A word of advice for the guys who already made it to the States. Zip up. Keep off from women except you intend marriage. Be informed that most ladies in the US are not desperate to have you in bed because you are sexy and irresistible, but largely because they want to have a baby with you and you will end up paying child support for as long as the child is a minor, that way they don't get to work, you do all the works and pay her a monthly salary to support 'your' baby (Her needs). Be focused. Wisen up. Have a set goal of where to be in the next 12 months. Never mind if others mock at your goals. You will get there or close enough to it...Good Luck.

Favourablegirl: Do not include the child now, send you DS 230 to KCC without her/his name, at the interview u will be asked do u have a child answer yes and you will be asked if you are taking care of the child. America love children and they protect them so much. And after 5 yers in the US you can send a petition for ur child.
Really? Hmmmmmmmm!!!

kdgom66: Of course, she can visit him by applying for an B-2 visa but whether she is granted the visa or not is another matter. Yes, she can always visit him.
To the best of my knowledge, such visas are usually not issued. She's considered a flight risk.

Petsal: Hello house, pls I need an advise on this case:
A friend got his Visa approved and collected his travelling package. He's making plans to settle down maritally I mean getting married before leaving the shore of Naija. Someone was telling him that what he wanted to might affect his Visa. Pls, how true is this information cos I believe, getting married doesn't has anything to do with his Visa. adesojiaderemi@:
Black lawmakers and civil rights groups are concerned by a proposal in the Senate's immigration reform bill that would do away with “diversity” visas that are often a pathway for African and Caribbean immigrants to enter the United States.

Advocates said they haven't seen evidence yet that a new merit-based program is an acceptable replacement for the diversity visas, which total 55,000 each year and are granted via a lottery.

Hilary Shelton, director of the NAACP Washington bureau, said he is telling lawmakers not to eliminate the diversity program when comprehensive immigration reform moves forward.

“At this point, we are urging lawmakers not to eliminate the diversity visa program,” Shelton told The Hill. “This is one of the places in the bill that needs to be addressed. We will work with our friends in the Senate, and we have started working with our friends in the House as well.”

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), co-chairman of the immigration task force for the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), called the Senate bill “a significant step in the right direction” but said his caucus is worried about the plan to eliminate diversity visas.

“With respect to the abolishment of the diversity visa lottery program, the CBC is extremely concerned that it might limit the future flow of immigration for people from certain parts of the world,” Jeffries said. “That’s troublesome, and we’re evaluating the merit-based visa proposal to determine if it's fair and balanced.”

The diversity program makes 55,000 visas available each year to countries with low immigration rates to the United States. Those awarded the visas are chosen by a lottery, with about half typically going to African immigrants.

Republican lawmakers have targeted the program in the past for elimination, arguing the program's lottery system can lead to fraud and undermine national security.

The Senate bill proposes ending the diversity visas in 2015 and creating a new, merit-based visa program. It would make 120,000 visas available per year, rising to a maximum of 250,000, depending on the need for them and the unemployment rate. Immigrants would earn points toward visas based on their education, employment, family ties and other criteria.

“The jury is still out on whether the merit-based visas will be sufficient to address the concerns we have identified with diversity visas,” said Wade Henderson, president and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. “We are concerned but we are still looking, and we are still making a decision.”

Some groups are furious with lawmakers for putting the diversity program on the chopping block.

“This is not a zero-sum game where we take from one to give to another. That is not how comprehensive immigration reform should work,” said Bertha Lewis, president of The Black Institute. “We are really, really angry about this diversity visa business.”

Jeffries said it was “too early to say” whether he would support the Senate bill without changes. The CBC is in talks with lawmakers negotiating a House immigration overhaul, he said.

“The situation is still very much in flux, and we won’t know until the end of the month what that bill might ultimately look like,” Jeffries said.

Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), another co-chairman of the CBC's immigration task force, said the group met on Wednesday afternoon to discuss the diversity visa issue.

“We continue to be concerned about the discontinuation of the diversity waiver, and the fact that … African and Caribbean immigrants who are participating in the diversity visa [program] per year could lose that pathway,” Horsford said.

Horsford said CBC leaders have been in talks with immigration reform negotiators in both the House and the Senate. He suggested the merit-based replacement program was included in the Senate bill at the urging of the CBC.

