Icon4s: Good analysis. In fact top notch.
That singular act of keeping Siasia out contributed to we loosing the game. Westerhof was busy packing up the midfield by introducing Oliha and Mutiu. Just one of them could have been OK. And one of Ikpeba and Siasia could have also been introduced. The Italians set a trap for us and we fell into it. That squad did not have alternative wingers. Aside Finidi and Amuneke who were the other wingers? None! Plus also the team did not have much utility players. The only utility players were Mutiu and Siasia. He had dropped Siasia because of the scuffle and then he was left with Mutiu who he threw in to link up play between the midfield and Yekini. I still don't understand why Westerhof would play Okocha, Oliha and Oliseh at once. One DM, two CM and now playing Mutiu as the AM. That was Westerhoff's worst match with Nigeria aside the 5-1 bashing by Algeria in Algiers 90. please after some days, let's collate all these points under different headings and probably loaded them to nff's social media pages. we can't afford another world cup failure. Ghana has been to the world cup thrice but have a quarter final finish to show for it, Senegal only once and they are quarter finalist and if this present Senegalese team qualify, they have enough quality to do well at the mundial. This is our sixth appearance and we can't just go and make up the numbers. I don't care which group we are, if senegal could do it against a Zindane led France at 2002, then why not Nigeria. |

Mickael2: let me ask you a simple question. Which CB should have been invited in place of Yobo and why my guy it's all in the past, let's not loose sight of the discussion, what lessons can we learn from our past failures, e.g. Be careful with players close to retirement making the world cup list. This is where am afraid with the enyeama thing though am one of his biggest fans. Players getting close to retirement making our world cup list has not paid us at all including your beloved Yobo and the list goes on, rufai and yekini 2002 inclusive. I hope we won't start hearing calls for Obafemi martins and taiye taiwo soon. This world cup should even be the last for players like musa, onazi, mikel, echeijile, omeruo if makes it and even moses if we say we want to improve our football in the long term. |

Some lessons so far on our failed world cup attempts from responses so far include
1. Stick to the coach that qualifies you for the world cup cos you you need that strong bond between the coach and the players who have been working tirelessly together. 2. Do not discard half or majority of the players that qualified you for the world cup as it affects team spirit and you end up with players in the world cup who are strange bed fellows. Case in point keshi despite qualifying for the world cup and going to the world cup ended up with players who were not really used to each other. This may be the reason Mikel rejected the inclusion of ramon azeez in the game against France. 3. Go with at least 90% of your players who qualified you for the world cup. case in point USA 94 team. If you must bring in new players, very very few. 4. Nff need to sort out issues of bonus and players welfare on time. I heard before the end of this year, Nff will meet with the players to tell them how much they will earn during the world cup next year. Good one I must say. 5. Quality warm up games for the team, perhaps warm up games against Germany and Yugoslavia brought out the best of Nigeria against Spain in France 98. |

forgiveness: I want to address the two @bolded
In other national teams, they pick from the best and inform players and not the other way round.
In Europe, as at the time Ikechuckwu Ezenwa was invited to the National team, Enyeama and Dele Aiyenugba were arguably the best but how the former had been overlooked for years is beyond common sense.
Even in the NPFL, is Ikechuckwu Ezenwa the best goalkeeper? I don't think so. How he managed to get the nod over the best in both continents still baffles me.
Therefore, if Dele Aiyenugba is mentioned here, it's very reasonable because he has been consistent in Europe and he's still eligible for the Super Eagles.
Now, to address your the second @bolded.
Soldier come, soldier go barrack remains. There will be a time Mikel Obi services will no longer be needed if he loose form. In this case, if Aluko, Ajagun or any player do well in Europe, they should be given the chance to prove themselves. Ezenwa may not be best keeper in npfl but if he continues to show the kind of confidence he has been showing and does not concede more than one goal in the warm up against Argentina, am sorry he becomes our one choice automatically. Life is all about taking your chances and maximizing them. |

