jack_syno: House I feel i share this with us. Read it somewhere. HERE it goes...
Now, i arrived at the embassy a little past 6am and it was not my turn to be interviewed until a few minutes to 11am. so i sat and watched them interview other people for like 4 hours!!!! here are some tips i gleaned from watching and listening:
1. Speak confidently. Look them in the eye and smile as appropriate
2. No matter how hot tempered you are never ever ever ever argue with the CO. I overheard one lady snap at the same man that interviewed me. He asked her a question and she snapped and said something like "i'm not done talking". he also interrupted me maybe once or twice when i was talking to him but it didnt annoy me. it just felt like a normal conversation. In any case, that lady was denied
3. While waiting, pray that you get a CO that's in a good mood. Ask God to send you to the CO with who you will find favor.
4.Don't worry if you have a weak NECO/WAEC result. As long as you meet the minimum requirement stated on the "notice to applicants from Nigeria" you will be fine. just be confident. besides, a weak result is easier to defend than straight A1s. Personally, i was happy that my NECO result wasnt fantastic because i figured that if they ask me any secondary school question that i dont remember, i'll just tell them that they can see that i flunked NECO. LoL One lady came with her husband and son and the CO asked her husband to go and sit while she was being interviewed. Her results were only three months old but when she couldnt answer the questions asked, the CO said "tell me what types of questions you encountered on the biology exam"--she kept saying "cells" so she was asked about her physics exam and she still couldnt say what types of questions she encountered on that exam. She was denied
5.if you are married take LOTS of pictures of you and your spouse together. Pictures of your spouse with your family as well as pictures of you with your spouse's family are also helpful. If the pictures are in an album, it looks more credible. I mean, if you say you've been married for 5 years and the album looks a little worn out from age, it's hard to discredit such a relationship
6.If for some reason, your spouse is abroad, make sure you take along records of text messages and emails exchanged
7.If you are asked a question and you miss it, or you don't know the answer, don't panic. One young man told the Chinese CO at window 12 that the word “is” is an adjective and he still got approved for the visa. So don't ever panic. Just keep your cool, maintain a positive attitude and you will find favor
8.If for some reason, you open your xray before reaching to embassy, don't worry yourself. They kuku told us to open the thing from outside...i just have to add this tip because the nurse at kamorass was almost screaming “don't open it oh” when I asked her about the documents inside the xray envelope...hahaha
9.If you cram answers, be careful to listen to what you are being asked. One lady really annoyed the CO because she kept answering questions she wasn't asked. If you choose to cram things to say, practice enough times that it sounds natural. The CO kept telling her to stop saying things that she had crammed but she continued doing it. She was denied. Another lady kept giving short incomplete answers—even though this lady got her visa, the CO was getting impatient with her and she was almost in tears by the end of the interview. Even the CO had to ask if she was okay
10.remember that tag I said they gave me after i submitted my appointment letter? The one that has a number on it? Guard it like a gem! One man lost his, and they spent like 10 minutes looking for it because it must be returned to the CO before the interview can take place. Trust me, you don't want this type of pressure just before the interview.
11.If you are going for a visiting visa, you are supposed to act as if you absolutely love Nigeria and would never want to relocate to America. Please don't try to give them this impression during your DV interview. One man was denied, and in an attempt to change the CO's mind, he told the CO that his intention was to get residency and then come back to Nigeria. That he is the Chairman somewhere etc etc. that basically sealed the deal. The CO told him that the visa is not intended for people that intend to get residency and then come back to Nigeria—so please, even if this is your plan, do not tell the CO about it.
Finally, I feel that God helped me to realize something about two days to my interview. The visa is already yours—you won it in the lottery. The ONLY reasons for the interview are for you to prove your identity (which is accomplished via the documents you take along). The other point of the interview is to prove that you are educated—so even if you don't know the answer to a question, just say something that sounds smart.
Go and succeed. Cheers, Freedom007 Last edited by Freedom007; 26th November 2009 at 04:08 PM. Thanks a lot. This is very insightful and probably one of the best things I ever read on this forum. |

