@topic First and foremost, this action of the president is nothing but FOOLISH. Why on earth did the slowpoke allow the whole bidding process and eventual acquisition of hosting rights to go on in the first place if he knew that "Nigeria has more priorities"? I strongly sense that there's an ulterior motive behind this sudden ill-advised decision of the federal government, which certainly is not in the faintest interest of the populace. Besides, I believe $300 million is not much at all for a country like Nigeria to spend, considering the benefits that will be realised from this spending. For those shouting that spending $30 million to host a WORLD CUP is a waste of money, I will like us to rationalise our reasoning here. Firstly, we should all bear in mind that sports (soccer particularly) is a unifying force in Nigeria. Secondly, many here clamour for a diversion of the funds to other aspects of the economy like electricity, roads and whatnot, without realising that all these will only be quickly actualised by the hosting of this world cup. Hosting a WORLD cup is one big opportunity which even many well established nations fight for, because they know what benefits such will bring to them, despite the fact that they are already far more developed. Someone cited as an example, the last Olympic games hosted in Beijing, and the many benefits China is currently reaping. These are the kinds of things we're talking about here! Hosting the world cup will not only boost our ego as a nation, but will bring many benefits such as renewal and creation of more infrastructure that we seriously lack, which will even lead to the creation of more jobs; creation of better road networks; great improvement on electricity knowing fully well that we're hosting the rest of the world, attracting more foreign investors, import of foreign currencies, and so on. And it's not like after the world cup, all these things will suddenly disappear. NO! They will still be here, and WE, the citizens will have the largest share of the benefits - benefits that will greatly boost our almost dead economy, because this will even open doors of more and more opportunities. But no, the morons, the criminals ruling us will never think in this direction. Nigeria, I tire for thee! The president should indeed have a serious rethink, as urged by Gov. Fashola. I think this man has said it all: http://www.tundefashola.com/archives/news/2008/10/24/20081024N01.html. Also, I think it's high time we impeached this dull fellow ruling us, and put Fashola who seems to be the most sensible politician in Nigeria at the moment. Shame on Yar'Adua, God Bless Nigeria! |

fead:My friend, the Bible was more specific on that. . . . and what's up with these talks about "judging" and "castigating"? Since when did scrutinizing the claims of MOGs become "touching God's anointed"? Please people, let's put on our thinking caps, and desist from all these blind loyalty, as well as misquoting of scriptures. I think that will do us all a whole lot of good. Thank you. |
I can't go through the whole of this thread now because my time here is limited - I've read just the first 3 pages, and I totally agree with texazzpete, the dude is completely right. If you want to spray money, do so decently (in trays or baskets or anything that will ensure it's not stained or dilapidated), not by stamping the notes on sweaty fore-heads, with some "ushers" or whatever picking it up and sqeezing the note at the same time (due to the volume of notes on the ground), while at the same time, some others are busy trampling on the notes with their dancing shoes. It's simply IMPROPER!!! Besides, it's "GENERAL ABUSE" of the naira (in whatever form - writing on the note, tearing, squeezing, yes, it also applies to the market women, conductors, etc that mishandle it) that has been banned, not just spraying alone. KSA only chose to lament on the spraying part since that's where he realizes most of his cash. There has been a very huge awareness in the last couple of weeks in Nigeria about this new law, and no one will play ignorant when arrested. I'm in total support of the law. The only problem I have with this though, is how the law will be enforced EFFECTIVELY. Already, the police have been empowered to arrest those found guilty, and you and I know what that means in this present-day Nigeria. Talking of polymer notes, even those ones are worse. Spraying polymer notes at parties is worse that spraying paper notes. The polymer notes are NOT durable (case study - our dear N20 note). Once it's squeezed or trampled upon, it can hardly be straightened again, and the once fine note is left completely disfigured. One more thing, what's all these talk about "It's not done in other countries"? What exactly do the proponents of this statement mean? So because others don't do it means it's wrong for us to do so? Oh. . . or is it until some European country enforces the same law that it will only become proper for black nations to do the same thing? Someone should explain things to me please. ![]() |
Ah-ha! ![]() So this is what you were driving at? lol. Okay, we've heard you. You should consider contesting for the next MBGN. I'm sure you'll win. But. . . enough of these threads telling us how beautiful you are / how guys are chasing you about! Even ugly girls are being chased around, so don't make this a big deal!! ![]() ![]() https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-112059.0.html |
And you seriously expect us to tell you why? ![]() Okay, let's go. - Probably because you're more beautiful then they are. - Probably because you're more "endowed" than your girlfriends. ![]() - Probably because . . . By the way, let's see your pic (in full). With that, we may be able to give you a near-accurate reason. |
I don't have the time and patience to go through all that. Do you mind giving me a summary? |
I don't know how to explain to you guys that I had that REAL relationship with Christ. It was really genuine. I still get shivers sometimes when I hear some of the good old worship songs: they remind me of the good old times. I still remember arguing in support of God's existence, I fervently believed that Christianity is a way of life and not a religion. It just happened that my personal experiences and my personality has made me come to the realization (or false realization) that the god portrayed by religions does not exist.