Mickael2: Was Mikel poor in that tournament or not? The question is why did we lose and he was a major reason. For God's sake he was the CMF, the central man in the middle who controls play and he was poor. Simple and short Mikel was poor in the 2010 World Cup.
Yobo had a solid game, I was impressed with his game, he played so well probably because that was his 100th appearance, he scored an OG but that does not mean he was the reason why we lost. 2010 world cup? mikel was not there o, am sure you are referring to 2014 world cup. But for oboabona's injury, yobo had no business in the 2014 world cup, sentiments from Nigerians made him to be selected which is why we will continue to flop at the world cup if we are not cautious. hope you are also aware that moses was even poorer in that world cup than mikel. Even mikel's performance can be contested as the stats in the 2014 world cup even favoured mikel |

Icon4s: If may start, let me state the problem I feel the 94 set had.
1. The coach and the whole crew was inexperienced. They got as far as their experience could carry.
2. The team did not have back-up wingers. It was Amuneke and Finidi standing towers above the rest. Take them out and the Eagles wings were clipped. The Italian technical crew identified Amokachi and Amuneke as two of the key supplier of balls to Yekini and they also scored goals themselves. The other two suppliers were Finidi and Oliseh. They tactically injured Amokachi and Amuneke and Yekini was left stranded.
3. This 3rd point is connected to the first. That team is set up to play attacking football. Just like Arsenal, they don't know how else to play rather than attack. Westerhorf decided to choke up the midfield rather than making at least one like for line substitution for Amuneke or Amokachi. I mean Victor Ikpeba was on the bench. The team became immobile.
4. Oliseh made the wrong choice of trying to disposses Roberto Baggio of the ball rather than a "clear throway". we can still excuse the 94 team due to their inexperience, for a first timer, the Eagles did well. What we should carefully analyze is the failure of the 98, 2002 and 2010 teams. Seeing okocha posting a pic of him and messi claiming two world best made me more angry cos i recently watch the higlights of Nig vs denmark 98 world cup match where okocha was entertaining the world and denmark was almost spelling Nigeria. Okocha with ball most of the time was ballooning most of our chances away. people think okocha was cool but am sorry that player was one of those who was never hungry for a good performance at the world cup. he think only about money first. Reason at a time he started selecting which match to play which cost us a place at the 2006 world cup. |

Icon4s: Goke7 and realpoacher's posts just sparked some thing off my mind.
Can we do an x-ray of reasons for our failures in our last 5 participations?
Best way to solving a problem is actually to get to the root of the problem.
We as fans will not play for the Super Eagles in Russia. We are not part of the coaching crew. But we can make our own contributions by profiling the reasons for our 5 previous failures to go beyond the second round of the world cup.
As I have always said here, do not underestimate the contributions we make here. They go very far. To be honest , some times, I feel Rohr and his crew get some things from here because we have seen things play out severally after we discuss them here. Plus I know a couple of officials visit here. Eg Amuneke's U17 media officer and Siasia's late U23 media officer.
Most of us here know the history of Super Eagles participation and performances better than Rohr. So he may just learn a thing or two from us.
I expect opinions and counter opinions. All the same we can keep the discussion or arguments constructive.
To discuss this issue I need enough elders in the house as we may need to go back in time to address issues even from 1990 when Westerhof took over. The younger generation too can equally contribute as a lot of those old games are available on YouTube.
enomakos, Kog45, forgiveness, tbaba1234, TheGoodJoe, Goldfish80, Michael2, Joseph1013, joebie, komekn, safarigirl, mujtahid, terzurum5, icon79, do4luv14, omanbala1, Chriskel, Chrisoblog, Orkpekyandega, Humility017, elyte89, Dedebanky85, soetanoreoluwa and many others.
It must not be in any order. Discuss any one you followed from 2014 to 1994. Sorry if I can start, number 1 problem: In 1998, 2002, 2010 world cups, we did not go with the coaches who qualified us for the world cups then. It took the Grace of God for keshi to make the last world cup. So our major problem is that we Nigerians, journalists, so called analysts who only play football with their mouths and fans in general always claim to know better than the coach. In 1998, we claim that phillip troussier was not good enough, in 2002, amodu and keshi were not good enough we said, 2010, amodu was not good enough as far we were concerned. if we posted good performances then, our claims would have been justified but the bad performances of the team proved we were wrong in our judgement. Already some folks think rohr is not good enough, if he were black, rohr would have been sacked by now. |

