The Ultimate Deliverer - Monday, July 13th . Pastor Chris For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time (1 Timothy 2:5-6). The word "Christ" is the English form of the Greek "Christos", and the Hebrew, "Messiah". Messiah means "the God-man deliverer". The Jews figured out from the prophecy of Moses and other prophets that a messiah was coming, and that He was the one to deliver and bring them the ultimate deliverance. The ultimate deliverance is the deliverance from all evil and all that's human. And only the ultimate deliverer — the Messiah — could do that. In the Garden of Eden, when man committed high treason and lost his rights to the world, he fell, and therefore, all that was human was corrupted and needed to be delivered. No wonder the prophet Jeremiah cried out, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9). So, the Jews knew this, and expected the One who will deliver them from all that's evil and all that's human. They looked forward to the coming of this "God-man" messiah, who was also called "The Anointed One". They were familiar with the anointing of God; they knew that Moses, the Priests, the prophets, David, the king of Israel, and Saul his predecessor were all anointed. So, they weren't just talking about an anointed prophet or king; they were talking about the ultimate deliverer. They called Him the God-man, because all that's good about God, all of His qualities and character would be found in this man. And that ultimate deliverer is Jesus Christ. He's the character, potency, power, and glory of God personified in a man. Halleluiah! Prayer.... Dear Lord Jesus, I know that by your death on the cross, you delivered man from the power and dominion of the adversary, and now, through your glorious resurrection, we've been ushered into the divine life of glory, victory and prosperity. Now, I bask in your anointing, grace, mercy and love, by which I live the ever transcendent life. Amen. Further Study: Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. You clearly are here to argue. PS, thanks for your time. |

vooks:You can Honor your MoG however you wish, do it in reverence of the office he holds, because God asked us to in His word... Where it gets awry, is when the MoG demands such Honor... It becomes worship, and no longer reverence. For example, I can remove my suit jack and place it on the floor for my MoG to step on, probably before getting into his car... Was I wrong? Would it be OK to say the MoG was wrong to have stepped on it? If someone saw what I did, and do no understand why I did what I did, would it be fair to conclude I was worshipping the MoG or that the MoG was unduly pompous? |
And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them (Luke 5:17). Often times, the power of God is synonymously used in Scripture with the presence of God, and the glory of God, but they don't mean exactly the same thing. For example, when Moses was asked of the Lord to talk to the rock, what God wanted was for His glory to be manifested. Moses, however struck the rock. When he did, the power of God was manifested but the glory of God wasn't, and God reprimanded Moses; He said, "Moses, you didn't glorify me before the people" (Numbers 20:11-12). Though the power of God was manifested, and water came out of the rock when Moses struck it, the glory of God wasn't there, because Moses acted in disobedience. Always, God wants us to manifest His power and His glory. The glory is greater than the power because the glory includes, not only the power of God but, the grace and righteousness of God. The glory of God, actually, is the term that encapsulates all of His splendour and His righteousness. God's righteousness is God's glory; He manifests His righteousness in His glory. Therefore, for those who wonder, "Is it possible for the power of God to be manifested, and the presence of God or the glory of God is not manifested?" The answer is yes, because His power is given to us to use. In 1 Corinthians 9:18, the Apostle Paul talked about not wanting to abuse his power in the Gospel. He's referring to his authority in the Gospel, which was backed by the power of God: "What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel." It's therefore possible for someone to misuse the power of God but you can never misuse the glory of God. That's where the difference is. And God always wants us to walk in His glory. It's like walking in the grace of God and not necessarily walking in the righteousness of God. One can walk and partake of His grace and be doing the wrong thing, but God isn't going to be happy with that. He'd reprimand such a fellow, and expect him or her to repent. To walk in God's power and His glory, you have to walk in His grace and in His righteousness as well; they all go together. |

But out of several examples in the Bible of Ruth, Mary Magdalene, abigail, David etc that bowed face to the ground as reverence to Servants of God, I find this striking 1Sa 28:14 And he said unto her, What form is he of? And she said, An old man cometh up; and he is covered with a mantle. And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground, and bowed himself. And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. And be at peace among yourselves (1 Thessalonians 5:12-13). There’re truths in the Word of God for us to discover and apply in our personal lives; otherwise, you’ll never walk in the blessings they bring. One of them is honouring those whom God has set above you, and are responsible for your spiritual growth. Some people, however, because they lack understanding of the scriptures, get offended when we do certain things in the wisdom of God, to honour God’s ministers. For example, when a man of God walks into a place and people stand in honour and reverence, some people blurt, "Why should they all stand up; is he Jesus?" No, He’s not Jesus, but he represents Him. Understand that the respect accorded the minster of God is the reason his words, his message and the blessings that he gives, stay with you. No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 10:40-41, "He that receiveth you receiveth me, and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me. He that receiveth a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he that receiveth a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward." So, be smart to know that when you honour a man of God, you aren’t doing it for a man, but for the Lord. If the people of the world would stand up in honour, when the president of their nation, whom they voted into office, walks in, why then should anyone complain when similar honour is done a man sent by God? That’s resenting the Lord unknowingly. The man of God, unlike the president of any nation, has been given the mandate to strengthen, inspire and edify God’s people in the Word and therefore, deserves greater honour. 