“In large part, this alternative has been proposed because of our concerns with the diversity visa [discontinuation]. Meaning, we brought this issue up when we heard that it was being talked about [being] eliminated,” Horsford said. “And we said, ‘Look, without some meaningful alternative that ensures that all communities, including Caribbean and African immigrants, are protected, then, you know, we [the CBC] would have major concern.’”

Horsford said Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-N.Y.), another leader of the CBC’s immigration task force, has been in talks with Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), a member of the Senate's "Gang of Eight," about diversity visas.

“And now that we have the language, and now that we can see the alternative specifically, we can, you know, begin to work on how it affects our communities,” Horsford said.

Horsford said he expected the House immigration reform bill would have similar language related to diversity visas and the merit-based replacement program.

Shelton of the NAACP said he was hoping for “a strengthening” of the diversity visa program in the immigration reform bill by increasing its numbers of visas and expediting their processing time.

“It has not been demonstrated yet that the merit-based visas that are being lifted up will solve the problems that diversity visas were intended to solve,” Shelton said. “There may be a need for an amendment to fix this problem in the future to help African and Caribbean immigrants.

He can prove married if he remarries before submitting his forms to KCC. But Let him be informed that he must show proof of the termination of the previous marriage and the existence of the new marriage. He cannot claim single because he's been once married.

kdgom66: Yes, if the new immigration bill is passed by Congress into law. But I doubt that will happen before October this year. Legislative processes in America can take forever at times because there are so many special interests lobbying for this or that loopholes or stricter measures.
My dear, as sad as this sounds, the US government appears set to scrap the lottery, firstly due to influx of terrorists through the program, and secondly, because they want to replace it with a new system of selection, to boost the American economy. Blame it on the recent Boston bombers who gained permanent residency and citizenship through asylum.

naah29: Hi to everyone on this forum . I won the DV lottery but have an issue . I left the University with my calculated result - i knew I have modulated all my courses and thereby knows I have a degree. later played the lottery with status as a holder of degree then submitted my forms to kcc. I will soon go to the embassy like in three months time , i have gone to my school top collect my certificate and they telling me that there is a course i did not validated so i can be issued a degree. when i noticed this i emailed kcc and they reply with the below information

Thank you for your inquiry.
KCC does not have the ability to retrieve or make changes to the data that was provided on the original entry to the lottery.
Please complete the forms DS 230 Part I, DS 230 Part II, and DSP 122 with the correct information. Once received at KCC, the information will be included in your case file for review.

Im still to resend the corrected form , do i stand a chance at the interview huhhuhhuhhuh??
pls i will appreciate excellent contributions
Do not panic. It May appear as fraudulent misrepresentation of facts, but be sure you appear at the embassy with proof of your undergraduate status. If the discrepancy comes up for determination during your interview, simply state it was an error in data imputation. You got No problems. Your visa is guaranteed, okay?

my BirthCert was given back to me and the Took my NPC with other documents/credential.
So i just wonder how i am misinforming people going with their Old birth cert to go get an NPC cert.

One other fellow that was testifying about his success also said the only collected his NPC and his birtcert was given back to him

@Temmy
there are many decent ways to correct one if he is wrong(am still waiting for u to point out where i was wrong and also misinforming people)
Its is this ur Habit thats makes people not willing to even give their own candid contribution
I know you are Mr know it all

Bronxess: Hello House, Please we need you advice. I was selected for DV 2013 (CN:65***) but I have a close friend with CN: 43***. He lost his dv confirmation number which he used when the dv lottery 2013 results were launched. His appointment date is around the corner and yet there is no possibility for him to get access to his 2NL. Please we count on your advice.
If he's current already and believes he May have been scheduled, Let him wait atleast a month after the anticipated interview date, then write the embassy to have his interview rescheduled on the grounds of ill-health. When they reply to his mail, he'll know his new date. I hope this helps.

jamicanlady: 1. On d issue of passport, pls I doubt if a visa will be stamped on dat soon to expire passport cos like u noted the major condition is dat "Passport(s) should be valid for six months beyond the intended date of entry into the U.S. So it means it must be valid for up to six months beyond 1st wk of Nov, which is ur intended date of entry into d US. You may ve d present passport cancelled by Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). It will be stamped "CANCELLED WITHOUT PREJUDICE" and a new one will be issued.

2. No need to inform the embassy, but if at the interview the CO raises the issue, pls be honest n tell him/her of d new address. However, you must inform the immigration officials at your POE about the new address so as to avoid ur Green Card (GC) being sent to d old address.

