To think that Rohr will be listening to us . Anyway no harm in u guys trying Noise really? well it has been confirmed that the noise we make here finds it's way somehow to the authorities whether Nff, FIFA and even the English FA of late with the way we keep struggling with them over naija-english born talents. Never under-estimate the online space. Do you know the nff decisions on the way they shuffle players and coaches which affected our previous performances in past world cups were due majorly to noise from the fans? Coaches always feel the pulse of the fans, let rohr try and drop mikel or moses first and see if all that will be done here will just be noise. |

Some lessons so far on our failed world cup attempts from responses so far include
1. Stick to the coach that qualifies you for the world cup cos you you need that strong bond between the coach and the players who have been working tirelessly together. 2. Do not discard half or majority of the players that qualified you for the world cup as it affects team spirit and you end up with players in the world cup who are strange bed fellows. Case in point keshi despite qualifying for the world cup and going to the world cup ended up with players who were not really used to each other. This may be the reason Mikel rejected the inclusion of ramon azeez [though unprofessional of mikel] in the game against France. 3. Go with at least 90% of your players who qualified you for the world cup. case in point USA 94 team. If you must bring in new players, very very few however there seems to be strong cases for the inclusion of Kayode Olanrewaju, Henry Onyekwuru and Sone aluko to the team. They are not strangers to the Eagles as they have been invited before. 4. Nff need to sort out issues of bonus and players welfare on time. I heard before the end of this year, Nff will meet with the players to tell them how much they will earn during the world cup next year. Good one I must say. 5. Quality warm up games for the team, perhaps warm up games against Germany and Yugoslavia brought out the best of Nigeria against Spain in France 98. 6. We must check over confidence from the players, case in point is one of the reasons we lost the Denmark game in 1998 as the players were already thinking about brazil when they haven't finished with Denmark 7. We must check players who tend to be selfish in the game, result against argentina in the 2010 world cup would have been different if the likes of martins were not selfish in their play. Okocha was another culprit in past world cups. Victor Moses need to be checked on this. Players in better position must be given the ball for clinical finishes in front of goal like we saw against zambia with Iwobi's goal. This could decide games. 8. Team selection must be based on those who are hungry for the team success and not those who just want to appear as some big players have failed to turn up on the big occasions, e.g. Yekini of blessed memory and Okocha. 9. Good mix of youthful and experienced players. One of the reasons we failed in the 2002 world cup was the way we discarded experienced players who were still in form and hungry. Thank God Rohr had admitted that it was the mix of young and experienced players that achieved qualification. So those who feel the likes of Mikel, musa, onazi, echiejile even omeruo are not relevant may need to have a rethink. One advantage of the crop of young players we have now like iwobi, iheanacho, ekong and co is that by the next world cup, they will be very experienced players. 10. Updated FIFA rules must be understood by players and coaches to avoid naive situations. Reason we even failed to qualify in 2006 as we knew nothing about head to head rule. This also showed in 1994 11. The technical bench assisting the coach need to have a good balance of competent and experienced hands that will complement the coach technically. e.g. in 2014 world cup the technical team that won the afcon in 2013 was overhauled without coach kehsi's consent which in turn affected the balance of the team from what we saw in afcon earlier. |

Kog45: Godfatherism w continue to exist in Nigeria whether we like it or not, though on a reduce rate now with Rohr in charge but i can still tell u some players are getting invitation through Godfatherism.
If Aluko cannot get invitation after scoring a brace for Nigeria, beg for answer.I watched Oyekwuru against PSG and i said to myself something is wrong somewhere, also watching Kayode against Deportivo i asked again what hell is going on. can we all begin to agree that there are strong cases for the inclusion of Kayode, Oyekwuru and Aluko to the current squad? The good thing is they have all been invited before so they are not strangers to the Eagles, me think they can invited for the game against Algeria. |