1 Timothy 5:17 says, "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine." 1 John 5:1 says, "Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him." If you love Jesus, you’ll love those that He sends. Don’t join scoffers to malign or resent those that God has sent to bless and nurture you in the Word. |

He'll Make Up For Lost Time - Friday, July 10th . Pastor Chris I’ll make up for the years of the locust, the great locust devastation—Locusts savage, locusts deadly, fierce locusts, locusts of doom....(Joel 2:25 MSG). If you ever find yourself in a quagmire, or in some unpleasant situation, don't fret or think that you're helpless. Don't say, "This is my worst time in life!" Christ lives in you, and that's what matters. He's the restorer of wasted years, time, resources, money, energy, etc. He'll make up for lost time. No human being or government may ever be able to give back to you what you've lost, but God can! He's the God that "quickens the dead", that is, gives life to the dead. He can bring back everything, and more! He can restore peace and order back to your life; you need not fret or be dismayed. Mark 4:37-41 tells a story of how the disciples set their sail, and the winds became boisterous and waves billowed into the boat to sink it. They were really in a fix. But Jesus was at the back of the boat, sleeping. Startled at the ravaging storms and billowing waves, the disciples woke Him up and said, "Master, don't you care that we perish?" Jesus woke up and gave the word, "Peace, be still", and there was a great calm. It made no difference how strong the tempest was; what mattered was that the Master was in their boat. Same way, Christ is in you today, and by His Spirit, He'll cause you to be triumphant and laugh your way through life. Stick to the Word; even when you think time isn't in your favour to accomplish certain things, don't push the panic button! Keep your composure; the God who lives in you is the owner of time. He can restore wasted years, months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, seconds, and even wasted moments. He can move you a hundred paces forward, far ahead of your competitors, detractors and adversaries. Halleluiah! Confession... By the power of the Holy Spirit, I'm making progress, far ahead of my competitors, detractors and adversaries. I'm guided by the Holy Spirit, who also has made my life beautiful and made me the testimony of God's righteousness and grace, in Jesus' Name. Amen. Know The Scriptures For Yourself - Thursday, July 9th . Pastor Chris And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified (Acts 20:32). The Apostle Paul wrote some very inspiring, but instructive words to Timothy, a young man who was nurtured in spiritual things from childhood: "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15). Notice the striking thought: the scriptures are able to make you wise! Paul pointed this out to young Timothy. If the scriptures were able to make Timothy wise, they're able to make anyone who imbibes them wise; they'll impart to you the wisdom that's consistent with the salvation of God, not the wisdom of this world. Now, the word "salvation" as used above encompasses everything that God has done for us, and granted us in Christ Jesus. These include healing and health, success, salvation from sin, all-round prosperity - physical, spiritual, material, financial, and mental - a life of righteousness and dominion, etc. As you study and learn God's Word, the wisdom to deal wisely in the affairs of life, and appropriate these and other benefits of salvation into your life, will function in you. If the Holy Scripture is able to make you wise, and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, and instruction in righteousness, won't it be excellent to study it? So, study and know the Scriptures for yourself. 2 Timothy 2:15 says, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth". Study the Word meditatively, and the Holy Spirit will illuminate your spirit with amazing revelations. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness". Through the scriptures, you acquire a peculiar way of life; your spirit is cultured in a certain direction; you develop the mind-set of the righteous. Prayer... Dear Father, I thank you for giving me the Holy Scriptures, for they're able to make me wise unto salvation. As I diligently study and meditate on your Word today, I'm established and seasoned, to correctly analyse, accurately divide, rightly handle, skilfully teach, influence and affect the lives of others with the Word, in Jesus' Name. Amen. Further Study: Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 2 Timothy 2:15 (AMP) Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. Look To Jesus - Wednesday, July 8th . Pastor Chris Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith...(Hebrews 12:2). The Gospel is about what Jesus already did for you and in you. He died a vicarious death for you, and was raised back to life for your justification - now you've been declared righteous. All He's asking of you now is to fix your gaze on these realities in His Word; accept what He's done. Don't look at yourself; look at Him; He's the author and "perfecter" of your faith. If you trust in yourself, you could be overwhelmed by all your perceived shortcomings and inadequacies, but in Him, you've been made perfect. Colossians 2:10 says, "...ye are complete in Him...." You were perfected in Him the moment you were born again. Therefore, see yourself in Him; look to Him, for He's your life, your glory, excellence, wisdom, dominion, righteousness and strength! As you accept these legal realities, they become vitally resultant in your spirit. When the Israelites were tormented by poisonous snakes in the desert, with many of them dying from the snake bites (Numbers 21:6), God commanded Moses to make a brazen serpent, and raise it on a pole. Then He said, "Whoever is bitten and looks at it will live". Moses did exactly that and told the people. Anyone who was bitten by a serpent only had to look at the serpent of brass, and as they did, they lived (Numbers 21:9). Now, that serpent on the pole was symbolic of Christ hanging on the cross. The Bible says, "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:14-15). He's light and life personified. So, keep your focus on Him, and you'll never walk in darkness or death. Look away from every distraction, unto Him! If you've been distracted by sickness, poverty, failure, etc., look away from all of that unto Jesus, and see your prosperity, health, victory, and dominion. The Greek expression for the phrase "looking unto Jesus" in our opening verse actually means, "Looking away unto Jesus". That means take your eyes away from everything else, and set your gaze on Him: don't turn to the left or to the right. See yourself in the light of His Word only. Prayer... Dear Father, thank you for the vicarious death of your Son, Jesus and His glorious resurrection which has ushered me into the divine and glorious life. I recognize and fix my gaze on the finished works of Christ; therefore, I live the transcendent life of glory, in Jesus' Name. Amen. Further Study: Hebrews 12:1-2 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Be Hospitable And Kindhearted - Tuesday, July 7th . Pastor Chris Let love for your fellow believers continue {and} be a fixed practice with you [never let it fail]. Do not forget {or} neglect {or} refuse to extend hospitality to strangers [in the brotherhood—being friendly, cordial, and gracious, sharing the comforts of your home and doing your part generously], for through it some have entertained angels without knowing it (Hebrews 13:1-2 AMP). Being hospitable and kindhearted is an indication of the God-nature in you. Jesus said, "Treat others as you want them to treat you" (Luke 6:31 TLB). Kindness isn't so much what we do for ourselves, but what we do for others. Have a determination to show someone kindness which only God can repay. The Christian life is a life of love freely given us of God. That love makes you think of others and accept them just as they are, even when it seems they don't deserve it. We're even admonished to be loving and kindhearted to strangers. Some people don't treat strangers right. Once they don't care about you, and wouldn't want to help. But the scripture says we shouldn't be forgetful to entertain strangers, for by so doing, some have entertained angels unawares. Several times in scriptures, angels appeared as normal human beings, dressed in regular outfits like everyday people. For example, the Bible says three men appeared to Abraham in Genesis 18:2. One of them was the Lord, while the other two were angels. When the two angels went into Sodom and Gomorrah, the men of those cities saw them as ordinary men because they were just like anybody else. Also, in the New Testament, there were appearances of angels in human form, and today we still have such appearances. Angels have the authority to appear in a glorified form or in a concealed manner, looking like humans. This is why you must be kind to strangers. Don't hesitate to help strangers, and treat them as well as you would if you knew them; but do so without naivety. Confession.. I'm full of love, because the love of God is shed abroad in my heart by the Holy Spirit. I'm propelled and inspired by love always; I'm kindhearted, hospitable, and gracious. I manifest the love of Christ to everyone, guided by the wisdom of God, in Jesus' Name. Amen. Maybe you should visit the thread once more. ![]() Well, that said, you also asserted thus; You dont hack into someone's doctrine and say "YOu doctrine/belief system is wrong",you teach them the WORD and it is now left for them to accept or reject.I was stunned you accused Ola of such... see this thread.. https://www.nairaland.com/2428501/end-time-study-what-rapture#35511590 by annyplenty... You did not apply the above bold to uyourself, yet you accuse another? see your response to him.. This is a futile attempt, and it wont get anyone saved.compare it to what you 'advised" Ola here You dont hack into someone's doctrine and say "YOu doctrine/belief system is wrong",[b]you teach them the WORD and it is now left for them to accept or reject. How about this thread? https://www.nairaland.com/2426889/misconceptions-baptism-gifts-holy-spirit#35483897 see your reply none of this is making sense.in fact, in the whole thread, you did not teach anything.. ![]() Next, this thread by ikemikeobi https://www.nairaland.com/2416311/why-should-proud-catholic#35337047 on why one should be a proud catholic... guess your reply? By reading your post @ OP, i can BOLDLY and SAFELY say that "Catholics are a set of confused and deluded People"i did not see you apply your "advise" to Ola in this and many more threads... You dont hack into someone's doctrine and say "YOu doctrine/belief system is wrong",[b]you teach them the WORD and it is now left for them to accept or reject.or you did not see your reply above as aimed at hacking/condemning/mocking someone else religion or belief system.I can go on and on... The thing is, you just want to seek attention, kinda, you want a 'challenge' with the 'elites'... our elders say "to form craze no dey hard, na the trekking be wahala" I've been here way longer than you, so has Ola, Jo and