At first glance, evangelist Olivia Mitchell’s life didn’t appear to be promising. She was born to an interracial couple in the 1950s and subjected to ridicule, neglect and repeated acts of abuse.

Many others would have given in to despair and failure when faced with such trying circumstances. But with God’s help Olivia persevered.

In Christ there is always hope. We mustn’t allow circumstances to force us out of the race when certain victory is just around the corner.

Let Go of Unforgiveness
Tuesday, 06 October 2009 05:54 PM EDT Valerie G. Lowe

I experience a nagging feeling in my chest from time to time. I don't take over-the-counter medicine or prescription drugs for the problem because I won't feel any relief. The discomfort I feel in my heart is the Holy Spirit's conviction in my life.

During prayer time yesterday, I was forced to come clean with God about what ails me. I asked Him for the first time in years to help me let go of the unforgiveness I had for someone who did me wrong back in college. I had been holding on to the offense because it was "my right."  But guess who felt as if she was in jail?

Unforgiveness is a weight that keeps you anchored to the past. If you don't release the burden, you can get stuck there, unable to move forward into God's best for your life. You lose your joy. You get upset. Bitterness eventually sets in. The person you refuse to forgive is not bound —you are!

We can't fully love God and live life freely if we have unforgiveness in our hearts. Because His Son is the epitome of forgiveness, we are to follow His example. Remember the words of our Lord: "‘And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses'" (Mark 11:25-26, NKJV).

I can't say with assurance one prayer has freed me from the unforgiveness I've harbored all this time. But I'm grateful for the work the Holy Spirit is doing in me. He is the revealer of truth and time will tell.

If you have the same symptoms as me-discomfort in your heart, spiritual unrest, stubbornness, lack of joy-you could be holding onto unforgiveness. I suggest you repent and ask the Father to help you break free

Crime / Love Gone Wild!: Boy,17, Kills Woman, 35, For Blocking Advances To Her Daughter by GEW: 9:16am On Oct 08, 2009
Love gone wild!: Boy,17, kills woman, 35, for blocking advances to her daughter

He pursued the girl with lunatic passion, but she rebuffed his advances, until he succeeded in defiling her. But even this was not enough for Chinwikpe Ikezie. he made good his threat to kill the girl’s mother, her opposition to his advances. Abiola Azeez reports the gripping tale of a love intention gone wild.0

Was it a case of love gone sour or that of a professed love to one’s heartthrob being turned down or truncated by forces more powerful? No matter the deductions one makes out of the story, the deed has been done, and the deceased has been left for the bereaved to bury.

Okwoyi Isieke Ibeku is a rural village in Umuahia North local government area of Abia State. The usually peaceful community, which is just about three kilometres away from the heart of the state capital, was thrown into mourning, anger, and confusion on Wednesday evening, when the news filtered into the community that a 17 year-old young man had murdered a 35 year old mother in a cassava farm.

Members of the community, particularly the leadership of the youth, gathered and formed a search party. They went after the alleged killer, going from one neighbouring village to another, apparently to deny the murderer any form of escape and to hand him over to law enforcement agents.

Their efforts paid off after much exertion of energy; the alleged murderer, Chinwikpe Okezie, who allegedly committed the heinous crime at about 5 p.m., was tracked down at about 3 a.m. the next day at a bush path in the neighbouring village.

It was discovered that he had his own network of informants to help him immediately he fled the community after committing the dastardly act.

Investigations conducted by FeaturesXtra revealed that Chinwikpe regularly visits Okwoyi Isieke Ibeku, which is his maternal community, where he had lived with his mother in Okwoyi Isieke Ibeku, since the mother was thrown out of her husband’s house unceremoniously.

Another version to the personality of the Chinwikpes had it that his mother had no clear cut means of livelihood and was also a trouble maker in the community.

This, members of the community said, made her husband to wake up one morning and engage the services a truck driver, who helped him to pack her belongings back to her community in the full glare of everyone present at the market square of the village. Her bride price was not paid.

Chinwikpe Okezie,
the alleged murderer Members of the community, in separate interviews, said that Chinwikpe had, about two years ago, used a cutlass to cut the hand of one of his older kinsmen during a fight. Also, no member of the community could confirm his source of livelihood.

While some said he never attended school, others said he was a drop out, while some others said he was available for any casual labour since he was not known to be on apprenticeship with anyone.