elyte89: One billion like for dis post.do u knw y I don't take most of our unofficial scout serious here is DT,dey re not ROHR,all what dey say on dis forum,is just for dem to make demselves happy and wyle away time
Rohr av made it clear countless times in his interviews of his recent dt he would consider majorly those who were called up against Cameroon and zambia, barring no injuries to dem,
Peeps here, don't realise d importance of team chemistry and bonding, I just laff when some persons here will suggest an ogu to be dropped for ajagun or ezenwa to b dropped for AIYENUGBA and so on
Compiling of list goes beyond " FOOTBALL REASON",for example let us assume A Mikel obi loses form and its obvious,he would never b dropped for An AJAGUN/ALUKO,even if d later scores 100goals for deir teams respectively.
Mikels presence alone in d team goes beyond his performance on d pitch of play, its present in d team also lift d psyche of d young players around,Mikel is d PSEUDO assistant coach of our team. also some persons mite not b too gud eg echiejile, but if u ask me,God forbid,na Only DEATH fit stop echiejile from been on d plane to Russia, not even bad form.he would b rewarded for his commitment and also being a nucleus of d team who worked tirelessly for us to qualify, though he may not b a starter when d tournament starts, but he's going.
Having said DT,Rohr knows 90 percent of his team going to world cup,we shld only expect a lil change from his defence/striking dept of d team my prayer is for rohr not to succumb to those dumb suggestions from journalists especially. Na dem pepper keshi until we started carrying yobo and ameobi to the last world cup. Every player just wants to be in the world cup for attendance but most players are not really hungry for performance. apart from echeijelle, even musa and omeruo probabaly will make the world cup. Experience counts at the global stage. we need those players who were at last world cup one at least in each of the defence, attack and midfield to have a good mix |

Icon4s: Another beating say wetin?
In football there are certain names you see or hear that bring back memories whether good or bad ones.
Like each time English football faithfuls see or hear the name Marodona the next thing that comes to their mind is 'the hand of God' episode.
Each time the Egyptian fans here the name Beloumi the incident that led to the blinding of an Egyptian player comes to their mind.
Each time you see or hear the name Escoba, the Colombian player that got shot by his country men for scoring an own goal in the 1994 WC comes to mind.
Each time you hear the name Rodger Miller, his heroics at Italia 90 quickly comes to mind.
Each time you hear Platini and Tigana, Euro 84 comes to mind.
So na so e be me for Rabah Madjer.
Nigeria really needs to win this Algeria game. We have qualified yes but it is also important we end the race unbeaten. And I think this would be an all time record for any Nigerian team to the world cup. Not like those days when due to unseriousness we will be losing away to teams like Liberia, Sudan, Gabon, Angola, Guinea etc. just kidding bruv, just emphasizing why this game should not really be seen as a mere formality, if Cameroon can still be beating algeria when they are already out of the world cup, why can't we just send signals to the rest of africa that we are back to the top of our game. But if na those small oyinbo boys we dey mention here we wan carry go algeria, well may be rabah madjer go use us shine as e dey do way back. This is why I say we don't have enough time for those childish experiments. am with you on this. We just have to give a very credible performance in that game. |

realpoacher: Please tell them o! It's obvious many of them will make terrible coaches. Imagine changing 60% of your team who qualified you for the world cup. To them every new player is to be played as if SE is a training ground. SMH!
I bet if these guys were to coach Man U, Dortmund, or Chelsea, they will change the whole squad after their loses last weekend.
Imagine fa, everyday change this person, bring this player, I will remove this person and replace him with this person... Bla bla bla... Inexperience, ignorance and short memory in full display.
You all should remember 1998- Peter Rufai, 2002- Opabunmi, Ogbeche, 2014- Uchebo, and Co!
Make una carry una shortsightedness comot from our SE body because whether you like it or not 80-90% of this qualifying squad members will make the world cup.
To be forewarned is to be fore hand!
I rest my case that is why we have not been doing doing well in the world cup since 1998 leaving 1994 as our best performance despite being a new comer. we shuffle our players like garri after we qualify and expect to win the world cup, who does that? the likes of rufai and even yekini of blessed memory had no business with the 1998 world cup as we had a team from the 1996 Olympics that was still in a killer mood. The 2008 olympic team would have fared better at the 2010 world cup in south africa like the 2009 u-20 Ghanaian team who formed the nucleus of the 2010 world team that did well. na sentiments we dey use kill our national team. Team hunger is necessary for world cup glory, look at the costa rica team at the last world cup? how skillful were they but see how they dispatched the italian team. |

