PoliticsRe: Fadeyi Youths At It Again by gidig(m): 11:58am On May 31, 2012
It is not just about Government creating jobs for them. These people are just plain trouble makers and should be dealt with ruthlessly! To even think that there is a police station right across them is more worrisome.
EducationRe: Renaming Of UNILAG A Surprise - Acting V.C Bello by gidig(m): 5:58pm On May 30, 2012
@ Mickey Moore, I don't totally agree with your thinking here. It is exactly this line of thinking that informed this unwise decision. It is pure tokenism to get the south west to warm up to Jonathan and the PDP. According to a former Odua movement leader, it was something that Obasanjo had proposed tpo yoruba leaders when he was president to appease the many activists from the South West, who wanted MKO acknowledged. They wanted something National in the Federal Capital to mark his contributions to democracy and OBJ and the powers that be did not want that. The truth is they still dont want that. OBJ had proposed UI or UNILAG and the activists turned it down. The PDP lords were willing to concede anything in Abiola's region of the country. That way, his influence couldn't have been more than regional and Yoruba. MKO was bigger than the South West. He got a pan Nigerian Mandate. Isn't it curious that the same PDP that found it so difficult to name the National Stadium in Abuja after him were so eager to apply this name change to an institution like UNILAG without even consulting the senate of the university?
Secondly, the timing is attempt an humiliation of Obasanjo, who has been saying very uncomplimentary things about the PDP, from whose board he has retired. If this had gone very well, President Jonathan would have been a hero, who did for the South West what their own son could not even do by acknowledging MKO Abiola. There is a growing realisation that this region will play a major role in deciding his second term election. Afterall, the people of the region voted him in on the basis of the persecution he suffered in the hands of the cabal, who didnt want a candidate in the minority in after President yar adua died.
That the students demonstrated is not a disrespect of MKO and all he stood for- it is the disdain with which the federal Government is help by majority of Nigerians. It is even more cruel that someone from the academia can show so much disrespect for the heritage of the University of Lagos. They could have bounced the idea off the community and listened for feedback. They may go ahead and name it MAUL against the protest and the outcry. Who says it cant be returned back to its original name by another Government that wants to win the people over?
PoliticsRe: NUPENG Threatens Strike Over Sacked Lagos Doctors by gidig(m): 6:03pm On May 26, 2012
I really feel for the doctors but listening to both sides,I sense that they both have points that they are holding on to. Lagos employs quite a lot of doctors and does not get the same fraction of the money the federal Government gets. So, the doctors have to be realistic here and cant just make comparison based on the standard set by the Federal Government. Its called a federalism. if you cant deal with it, get a job with the Federal Government! And I doubt if other unions in the health sector will not go on strike making their own demands of a higher wage based on the doctors payment too. Its a very complicated situation worsened by the stupid decision to sack those doctors. NUPENG may draw more attention to it with this strike but its a union that has almost wasted its capital with the masses. It may just force the Government to take steps to take the doctors back or worsen it by turning the people against the initial cause. much of what is going on is totally unnecessary.

EventsRe: Leke Alder: Theplatform 10.0 : Cultural Innovation Live by gidig(m): 8:10pm On May 01, 2012
I was at the event today and i think it was commendable. Some of the comments here are just a reflection of how things have turned in Nigeria. many of the people making all these comments dont have anything they are doing themselves to better things but they will attack anything being done by anyone else. its not a nairaland thing- its the sad state of things in Nigeria. The sad state that successive leadership failures have done to the minds of our future leaders. Three lines of arguments cant be made without resorting to abuse and curses. Yet, they feel they will do better than those running this nation aground now. Its sad!
BusinessRe: Gtbank Ebanking Is Becoming Lousy by gidig(m): 5:48am On Mar 08, 2012
GTBank has become a victim of its own success. The number of people who have moved from other banks to GTBank as a result of Sanusi's policies has been responsible for the banks many challenges. I am still shocked that they are not trying to open up new branches to cope with the crowd. Even their e banking is being affected. They had a down time yesterday, which i noticed too but i think it came back on. They just need to deal with the crowd. its beginning to affect their operations. Every branch is crowded now and i cant go back to the crappy 1980s banking ideology of some Nigerian banks i was subjected to before finding GTBank.
CelebritiesRe: The Three Divas Of Talk Show In Nigeria, Who Do You Consider The Best? by gidig(m): 8:25am On Feb 25, 2012
@Lolamide, it was reported a few years ago that one oga in NTA dubbed over the Village Headmaster tapes. So, no hope there. For me, I will pick Funmi because she cuts across and it was a humble beginning for her show and I saw it evolve. Mo, I also like but not as much as Funmi. Mo's show still comes across as elitist at times. You get teh sense that Funmi iyanda's goal is more than just a show and appearance but influence. Agatha, i never really bother to watch. Nothing wrong with her but she just does not get to me at all.
TV/MoviesRe: Nigerians Are Cowards (Half Of A Yellow Sun Casting) by gidig(m): 5:22pm On Jan 30, 2012
Its a movie and the people investing in the movie call the shots. The same cry came up when the film The last Air bender came out, that people complained that the boy was more caucasian than Asian. Was Fela in Broadway played by a Nigerian? Stop all these generalization about how terrible Nigerians are because of this adaptation. The people who are making the movie are the ones who gave the Nigerian in question all the awards she got. So, its left to her to insist that this is how it should go, depending on the kind of contract they have. In the end, the producers will be looking for figures not cultural promotion. So, put your shirt on. If all the Nollywood people feel so strong about it, why didn't they do something before now?