Speaking with FeaturesXtra, a former youth leader of the community, Mr. Ibeabuchi Abarikwu, said the deceased, Chikamnayo Nwakaaku Young (nee Ikpo), aged 35, was a native of Okwoyi Isieke Ibeku in the Umuahia North Local government area of the state, but was married to one Abel Young, an indigene of Amankwu Amiibo in Ubakala community of Umuahia South local government area of the state.

Abarikwu said the couple got separated when the man could not complete the payment of brideprice on Chikamnayo, a development which he said made her to take her children along with her to her father’s house.

”Chikamnayo is a peasant farmer. She had gone to her farm in the morning of the day of the incident. Earlier, before the day of the incident, her assailant, Chinwikpe, had been threatening her, and telling people that he would kill the woman.

“Chinwikpe’s mother is from Okwoyi Isieke Ibeku, just like the deceased. Interestingly, no other girl in the community caught Chinwikpe’s admiration and love except the deceased’s daughter, Chinagorom Young, aged 17. He was trying to befriend the daughter of the deceased, which the deceased vehemently opposed, saying that her daughter is a blood sister to the boy.

She said they couldn’t have any love relationship. Many people are aware of how the girl in question had rejected the advances of the boy on many occasions, yet he continued to trouble the girl.

“Their neighbours even said that the boy had succeeded in raping the girl once, saying their houses are close to one another. So, because the mother refused to consent to their relationship, the boy vowed that he would kill the deceased and also rubbish the girl.

“The deceased had made several complaints to elders of the community, among other people, yet no action was taken, not even calling the boy to order.

“On Wednesday morning, Chikamnayo went to her farm. However, one of her friends in the community, who had a funny feeling, a sense of an impending danger, about her friend, went to her house to warn her about the ominous feeling she had about her. But the woman only met her children, who told their mother’s friend that their mother had gone to the farm.

She, therefore, traced her to the farm, where she met her and told her about the feeling of danger she was having. She succeeded in persuading the deceased to come back to the village with her.

“As fate would have it, the children had nothing to eat at home and the deceased decided to go back to her farm in the evening, at about 5 p.m., to get some vegetables needed to cook a meal for her children. People said immediately she left, they saw Chinwikpe trailing the deceased to the farm.

“When we saw her corpse, already battered by machete cuts in the chest and back, with her face lying on the ground, we learnt that the boy was still lurking around the vicinity. Thus, we alerted everyone in the community.

We also raised a search party. Do you know that it was not until 3 a.m. on Thursday that we eventually caught the boy in a neighbouring community? We then handed him over to the police. The police have since commenced investigations into the matter.”

Asked what he knew of the boy previously, Ibeabuchi said:“Two years ago, when I was the youth leader in the community, Chinwikpe’s elder brother used a machete to cut the arm of one of his elder kinsmen in the community. Then, I warned his people that he should not come back to the community after the incident”, he said.

Describing how they tracked the suspect down in the dead of the night, the youth leader said, “It was a tough experience. When we got the information that he was still hanging around in the area after committing the crime, we mobilised all the youth in the area and searched the community.

We immediately went from Ukome to other neighbouring villages. We also gathered that some people were communicating to him through GSM phones about our journey, which we made with a car, and particularly about my personal involvement in the effort to get him. At a point, we would see him, but he would quickly hide inside the bush on seeing the head lamp of the car we were using to track him.

So, at a point, I advised that we should park the car and go on foot. We then mobilised all the neighbouring communities. Again, he saw us and tried to take cover in the bush. As he was scampering out of the bush at Isieke, we caught him and handed him over to the police.”

Meanwhile, a new twist was added to the story as some sympathisers of the alleged murderer insisted that Chiwinkpe was a friend to the deceased’s daughter and that she even had an issue for the alleged murderer. Speaking on this twist, a native of the village, who wanted to remain anonymous, denied such a story, describing it as a figment of the peddlers’ imagination.

“They were not friends at all. The deceased’s daughter told me that the guy had made several attempts to befriend her, while the girl said she shouted ‘obara Jesus’, meaning blood of Jesus. The guy knows what that means. Yet he continued to pester her. The guy succeeded in raping the girl; the whole village can testify to this. Because of the incident, the girl cried out to the whole community. If they were friends, there would not have been such an alarm.

“Because of this incident, the deceased did not hide the matter but cried out to the whole community over the sacrilegious occurence. The deceased even contacted the guy’s mother with the hope that his mother would caution him. But due to the way the guy was brought up, he never listened to his mother, as his mind was already made up. The elders were still looking into the matter until the killing of the deceased.

