TayserMahiri: Kibaki's achievement was merely grabbing Kenya's ass from a dangerous economic downturn under Moi and setting Kenya on the right path with some truly admirable goals. Yea, he is Kikuyu hiiiii, i get, buh i wanted u to pin-point some of his major achievements just as i did Goodluck Are u kikuyu? |

Hati13: Yes, they are dominating. They are minority compared to Amharas and Oromos, but large percentage of top officials in the government and armed forces are Tigrays. Most of the soldiers in the armed force are also Tigrays. Most of the Amharas, Oromos and others in the government and armed force are puppets to the TPLF.
Those who challenged them had faced the consequences of being fired from their jobs and for some, their life had been purposely been destroyed. Oooh, that's terrible Why would the Tigrays be against the Amharas as such? I thot u guys spoke similar dialects, are culturally related n see yourselves as one Habesha people Most times we feel Amharas are the ones dominating others in Ethiopia, i have also read somewhere where someone said Oromos r now dominating Ethiopia. It's really confusing i must say. |

9jakool: *No, my reaction is not misplaced.
Age is not the main factor in economic development. New York city was the capital of the US for just 5 years (1785-1790) until a new capital, Washington was drafted and planned becoming the capital from 1790 till present day, which is more than 200 years so far now. But you know what, even with that age, New York is still the commercial and financial capital of the US till today.
This case is very similar to Abuja. Abuja like Washington was founded as the administrative capital, and not as an economic capital. Lagos was established as a port due to access to the sea, similarly to New York which helped manufacturing and commerce grow. Although with some exceptions, artificial cities a lot of the time lack multi-economic purpose.
Why did I say this? A lot of the large cities we see in the world today have multi-economic functions. Lagos, New York, Tokyo, Sydney etc all have large ports for shipping, trade, industries, etc. Even cities that are landlocked like Johannesburg developed due to their economic platform like mining which created industries, finance, and later on tourism. What economic platform does Abuja serves? Abuja was not created to become the economic hub of Nigeria, it was founded for administrative purpose like Washington, Brasilia, Ottawa, Canberra etc. Today these cities are not the largest or the economic hub of their respective countries. There are of course notable exceptions like Dubai. Dubai even though artificially created, has many functions. It was created as an economic hub (financial and commercial hub) and not with an administrative role. That is why Dubai is not the capital of the UAE and Abu Dhabi is. Dubai as an artificial city especially in its grandiose nature created the identity which boosts its tourism.
Ok, as an investor, what niche will attract me to invest in Abuja as opposed to Lagos? What is Abuja known for?
I want the federal govt to continuing investing in Lagos? I do not understand the nature of this question. When the federal gov was developing Abuja, so much money was consumed in development than Lagos. Lagos actually had decades of neglect following its glory days. It's not until recently that the state government started implementing a master plan by creating different initiatives to drive growth and development. Hmmm, holly Abuja n Lagos r unique in their own ways, so i see no reason for any argument. N centenary city Abuja is not being funded by the Nigerian govnmt, so u can take it easy please. Thank God u mentioned Dubai, centenary city can make Abuja very much like Dubai if completed. Most of the building n constructions done in Abuja were primarily for administrative purposes. The fed govt has not done much to boost the economic capacity of the city n i think that is what they are about to do with the world trade centre n centenary city. So let's wait n see before passing judgements, dont u think? Just like nowenuse, i thnk i have to say that i do not see the need for your grievances towards Abuja (m sorry if i sounded rude). ****N by the way, how do u measure the GDP of Abuja to ascertain it's economy? I have never seen a report on it. |

TayserMahiri: That first question only ladies like you (and Nowenuse) can answer There are many handsome Kenyan men, but of course depending on tastes. Such things are very subjective. The second guy is called Omar Hamza, he's an actor and I think hes from the coast I think he is Swahili from the name. If you like him you might also like this DJ known as Jamal Gaddafi from the coast too, he kills kenyan girls. He's Swahili too Hahaha, So does this means that Kenyan muslims are more good looking than Kenyan christians? Cos yaah this Jamal Gaddafi of a guy looks very cute. Him and Omar Hamza look cuter than all the other Kenyan guys we have posted (except for Kevin Owiti) which ethnic group is Owiti of if i may ask? ****N another thing is that these Kenyan swahili guys look so much like Nigerian igbo guys. Striking resemblance of handsomeness . Take this Jamal Gaddafi for instance n compare him with this 1st picture of Nigerian Nnamdi Asomugha n see the striking resemblance! Only that the Nigerian is older n darker See other random Igbo Nigerian guys below. They can boast some or most of the handsome men in Nigeria, they also tend to me more muscular on average than other Nigerians.

