PoliticsRe: Helicopters Deliver Apology Messages From Boko Haram In Adamawa. by gists: 4:44pm On Feb 21, 2015
Boko Haram apologises? By dropping leaflets from helicopter in Nigerian airspace and we want to pretend the government doesn't know about it? I thought the government claimed there is now full radar coverage for the Nigerian airspace yet they claim they don't know who own that aircraft and where it took off and where it landed. March28 and May 29 will soon be here. Some people will be given 500 years jail term.

Open Letter to Barcanista :- Have a rethink.

It is no news that you have chosen to turn your back against the progressive movement, owing obviously to the controversies surrounding some threads you created before your final exit decision, especially this thread: https://www.nairaland.com/2149476/interim-national-government-one-propaganda, which you created on February 15, and some other reasons best known to you.

In order to pacify you and the aggrieved progressives, I created this thread titled: "Calling The PROGRESSIVES To Order" https://www.nairaland.com/2150858/calling-progressives-order, but this burning fire of anger remains non-extinguishable.
Even if it could be extinguished, the TANoid folks have chosen to keep adding more petrol to this fire, because they have finally been able to get their target, that is you.

Perhaps you do not know; there are many consequences attached to your actions based on your grievances. Our actions, no matter how little it seems, have a way of influencing people around us.

The enigmatic Barcanista, permit me to divide my message into two categories:

THE RELIGION ASPECT:
You are God sent in your own way, you have a responsibility to save Nigeria from the hands of bad leaders. Jesus Christ was sent to the world to save souls, during his quest, he encountered series of challenges, he was also betrayed.
He never, as a result of that stopped his mission, the same applies to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
So why would you let feeling betrayed stop your mission?

THE FUTURE OF NIGERIA
The future of Nigeria and our unborn children is in your hand, my hand, our hands. Check the number of followers you have on this forum.

Do you know you have been an "eye opener" to so many people on this forum based on the educative thread you always create?

Do you know you are a source of inspiration to your followers, even guests on this forum?

Do you know how many people will vote for or against a particular candidate based on your influence?

Do you want Nigeria to remain like this for another 4 years?

If, by mistake, we repeat the error of voting GEJ as we did in 2011, and the following continues for another 4 years:
*More casualties in the North.
*More innocent girls being kidnapped.
*More youths dieing in stampede in a quest to get employed (as witnessed in the Immigration recruitment exercise).
*More corruption and looting continues based on the belief that stealing is not corruption.

Have it at the back of your mind and your conscience that you are one of those who cause it, by encouraging people to vote for an incapable leader.

The movement for CHANGE is not only about you or me, it's about Nigeria; it's about posterity.
If you truly love this country, you would not let personal attacks against you be the reason you turn against the CHANGE that Nigerians have been hoping for, through General Muhammadu Buhari.

It's not about Tinubu, not Atiku and others, it's about the personality of GMB and his record on integrity.

Please, have a rethink, I still remain your follower on Nairaland, and you remain a respectable personality to me.

In conclusion, I will leave you with this quotes:
"If you are patient in one moment of anger, you
will escape a hundred days of sorrow"
*
“Never speak out of anger,
Never act out of fear,
Never choose from impatience,
But wait... and inner happiness will appear.”

-Medamillion-
Barcanista and every other Nigerian has every right to switch to any party at any time they like - regardless of how selfish/naive the reason/motive for switching. I want to believe he is old enough to take decisions for himself. Nobody put a gun on his head to start supporting APC and nobody should try to compel him to come back to APC. APC/PDP/APFA/LP is bigger than any individual. So, let this issue rest and move on abeg. He is not the first and may not be the last to switch sides.
PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Story Will Change In Two Weeks – Jonathan by gists: 9:55pm On Feb 19, 2015
Sir, the question is why are you so sure the situation will change within two weeks? Is it because election is around the corner? What military strategy is now in place that was not in place for the last five years? Note that over the past five years, all our neighbours and even hunters and civilian JTF have all recorded some level of victories over boko haram except the Nigerian Army. So your optimism of victory cannot be because our neighbours have now officially joined the fight against boko haram.

