Car TalkRe: Fastest Speed You Have Ever Driven: Car, Place, Time? by Gee2728(m): 2:51pm On Sep 15, 2013
Sleek Reek: Between Agbo and Onitsha on the express,i did 190km/Hr with a C230 4cylinder Kompressor Benz. I didn't feel a thing,no vibration,no wind noise, but before this in a 2002 Toyota 4 cylinder Camry along Asaba/Kwale road i did 170Km/Hr and it wasn't a funny experience, the car was vibrating, didn't stay on that speed for too long, the ride didn't exude confidence for me.
na true u talk abt ur C230 kompressor, when bought mine last year pushed it to the limit @ kaduna-Abuja expressway and clocked abt 228km/h on a stretch it was wow feeling.

@ trac regarding ur take on a.u hanson, 'no be fight' that's y the forum is here. Pple should share wat they'v tried and it works. Example when I bought my W202 C230k after every 10k miles when I service it I take it for the trip computer to be reset at a price. But I came across a video online and I did it myself the next time. We should not underestimate the power of experience even this manufacturers rely on somtimes things they have discovered accidentally by experience.

Siena: The first thig I did was have my pal run a full scan of all modules in the car. As Lancashire is 265 miles away from me, it didn't make sense to drive that far, just to have a "look". If I travel that far, it means I've pretty much made up my mind to purchase.

My pal was up North, so I got hime to check the beast out. With a video link set up, we both did a walk-round inspection, then the interior. All checked out perfect. Then came the scan, using none other than ****. This is dealer level, and hard to beat. Perfect!

All I did this morning was ring up my insurance company, and have the insurance on my sold Audi A4 Avant Quattro B6 transferred to the new purchase.

My coach departs London Victoria at 17:30, and my travel itinerary reads like this:

Hayes --> London Victoria --> Accrington, Lancashire.

I'm just waiting for my taxi, which I've booked for 16:00 for the first leg of my journey. It's going to be a long trip! I most likely won't be home till 04:30 hours. The journey back promises to be much faster, smoother, luxurous and above all, a darn sight more enjoyable!
got me all smiling, that sweet feel of taking delivery of a new ride.. You guys are so lucky out there on how easy u can switch insurance from car to car. It has to be another AUDI cos when it comes 2 big AWD, none does it better. Safe trip.

Dsannin: On another note guys, say i was to have about 1.8mil to 2.0mil, would i be able to get a good x5 within that range. Then, how reliable is the x5 off the tarmac i know its classified as an SAV but i mean its all or four wheel drive whats the point of that if it will get stuck in mud or sand. Finally would you guys suggest an x3 even though i think the ground clearance is sub par to other vehicle of its class?
bro pls I beg u leave a 2.0mil X5 alone. It maybe a high mileage or something is up with it. They are mostly easy to run as brand new. And I hope u dnt need it as an everyday car cos the fuel consumption is not too good. This big german cars are heavily over-engineered so there's bound to be issue here and there. Remember to whom much is given much will be expected. Pls let's buy our cars wisely.

Most of the politicians and gov officials I work for have this big SUV( range, X5, LX e.t.c) but they dnt use them as daily drives with all the money they have. There's always a PAN 406 somewhere in the compound. That's jst my own advice.

Dsannin: This thing people have for manual gears still baffles me oh. I drive a 99/2000 bmw 318ci and its automatic with the steptronic and i know how fast it goes. manual would just add so much calculations to a speedy exit or getaway. i only use the steptronics to downshift but hey we are in nigeria afterall this only happens on ozumba at close to midnight. On another note i loooooove the 1 series and yes the 135i, its a smaller car with a bigger engine thats what i am looking for now mehn, i wonder how much it goes for?
true talk, those steptronics are quite good. But hope say u no 4get say that ur 318ci is the slowest of the ci, I bliv if its matted with a 5speed manual u'll get more out of it than the auto shift. Most bmw are high reving engine so how do u do dat on an auto shift.
Car TalkRe: Car Brands/models You Wouldn't Want To Use Ever Again (from Previous Experience) by Gee2728(m): 11:53pm On Sep 11, 2013
elektra80: The problem Nigerians have is trying to treat a modern car the same way they treat the older ones. I used a mazda 626 for 3 years without issue, then used a Ford Mondeo 1993 model for 5 years, no issues before giving it to my brother. Used a 2001 Honda accord (babyboy) for 3 years, no issues whatsoever, just normal oil and brakepad change. Tranny and engine are still top notch. I have been using a 2005 Accord for 3 years now and I haven't had any issue with it. It still drives like new. The problem we have is having a bad maintenance culture. I will give u an example.