If he was innocent or ignorant of what he did, he would not have run away. When he was eventually caught in the bush, he never argued about his offence. He never uttered a word. There was a feeling of disgust and shock because the village saw it as a sacrilege for a boy to have killed someone in his maternal home.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Tribune gathered that the case is being handled by the state Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Umuahia, while the village called on the police to look carefully into the case. They said the boy should not be allowed bail and that he should face the consequences of his action.

“Our community is a law-abiding one. We could have meted out justice to him the night we caught him, but we decided to hand him over to the police immediately. We believe in the police and the court of law. Justice must take its full course. Such a thing has never happened in our place before”, he said.

In order to create a baby, a woman’s egg must be fertilized by a man’s sperm. All eggs carry X-chromosomes, while sperm can carry either an X-chromosome or a Y-chromosome. If an X-bearing sperm fertilizes the egg, your child will be a girl; if a Y-bearing chromosome fertilizes the egg, your child will be a boy. You typically have a 50% chance of conceiving a girl and a 50% chance of conceiving a boy.

Politics / Another Gruesome Murder Bayo Ohu Assistant News Editorpolitical,of The Guardian by GEW: 3:33pm On Oct 06, 2009
ANOTHER GRUESOME MURDER

THE rank of vibrant and courageous journalists in the country has once again been depleted with the gruesome murder of Bayo Ohu. Ohu, until his death at the hands of yet to be identified suspected assailants , was the Assistant News Editor, Political, of The Guardian. His assassination has sent shock wave through the media industry with journalists in Nigeria seeing investigative journalism as a very dangerous turf. Indeed, men and women of the pen profession are fast becoming endangered species in the country.

IN 1986, the founding Editor-In-Chief of NewsWatch, Dele Giwa; was killed through a parcel bomb. Chiedu Offoraro of The Guardian disappeared mysteriously in 1996 and had never been seen since then. While the security agents offered no explanations about the disappearance of Offoraro in Owerri, the police claimed that Bagauda Kaltho of News/Tempo/PM News accidentally blew himself up while on a sabotage and terror mission to plant a bomb at Durbar Hotel, Kano. Also, in February 1998, the Ogun State correspondent of The Guardian, Tunde Oladepo, was killed in Abeokuta in the presence of his two daughters. And till date, there has been no clue as to who the murderers were. It should be noted that Kaltho, Offoraro and Oladepo were killed during the dark days of General Sanni Abacha’s military regime known to be highly intolerant of dissent.

BEFORE Ohu’s recent murder, two cases of suspected assassination that were attracting public discourse and outrage were those of Godwin Agbroko, the Chairman of the Editorial Board of ThisDay and Abayomi Ogundeji, a member of the Editorial Board of the same daily tabloid.

ON September 20, 2009, Ohu was killed at his residence at Oyeniyi Street in Odukoya Estate, Akowonjo, Lagos, by gunmen whose motives were unknown. The assailants reportedly took away the deceased’s laptop and mobile telephone after washing off his blood that splashed on their feet. A common thread that runs through all of these killings is that none has been resolved to date in spite of security agencies’ assurance that perpetrators of the dastardly acts would be apprehended.

EXCEPT something extraordinary happens, Ohu’s case may go the way of those before it, that is, unresolved. Somehow, the Nigeria police and other security agencies in the country are hardly on record to have unravelled any case of assassination in the country. Even where there appeared to be sufficient clues that could lead serious and diligent security agents to expose the mastermind of high profile cases of assassination in Nigeria, the security agents had always looked the other way or bungled such clues in a curious manner.

THERE is also the penchant of the police to rush into conclusion that suspected cases of assassinations, especially of high profile ones, are armed robberies. They go about making such careless claims even when families and well wishers of victims of apparent cases of assassinations are still grieving as if armed robbery is a crime that is condoned by the society or which the police have no mandate to control.

OHU’S gruesome murder is very painful and it is yet unclear why those who cut his life short decided to do so. It is even more painful to learn that the journalist would have probably lived if medical help had come his way immediately it was sought. The deceased was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital shortly after the incident but he was allegedly refused medical attention because there was no police report.

