A news coming from camp claims that Mikel has been spending extra time doing some personal training.

The boys are not happy with their recent performances and are willing to turn things around. Starting with their next match against Iceland. I hope we are lucky this time around.

All you've sad is true bro. Most of them are just happy to be in white man's land. Nofuture plans for development as a player. Nothing.

We are in serious trouble now. Aren't we.

Look at their ideology and mentality. "We are United, we are tough, we fear nothing".

A nation of just 330,000

Why Nigeria...why

Don't we also have a rich history or have we just not learnt anything

This fighting spirit....this doggedness is what is missing from our guys.

No motivation.....no commitment....no fighting spirit. Nothing

Once we are a goal down. That's it. No more hope.

I once asked if we had a team psychologist because it's obvious our guys don't have a winners mentality. The attitude of champions is missing in our team. The desire to win is missing. Mental conditioning is absent. Football is more a game of the mind than of the feet if recent happenings in the world of football is anything to go by.

Im just so unhappy right now..we deserve more in Nigeria
most of our players come from deep poverty background, once they begin to earn some thousand dollars, they feel it's the peak and they relax instead of dreaming bigger, it's also the problem of the Nigerian average youth. I once read about a graduate from unn who said until he came to serve [NYSC in the west, that's when he knew companies like like PWC and KPMG exists. Our minds as Nigerians are so small. Do you know if we even crashed out in the first round, most of these players with the allowances and bonus they will collect, they will see it as huge achievement in 2018. Most of them just wanted to appear in the world cup, nothing more including the nff officials that went on the trip, all the perks they have gotten will be seen as God's favour and blessings in 2018 and hope that 2019 will be come with its own. That is how we think in Nigeria, we don't dream bigger for long lasting enduring success, prosperity and legacy unlike other climes.

Mourinho: Mikel A Good No.6, Bad No.10 For Super Eagles
June 19, 2018 7:08 am

Manchester United manager Jose
Mourinho has joined the Mikel Obi debate.

Mikel has often played an advanced role for the Super Eagles while he played a much deeper role for Chelsea successfully for close to 11 years.

The Nigeria captain, now 31, appeared out of sorts on Saturday playing behind lone striker Odion in the 2-0 defeat to Croatia in their Russia 2018 World Cup opening clash.

Mourinho, who signed a young Mikel for Chelsea in 2006 and converted him from an attacking midfielder to a defensive midfield, has agreed with those calling for the Tianjin TEDA star to be deployed in a deeper role.

On the Russian TV station RT, where he is working as a World Cup pundit, Mourinho said, referring to Mikel: “Nigeria lost a good No.6 to get a bad No.10.”

The Super Eagles, who have failed to advance the two previous times they lost their opening games, face Iceland on Friday needing a win to keep hope alive.

Pinnick: Super Eagles Still Have Hope; Afterall Germany, Argentina, Brazil Didn’t Win Too
June 18, 2018 3:13 pm

President of Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick is confident the Super Eagles can lift themselves up to reach the knockout rounds of the competition despite their 2-0 loss to Croatia in their first match of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

An unfortunate Oghenekaro Etebo own goal and a penalty from Luka Modric gave Croatia all maximum points from the game

“We expected to win against Croatia but it did not happen and the whole team, as well as the Federation, have put that behind us and looking ahead with hope to the next two matches,” Pinnick told the Nigerian Football Federation media department
.
“I have spoken with the Coach and the players and they have confidence that the job can be done. They feel bad to have lost the first match and are determined to go out there and do what they have to do against Iceland on Friday.

“Losing your first match of a major competition is not an automatic exit ticket. Spain lost their first match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup finals and still went ahead to win the tournament.

“We have a young team that can achieve so much with the right attitude and invention, and we must now reach deep down for those qualities when we play Iceland in Volgograd.

“At this tournament, world champions Germany have lost their first match;
Argentina have been held to a draw; 2010 World Cup winners Spain have been held to a draw and; Brazil could not defeat Switzerland. France even struggled before defeating Australia with a late goal. So much is still possible.”

The Super Eagles have since returned to training in Essentuki ahead of Friday’s encounter at the 45,000-capacity Volgograd Arena.

Croatia currently lead Group D with three points following the win while Argentina and Iceland, who played a 1-1 draw, are joint-second with Nigeria bottom of the log.

amaju pinnick should just go and gather more prayer warriors now cos am waiting for him should naija fails to go beyond the first round. I remember his very big mouth in 2014 as an nff member when he was one of those criticizing Keshi and his tactics cos he felt we must go to brazil then with a foreign coach. Now he has the almighty foreign coach and all the money needed for the boys to succeed, He certainly will have no excuse after now, amaju too must go if rohr goes after this world cup, awon oniranu!