TayserMahiri: I'm just curious why Nigerians put up their pics on blogs. Most Kenyans put their pics on social sites like the gram, twitter, badoo etc but not on blogs. I guess its kind of culture difference. Nonetheless, a few more men. The first guy is swahili from the coast, they tend to have that Arabic look, the second is a body builder and the 3rd and 4th are models Hoooo, so u don't consider dis site a social network? I think it is sort of, it's more than a blog. Kk, i wish Kenyan celebs were more famous. Apart from Sauti sol, i dont think most Nigerians can mention any Kenyan celebrity. ***Is that u on your profile? If yes, then i think u are handsome n u can pass for a Nigerian. I noticed that Kenyans can easily pass for Nigerians compared to Tanzanians n Ugandans. You also look young like in your early or mid twenties, m i correct? Kenyan guys look great, buh i think Nigerian, Congolese n Tanzanian guys look better |

I really don't know whether you like cute men facially or muscular or the combination. As Hbuyosh suggested, may be you should try googling hot kenyan men. I don't really know how to rate the hotness of men. But I can't fail to notice my own hotness I will put up my picture on the prof and hope you are the only one that will see it Here are a few kenyan men. The first guy plays rugby, the second plays American Football with the Indiana Colts, the third and fourth are regular models Kk great. I love the body of the 1st guy. A combination of facial looks n musculature is the perfect standard of good looks for a man or dont u think? ***believe me, i have searched for handsome kenyan men before n these 2 guys are the best i could find. The first guy Kevin Owiti, apparently was Mr Kenya n the 2nd guy, i couldn't get his name, do u know him? ~~~He also looks cushitic to me. Is he a Kenyan somali?

Buh really, am interested in the cute Kenyan guys part of MtuMsuper's comment I have hardly seen any handsome or very hot Kenyan man, maybe cos we hardly come across your celebrities. u guys can help me out by referring me Tanzanian men, Congolese men n Ivorian men i think are the hottest in Africa apart from Nigerian men. obaaderemi: Nairobi seems to have a very good masterplan.I was reading a mag on nairobi during the weekend and saw vast green spaces and parks even in the city centre.I love such things but the same writer of the article,a kenyan, added a caveat by saying '..don't let all this greenery deceive you, two-third of Nairobi is slum.' Nairobi suffers from what most or all of black Africa suffers from: urban poverty. No matter the kind of infrastructures you put in place,if you fail to grow your economy and lift people out of poverty,it's not worth it.I mean what do you do with a $70bn economy for 40m people(kenya)or a $500bn economy for 180m people?Only in Africa. Yaaah, u are correct. Also, i think one reason Kenya might have more slums than others like us is because our govnmt easily demolishes illegal settlements n slums using brutal force at times. |

TayserMahiri: Then Goodluck was a competitive president. From the outset, he seemed like Tanzania's Kikwete; nice guy with a good heart but does nothing for the economy. Good to see what he did. For the last part, I think your looking for trouble I realized Nigerians are like Kenyans in many ways when it comes to rating their former leaders. True. ****How come u guys know about Nigeria's presidents so much? I only know Uhuru Kenyatta , n i think Mwai Kibaki. Who would u say has been the best kenyan president so far? |