Icon4s: Each time I hear that name Rabah Madjer, the first thing that still comes to my mind is that 5-1 thumping of Nigeria by Algeria at Algiers 90 opening game.
I wept uncontrollably. Madger scored 2 goals and gave like 2 assists.
Prior to that game I had never seen Nigeria so beaten and humiliated.
That game till date is still our worst AFCON result and our worst defeat to any African side in modern day football history. so what are you implying? another beating abi? shebi na those small boys una wan carry go Algiers? that's on a lighter note anyway. I will continue to maintain that the algerian match should be seen as a test run and one of our warm up games to the world cup just like the Argentina game that has been planned, we don't have enough time for experiment. The New coach will want to prove his mettle. anything less than a draw is unacceptable, reason we may need to see this match like the Argentina match. |

forgiveness: NFF board members are fighting hard to stop Rohr from inviting Vincent Enyeama to the National team because they perceived Rohr is not disposed in taking Ezenwa to the World Cup.
They even threatened to terminate his appointment if he insist on bringing back Enyeama from retirement.
They don't want any retired Super Eagles players in the world cup except those who participated in the world cup qualifiers. Opening the door for players like Ambrose and Obafemi Martins are exempted because they participated in the world cup.
My point is, if Rohr have is way, Ikechuckwu Ezenwa should kiss the world cup, good bye. This is going by the report I read on newspaper. it will be unfair not to take ezenwa to the world cup except he drops badly in form, the guy stepped in o save our ass against the might of cameroon and zambia, at worst he should be our third choice keeper, if a young home based enyeama could make the world cup in 2002 despite not playing a key role in our qualification then, why not an ezenwa that has played a major role so far. let's stop all these sentiments of who to drop or take to the world cup, as far am concerned, 80-90% of the players who prosecuted the qualifiers especially against cameroon and zambia should be in the world cup squad, they showed character and good team spirit which is needed at a major competition like the world cup. Truth be told, we don't really have far better options than the present squad, we talk as if these new players we are mentioning are playing in best clubs in the world. My fear is that with the way we are going we may end up like we did in the last world cup where we took the likes of uchebo, ameobi, a tired yobo, michael babatunde [only God knows where he is now] to the world cup. The world cup is serious business with players who have big hearts which the current super eagles are showing.Beating three former african champions to the world cup ticket with a match to spare is no mere feat at all. A former and usual super eagles squad would have preferred to play draw in the Zambian match with the way the zambians were aggressive in their play to avoid injuries. We all know this. I beg our journalists and all analysts not to kill the present super eagles current drive and team spirit with unnecessary calls for players inclusion who may ruin our world cup dreams. No player outside this current team can be more hungry than the players in the current squad. Let's not be moved by showmanship. Except here are major injuries in the current squad before I can take any serious call for new players that serious! |

I can see most of the projects having something to do with electricity, but as at the last week of May 2015 (week of handover), Nigeria's power generation crashed to less than 1500mw. From that list I can also see countless mushroom projects which one cant even confirm if they were accomplished or not. I can bet you, if APC decides to publish a similar list of it's so called mushroom achievements, the list will also be as populated; and of course it would be welcomed with the very typical response - 'propaganda'
A second look at that list, I just sighted PH - Owerri road listed as an achievement, Lawd av merci! A road which as at last year was still one of the worst roads in the country is listed as an achievement of GEJ. I can bet you that 90% of those projects on those lists were only awarded but no money released. Payment of debts owed to contractors for the little bit of the work they did is the main thing that has swallowed most of the capital budget of since the current admin took over. Yet someone still comes in 2017 to campaign for 2015 elections. Owing to the fact that this admin has had to finance/continue financing most of those projects mentioned, we can be safe to also list all these prijects again as the achievements of Buhari don't mind the liars, we all knew GEJ was a failure, period, I remembered how reuben abati pasted a picture of a road in Cameroon as part of GEJ's achievements.