And don't assume that they will just put in an artiste in a movie on the basis of her tribe. Will the script not be in English? Just because we are content with their acting here does not mean other producers are. So, make una take am easy.

BusinessRe: Listening To Sanusi, I Am Proud To Be A Nigerian! by gidig(m): 9:53am On Jul 28, 2011
Just because of the way the CBN Governor handled this whole Islamic bank issue, it has raised unnecessary dust. I am a Christian and I do not have any issue with the establishment of banks as along as they do not interfere with conventional banks in Nigeria. And in any case, a banking product like this was offered by the now-merged Habib bank.  The problem is really with his initial insistence that Islamic Compliant banking shall be the only form of Non-interest banking in Nigeria, with a heavy dose of Sharia modality and personnel in place. What a more temperate person would have done was to leave a window open for anyone who wants to practice their own form of Non-Interest banking. He has a strong personality and quite intelligent. Such people will push anything they believe in through and go all the way_even if they are heading in the wrong direction!

Quite a few people don't even know how this operate. They imagine free money from this Islamic banks. I do not know the finer details but the way it works is more like an investment into whatever you need money for and the profit or loss is then shared. So< those of you who have been fantasizing about free money should please wake up.
IslamRe: Sanusi Warns Muslims Against Joining Issues With Christians by gidig(m): 3:12pm On Jul 05, 2011
There have been a bit of rash reactions on both sides. There really shouldn't be anything wrong with Islamic banking. It is practiced in some countries in the west. what was wrong was the way the CBN governor went about it and a deliberate classification of all forms of Non-Interest Banking as Islamic. Islamic banking should really be one of the derived forms of Non-Interest banking.  Anyone who meets the guideline as set by the CBN should be able to practice it. But from the response of the CBN Governor so far, he does not want to tweak what he has presented a bit. That is where I have become very suspicious. he seems to be saying that there are two kinds of banking in Nigeria-the general banking and Islamic banking, when it should be interest based banking and non-interest based banking.

For years Christians have participated in regular banking and some churches have established micro-finance banks in compliance with banking rules, without asking for any special attention. why is the CBN Governor pushing this Islamic banking as the only form of Non-Interest banking that we can have, with a a strict adherence to the sharia code. That is what even professionals are worried about- not whether muslims are liked or hated.
SportsRe: Lagos Fans And Booing: Whats Your Take? by gidig(m): 6:23pm On Feb 11, 2011
I can see from the posts here that some of you do not know the things that made the 94 set very great. Is it just coincidence that the downward turn of the Eagles was about the same time their matches were moved away from Lagos. As bad as this was, it puts every player on his toe. You have to give your all when you wear that jersey-that is what is missing in Abuja, where people are begged to come to the stadium to watch.

I passed through surulere area of Lagos four hours before that match and it was a carnival atmosphere outside. you now expect those people to keep their passion in check when they get into the stadium? In the 90s, we used to get to the National Stadium by 11am for a match that will be played at 4pm. We would go to the training sessions days before the match and the players have a feel of what to expect on match day. They come in on that day with a lot of passion and determination. That has been lost of this current generation of players and I believe that they should be subjected to the same pressure that the previous generation were made to go through.

It may sound very complicated but its as simple as that- our team needs to feel the people they play for. If they are content with just being celebrity, they can go into music.