If you are so confident that the situation will change (hopefully for the better), it means the Nigerian Army have always had the capacity and competence to deal decisively with boko haram but were incapacitated by "orders from above". So this means your administration presided over the killing of 1000s of Nigerians and brave members of the Nigerian army owing to failure of your government to eliminate boko haram for over a period of 5 years even though we have the capacity - as you are now assuring us - to do it in 2 weeks.

Nigerians have noticed, and will make our decision known on the 28 of March.

Thank you

Whynotthetruth:
Sure, gullible and open minded Nigerians will clap but the ones with burdens of hatred will moan and cast it away as nothing...
If previous administration did same without much hullabaloo; how come you saw it in the news?...

Due to your hatred and prejudice against people who doesn't even know of your existence; you fail to read with reason. Let me help you here. The difference between what previous administration did and what NOI is doing is very big and obvious. Howhuh....Past government just did routine investigation and found out some ghost workers and flushed them out. But these are replaced almost immediately by same notorious officers in civil service.
In the case of GEJ now;he is using technological innovations as such countries like New Zealand did. Those technology and systemic platforms are being set up now and once you want to manipulate it; it will shut down. So no matter what you do there now; shortchanging the system won't be easy since no transaction can be concluded by one person or two persons alone....Replacing them won't be easy as before and the platforms or softwares will sure outlive his term and subsequent government won't have the burden of ghost workers again...it is w cashless system now....
Did I make any sense to you? or you still wanna stick with your prejudice? It is a choice bro...
your gullibility know no bounds. If you clicked the link and read the article, you would have noticed that it was not in the press as at when each exercise was done and even your so called technological innovation is not so new in Nigeria. Hence, and all the points you raised were trash. So, you can continue to be "honestly gullible" and keep clapping for this. Or even if you don't want to ask the tough question of what has happened to the supposed saved N200B, you should at least ask what has happened to the heads of the ministries where the ghost workers were found.

At the end of the day, the people deserve the government it gets.

My brother, they don't have anything to show other than to keep repeating routine exercise and gullible Nigerians will clap. How many time in the past have ghost workers been uncovered and billions saved. NOI wants us to believe she has done what has never been achieved before but the truth is this kind of exercise had been done in the past without any form of jamboree and devoid of glory seeking:

GHOST workers and indulgent exorcists
on June 17, 2013

While speaking at the Edo State Technology Day in July 2011, Governor Oshiomhonle also revealed that, prior to the advent of his administration, “the State had to contend with the phenomena of ghost workers and ghost pensioners in addition to other abuses of the payroll system”.

Also, in July 2011, the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board reported losses of N2.4bn annually to 1477 ghost workers, while the National Identity Management Commission, in the same month, also revealed that, after conducting a biometric data exercise, it had uncovered 4000 ghost workers out of about 10,300 employees on its payroll.

The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has also lamented the realization that, prior to his administration, the Ekiti State government loses over N3bn annually to ghost workers out of a projected annual budget of N80bn. In May 2009, the House of Representative Committees on Customs and Excise also discovered that about 50% of the 20,000 workforce in the Nigeria Customs Service were ghost workers.

Certainly, federal government is not immune to similar fraudulent revenue leakages; indeed, as far back as 2001, the incumbent Accountant General of the Federation, Chief Joseph Naiyeju, reported the discovery of 40,000 ghost workers following a man-power verification exercise conducted by the federal government.

Similarly, when Mallam Nasir El Rufai was Minister, of the Federal Capital Territory in 2006, 6000 ghost workers were detected after the completion of a staff audit, which also revealed that the FCT government was losing about $8m annually, due to ghost workers on its payroll.

The Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) with El Rufai as Chairman, consequently signed a World Bank sponsored $4.9m contract with the Nigerian-based System Specs Consortium in October 2006, for the provision of a more coherent Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).

Former Finance Minister, Mr. Olusegun Aganga, in July 2011, reported that the federal government had removed a total of 43,000 ghost workers from the old payroll of 112,000 employees in several MDAs, between 2010 and 2011, through the implementation of the IPPIS! The IPPIS system is a biometric system, where the data of every government employee is captured so that salary payment can be made directly into the correct bank account.