some other folks...not that i'm saying it's a criteria for soundness in doctrine of Christ, I'm saying we've seen a whole lot here, and quite naturally should ignore you, for the singular fact that your hypocrisy in this thread is of monumental proportions. My last line here is, what have you done with the gospel of Christ since you joined NL? Have you raised even one person, who followed your post enough to say "thank you"? Can you show me any thread of yours that had any significant impact on the general discussions on NL religion section?... i can go on and on, and i am not trying to sound like Ola's lawyer, but Ola is light years ahead of you, not that i always agree with him, but because he helped mold NL religion section to what you see today... show some respect!... if you think it's all about front page, and amassing views, then you must have thought wrong... however, try on your own to get front page materials, or threads thaat can gather great minds to discuss...unti then, ike Paul told Timothy in his first letter chapter four and verse thirteen, i'd urge you too, to give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. God bless you. |

And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven (Luke 10:18). It's unfortunate that some people don't believe there's an adversary called Satan, the devil. Some people don't even want to talk about him; they say, "There's no devil", trying hard to convince themselves in their delusion. Jesus didn't deny the existence of Satan, though He emphasized his defeat and our triumph over him. Satan is real; he's a spirit being. He's not an illusion as some believe; he's a personality; an evil personality. He was an angel, according to the Bible, but he fell from grace and became the devil. God didn't create a devil. He made an angel called Lucifer, son of the morning. However, through pride, he lost his position, was overthrown, and became the devil. So, Satan does exist; the Bible says he moves from one place to another: "And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it" (Job 1:7). Although he has his demons running rampage all over the place, Satan isn't everywhere at the same time; he's not omnipresent, and doesn't know everything. To counter him, the Bible says you're to resist him steadfastly in the faith (1 Peter 5:8-9). That's how you keep him on the run (James 4:7). As long as you operate in faith, Satan cannot withstand you; you're superior to him. When Jesus defeated Satan in hell, you were in Him. In Christ, you defeated Satan and his cohorts of hell. Now, you're seated with Christ in the heavenly realms, far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come (Ephesians 1:21). So, Satan is under your feet. Though he's not an illusion, he's not a factor in your life. |

I got some troubling messages on my whatsapp about the NIV, I could not but wonder at the gullibility of some of us, and how some folks can use the social media to disseminate wrong information. see similar thread below https://www.nairaland.com/2429689/see-why-may-stop-reading#35540783 Well, there are a list of Bible verses in the New Testament that are present in the King James Version (KJV) but absent from some Bible translations completed after the publication of The New Testament in the Original Greek in 1881 and the later Novum Testamentum Graece (first published in 1898 and revised many times since that date). These editions of the Greek text took into account early manuscripts of the New Testament which had not been available to translators before the 19th century, notably those of the Alexandrian text-type . The verses are present in the New King James Version , published in 1979, as well as the New American Standard Bible , though for most verses these translations include footnotes indicating doubts about their authenticity. Most modern textual scholars consider these verses interpolations , or additions by later authors, but exceptions include advocates of the Byzantine or Majority Text and of the Received Text . When a verse is omitted, later ones in the same chapter retain their traditional numbering. Apart from omitted entire verses, there are other omitted words and phrases in some modern translations such as the famous Comma Johanneum. In particular these specific verses you quoted are not in the New International Version (NIV) main text. For some of the verses, there is a possible reasoning for "omission". Note: In the New International Version, those verses are absent from the main text, but have been translated for inclusion in the footnotes(fn). NIV is generally in agreement with the Nestle-Aland editions of the Greek New Testament which relegate such verses to the margin. Update: The NIV2011 no longer has some of the verses that were included in footnotes in the 1984 and previous versions of the NIV. For example Matthew 17:21 KJV: Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting. NIVfn: But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting. NIV2011fn: Some manuscripts include here words similar to Mark 9:29. I think we ought to find out reasons for some things we do not understand, especially in the Bible. Isn't it strange that Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Pastor Kumuiyi, Pastor E. A. Adeboye etc still uses the NIV in their devotionals? We can't claim they were ignorant of the fact some texts were missing (used in footnotes) As many that may have believed the message some of us help spread , for example, shredding their NIV, me thinks we need correct the error of that message. Some people will build an ideology about the NIV, whereas there was no need for it. As for publishers, those guys are a publishing company, and can publish as much books as they like. For example, LWPM publishes the ROR Bible, a KJV Bible... If LWPM suddenly starts publishing x rated books, will you call KJV devilish and blasphemous? Let's be cautious... Not being babies tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Amen Stop helping the devil spread his propaganda. cc Ishilove Lalasticlala |