adesojiaderemi@: gentiger, everyone on this forum are doing more than enough.99.9% of the advice given on this forum are based on personal experience, indepth reseaches and not just heresay. Doctors, scientist and soothsayers may not be accurate sometimes that doesn't mean they are "merely informatory".One thing I want us to learn from this is that he said THEY FAST and PRAY.There is nothing impossible for God. Haaaaa! Attack ke? on who? What do you think would have happened if that guy and the cousin took to the counsel earlier given and walked away head bowed in defeat? Anyone else could make the comment I made and go Scott free but not Gentiger. Even if you give a correct answer to a question, it's still a mere information. Habaa! |

You will only send your forms to KCC sticking strictly to the instructions specified in the forms. Keep all the necessary documents in place and go with them to the embassy when your interview is scheduled. |

adzovia: i have an issue. i have been in the state 2 times. but the last time i went for my visa i was given 5 years only to realise some few days later that i have won the visa lottery. because of the visa lottery i could not travel again. my question is will this affect me Not at all as long as the facts you supplied during your previous application for visa to the US are consistent with the facts on ground. For instance, if you filed as a married individual in previous visa applications but applied as unmarried (vice-versa) in your DV entry, that could adversely affect your current DV application and the stamped visa which could be revoked for obtaining by false pretense. All these depend on the timing of your previous applications. |

If highest education attainment or qualification is University Degree, is it the case that questions asked during the interview are not usually drawn from O'levels but from final year project and courses offered at the University level? Anyone in the house with a unique experience? |

9 FAM 42.33 N7.3 Education Evaluation (CT:VISA-1555; 09-30-2010) A.Each post needs to determine what course of study is equivalent to a high school education or its equivalent in the host country. Previously, posts were provided with a guidebook that provided information on high school equivalency country by country. That guidebook ("Foreign Education Credentials Required”) is no longer in print and is not available in updated format. You should not rely on it for your evaluation of high school credentials. You should make use of the resources found in your Public Diplomacy (PD) section to determine comparable courses of study in the host country that would meet the definition of a high school education or its equivalent. Contacts in the host country’s Ministry of Education may also be of help. If you have questions about certificates and diplomas, you should consult with your public diplomacy section, including EducationUSA advisors and locally engaged staff, as they are valuable resources in evaluating local education systems. PD personnel advise prospective students and evaluate their educational backgrounds and have experience with and knowledge of local schools. To determine the authenticity of any particular document, you will need to work with your Fraud Prevention staff to develop expertise in making that determination. Interviewing officers may wish to consult with other posts when in doubt about the authenticity of educational certificates from countries outside their consular district.
B. A DV refusal must be based on evidence that the alien did not in fact obtain the required degree and not on your assessment of the alien's knowledge level. You may not administer an exam, either oral or written, to test an applicant’s basic knowledge in order to determine whether they have the equivalent of a U.S. high school education. You may not refuse a DV applicant solely on the basis of your analysis of the applicant's basic knowledge. Doubts about the applicant’s claimed educational level raised by your interview, however, may lead you to investigate the authenticity of the educational credentials claimed by the DV applicant.

Thanks If you sent your forms through a courier company like UPS, DHL, FEDEX or thru registered mail, you should be able to track its progress and get a delivery report. Alternatively, mail or call KCC to confirm receipt, ensuring you specify full names, date of birth and CN in your chosen mode of communication. They most likely won't notify you except on request. Well, give it a shot. You have a very strong footing since you included them. I must advise you to consult further on what to do convincing the CO a marriage subsists. Pictures are good. Marriage certificate is good. Hospital records of birth is good. The only missing link is reconciling all these to the existence of marriage vis-a-vis timing of actual period of marriage. There's always a legal way out. I believe people will further comment on this but very importantly, seek professional counsel from certified immigration experts. |