The point is discovery of ghost workers sadly is not new as many administrations have done this before without jamboree and glory seeking.
Madam NOI, please don't insult us any further because we know the next thing we will see is that this will make it to the list of GEJ's achievements (if its not there already)

I didn't want to be a part of this thread until I read this your response. People have moved from PDP to APC and vise-versa and nothing happened. The reason why your case is different is your reason/motive for moving. Of course you (and every Nigerian) have the right to switch allegiance to any party at any time of your choice, but people wonder if you were sincere and true to your apc stance initially if you can just change simply because some APC members disagreed with your opinion (I don't want to go into the issue of your PM communication with Gbawe). So does it mean you will also switch to APGA or LP or even Kowa tomorrow if you have another disagreement with PDP members (or whatever party you now support).
You are the one displaying intolerance here. Why should anyone who truly believed in a movement just switched to the opposing school of thought after a mere disagreement with his/her colleagues. As I said, while you have every right to decamp, your reason for decamping (mere disagreement with NL APC supporters) shows you never really believed in the movement - which shows you are the one that is not tolerant.

Or why the minister of Finance/CBN governor has been quiet about the economy lately.

You people really are not tracking the inflation numbers are you? I pity us
Thanks my brother.
I completely agree with you. But I have dealt with people opening threads like this in the past and I can assure you they have ready-made answer. They will simply avoid that question by asking you to stay on this topic which is meant to look at OBJ. They will go further and ask you to open a new topic for your question. That is how sneaky they are.

OBJ has never been a saint and I am sure he himself must have admitted that in the past. But nobody can accuse OBJ of being tribalistic like this daunce of a president. OBJ tactically defused OPC - a criminal/militia group from his own tribe. Compare that with the arming and billion dollar contract GEJ is giving to ND militants to the extent that they can come on air and threaten the entire nation.
Inspite of this, we are voting GMB/PYO and not OBJ, so I don't see the relevance of this thread to start with.

OP,
Many thanks for this.
But yet again just like your recent topics, I have to oppose you yet again because you forget so very salient facts.
True most, if not all of these things you said are true and that is why some of us have never and probably will never be OBJ's fan. But the fact remains that with all of his shortcomings, he achieved far more than GEJ. The Local content development initiative, the pension reform, the initialisation of the privatisation of NEPA (he unbundled NEPA to PHCN and separated into business units) and banking consolidation exercises are some of his great achievements which are yet to be matched by any of his successors. we are talking about a man who left the safety of his house and went to meet boko haram in search of peace for the country without the security of the Nigerian armed forces. If my memory serves me right, it took the president several month to visit Maiduguri despite the fact that he has all the armed forces under his control.

That notwithstanding. The most important fact you forgot (or mischievously left out) is that we are not voting OBJ, and he does not carry an APC membership card.
I don't see the relevance of this thread to the electorates towards the coming election. Are we supposed to vote PDP now because OBJ is no more a PDP member? Stop being childish with this your flip-flopping simply because your erstwhile "co-progressives" disagreed with you on some points. Like someone asked you on another thread "do you change family simply because you have a disagreement with your family member?"

Finally thanks again for reminding us some of OBJ's dark side. But #IHaveDecided I am voting #GMB/PYO not OBJ.

I wonder how barca now think that GEJ is a saint. He talked about this not being constitutional. But I hope he has not forgotten the "I don't give a damn" outburst of the president when he deliberately went against the constitution by not declaring his asset. Also let not forget that GEJ got a large sum from a donor more than constitutionally allowed towards his campaign bid. I am not a lawyer, but is it not a case of neglect of constitutional responsibility for Nigerian Army to say it cannot guaranty safety on just one day? If all these happened, how can we say GEJ cannot attempt this simply because we think it is unconstitutional? The excuse of this being illegal or unconstitutional does not hold water at all.