PDPGuy: Of course, I’m expecting 95% of the players, who were called up for the last 3 games, to make the World Cup team. That’s just common sense. If Rohr only takes like 10% of the players who played in the qualifiers, I would immediately call for his sack.
At least, 16 or 17 of them (barring injury) will absolutely be part of the mundial. It is the other 6 or 7 spots that are really up for grabs.
If the likes of Onyekuru, Kayode, Aluko or Uzoho continue having fine performances for most of the remainder of the season, it will be difficult for Rohr not to give them a chance to show what they’ve got.
As for Enyeama, if he barely makes the bench for whatever new team he signs for, then Rohr may just have to drop him. However, it will be also a sad story if that happens, because a part of me wants Enyeama to create history as the first Nigerian (or even African?) to have played in 4 world cups. @the bolded, let's be careful here cos that's how we helped yobo to create history for 100 caps and he appreciated us with an own goal against France. We want the Super Eagles to make history as a team instead of making individual players' history. |

We must be thorough and not easily satisfied with what we have. Make sure we are going with the very best we can get our hands on.

That one is not even up for debate. I appreciate your views so far but going forward I think for the first time in a very long while, we seem to be getting it right gradually in the area of players' selection as evident in the current squad right cos am still trying to be convinced on those players outside this current squad that really better so there seem to be an improvement in that direction. At an economic summit around 2015, a question was put forward to the deputy on what mechanism had been put in place for teachers to teach in those schools and the answer was they have training for the teachers, they are motivating them in term of pay bla bla bla talk. I later had a discussion with someone from there and the response was shocking. Instead of sending these guys on training they send their cronies. Also the remuneration is very poor to say the least and those still doing the good work are doing for conscience sake and the mentality of if it's my child, won't I do better. Though this is worth commending but at the same time, it has been proven that it is not a function of good buildings but the quality of the staff strength. oga if structure no dey, una go still complain, make una commend this one first before una talk salary. Humility017: so let us allow uzoho to prove his worth... everyone should be given a chance... what's wrong in testing his prowess wit the Algeria match...and let ezenwa or anyone else man the post in the Argentina's match...
ajiboye will have the Chan to prove his worth too....
let the best be taken for the world cup... there should be no sentiment towards any player just because they played a role in Nigeria's qualification...
anyone else amongst those we clamouring for...could have done that... it's a privilege..after all they were paid match bonus...I remember the likes of ideye who played out his sweat prior the 2014 world cup...later he wasn't picked in the 24 man list... keshi reason was...the need to score goals..
so every players should be know that....the list for the world cup....still fresh and any capable player can get their name in there... uzoho against algeria? no coach will try that, unless the all other goal keepers are injured, alampasu will get his chance first before uzoho, the guy has not even been invited before so who will rush him into that kind of match. my guy don't be emotional, things don't work that way. the young man will get his chance but not against algeria. we have a lot of players that already on the fringes so those fellows will get their chances first before others. |

How many times has Alampasu represented Feirense in the league? Zero. How many invites does he have?
No one is saying Uzoho should be number 1 or that Ezenwa should be replaced. Are they the only ones on the fringes of the team? One of the coaches have already said they are monitoring uzoho, so na by force? If they don't get invited now they will get their chances later, but to say that their invitation will boost our chances in the wc are mere assumptions. We've had high hopes on such players in the past and our hopes were dashed into pieces |

You can not just pick an imaginary % of those who should make it because they were part of the campaign but contributed nothing on the pitch.
There are players on the fringes who can be of more value. Onyekuru, Esiti, Kayode, Uzoho, etc... These players should get their shot to prove themselves. Kayode and onyekuru are already part of this team having been invited recently so who remain?, how many times have uzoho appeared for his club senior side before someone will tell me he should replace ezenwa, na so super eagles cheap? |

tbaba1234: I disagree with 3. 90% is too high... Instead, go with the core of the team that won the ticket. 70-75 percent is good enough as long as the most important players are there.
Rohr's team is fairly new. The USA 94 team took years to grow and we had seen all the players play. We knew what everyone could offer. We knew what Agu, Wilfred and Rufai could offer. We had already seen them several times. Right now, we do not know what an Alampasu or Ajiboye can offer.
There is still question marks over some players in Rohr's set-up especially those on the bench. Nwakeame, Ogu, Alampasu, Agbo, Ebuehi, etc.. Even players like Musa and Omeruo have question marks.
In USA 94, we were coming off the back of a nations cup triumph, the team was settled.. It is not the same here. Have we not be shuffling players before every world cup and end up with woeful results? why continue with what is not working. Where are the players that are truly better than what we have now, yes question marks on some current players but who are the players replacing them? Kids that have just made one or two senior appearances for their clubs? Abeg o. |