tosdem: hello to all nairalanders am new on this forum, and I have read alot on this forum and I hope I can also have an advice on my own isue here 1.i was selected on DV 2013 for further process,is my CN2013000141** when is like for we to have our interview,i apply this with my family(my husband and my daughter)but we have not legaly marry when I apply but when I deliver my baby in 2009 I went to high court off justice to change my name to my husband name and since then have been using his name and we gt married in legal way this year june 3rd 2013. 2nd.id have 5 credit on level result as requested on the site but I have E7 in my maths and english I also had N.C.E as my highest qualification with good grade, and have been into teaching five years ago, hope we are good to go? 3rd.on the petitioner isue I wrote each off our name as petitioner cos I see the petitioner as person the that presented the form not only the principal applicant...hope to hear from u soon thanks Your likely interview period is December. With 5 credits at O'levels and NCE as highest education qualification you are good to go. Did you apply as Single or married? If as single, convincing the CO you just married with a grown up kid may be difficult. If you applied as married but not legally married at the time of application, your marriage certificate will give you away. I usually don't advise people to falsify anything cos I am on the side of the Law. But you will have to prove you were customarily married but decided to legalise it in court after your selection for further progressing. Be sure to go with customary marriage photos, courtship photos and every other photos that could advance your course. Pls do not backdate marriage certificate. It could be counter productive. Finally, you the principal applicant is the Petitioner. Goodluck! |

tosrich: My interview experience: The computer refused to call my no for interview after almost everybody have been attended to, even those that came after me. I was alone with my thought thinking of so many things that might have gone wrong with serious fear in me. Most of the COs have already through for the day. At around 11:45am one of the CO that was about closing noticed that I have not been attended called me to his window and said, Sir, what are u waiting for? And I said I've not been attended to and he was amazed to hear that, again fear griped me when I saw his facial expression. He asked me to go back to where I was sitting and he went to meet one black lady. After like 3minutes the lady called me to her window and requested for my passport and my document [original and photocopy]. When she collected it she just shook her head and the I was shivering again. Later she said go to that window[the CO that earlier noticed me on the sit]. And that was how it started.
CO: good morning sir Me: good morning sir
CO: rais up your right hand and swell that you are going to say the truth ME: I sworn
CO: is this your form (he showed me the form I sent to kcc with my passport on it) for signing. Me: I collected it and I signed and return it back to him.
CO: what is your highest edu. Qualification? ME: Bsc in Biz admin
CO: what courses did you do in your last semester? ME: I mentioned 4 courses that crossed my mind at that time
CO: tell me your project topic and discuss it with me? ME: I mention the topic and I discused the abstract of my project topic.
CO: what is your recommendation? ME: I told him.
CO: what are u doing presently? ME: am doing my NYSC in a local govt in ondo state.
CO: what department are you and what do they do in your dept. ME: am in treasury dept and we prepare budget, account and expenditure of the LG. He asked to stop and the next thing I saw him doing was that he wrote DV ISSUED on my file. And he returned all my original document to me and asked me to wait. He circled one addres in a paper and asked me to go and pick up my visa in 5 working days and lastly he said CONGRATULATION, WELCOME TO AMERICA..
I thank God because I had lost hope being the last person to be interviewed. Congratulations my brother. I am truly happy for you. God who did it for you will surely do it for the rest of us. congratulations once again. |

jack_syno: DV winners (at least from nigeria) dont need no affidavit of support. An applicant can talk about an affidavit of support if he is being sponsored by a US citizen or a permanent resident.
There was a lady that was asked about her Affidavit of support when she was called up to one of the windows (probably to submit her documents b4 interview proper) and she quickly responded saying - there's no such requirement on their website for Dv winners.
After her quick and successful interview by another person, She then asked the CO if truly affidavit of support was supposed to be a requirement and the CO said- NO.
I happen to know a few past DV winners and when I brought up the question of affidavit of support, they said - that is not needed for naija winners and that they never demanded for such during their interview. Thanks a lot my brother. I am fully informed to make a decision. |
