Career / Re: Do I Need To Quit My Job ? by ggoldmine: 12:17pm On Apr 01, 2021
What you need is good money management skill. Some earn less and still live just okay. Let me help with some calculations. Using the figures you gave as basis:

Yearly income: #85,000 *12 = #1,020,000
Yearly rent: #140,000
Balance: #880,000
Net weekly earnings: #880,000/52 =~ #16,900
Or
Net monthly earnings: #73,300

You can create a monthly budget around this amount. Consider buying food items in bulk monthly, not in bits. This shouldn't cost more than #40,000 for a decent family. Create a separate account for expenses if you can: this will include monthly rent which is approx. #11,700 and cumulative weekly or monthly expenditures (all subtracted from your salary)

Seriously, I really don't understand how you feel comfortable living on debts when you can easily plan your life around your earnings. If you're considering being a driver, I'll suggest you take driving lessons while doing your current job. Driving is not that difficult.

In addition, I'm not completely in support of you quitting your job, purchasing a car on debt and being a driver. How can you manage debt accrued from running a business with inconsistent income when you haven't been able to manage debt from a recurring income? I'll advise you to think it through. What payback plans have you set in place for your debt? How much will you earn in a month from your driving business (subtracting car expenses like fueling, repairs and maintenance)? Is this earning from your business consistent?

I see a huge turn around for you if you learn how to create budgets and spend within your budget using your salary earnings. You could even save towards a buying a car, then do driving part time. Alternatively, you can seek a high-paying job.

confirmedniggae:
Good evenning all.

I have been having this thought of quitting my job to learn driving in order to pick up an UBER or BOLT job but the fear of getting a car on hire purchase is always coming as an hindrance.

I am a family man whose salary of just #85,000 is not even enough to cater for the family .Before the salary even comes in, there are always debts that have been incurred.

Most times,I dont even get up to #20,000 as a result of debts and seriously I am fed up. Infact , I think of suicide sometimes because i am so depressed right now. I have rent of #140,000 hanging on my neck too.

Please will it be wise to quit to learn driving for purpose of commercial driving job?

Can anyone help clarify what should be in the column for the shareholder's account number? Should it be a bank account number or a stock broking account number?

It might include commission and fees. Have you received a purchase contract?

Toluway:

I wrote them a mail minutes ago.
I earlier sent an order to buy a stock for me at a limit price of #1.50k and #1.80k. The best best offer was #1.80k while the best bid was #1.50k. I bidded for the best offer because the bid outweighed the offer.

So, they ignored my Price Limit and bought for me at #2.04k ! Can you imagine? Even as i am writing now, the price of the stock is #1.98k !

I wonder what is wrong with this boys these days.

Thank you.

If it's last year you bought the shares, it means it was before the closure date and definitely it should be interim dividend because the final dividend proposed by the directors still has 8th of March 2021 as qualification date. You are getting it now because they concluded the processing of the e mandate you sent earlier.

Hello good people. Is Zenith paying or has already paid Interim dividend? I just received an alert and can't tell which is it for, whether last year or this year. I'm quite confused because I bought the shares last year and this is the first dividend I've received.
Thank you.

For Morgan Capital, it is always present on the sales or purchase contract note for every stock bought or sold.

So, I think you should request from your broker.

Why didn't you solicit on this platform, in the first place? The fact that you made it private is questionable. Not just private but also targeted those who have exposed a sizable amount of their investment portfolio here.

LordAdam16:

PSA

I had to allow ample time for commentary before responding.

Silence is not always golden. Posting this for posterity.

===

A nairalander solicited a loan from another nairalander. That is not shocking. There are numerous public loan request threads and posts in this section. I sent a private loan request in confidence because I need a loan. That's the primary reason normal people ask for loans, be it publicly or privately: Because they need it. The potential creditor can choose to accept or refuse the request.

Do I regret sending a dm with a loan request? NO! I'm not naive. I understand that when I send a mail, the choice of what to do with it, is up to the recipient. Whether to ignore, respond, or use it as a meme online is not my call.

Well, it's out here now. Thanks for that. If you're reading this, you have disposable cash, and can afford to extend a loan for one month (at a very good rate for a short term loan), please hit me up. Whatever concerns you have, I'll do my best to assuage them.

The Investment/Business sub-community on Nairaland is small. My post history is public. Anyone can read my posts (and possibly glean insights from them). If you want to get a notification every time I make a post, join my queue of followers. Want to quickly identify me, I always sign off with "-Lord."

I'm productive enough to make my own bread without stealing from anyone. If I need help momentarily, I'll respectfully ask for it. I need a loan today: I'll definitely have an account surplus later this year. Change is constant.

===

PS: If you got this far, you'll notice I did not respond directly to the crusader and ensemble. That is intentional.

Why? Because my f*cks are in short supply.

