

So now the choice is yours as to what you are really looking out for ..As for me i have one of the most efficient w202,the c180 and i enjoy it , i love it but at the same time i'm attracted to the w203 late models[i][/i] , i always have ecstasy each time a clean one drives pass me-i'll still go for the c180k or c200k of the w203. After all, with my w202 c180, i have done a top speed of almost 200km/h (my bigger tires of 215/65/15 aided me to achieve this fits else the top speed of this car is 193km/h but the speedo carries 240km/h) how much more the w203 6 speed manual transmission of a top speed of about 223km/h and 234km/h respectively for the c180k and c200k, though the speedo carries 260km/h in both cases.

Bros hmmm na wa ooh. Those BMW pple dnt tell us the truth, am not sure that C350 will out gun a 335i. Those beemers are very understated that's y a F10 M5 will bash an E63 AMG series 2, jaguar XFR, porches panamera S in a straight drag race to 150mph. Thesame reason a 760LI will punish a S63 AMG series 2 both on a track and drag race. Thesame reason a dodge VIPER SRT (V10) will strugle to beat a mere bmw Z4m(V6) around a track. So those beemers are sleeping rockets not to be trusted.

Guddy: Thanks oga Gee. I'll go for the C180 since it's going to be my first personal car. Let me have my first MB experience with it. But another thing is that I will be traveling with the vehicle from Sagamu where I work to Edo state at least twice monthly, will the 180 serve this purpose? My dad is also MB fan and has asked me to go for it that I will not regret it. I will continue to follow this thread.

Trust us here, that C180 is more than enuf. U will not regret it at all for the fact that its ur 1st time u'll be loving it for a long time. Please make sure u buy a sound one with no check engine lights on but if u most buy with the lights on pls get a discount cos it will eventually cost more to fix.

Guddy: @All am planning to get my first MB car, a 1999/2000 c class and I was discussing with a friend about it. He said something about the car always having brainbox/electrical issues that I should think twice. Please what can you guys say about this?

Also what's the difference between the c classes 180, 200, 220, 280 and want are the likely challenges one will probably experience with the c class?

Welcome on board in advance... And for the brain box issue no mind that guy. Is like telling u that only benz car consume fuel. Every car can have issue it all depends on how u manage ur car and care for it. I've open my brain box 'ECU' several times by myself and replaced a chip in it.
If u buy late models 99/00 of the car there's hardly going to be any electrical issue and please when u go to car wash avoid those ignorant ppl splashing water at every compartment of ur car.

If u want economy a 4cyl C180 will do and if u want performance a 4cyl C230 kompressor or 6cyl C280 will do. All depend on ur pocket sha, once again welcome in advance.

icemann: I cannot believe you typed this . Basic physics knowledge of motion tells you friction is need to stop. And don't believe everything you see online.

When you skid you have very low coefficient of friction. You need friction to stop and the traction for control of the car.

So tell me how does NO traction help in breaking and maneuvering?



ABS system gives the breaking fluid a pulse like motion when its applied. The pulse gives intermittent grip same idea of pumping your break. The idea comes from the inverse reation ship of heat and friction ie the hotter an object the less the friction. When your break locks the disc are to hot the pad almost glides on it (reason for the invention of ventilated brake disc).

That's y its cost so much and BREMBO are making so much money on those vented disc.

My ARCHITECH friend was in town 2day and we were so happy cos its been 2yrs since we saw each other. He came in shiny W203 C240 and I showed up in my old school W202 C230KOMPRESSOR. After all the pleasantries we decided 2 test each others ride. He took my car and quickly zoomed off out of site while I was still tryn 2 figure of the A/C control.

As soon as I got all that out the way, I pushed it as hard as I cld but only caught up at the finish line. I no go lie, that V6 of the C240 sounded rly sweet.

Next up was a straight on drag race, and not surprising 2 me the KOMPRESSOR was off and gone again, no matter how hard I squeezed the C240 I cld not match up.

I brought all this up not to be-little that C240 cos at the finish line I notice that his check engine light was on then I knew that was the issue. The point am trying to make is as long as that CEL stays on then the car is not performing at 100 percent. I love my C230K tho and am quite sure even with everything ok with his C240 he will strugle to out pace me any given sunday.

No matter what u driver, car, train, bicycle,plan or keke......the faster u go the longer distance it takes 2 stop. The ABS in mercedes cars work in conjunction with ESP (electronic stability program) mostly preventing unnecessary wheelspin and direct the power to the wheel that requires it. Speeding in town is a reckless way of using ur car most pple have not changed their brake pad in a year and yet expect instant stopping force when no be BREMBO them they use.

Camry is the most reliable of toyota's.
