Another thing that runs hand in hand with complaining is arguing. Arguing is a dumb waste of time that gets you riled up for no reason. It just keeps you busy not really doing anything tangible.

If you value your time, don’t do it. And always remember: Action > Words.

So, if you want next year to be better for your life, either: take active part in making political change (online activism doesn’t count), or, don’t read anything and don’t say anything about politics and focus on yourself.

Put more simply: Do something about it or stop reacting.

3. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
No matter what you may accomplish in the future, no matter how much of what you think will make you happy, your level of happiness in the future will likely stay the same.

Most people don’t realize how great they already have it until they lose it. Instead of waiting for that eventuality, try to appreciate
what you already have by practicing gratitude. I know it’s not easy if you’re ambitious, but try.

4. SYSTEM OVER GOALS
Some of you may disagree, but I believe having vague goals with solid system is better than having solid goals with vague plans.

Goals often change and evolve over time as you gain more life experience, but the path towards accomplishment is usually solid and requires your dedication.

So, if you’re planning to create another new year’s resolution that looks more like a wish list of things you want, scrap it and look
for ways to engineer your lifestyle by planning a system for development instead.

5. CULTIVATE DISCIPLINE
You’re a slave to your circumstances and weaknesses until you have the necessary discipline to be steadfast.

My biggest regrets of this year happened because stress and emotional disturbance destroyed my productivity
and mental frame.

I lost countless hours that could have been put to work by being wavered by mere feelilngs. If you want to do anything better next year, learn to cultivate discipline first and foremost.

6. ALWAYS DO SOMETHING WORTH WHILE
I’ve noticed that all the guilt I have about having wasted my valuable time comes down to the fact that I gained no lasting value out of it.

For example, I feel bad about all the time that I wasted watching unnecessary movies because I gained nothing worthwhile out of them, only momentary pleasure.

On the other hand, I have no guilt associated with all the time I spent working out or learning something valuable—even when I failed and even if they were painful—because what I gained from them still stays with me.

The key to having a better life is to do what will benefit you over time with and not be caught up by instant gratification that is usually short lived. Aim long-term and learn to enjoy the process.

7. RENEW YOURSELF
It’s easy to get stuck in a loop in our modern world. If you feel bored or unmotivated, try something completely different to shock yourself alive.

Self development is not always about adding you also need to substract.
Sometimes, it’s more important to cut out the bad activities than to do something good.
If you’re serious about making your life better, the time is now to stop the thing that’s holding you back. Shed the old you to renew yourself.

8. BE CONTENT
By far the most important lesson I learned this year was that nothing matters if you’re not content. Sure, you could potentially devote yourself to a higher meaning or purpose to forget about how brief and insignificant your life is in the grand scheme of things, but why not do it in a position of contentment?

Why live a life of perpetual frustration and longing where you constantly chase things that you think will satisfy you?

Whatever you want in life, they will not go away just because you decide to be content with where you are now. In fact, contentment may even help you achieve your goals better as you won’t be as outcome-oriented, allowing you to focus more on the process instead. No amount of money, sex, and “success” is worth grinding your life away.


9. GET REGULAR SLEEP
As someone who gets completely derailed if sleep is delayed by an hour or if I have to wake up earlier than usual, I don’t know how others manage to function with irregular sleep patterns.

Sleep is a vital aspect of your health and you should aim to prioritize it as much as exercise and diet.

10. THERE IS ALWAYS A SECOND CHANCE
I see a year as a microcosm of life. You make plans, you have expectations, but things unfold in ways you didn’t expect at all.

My principle in life is to expect the best but always prepare for the worst. As Mike Tyson will say, " Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face."

Just because your plans didn't work out due to the vicissitudes of life doesn't mean you give up on your goals and life in general.

Unlike the one life we have, you get another year, another chance to do better. We shouldn’t take such an opportunity so lightly.

Plan your 2024 well, 2023 is gone.

Make use of your time wisely for at the end of it all, you will look back and reflect on what has come to pass and realize just how fast time goes by.

The very idea of not being self-sufficient in your own staple food is absolutely crazy.

Meanwhile we all live in the present tense which is horrible and our past tense has been terrible.

If only you know the inner parts of the Nigerian economy today you would realize that investors will not come as presently constituted.

Let me give you some insight of investors regardless who says what.

Inflation and interest rates - Inflation is presently at 28.6% and rising, meaning that lenders will never lend below that rate. Meaning also that investors need to recover their investments returns at a rate greater than inflation otherwise they make a loss.

Now what can Nigeria do to drop inflation? She needs investors money (which isn’t coming until inflation rates drop and therefore returns rates rise) and she doesn’t have any more in the purse to do this herself as she has borrowed to squander as she always does and she owes much more than she can repay- So it’s a Catch 22!

Shell and Total as well as other IOCs are divesting onshore and shallow water assets which are in the JV contracts and then focusing on their Deep water assets which are in PSC contracts easy to lift off and in their control. So nothing comes to Naija as she is still owing them in JV contracts obligations.

$7B has been borrowed to stabilize Naira and we know where it’s going e.g N2.7B for Dubai trip climate holidays. Meanwhile NLNG future dividends have been mortgaged for the next 10-15 yrs to borrow these monies.

Research historically about investments and you will see deeper into those links you posted. Some of us know better. Time for motivational speaking has passed.

Using 2023 data, and the policy direction of this government. Straight to the point:

1. For scarcity: Will increase. Insecurity from bandits and herdsmen, flooding, poor storage and transport. Recent reports that foreigners are buying off products thereby increasing price. What’s the budget for agriculture?

2. Currency scarcity. It’s already here. It costs money to print more.

3. Fuel scarcity: Not necessarily scarcity but higher price. Dangote is not a charity, neither is Ph refinery. Subsidy as they said is gone and even if it is not, there is no money for it.

4. Forex scarcity will increase. Even though any refinery will reduce that portion of forex demand allocated to petrol and diesel,it’s a small component and we have huge remittance backlogs to creditors and airlines. Plus we manufacture nothing of interest to the world.

I believe there's a coordinated attempt to instill fear in the minds of Nigeria concerning 2024.
I read Dr Sobowale column in the Vanguard online edition today and I was really bemused and flabbergasted,his doom day prophecy concerning 2024 is worse than what Isreal faced in the bible during the famine and drought of Prophet Elijah.
He predicted food scarcity, currency scarcity,fuel scarcity,forex scarcity and concluded 2024 will be very difficult year for Nigerians.
Bloomberg has decided to follow the same pattern as the Dr of Doom by predicting the Nigerian currency will perform terribly in 2024 meaning expect more devaluation of the currency next year.
I beg to disagree with all these Messages of Doom being released by these so called experts,even when Baba Buhari with his Buharinomics was using 98% of our earnings to pay off foreign debt,the Naira didn't collapse.
These experts all have something in common,they always try to downplay the significant impact the Dangote Refinery and the port Harcourt refinery will have on the economy of Nigeria.
In the report by Bloomberg,they alluded that things will get better if Nigeria is able to produce more crude oil,I daresay Nigeria is already producing more,with local refining expected to Increase significantly in 2024, Nigeria will definitely produce more.
2024 is the year my country will turn a corner for good,like Dr Rewane said, revenues have increased by 200%,the states and local government have more money to work with.
I can testify to this because my mother's pension in Lagos state was increased by 105% in the month of December.
Naysayers should keep their message of Doom cos things are about to get better in Nigeria.
