France? So how is the system there like? Do fresh graduates rush for Master's degree or simply go for a professional course?

I know the situations may differ as per economic terrain and unemployment level...
In France they have the double degree programme, you study for 3years go to another European country study for one year. And then get a BEng + Msc.

Maybe u need to know the reasons why the man asked her to submit her salary to him

Because the reason she gave is not sufficient enough for that man to have taken such a drastic decision.

Maybe the man sees that your friend is not prudent with her salary or she is leaving above her salary or he sees some hanky panky
She's his wife and not his daughter

@op, but your friend has options now? either she submit her salary or carefully leave the marriage. There can't be two captains in a ship. The only thing I will say here is she should give it a trial for 2 or 3months and see what her husband plans are. If he squanders the money, then she should not submit subsequent ones and that would be her basis of argument should the marriage fail.

Bro they are more or less the same, getting a good job with fixed term visa is difficult, even when the UK gives 2yrs work visa after graduation you hardly get a good permanent job with it because employers know that the visa term is fixed and un-extendable. Yes the 2yrs visa gives you the opportunity to explore other options or work part time to get your fees back.
True though. I'm working hard and actually enjoying my studies, but the thought of what will happen at the end of my studies bothers me.

I don't want to go back to Nigeria and move about searching for jobs

Tnx for that insight Bro...this is really what i needed to hear.
I know u know about my intended sponsor... Problem is they have a fixed amount which wouldn't cater for those expensive UK schools... Secondly, they have approved institutions, MAINLY in the UK were they sponsor students to...the credible schools they have in that list may be Cranfield, Aberdeen and Leeds... rest u may regard as Cheap... and the cost for tuition in these schools is pretty high considering the budget...
If I mat ask, what would you adrvise considering all these?
I recommend Aberdeen and Cranfield personally.

Tnx a lot, justwise and spikesC... have checked the link and I think I'd settle for Coventry for other reasons, including sponsor's approved institution... what I need now is a candid review by someone who've studied mech engr or any engineering related course their... or if you know someone who've done so... I've seen some little reviews online, but none have been detailed enough...I won't derail this thread again after this... thanks
I think it's not a wise decision. Getting a job after Msc is very difficult but trying to get a job with a degree from these cheap schools may even be worse. Think long and hard before you commit that kind of money to the UK education system.

Try good schools in China,Australia, America and maybe singapore

Think of return on investment, can I get a job in nigeria? Can I use this degree to get a job anywhere in the world?

The UK immigration policy has been designed to frustrate immigrants in terms of job opportunities in the country.

If you must come the UK, go to a reputable school. It increases your chances of getting a job.
It is just a personal opinion.

how can we verify the integrity of this data? Will it be like when Mrs Iweala told us that buses are on the way to cushion the effect of subsidy removal? Or like when Labaran Maku told us that within 2 years we will be seeing the effect of subsidy removal positively?

My point is that Nigerian governments not just GEJ,boths state(fashola inclusive) and federal are notorious for generate often false data points that cannot be support with evidence.

Apparently you are doing subsea engineering. I'll advise you pick reliability engineering because it's applicable in all engineering areas, in fact any good system needs reliability. However, it depends on what you'll eventually do in life. going much into structures and stability calculations, you MAY need FEA.
Thanks bro
Jobs/VacanciesRe: UK Master Degree Holder Got A 40k Job; Accept Or Reject? by GeneralShepherd(m): 7:29am On Oct 26, 2014
The fact remains that when most Nigerians are in the Uk they forget to apply for jobs both here and in Nigeria and also fail to add strategic value to themselves.

Imagine if your friend could speak French as well as English language, imagine if he had been applying to Nigeria whilst studying, imagine if he can draught engineering drawing in autocad, Finite element analysis, etc.

When you are in school Nigeria or foreign , in your masters or bachelors degree level always keep your eyes on the bigger picture.

Apply for jobs. Btw I will not take a 40k job. A barbing saloon will yield more than that in a month.

HealthRe: Ebola: Lagos Okays N50m Grants To First Consultant Medical Centre by GeneralShepherd(m):
pendy79:
When a government with human face runs a society, the people rejoices. First Consultant has been a shadow of itself since the Patrick Sawyer unfortunate incident. Loss of patronage will lead to loss of revenue which will lead to laying off of staff and workers by the hospital despite the huge role it played in stemming the spread of Ebola. God bless and rest the soul of Dr. Adadevoh for the supreme sacrifice she paid.

Now we have a clueless and irresponsible president who said since he approved 1.9billion Naira to fight Ebola then the glory of it's eradication should be addressed to him despite coming to Lagos for a stupid and illegal rally, he didn't deem it fit to visit this hospital to emphasize and sympathize with the owner and other survivor of the plague.

If 1.9billion was approved for the fight against Ebola and both Lagos and Rivers States acknowledged receiving 200million each. To what use was the balance of 1.5billion Naira put to, that the Minister of health could not assist this hospital out of the balance for its lost of patronage and business that a fashola has to deep into the limited state resources to come to the aid of the hospital.

Prosperity and history will never FORGET fashola and same prosperity and history will never forget a Jonathan that ruled this country in the most inept, daft and soulless manner.
How did we get to this point in our Nationhood? Obj I hope you will continue to seek forgiveness and the favour of God over the clueless and dunce you imposed on this Nation despite the huge array of good governors in 2007. Donald Duke was a shinning light yet you foist this corrupt rogue on this Nation.

Come 2015 we are taking our Nation back to the path of greatness and end the 15 years of the locust of the PDP

God Bless you Gov. Fashola, may history be fair on you.
It is posterity not prosperity, there is a significant difference. If you want to criticize the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,at least do so in correct, concise and clear English.

The government at any level does not owe First Consultants a dime, why?

1. It is a private hospital

2. The government nor its employers did not refer Sawyer to the hospital and hence should not bear any form of responsibility for the incidence.

3. First consultant should have been covered by insurance, but I will not be surprised if they do not have one.

LESSON: Insure your private properties, your life and your business.

A better use of this N50 million Naira and more money to be shared, is to strategically plan for the future. In as much as WHO has declared Nigeria Ebola free, we should all bear in mind that we are in close proximity geographically to epicenter of this ebola outbreak.

A better alternative to the use of the N50 million, should be

i. Investing in the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) towards ebola research.
ii. Developing a robust response plan not just for ebola, but for future disease outbreaks and possible biological weapons attack.
iii. Helping the families of victims that were killed by ebola

APC is just playing to the gallery. The political class in Nigeria ( PDP, APC et al ) are all selfish, unintelligent clueless group of people. Their only collective plan ( APC,PDP et al ) is to loot this country dry.

A thought came to my head today as I was pondering what I learnt in school today about Fick's law. Adolph Fick proposed two laws in 1855 that guide mass transfer, one for steady state transfer and the other for transient transfer.

He then went on to relate his laws to Ohm's law and heat transfer. By this relation he explained that current is simply an electron flux and heat is likewise a thermal energy flux.

The relevance of this jargon in the first two paragraphs, is not clear yet. But what if I told you that Adolph Fick was a medical doctor? You would expect someone that came up with these laws and subsequent relationships to be either a physicist or an engineer. Alas he is a doctor. Funny enough this law is still applied in 2014, almost 159 years later to design complex engineering materials.

Moral of the story,
i. follow your passion and dreams.

ii. It is not too late to do what you really love.

iii.It is not too late to learn anything.

iv. You are more likely to stay committed to your dreams if you are passionate about it

And I leave you with a quote from Albert Einstein.

“I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”

― Albert Einstein