CultureRe: Yoruba Traditional Marriage - What Are The Steps Involved? Pls Help: by gidig(m): 4:12pm On Jun 28, 2010
I have attended quite a few and I still think you will need someone from your family to be engaged in the negotiations. It is not very rigid as there will demand for a bride price from your groom's family. These will be all sorts of things ranging from food items to gifts and clothes. There will be a rep (they are usually for hire and they bring some comic relief to the ceremony- ask your groom's friends to come with naira notes. Go for the lower denomination to spread around the different 'Taxes' they will pay )  from both sides who will engage in the negotiation. The bride price would have be agreed on at the introduction. That is the gist of it.
PoliticsRe: Senate Begins Ministerial Screening Today! by gidig(m): 9:13am On Mar 30, 2010
I wept for this country when I heard that Senator Kanti's drama. How did an obviously daft individual like that make it to the senate of a country in the first place? He had no intelligent question for Professor Dora- who was obviously more learned and intelligent than he is. Is this the best the Cabal can muster? shouting at people? their time is up in Nigeria. People of Northern extraction will do well to look for people who ave basic intelligence to represent them. There are also lots of idiots from the South but at least, they can hold a decent conversation!
BusinessRe: Gtbank: The Most Trusted Bank? by gidig(m): 1:43pm On Mar 21, 2010
This is the GTconnect line that I use every time for all my transactions. 08029002900. You should also cross check anything with their site. Nobody will ask for your PIN in GTbank. I did lose my Mastercard ATM card two weeks ago and I simply dialed the number to block it and request for another one.
BusinessRe: Gtbank: The Most Trusted Bank? by gidig(m): 9:02pm On Mar 20, 2010
I ave been a GTBank customer for years now. From the day I opened a current account with them without a single kobo. I was shocked to find out that I could withdraw all the money in my account at any given time without having to leave N2000 balance in my account as it was the case with the UBA where I was coming from. Right now, I am not ashamed to say that it is the only bank I use for all my transactions. I can make easy transfer to accounts anytime from my PC or by phone, as along as I ave my token. It was like moving from a typewriter to a PC! Bye Bye to banking by muscle and welcome to banking with ease! UBA deducted the life out of the account I opened with them, with very crazy charges. I dpnt know about other banks but UBA punished me before GTBank came along.

However,a few months ago, when many bank CEO were being hounded and banks being messed up, I noticed that GTBank suddenly started attracting a lot of unusual customers that made me stay longer than the few minutes I was used to. I was disappointed at the development until I read an interview of their CEO, who said many people were moving to their banks at rates that affected their infrastructure and their services. Within a month, they are back to the services I enjoy.

It is evident now that they ave to open a few new branches, especially in Lagos State, where their branches are still crowded.

GTBank is the best.
RomanceRe: Must One Dance On The Wedding Day? by gidig(m): 9:15am On Feb 01, 2010
Take my advice, if it is a Yoruba wedding, just swing from side to side with a smile on your face and you are home and dry. to make it very effective, both you and your spouse should agree to simply dance that way, focused on yourselves. It is your wedding and not a dancing competition. There is no evidence anywhere in the world that couples who dance vigorously at their weddings have a happy marriage. If you are putting yourself under pressure because of what people expect you do on your wedding, that is not a good sign. It is your life! If you dont want to be 'sprayed' with naira notes at the wedding, dance to your favourite western romantic song and you are home and Dry.

IN summary, it is your wedding! YOUR WEDDING!

I think it was not only guardian that chose him as man of the year. About three Nigerian newspapers have already done so- Vanguard and I think Sun Newspapers.
CareerRe: GTBank Vs Zenith Bank by gidig(m): 8:39am On Dec 21, 2009
GTB is it. All banks have their challenges. Ave banked with Zenith, UBA, Citizen (before they became Spring) and FCMB. I will give it to GTBank anyday. They have stayed focus over the last few years and did not get into the big this-big that competition that other banks got into before Sanusi. I have my issues with them but I will give it to GTB anyday.

@2black.

Sorry if I clarifies things in ways that upset you. The internet is a very great platform for business and Scam. Anyone could have copied the same pictures and posted them here to dupe people. If you had taken the new pictures, it would have clarified things. I actually did not want this traced to something I had posted months back and people start asking questions.

Hope you have a great sale.
AutosRe: Nissan Maxima 96 Model Very Affordable. by gidig(m): 7:41am On Nov 25, 2009
Buyers beware! I helped my neighbour sell this same car over a year ago on this same site!!! In fact, the picture used here was copied from the post from which this car was sold on nairaland. I do not know what is going on here but I smell a big scam. So buyers beware. The location of this photo was Lawanson and the irony is that the wall no longer exists if you go there there.

Nairaland is really becoming something else. Genuine people doing business are being being hamstrung