Firstly, Jonathan had told the US Secretary of State Mr John Kerry that the election will be held and a New Government inaugurated come May 29. President Jonathan repeated the statement in his media chat. So far, there has been no clue as to whether he plans to remain indefinitely. He also debunked the story of handing over to the Military or any illegal government

Secondly, the talk of Interim National Government is alien to our constitution. There is no way that can happen when we have no constitutional crises. There is no way Abdulsalam or Minimah can assume power except there is a coup. If there is any, then there will be a counter coup. Assuming Jonathan even considers bribing the NASS to get the six(6) months extension, he doesn't need an Abdulsalam or an ING to lead during the extension period. Section 135(3) of the Constitution is very clear that the incumbent preside over the country for the period of any extension. Considering that the opposition controls the House, the ruling party have the Senate, except there is a compromise, that will not scale through.
I wanted to keep quiet for now on this thread because this is coming from barca. But I feel like making just a point because of the highlighted paragraph.

Is it not the same president that promised not to go for re-election? Is it not the same president that told Christiane Amanpour that electricity is now stable in Nigeria? That is a bold-face lie on international New TV! And he said it comfortably and naturally. He even went further by saying ordinary citizens on the street of Lagos will attest to the improve power and urged CNN to conduct interviews with the people. There are too many lies this man has made in the past few years. I am just wondering how come barcanista thinks GEJ was not in his usual self LYING TO KERRY. That GEJ told Kerry that election will hold doesn't mean he meant it or at least doesn't mean he hasn't changed his mind after the meeting with Kerry.

I didn't take the sahara reporter message seriously until I read the part that said Abdulsallam was contacted about heading the ING but he not only rejected it but also reported to some people. I don't know if the story is true or not, but as far as I am concerned all politicians are a$sholes and it looks like GEJ is the biggest a$shole among then in Nigeria. Hence, I won't put this beyond him.

The article that claimed 30 trillion has been stolen in nigeria while our budget for fours years is approximately 18 trillion undecided.Think boy think that figure is outrageous and impossible thereby degrading the entire article
Boy, think. Is that the only content of the article? How come you missed this part from the first article:

Under our democratic experience, President Obasanjo inherited a bankrupt economy (with the lost decade of the 1990’s GDP growth rate of 2.2% and hence zero per capita income growth for the decade). His regime consolidated and deepened the market economy structures (consolidation of the banking system which is powering the emergence of a new but truly private sector-led economy and simultaneously led to a new awareness and boom in the capital market; telecommunications revolution; new pension regime; debt relief which won for Nigeria policy independence from the World Bank and Paris Club; deepening of de-regulation and privatization including the unbundling of NEPA under PHCN for privatization; agricultural revolution that saw yearly growth rate of over 6% and remains unsurpassed ever since; sound monetary and fiscal policy and growing foreign reserves that gave confidence to investors; establishment of the Africa Finance Corporation which is leading infrastructure finance in Africa; backward integration policy that saw the establishment and growth of Dangote cement and others; established ICPC and EFCC to fight corruption, etc).

The economy roared to average yearly growth of 7% between 2003 and 2007 (although average monthly oil price under his regime was $38), and poverty dropped from estimated 70% in1999 to 54% in 2004. Obasanjo was his own coordinating minister of the economy and chairman of the economic management team— which he chaired for 90 minutes every week. I met with him daily. In other words, he did not outsource economic management.

We expected that the next government after Obasanjo would take the economy to the next level. So far, we have had two great slogans: the 7-point agenda and currently, the transformation agenda. They remain empty slogans without content or direction.
Here is an extract from the second article:
Now, to some skeletal facts of our stewardship! I will be brief as I have a whole book to tell my story. As chief economic adviser, I had advised that our banking system could not support the private sector-led economy envisioned under NEEDS. When I assumed office at CBN, I inherited 89 rickety, mostly family banks (all of which put together were not up to the size of number four bank in South Africa). Many were insolvent, with depositors’ money trapped, and 20 more about to collapse. To get a credit of $300 million probably required all the banks to syndicate it. For me, there was a national emergency. I drafted a 13-point reform agenda, discussed and agreed all the specifics with the President, and his VP; as well as my management team at the CBN, and we swung into action. President Obasanjo promised 100% support and actually delivered 1000%— which was decisive. I apologize to you Madam because I did not brief or inform you about it. We just wanted to keep it confidential given the sensitivity of the announcement. It is on record that you never supported it.