3. DV visa applicants from Nigeria do not need AOS, so it depends on ur country.

NOTE: Pls bear in mind dat ur Medical Report is valid for six months from d date of issuance just like d visa. It is mandatory u ve a valid medical report with u at ur POE or else u will be asked to do another one over there in d US, which is very expensive.

Hope this helps, goodluck!
That's a brilliant answer. I love that. However, if a new passport can be procured soonest before interview, that would be great. With the likes of you on this forum, the people don't have a problem.

femsoj: I signed my 8years contract with the US army yesterday(4 yeas as an active member and the remaining 4 years as a reserve member) . To those having it in mind of joining the US army, there are so many advantages in it. Most people's fear is that they might be deploy to the battle field, but one thing about the US army is that you already know the job you will be trained for before signing your contract. Those people given infantry (combat job) are the only one that will be trained in fighting at the war front. You have the right to pick the job you want to do in the army, so far you meet the cut off mark for that job in their entrant exam (ASVAB test) . BENEFITS : You will become a US citizen within 3 - 6 month of joining the army (I.e, within the period you are in the basic and advance training) . Up to 53,200dollars has tuition fee, if you wish to go back to school. There is something they also called GI bill. This is the money they will be giving to you after leaving the military to further your education has well and the benefit can also be transfer to your spouse or children(for you to qualify for this benefit, they will be deducting 100dollars on your salary every month while you are still in active duty) . Other benefits: there is no need of thinking about paying for house rent, they are the one responsible for your accommodation and feeding. I'll be going for my basic training for 9weeks in may at South Carolina and for my advance training for another 7weeks at Virgina. For more information on how to join the US army and the benefits in it, you can visit :www.goarmy.com

honeydee: I had my interview in Accra Ghana this morning. Thanks to God and everyone who prayed for me. My interview was successful. My interview was somehow like a nigerian movie because it has part 1 and 2. grin grin grin grin

Part 1 was in february. The only question i was asked was what job i was doing. After that, the Female CO said i needed to get a new police report from Nigeria with my full name on it.Im half Nigerian and half Ghanaian and i stayed in nigeria up to the age of 17 so i needed a police report from there. My name on the police report i got from nigeria was shortened so she requested i do another one with my full name and also provide some id cards i used while i lived in Nigeria.

Part 2 was this morning and to God be the glory, the male CO this time did not ask me any question. he just said i should give him the new police report and show him the id cards. He asked for my passport and asked me to come back in three days for my visa.

Im grateful to everyone here. Even those ave never really interacted with because i learnt a lot from your comments. God richly bless you all.

jidedon,roodboy, nero xp,chykeworld, odunmanuel, thanks a million.

To those yet to go for their interview i pray that you have it easier than i did and i cant wait to read your success stories too. I wish i could meet the wonderful people behind the ids on nairaland someday.

I am no longer faceless, hence won’t hesitate to move on if the verbal abuse persists. I have a number of things to publish for the benefit of those who need it. Anyone with dissenting view should keep it to themselves, or alternatively, don’t wait to correct Gentigers researched findings, publish yours. We are not here as umpires, or to compete for superior knowledge, but as honest contributors. People are free to post what they know; it’s for the readers to go home and research further. Trying to correct peoples input under the guise of not wanting to see people misled grin grin grin grin is a display of envy and low self esteem in my judgment. Please let’s live and let others as well live. In response to the various pleas from friends on this forum to return, I am back smiley. My special thanks to Adesoji. I spoke with him at length over the phone. He has a good heart and meant well for everyone. I publicly take back my unruly remarks to him. Once, again, I apologize to all who felt aggrieved by my remarks over time: Temmy, Brightmon and any other who is deeply hurt, I take it back. I hereby extend my hands of friendship to all. Let’s compliment rather than criticize each other’s honest input. Thanks!!!! Gentiger signing off. wink

@All.... Sorry for the rude interruption. I will continue tomorrow with the many revelations I promise to make to properly guide those wanting to establish in the States. There's life out here but you need the correct information to navigate through the waters. With the right knowledge, you will settle down as fast as I did. I got my SSN in 4 days, GC in 16 days, two jobs in 12 days and now my license to drive in about 30 days of arrival. I have mixed up so fast with individuals who are super successful at what they do, visited agencies of government to know how businesses and schooling is done and spoken with the ordinary man on the street to get the perception of the people about America. Keep checking in, you won't be disappointed. Gentiger signing off to work.