IN some other climes, that action would have attracted heavy sanctions but there is or was a controversial policy that prevents hospitals and medical workers in Nigeria from treating victims of violent crimes without police report. The policy, which the police reportedly claimed, has been abolished stands logic on its head. Why should a victim of violent crime be denied treatment for want of police report? Even if the person with gunshot wounds was an armed robber, does it not make more sense to treat him first and let him face the wrath of the law later?

EVEN though the watchdog roles of members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm may have exposed them to dangers from uncivilised individuals, groups and even the state, the killings in their rank chronicled above may not necessarily reflect a special siege to journalists in the country. No section of the society has been spared, not even clerics are spared from the bullets of hired assassins. The nation is probably contending with more assassinations that are politically and or economically motivated than all other motives put together.

THE implication is that these killings actually reflect a price to be paid by a decadent society that has over the years produced a crop of persons and groups with little or no value for the sanctity of human life. The journalists may not have been marked specially for killing but they are products and part of the society and so unfortunately do share in the consequences of the vices that the society unwittingly produces.

LIKE the other cases before it, we strongly condemn the murder of Ohu. We urge the security agencies, especially the police, to ensure that there is no escape route for those who killed him this time round. The integrity of the police is clearly on the line in respect of this matter. Anything short of apprehending the assailants, and bring them to justice will not be acceptable. The Nigerian press as a whole should continually keep the police on their toes until the killers of Ohu are apprehended.

How we escaped from assassins - Victims

By Adebayo Waheed updated: Tuesday 06-10-2009

The security man with matchete
wound on his head.Recently, about six suspected hire assassins visited a couple with the aim of terminating the life of the husband, Alhaji Mufutau Alaka, who is the Managing Director of Albak Nigeria Limited, but for the quick intervention of the policemen from Oyo State Police Command.

Crimes and Security learnt that the suspects had visited the Felele and Apata homes of the couple but unfortunately, they did not meet their target, who was in far away Saudi Arabia, where he had gone to perform the lesser hajj.

Narrating her ordeal when the unwanted visitors visited her Felele residence, Alhaja Serifat Olanike Alaka, who is the first wife to the Alhaji Alaka, said that the suspects had arrived around 12-30 a.m.

“We were in the bedroom when I heard a gun shot and before I knew what was happening, four hefty men, carrying guns, had entered the compound. I ran into the toilet, put on my trousers.

“They were shouting that Alhaji should open the door for them and warned that if he failed to open the door and they found their ways inside, they were going to waste his life,” she said.

According to her, it was when there was no response from Alhaji that they called me to open the door “if you don’t want to die and I answered them, please, I am coming to open the door.

“They now drew the glass of the window and collected my handsets. They asked me to open the door for them. But instead of opening the doors for them, I hide in one of the toilets. They were still calling me to open the door. I did not answer them.”

She said that it was at that point that they broke the window and entered through it into her bedroom.

“They started looking for me; they searched every part of the room. They later found me inside the sitting room toilet. They used the gun to hit me on the head; they slapped me several times,” she added.

She said that three of the suspects later took her to her bedroom where they collected N400, 000 and jewellery worth N600, 000 from her.

She said after collecting the money and the jewellers, the suspects then asked for her husband and a document which they said was kept in the man’s wardrobe. “I told them that my husband was not around that he had travelled out of the country in the last three weeks. They said I was telling lies that I should lead them to Alhaji’s room,

“They beat me for allegedly telling lies about my husband before they forcefully opened the wardrobe. They ransacked everywhere. They took some of his luggage and some wrist watches and digital camera,” she said.

Alhaja Alaka said that the suspects insisted that there was a document inside the room and they searched everywhere and that it was when they could not found it that they went to Apata where the other wife resided.

The wardrobe that was
ransacked by the assassinsShe said, “They took me to the compound and asked me to take them to other flats and I told them that we were the only occupants.

“Really, they did not cover their faces, they spoke Yoruba language fluently. They were up to six,” she said, adding that “the suspects macheted the security guard as I saw blood stains everywhere.”

Narrating her ordeal at the Apata residence of Alhaji Alaka, Alhaja Titilope said it was her neighbours who, when they sighted the suspects, informed her and they immediately called the police who came at the right time before the suspects escaped through the fence.

“They tried to force the burglary open and since the generator was working, I did not know what was happening. They started banging on the door that I should open the door. I immediately called my husband who was not in the country. He said he had alerted the police. In fact, it was the quick arrival of the police that saved us.”

The woman, who claimed that the suspects escaped through the fence, said she could not recognise their voices.