It was both a revolution and a war and most people thought it was “impossible”, but thank God we succeeded. For the first time in Nigeria’s history a policy of that magnitude was announced and deadline kept with precision. We were courageous to revoke the licenses of 14 banks, including those of my friends, in one day. The FT-Banker concluded that the scale, precision, and cost of the transformation were unprecedented in the world. Before then, Malaysia had the least cost of banking consolidation at 5% of Malaysian GDP. It did not cost Nigerian taxpayers one penny. Twenty-five new, stronger banks emerged but the powerful idea behind consolidation ignited something even more powerful—‘the race to the top’. Banks raised more capital, and even banks like First Bank, Zenith, GTB, etc that did not merge with others went on capital raising several times. The consequence was higher levels of capitalization and within two years, 14 Nigerian banks were in the top 1000 banks in the world and two in the top 300 (no Nigerian bank was in the top 1000 before I came). Even after I left office, still 9 banks were in the top 1000. Our vision was to have a Nigerian bank in the top 100 banks within 10 years. As I see the new Access bank; Zenith, GTB, Fidelity, Diamond, UBA, FBN, FCMB, Skye, Stanbic IBTC, Union, Ecobank, etc, I cannot but feel that we have taken giant steps forward.

Deposits and credit soared (from barely N1.2 trillion to over N7 trillion); new technologies (ATM and e-banking) boomed, and banks had 57,000 new jobs; mega businesses emerged (ask any major operator in the Nigerian economy their experience with banking and credit before and after Soludo —the Dangotes, Arik, MM2, oil and gas operators; etc); capital market boomed and dominated by the banking sector. It was a new dawn for Nigerian private sector. I have heard Dangote twice say that he would not be near as big as he is today without the banking consolidation. Many other stakeholders still say it today. FDI and portfolio inflows flooded into Nigeria. The world celebrated, and one single transformative idea has changed the face of the private sector and economy forever. Banks became Nigeria’s first transnational corporations with about 37 branches outside of Nigeria.

My bank is on the list(GTB) grin grin grin. Thank GOD for GEJ economy transformations cheesy cheesy cheesy. GEJ till 2019!!!
What is GEJ's policy that helped the banks? Another case of GEJ supporter taking credit of past presidents success. Didn't you read Soludo's article. If anybody is to take credit then its OBJ yet again under whom the banking consolidation policy was initiated and hatched.
PoliticsRe: Washington Times: Goodluck Jonathan’s Last Fight? by gists:
GEJ is a gonner. He squandered his opportunity and the enormous goodwill he enjoyed in 2011 - especially in south west which happens to be the 2nd largest voting block in the country. Whatever the outcome of the military onslaught against boko haram, it will surely count against GEJ. The way I see it, there are only two possible outcome:

1: The military fail to effectively defuse boko haram. This will confirm the skepticism of Nigerians wondering how the military can tame boko haram in six weeks what they have not been able to do in six years. This will finally confirm that the GEJ administration is either not competent or at least not sincere about ending boko haram and in fact may be complicit -especially giving the fact that no high profile arrest of sponsors have been made after 5 years. War is an expensive venture and BH definitely has some big money bags as financiers. The DSS and other intelligence operatives in the country (all under the presidency) have not been able to pin any of the sponsors, but the DSS was super quick to detect the Hacking video tutorials which the APC was allegedly planning to use to hack into INEC database.

2: The military succeeds in checkmating boko haram. If this happen, it then mean that this administration deliberately left boko haram to kill tens of thousands of Nigerians for the past 5 years! It means the Nigerian army has the capacity and resources (both human and material) to eliminate boko haram in six weeks yet the terrorists were left to go on killing spree for 5 years unchecked -deliberately!
All the excuses put forward will amount to mere smoke screen deliberately put forward to justify the lack of decisive action against the terrorist group. Excuses like "the Nigerian Army is not trained to tackle insurgency", "the army is not well equipped compared to boko haram sophisticated hardwares" will all fall flat because the same Nigerian army that couldn't defeat BH for the past 5 years as a result of all these silly excuses are now able to perform the "miracle" in 6 weeks.