I have a personal scanner I use in scanning my own car myself to pull the codes and tell my mechanic what to fix. I see a lot of cars on our roads with CHECK ENGINE LIGHT and ABS light on.. but because we are ignorant and probably the whack mechanics tell us it doesn't matter, we keep driving. Whenever I have a check engine light on my car I don't take it lightly like most Nigerians do, I make sure I fix the problem and make the light go away, that is the only time I can feel safe driving the car. A 2005 Honda accord was brought to my mechanic shop last week, because the mechanic doesn't have a scanner he called me and I helped him scan the car. Lots of things were wrong with the car, the thermostat has been removed, the fans were connected directly, the TPS (throttle position sensor) is bad and the ECS (Engine coolant sensor) was disconnected. The owner still drives the car like that until it stopped moving and was towed to the workshop. I also noticed the gear has been worked on which the owner confirmed. I then asked him what ATF was used after working on the gear and he said the mechanic that worked on it used ABRO. Imagine Abro ATF on a honda accord 2005 model. Now the car needs a new transmission and lots of sensors to be replaced to get the car running normal. Now ask this owner and he will tell u he will never buy a Honda again, but its his lack of maintenance that cost him the car. The car has been parked there for a week now because no money to fix it. I have seen someone driving a car with flashing D light and he told me nothing is wrong with the car as it is still moving.

My point is, there is no perfect car, all car have their problems, but our maintenance culture determines how a car would last. And please nairalanders, don't ignore a check engine light on ur cars, it is there for a reason. If u can't take care of ur cars then its better to be driving a 1990 camry, at least they have less sensors and can be subjected to lots of abuse grin grin grin grin grin grin
I agree with u bro. I once use a 2004 accord it was my 2nd car after the 2000 accord. With all the money at my disposal still the lazy mechanics were still finding it hard 2 fix little issue till I eventually got fed-up and sold it for a 2000 W202 C230 kompressor.

My point is as easy as a honda setup is this mechanics still end up f**king it up. So honestly its jst a personal opinion I'll rather buy any german car than deal with such incompetence.

Like u said about having a scanner, most times I diagnose the fault on my mercedes b4 I go to the mechanic then tell them what I want done on it. For mercedes, there's no way u'll drive ur car with the check engine light and enjoy it so I make sure I fix my fault as they come cos failure to do so result in more fault.

yungboss: it's my aim to get a '97 M3 through Siena's assistance, '97 manual, already enquired, but my madam wouldn't want a BMW..."old car" in her words (women and their ways, lol). I'm still trying to work on her mind...i told her "manual Shift" and she was like "You dont want me to drive..."
but i'm only worried about the M3's maintenance in Nigeria.
Does it share parts with the ''96/97 328i
Does it use Brembo Brakes?
. Parts sharing, of course it does afterall its a pumped up 3 series. But there are certain parts that are exclusively for the M3. For brembo brakes, those are after market parts which can be fitted on almost any brand.

About that whole manual shifter me too am doing my research quietly cos my wify too no want hear that one at all.

@Trac, if I may ask is using mobil 1 fully synthetic on a W202 kompressor engine an over-killhuh. I do so cos I want to get the issue of regular service out of the way and cos I travel a lot.

Sadly, lately every thing is automatic. Have been in the market for a E36 328i manual gear or a E39 530i manual shifter but it so hard 2 find one. Am not even sure costom will clear such a old car coming into this country. It so sad how the good times are fading away, its bye bye to the hard shifting by urself.

ziccoit: @Gee2728, I read your comment where you mentioned how you change your AT fluid sometimes ago. Which type of ATF did you use? What year is your w202? Is it 5sp or 4sp?
the last time it was my coolant that I changed. But if its the ATF ur asking about its mercedes brand. It comes in a container similar as posted below. My car its a 2000 model with 5sp.

Eyop: My bros you are really enjoying this your ride oh. I can't just wait for my own to arrive so that i can enjoy what you guys are enjoying.
am rly enjoying the car ooh my bro. Days that am work free at home I open her up and explore new things about her. I noticed that som1(maybe the A/C tech) had block two pipes that had to do with the heating/cooling system with pure water wrapper, so I removed it. But so far so good I have not notice any difference yet.

Those are som of the reasons y I try stuffs myself most times. I learn a lot from NL, CLUB202 and google. There's no harm trying. Imagine I once paid 1K to reset my service mileage what a waste cos now I can do it my self. There's so much abt our cars we cld do ourself. Wish u all the best when urs get to town.

Car TalkRe: At What Age Did You Buy Your First-Car And How Much Then? by Gee2728(m): 2:14pm On Sep 05, 2013
Got my first car in 2010 at the age of 29. It was a 2000 honda accord for #1,110,000, after 3 months I was bored and traded it off for a 2004 honda accord for #1,600,000. The EOD lasted for about 8 months then it started given all sort of issues and what got me rly pissed is the fact that as simple as the tech in this honda cars are and with all the funds at my disposal this tech guys were finding it hard to get it fix. The A/C got bad, the car lost performance so I eventually traded it off for a 2000 W202 C230k @ #1,300,00. Am a building engineer that's my only source of income for now.
Car TalkRe: Mercedes Benz Thread by Gee2728(m): 1:28pm On Sep 05, 2013
Visited a friend at home and when I got in my C230k to go I noticed the check light came on so I pack and pop the hood. I fired the trotle using the cable then I noticed the S/C clutch was reluctant to spin, infact it got to abt 4K rpm b4 it started spinning so I drove home cos I dnt have any money for such an unplanned repair. A day latter at my free time at home I pop the hood disconnected the S/C power switch and then connected it back. Started the car and rev it up and the clutch started to spin with little effort and to crown my finger tricks the check engine light went OFF.

My point is let's take time to get to know our cars it will save us some cool cash only God knows what the tech guys wld have said was wrong. Its been about a week now and its still runs smooth.