TayserMahiri: We all have strengths and weaknesses. I'm not sure Kenyans are proud, we just don't entertain someone trying to misrepresent us and write our story. CNN know better. They had to apologize after attempting to portray Kenya as a hot bed of terror, while the truth is quite the opposite. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/aug/14/cnn-kenya-apologise-obama
The reality is that most Nigerians have been driving the narrative that Kenya is a slum country with little else. In fact, when I joined this thread, one thing I curiously observed was the way Nigerians were talking hard about the slum issue and maintaining that Kenyans should not share any of their nice places and achievements for the simple reason that we have slums. Kenyans cannot take a one sided story anymore. Not when the slum issue (and lie) has been the favorite story for decades. We are now an emerging economy with great prospects and vision for our country. We cannot allow the same narrative of negativity to be driven through the world media (including in places like nairaland). No, not at all. Those kinds of stories can condemn you to oblivion in many ways. For instance, if Nairobi was portrayed like a slum city, Multinational firms would not consider investing there. The same is the case if the narrative is terror, starving etc. I think Africa as a whole should make a collective effort of ridding its bad image as it continues to tackle its problems. Kk. U are correct. When i joined this thread, i also decided to read some pages aback n also discovered than Kenyans, South africans n even Ghanians ridiculed Nigeria here too. I guess none of us r saints. >>>How did u come to know about nairaland if i may ask? cos am amazed with d number of Kenyans here. I never knew there were so many foreigners here<<< |

TayserMahiri: Quite surprising, I read somewhere that the former was a tyrant in his own right. Funny enough, I never heard of Yar Adua, in fact I thought Goodluck was the immediate successor of OBJ. What was Goodluck good for? Who do u mean was a tyrant? Obj? If him, then yes. If others? Then no. ~~Yaaah, Yar'adua ruled only 2 years b4 he died~~ Goodluck was known for development. He initiated the idea of the industrialization of Nigeria. He initiated the revival of our dying agricultural sector He initiated the construction of the world class centenary city Abuja. He heavily invested in the railway sector, you can see the effects today. He heavily invested in education for the educationally backward and disadvantaged core-northern Nigeria. He created 9 new federal universities, thereby ensuring every Nigerian state has a federal university. He was a man of dialogue n peaceful resolution of conflicts. He set up a National conference for all Nigerians n aggrived sections of the federation to sit n discuss their problems n grievances n chart a way forward by proferring solutions (u can imagine that! Only few african presidents have ever done such). Many other things i can't list. Maybe my fellow compatriots can add 2d list Cc nowenuse, uzzyfire, arinzeejikonye, shervydman, iblawi, forgiveness n others. |

TayserMahiri: Building houses for the poor is never the right solution unless you grow the economy fast and equally. As long as there are poor people, slums will be there, no matter how many times you destroy them. I'm especially not a fan of demolishing slums. Such an inhumane act Holly Slums r illegal settlements on most occasions, so their demolition is quite justifiable. I think tackling rural poverty is the best solution to slums |

Nowenuse: Nairobi's slums are beyond redemption. Nothing can ever be done about them. I heard that most of Nairobi slum dwellers sold their lowcost appartments and went back to the slums you can imagine.
You can take a Nairobian away from the slums but you can never take the slums away from a Nairobian. It has become a sort of cultural heritage. Heeey kwana biyu, ya kake? >>>>Hmm, that's terrible. Rural poverty is really the cause of all these slums in 3rd world nations. <<<< |

MtuMsuper: Why? I find the former lacklustre, and the latter supremely corrupt. My thoughts. Naaah. Yar'adua was the one who championed dialogue initiatives for the Niger delta militants n established a ministry for their affairs. That went a long way in stabilizing Nigeria. If Yar'adua had not fallen sick n died, he might have been our best president so far. As for Goodluck, i wouldn't say he was personally corrupt, he was just very tolerant with corruption. Naturally he is a very tolerant n easy going person. His vision n plans for Nigeria were superb. Goodluck invested in Nigeria's infrastructure so much. |

If I were Nigerian, I might have also disliked him too, but as a keen student of history, he did alot, and restored a central principle in the psyhe of your country viz. it's normal and acceptable to have elections in order to replace leaders. Nigeria was a military coup ridden basket case before OBJ. Slums r very difficult to completely get rid of, dontcha think? Look at Makoko, i heard most of it was demolished, buh did it really work? Seems like it was rebuilt. He was a general in the Nigerian civil war, was unjustly imprisoned by that goon Abacha, he led the transition on Nigeria into the democratic fold. There is a picture of him somewhere drinking uji with everyday people in kisumu with his buddy Raila, i can't find it .