The security guard, Biliaminu Ahmed, told Crime and Security that he was shocked when he was hit on the head, thinking that it was one of her friends that was playing with him, only for him to discover that they were unwanted visitors.

The security guard, who was in charge of security at the Felele residence of the victim, said the suspects did not come through the gate because the gate was locked.

According to him, they came through the fence before they gained entry into Alhaja’s flat where they arrested him.

He said it was after they fired several gunshots which did nothing to him, that they matched him on the head and hand.

Speaking on the incident, Alhaji Mufutau Alaka said he was in Saudi Arabia for the lesser hajj when he received a call from one of his wives around 12.30 am that there were armed robbers in the house.

“Immediately she told me, I was disturbed. I didn’t know what to do. I had to call the police headquarters at Eleyele and when they heard the call, they sent signal to State Anti-Armed Robbery Squad (SARS) at Dugbe.

“They went to my residence at Felele where the suspects were operating and they foiled the attempt. The police have done very well,” he said.

Again, that same day, he said around 2.30 a.m. I heard a phone call that the suspects went to my wife’s house at Apata, but they could not gain entry to the flat.

According to him, the suspects were searching for the document of a petrol station I bought.

“They were not armed robbers, but hired assassins, who were sent to come and kill me over the petrol station. The matter had been reported at Apata police station and I want to believe that the Police Commissioner is aware,” he said, while commending the efforts of the police boss and the policemen attached to the state police command for their prompt response to the distress calls.

When contacted ,the police boss confirmed that the incident was reported and that policemen were on the trail of the suspects. http://www.tribune.com.ng/06102009/tue/crime2.html

Don't keep telling him about all the
other men you could have married.

Don't bring out the bills at breakfast.

Don't start a conversation with him
while he's reading or watching
a sports event on TV.

Don't correct him in front of other people.

Don't try to make him jealous.

Don't bad-mouth his relatives.

Don't put a shirt in his drawer
with a button missing.

Don't call him at work unless
it's absolutely necessary.

I agree with Radiant, Nigerian men are too disciplined, traditional and place too much emphasis on success and self respect. White men on the other hand offer something new and exciting. They offer liberation from the constraint of culture.  They make you feel liberated, with a Whitman, anything goes.

No longer will you be forced to endure those boring obedient Nigerian children who are so obsessed   with homework and  respect for elders instead you will give birth to liberated mix raced children who think the height of modernity is not to eat African food but to eat fish and chips, Kentucky and spaghetti.

So Radiant go ahead and shine in your new found joy and good luck to you.

mike oscar:

Can somebody honestly tell me if these accused persons have been tried, found guilty and Sentenced??

If not, why do we always have to set a tribal jury at this forum and start sentencing people even before they are proven guilty in the court of law??

Just a question folks, anybody please?
forget the tribal issue one minute and kindly explain where you think all the money suddenly came from. come to london and tell me where you think they get the money they spend like ethiope river water. what job did they possibly do that gave them access to the houses they live in?

tubbytubby:

well am enjoying my new job so much am happy i left that useless bank PHB
Do you all remember my thread and all the things i told you guys was going on in that useless bank.FA bit the fingers that fed him,at a point when the money got into his head too much ,he started to talk like GOD.am sure he never knew this could happen to him as he will never have merged FINACORP with BankPHB but now it is too late for him.

I hope he dies soon and his testtube babies die with him, he is so wicked and deserved nothing much from life.he cheats on his wife in front of her and buys cars for women with the bank's money.he chased mary B away and frustrated so many people out of their career in that bank and this is a real case of karma.him and other ED's have a lot of answers for EFCC as i hear those cheated out of the system like mary b and one man (cant remember his name),and so many other people have been submitting all sorts to efcc to nail him to pieces. Also for his loyalists, you people are the worst as some of you are the ones compiling the documents against your former boss.Well old friends always last,if this fool had stuck to aunty mary and not sacked her in shame after all she did for the bank with her "pulala" then he would maybe still be the MD

FA,a word for you is you are a big fool and 419er and your arrogant ways couldnt save you this time.Bastards never live.you better commit suicide, its better than for you to watch the government take a bank you built with your sweat from the beginning, only if you had listened.Over ambitiousness kills. The 2 billion you stole will be returned by force by the government.thief like you.

I wish you roast in hell with a heart attack just as you have made people that suffered with you cry and disgraced them out of the system
mmmmmmmm if men were God.