Anyone who wants to help, please do. If you don't want to help, you don't have to. If you think your time is best spent circle-jerking about a private loan request, by all means, continue.

Good. Next is to gather materials.

To download almost any book do dis.

1. Install Tor Brouser on ur android phone.
2. http : // loginlibhuwhnmis . onion/
3. Visit d site above without d spaces in ur Tor Brouser and register. And search book titles.
4. If u can afford them, please buy them, people put in a lot work to make them.

Books I found helpful:

1. Search for Pandas to access several books on the subject. Note that Pandas is like a spreadsheet but a million times more powerful. The ones I found interesting are:

a) Think in Pandas
b) Hands-on data analysis with pandas
c) Python for Finance (2 different books with same title, both are good)
d) Python data science handbook
e) Python for data analysis

2. For algorithmic trading I found these interesting

a) 151 trading strategies
b) Inside the black box
c) Quantitative trading
d) Build reliable trading systems
e) Algorithmic trading
f) Systematic trading
g) Trading evolved

3. Also search time series analysis.

Ok, ok don't freak out, I don't read them cover to cover, I jump around and try stuff. Very important, u should be trying out the codes in dis books. The gaps in my understanding I plug with google search, stackoverflow, github etc.

Regarding d data I use, I have referenced many times how I get them. I even posted a Google drive link to my data set. Happy learning. wink

Family / Re: My Brother's Marriage Is About To Collapse. by ggoldmine: 11:19pm On Jan 20, 2021
His wife did not turn his children against him, they were able to sense their father's weakness. Your brother lacks audacity, evident in the way his wife controls his demands. He needs to get back in control; not to be mean but spend more time with his children (physically or over the phone), be present in their lives (also communicate the state of his business to them, they might understand), punish them for any form of disobedience and finally, ignore his wife. He needs mental reorientation or he's going to loose it.

omojesu202:
It is no news that most marriages are collapsing.
Mine is just two years but I also see signs of collapse.

What's happening in my brothers marriage is painful to me because I know the financial investment and sacrifices he puts into it. I don't know what he did to his wife but she has turned his children against him.

Imagine that you cannot tell your 20 years old first son to wash your car like 7am, the mother will tell you that you should allow him to enjoy his sleep. Not once, not twice and not thrice.
This is the children you'll go hungry and borrow money to pay high school fees to make sure they go to good schools.

It is painful to me because I knew when he was paying 200k per term each on three kids while his basic was just 300k.

Now the firstborn and secondborn will disobey him on ordinary washing of car just because he can no longer meet up.

Please how would you handle such issues?
You might just hear that a man killed his wife and three children in the news. That would not be our portion.

From outside, she has been a good woman but she didn't blend the children to their father. The nature of his job takes him on transfer always and not stationed with his family but regular monthly visit is always there.

Education / Re: Studying Or Learning Handiwork, Which Is Better. Pls Help A 20year Old. by ggoldmine: 11:15am On Nov 30, 2020
What difference does learning a skill now make since you'll have to go to school anyway? It only means that you'll have to shuffle your timeline; study now, learn skills later.

He's also agreed to pay you as a gatekeeper whilst studying. You'll still need a job if you decide to learn a skill first because you won't be paid for learning a skill. If you're thinking of learning a skill while working as a gatekeeper, would your sponsor be willing to wait or finance your skills? I don't think so. You mentioned he's sponsored individuals through higher education not learning skills.

How bad is your WAEC/SSCE? You don't need a perfect result to gain admission into a polytechnic.

roldet804:
Good morning Nlanders

I know it's a bit lengthy
But pls read carefully

I'm currently an SSCE holder
It's been four years since I graduated from
secondary school
I lost by mom when I was 9 and my dad joined when I was 16
Right now am 20years of age

To cut the story short
I got a job as a security recently, being paid 20k plus free feeding and accommodation

My boss is a very kind hearted person.
He one day called me and asked of my academic qualifications which I gave to him
He asked if I'd love to further my education and I said yes.
He then asked me to go and do some research on how I'll start studying electrical engineering(note I made the choice of the course) at a polythecnic and then give him feedback.

According to him I'll leave for school in the morning then come back by evening and continue with my duties. And at the end of the month I'll still be paid my salary.
And he'll sponsor me through school.
Although my waec result wasn't so good so I'm thinking of writing GCE.

But you see, with the way things are going on in the country, I was planning to go and learn a handiwork first preferably mechanic before furthering my education.
Now someone showed up,
1 he has the money
2 he has connections like crazy
3 and he's willing to put me through school
4 there are stories of him training and giving people jobs at offshore etc.

I would have loved to get the money for school and start business o, but, since it's a helping hand offered for free I just decided to keep mute.
I have atwo siblings looking up to me although one is working and the other Is in SS1

Opportunity they say knocks but once
But at this point I'm confused on what to do
It's ok to criticize, insult or advice, they're all welcome
I need your take on this
Thanks for your contribution