Although this could be medicine after death but I do think the team needs a world class psychologicist in times like this. I think we highlighted on this point in our thread world cup 10 pointer championed by Icon4s.
I get the sense that the players are scared out of their minds now after the loss and moreso with the abuse on their social media.
I noticed Leon Balogun deactivated comments on his Instagram page.
The team really needs a psychologist because I forsee fear and lack of self believe creeping into the players. Some will even be to careful to avoid mistake, thereby making lots of mistake as a result. Coupled with the fact the team is inexperienced at this level, could be even a more humiliating performance.

I'm not saying this because I expect the team to win the group but I don't want Nigeria to be embarrassed.
Since the England game, I have been saying that these folks were lacking in confidence but some people her say they are meant to be professionals, stage fright against european teams have been the bane of this present team, doubt if there can be any remedy now

Nothing pained me more than the bolded. With all their star studded team, they played nonsense. We scored for them. They won with that kind of lacklustre performance from stellar players. It felt like cheating
at this stage of the world cup, its all about getting the required points to move to the next round, in afcon 2013 we played rubbish in the first round and started played good football from the quarter finals

Iceland was not ready for any fanciful play with the argentines but to get the required point and they got it, that is how clever teams play at this level. What did even portugal played against spain except the individual brilliance from ronaldo which gave them the need point.

I’m now starting to believe some who say the NFF management take a share of Rohr’s salary, because it has been crickets from them.

Normally, if a native Nigerian coach had the last run of 4/5 poor results, there would be a lot of noise from the Glass House.
Very true, reason the glass house will always prefer foreign coaches, it's racket for them. Bad belle is the major reason we can't have a local coach for the eagles as no sane local coach will have anybody share from his salary. Another major issue NFF had with keshi then and he was owed his salary for months

How Shehu played 90 minutes baffled me. Croatia was there for the taking but Rohr was too scared to make the right calls.
Even an amokachi will not lose to that poor Croatian side. Rohr has himself to blame but this is not the first time a german is ruining our national team. Even a Berti vogts could not take us beyond an afcon quarter final. For me am done with foreign coaches.

They lack good knowledge of our players and we are not realising this

Look at Keshi's starting backline to the 2013 AFCON, Confed Cup and WC. What changed? The only introductions to Keshi's starting line up were Babatunde and Osaze. That team had some tournament experience.

You may chose to ignore it's importance but I tell you it is a factor.
If not for onazi that flopped, both Mikel and onazi would have made the midfield of this present team an experienced one considering your criteria

See, there are always exceptions to certain things. But that tournament experience Iceland gathered from the Euros have helped them through the qualifiers and u saw how they played as a unit today.

I am not saying lack of Tournament experience is the only factor, it is one of the factors. I mean what kind of rubbish foul did Ekong commit there to give away that penalty? Why must he make that kind of error in a WC?
Oga forget tournament experience, na lack of tournament experience make moses and, mikel play rubbish today? Has iwobi not played in the champs league? Was ighalo not setting EPL on fire some seasons back with goals, which experience are you talking about?

Trust me, we took more naturally talented players to Brazil.
the present players are not as bad as we think either, they are equally talented, yes they lack belief but it's down to the coach, is it not the same players like omeruo, onazi, mike, even moses that played under keshi, one thing players coached by keshi normally says is that he made them believed in themselves, even balogun who came into the eagles by keshi still said so on keshi's day of remeberance in an interview

Mikel have never played that position for Nigeria. We can blame the coach all we want but the truth is that our players aren't world cup standard.
Look at the goal return of our starting front 3 for their clubs.
egbon ,we even had substandard players in 2014 and we drew an iran that beat morrocco yesterday and a bosnian team that plays better than this overrated croatian team. was a babatunde world cup standard that troubled a very good bosnian side and gave a delightful pass to musa to score one of the best goals in 2014 against argentina.

How world cup standard are iceland players for christ sake

This is my first comment on this thread, before y'all start the usual excuses, fault finding and easy target to abuse, local coaches and foreign coaches have taken us to the world cup, and they are always abused of being crapband inefficient as soon.as we crash out. Any serious fan of sport and football in nigeria should realize that it is time to declare a state of emergency on our football and sports in general, the fact that we have been depreciating from the 90s till now should show us something is wrong. Nigeria is now having to rely and beg players born with nigerian origin abroad to come play for us.

We use to drop good players before major tounaments but not now. Sport is big business creating unemployment for millions in the west. Frim school you are drafted into football, basketball, cricket, rugby, hockey and all and creating jobs for players, managers, administrators, groundsmen, agents, physios and all. Until we demand same here and make any government realize they can create massive employment from sport and make huge money on tax, our sports wil contrinue to depreciate further.
you are very right bruv