Mujtahida: As painful as the loss to South Africa was it taught us a very important building lesson: it taught us how not to build- don't build exclusively with youth. There must be a mix of youth and experience. And we are no longer at the point we were in the building process as at the SA match because since then we have played three very important matches.
This issue of 80-90% of the team is sound reasoning methinks. Yet it is not cast in stone- this is evident. Of the 90% we talking about(and I think they amount to 15-17 players according to projections by many even on this thread) they must be fit and in fine form. 6-7 slots remain open and this is fair for reinforcements and fine performers to make the cut. But to bring in every talented goalscorer, every good DM, every good winger in the name of building a team, won't do it. We will end up having talented individuals without a team. We will go slow on the picking and dropping, build on the momentum we have now and continue building after the WC. @the bolded, you don't even build a team this way in the first place |
Sports › Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Goke7: 3:32pm On Oct 24, 2017 |
Mickael2: I think it is up to the coach. Contrary to what most say, I do not believe that anybody 'deserves' anything, you earn it. Going by this 'player A deserves the slot' theory, Kayode and Tammy/Onuachu should go back to bed because they have done nothing to 'deserve' it.
Now we are still building not the finished article we want yet and one of the features of such a team is the picking and dropping of players. If I say this now people will say we already have a team(and 80-90%) of a squad then if I pinpoint the fact that we lost to South Africa they will come back again and say we are still building, double standards(you are guilty as well ). So I believe we all have to acknowledge that we are still building, as at now any player can be the difference between a groupstage exit and a semifinal berth. Okay let's be honest here, how many new players [better than the present players] can actually break into this team? ten, five, three or how many? |

Mickael2: should I reply or should I just laugh? Here is a guy that wants to collate points and pass on to NFF but you do not even believe the players' ages? The problem isn't the NFF, it's everybody.
Anyways Yobo played the first game of the Afcon and the second. I remember he came in against Ivory Coast and provided a calming influence and also the final so yeah he contributed apart from age, how hungry are these players? pls let's not derail this conservation, if you think you will better in collating the points, then do it. there is already a growing consensus that players like yekini and okocha did not give their very best even at the prime of their careers, so you think those players mentioned earlier will still give their best in another four years? Pls think again, we are just looking for the very best solution to our previous world cup woes, nothing personal here but how we can perform better at the world cup. |

Mickael2: There is nothing I won't hear. These guys are all below 26 and this is their last world cup?! Make I no talk.
I asked you who should be invited ahead of Yobo? Yobo was not the first choice CB, he was the backup and(except you know someone that deserved the spot more than him) he deserved the spot. He played the role to perfection at the Afcon as well. below 26? officially yes but in terms of going forward abeg make tell ourselves the truth, some folks still believe that the very long stay of okocha never allow us reap the full benefits of a wilson oruma like we enjoyed kanu. Yobo made the last world cup out of sentiments to get his 100 caps and we all know this. forget what he was doing at norwich city. It was more about appearance and not performance. no thanks to oboabaona's injury, how many times did keshi play him during afcon? we need players who are hungry to perform and not just to appear. They are two different things. Thank God Yobo is history, was he not also part of the team that flopped in 2002 and 2010? abegi. all the players I mentioned, after this world cup the hunger will no longer be there so the earlier we ship them out the better for us. They have won afcon and made two world cups, so wetin remain! |

Promising Nigerian goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo participated in Arsenal's final workout ahead of Tuesday night's League Cup tie against Norwich City at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal youth-team expert Jeorge Bird has reported that the recently turned 16-year-old schoolboy trained with the Gunners first-teamers on Monday, October 23.
Okonkwo is highly rated by manager Arsene Wenger and had first trained with the main team before the League Cup match against Doncaster Rovers in September.
However, the England youth-teamer is unlikely to get the Frenchman's nod to be in goal against the Canaries tonight, with Matt Macey the most preferred option following the injury sustained by David Ospina.
Okonkwo made his competitive debut for the Arsenal U18s in their 2-0 loss to Leicester City in the U18 Premier League on Saturday.
Hale End Academy products Alex Iwobi and Chuba Akpom are in line to feature against Norwich City.