Now I know some people will say the NA is able to do it in 6 weeks because of the support from other countries. But how do we explain several reports (both confirmed and unconfirmed) that the civilian JTF had on a number of occasions repelled BH attacks (without the support of other countries) while the Nigerian army fled?

The way I see it is that its a lose-lose situation for GEJ. I am sure APC is just using this "cool-off" time to put some facts together to pounce on the opportunity presented by whatever the outcome is.

hehehehehehe
Traffic gridlock is described as unusual in Lagos mainland.
Thank God some of us know Lagos and what the level of traffic gridlocks experienced on a daily basis.
To suggest that Lagos mainland was locked down due to show of support from riders is just laughable.

Really shameful.

@MissEse, did you read this part?

Gerardcole:
“For this year, the Vice President of America was there, the Secretary of State, John Kerry was there, the Chancellor of Federal Republic of Germany was there, President of Ukraine was there and many others.

“I was there with Koffie Annan, our side was to talk about peace and security in Africa, I was to handle the African perspective while Koffie Annan was to look at it from the global perspective.
OBJ is still very much relevant - both on local and int'l issues. Now imagine GEJ loses, do you think the int'l community will look his way when African issues are being discussed? Amanpour of CNN already described corruption under GEJ as galloping. That tells alot of what the int'l community thinks of him. Do I need to talk about the recent Al jazeera description? Who will invite GEJ to this kind of int'l event whenever he leaves office?

China is to build a railway line between Nigeria's two main commercial cities, Lagos and Kano.
An $8bn contract was signed by the deputy transport minister and the president of the Chinese firm (CCECC).

CCECC President Lin Rongxin said 50,000 Nigerians would work on the 1,315km line which he said was "a design, construct and maintain project".

Nigeria's leader said the five-year north-south line was the first phase in a 20-year modernisation programme.

President Olusegun Obasanjo, who watched the signing, said the second phase of the railway project would include a link between the southern oil city of Port Harcourt and the central city of Jos.

The existing railway along these routes has fallen into disrepair and new tracks are to be built under the deal with China.

China recently granted Nigeria a loan of $2.5bn and much of this is expected to be used in the railway project.

Earlier this year Nigeria repaid a multi-billion dollar debt it owed to the Paris Club, becoming the first African nation to settle with its official lenders.

Nigeria is one of the world's biggest oil exporters, but it is also one of the world's poorest countries, with the majority of the population living on less than $1 per day.

^^^Well in your case it appears you like having the last word just for the heck of it because you've made no point at all!......You're just waffling!!

Now just who exactly did you want removed from office while the audit was on: is it GEJ; the minister of petroleum; the minster of finance; the new head of NNPC who met the issue unfolding on his appointment; just who?

I asked you a question on which audit firm you lot would have been happy with since you say Pricewaterhousecoopers (PWC) are questionable and can't be relied on not to be compromised.....i'm yet to get a response!

On your own question which you say i couldn't answer: you may just as well ask for the entire directors and management of NNPC and the ministry of petroleum to be removed from office because there's no way of knowing who and who is involved! If you had any knowledge of accounting procedures and due process, you'd realize all the auditors need is a knowledge of such procedures and processes in accounting and book-keeping, and then request for the documents involved! PWC didn't inform us of any obstacles placed in their way or any documents missing......unless of course you heard of any, in which case you're free to share such info' with the rest of us!

On your last paragraph: i asked you whether you questioned the appointment of PWC when it was initially made based on the dirt you dug up on them after they presented their findings which weren't to your liking!? Of course i know you can easily go back to past posts of yours and edit them to make it look like you actually did protest at the time; but nonetheless i'm still interested to see it/them so provide a link here.....i don't have the time to be trawling through your past posts for obvious reasons!

In any case, GEJ, the ministry of petroleum, the finance ministry and NNPC have all been vindicated so this argument of anyone being removed or not is just academic! If you have a problem with PWC, you can take it up with the United Nations or whoever else is the international finance watchdog!

Cheers! smiley
Ranting as usual with off-topic explanations. Where in my post did I question the credibility of PWC and where did I dig up any dirt on PWC? You must be mistaking me for someone else. I believe I have made my point clear enough, sadly without any meaningful response from you. Nuf said!