I feel almost exactly the same way. |
imhotep:The question is: Why should evil exist in the first place? |
So that girl on STV is razorr? <snip> Na wa o. Who could ever think that gentle, innocent-looking girl on TV is the same person that spews all manners of lewd posts on this forum? Looks can really be deceptive indeed. |
The problem is that the concept of Salvation is still tied up in some way with those "secondary parts" of the Bible. |
yvskc:Seems you've got a very smart daughter here. Don't force her. Allow her to excercise "God-given freewill". ![]() |
Very interesting thread. But to be honest, I also had my suspicions. The whole story sounded too much like a typical nollywood movie. - Two people were living happily before, something happened along the line, someone then tried to take advantage of that situation to cause conflict between them, in-laws also got in the way, but somehow, the couples managed to scale through, and they're living happily ever after. ![]() First of all, this lady sounded too composed for one who was supposedly going through a trauma (just an obersvation, I may be wrong), especially with the way we were being updated almost everyday with fresh incidences. Secondly, the sister-in-law's portrayal here seems to be very unrealistic, IMO. She suddenly transformed from being the nice, lovely understanding angel, to the wild, vicious devil?? Honestly, I only see this in movies (perhaps, I'm just naive? ).By the way, how come we didn't hear anything else about the guy that supposedly started the whole brouhaha - I mean the guy that delivered the message (the 360degree talk)?? Methinks he is supposed to have been summoned as well, for describing their mother's condition in such an insensitive manner, which eventually created these whole problem. - Moreso, I thought I was the only one that noticed the similarities in the writing styles of the families involved. But anyways, fiction or not, this was really "edutaining". I really don't mean to sound insensitive, as a matter of fact, I sincerely hope I'm wrong in my petty observations. There are lots of lessons to be learnt from here though, especially for those ladies who don't know the right time to get serious (laughing at serious issues - It's just so annoying, though I wouldn't have reacted the way Mr. Shapey did anyway). All the same, I think Wale Adenuga would be interested in this script. (j/k) ![]() Please oo, don't crucify me oo. Freedom of speech. Thank you. ![]() |
Rationally speaking, the only sensible parts of the Bible, IMO, are: - Some parts of Job - The Psalms - The Proverbs - Ecclesiastes - The entire new testament. Am I still considered a Christian if I choose to believe in, and live my life around just these parts of the Bible? ![]() |

4Him:Not an excuse. Focus on the message, not the messenger. 4Him:Bros, please show me one place in the Bible where the apostles used a computer or argued on Nairaland. (See the folly of your logic here?) Besides, can you tell us how Oyedepo has turned the ministry into a business empire (since that seems to be your point)?? 4Him:Does this guy know what Canaanland really is? In it, we've got a church, in it, we've got a school, in it we've got banks, and probably other businesses there. Can you prove that all these are wrong to have together, using the scriptures to back up your point?, since that's what you want to make us believe now. 4Him:This is one of the stupidest things I've ever read from a human being. David please STOP twisting the Bible to support your shaky stance. People died, you claim to sympathise with them but you're still trying to use Bible to show us how their death is "justified"? Really, what kind of a person are you? |
Logical:So true. It's really amazing how the God of the Bible suddenly transformed from being jealous and extremely violent to being a very gentle, loving and caring being; despite having being told in the same Bible that "He changeth not". ![]() |
4Him:What a "smart" way to avoid my points. But you know what? You're such a hypocritical tool! You gladly and vigorously reply arguments from jagunlabi and others like him who don't believe in the Bible. Even more vehemently do you take arguments from Muslims who obviously doubt the veracity of the Bible (an activity you're very well known for on this forum). But what do we have here? Keep deceiving yourself. If you really have any reasonable points here (which you obviously lack), you will overlook my religious views and focus on the points I raised. |
@davidylan I think I have your time now. that is what you get when "churches" end up as business empires - - the den of thieves.I know this is an indirect reference to Matt 21:12-13. Do you really understand why Christ drove those guys away from the temple? It was because they actively traded their goods in the temple, and turned it into a typical market, while disregarding the purpose of, and defiling the temple at the same time with their despicable acts. This was what got Jesus angry, and this is clearly NOT the case with Canaanland. Your comparism is deeply flawed. puhleeese give me a break. They robbed banks . . . is that part of God's house too?olrotimi gave you a very succinct response there, but as usual, you allowed your fanaticism to becloud your sense of reasoning. Do you know Canaanland has a school in it? Do you know students of these schools save their monies in these banks? Do you know these banks help aid transactions involving the school and other activities? Do you know the church is just a part of Canaanland, and not canaanland itself? Obviously, you seem to believe that only tithes and offerings are saved in the banks. Quit displaying your ignorance. simple logic . . . when did banks become part of a church?Simple logic, whoever said the banks are part of the church? Whoever said money changers are in canaanland? You're comparing coconut with pineapple here my friend. It is you who should read your Bible, rather than make void comparisms. This is becoming Bishop worship. Where in the bible did the apostles sit down building business empires to make money? Was it when Paul was being shipwrecked on the way to Jerusalem or when Stephen was being stoned or with Philip being transported to meet the Ethopian eunuch? You seem to believe that the personal experiences and activities of these apostles should also apply to Christians of today, lest they may be deemed not worthy of their calling. Going by this warped logic of yours, you would agree with me that it is a grave sin for Christians to drive cars in today's world as well, afterall, "the apostles never sat down thinking of buying cars". Yes you can pray for security but the fact that the robbery took place in "Canaanland" does not make it any different from bank robberies on Ozumba Mbadiwe. Were you drunk when you made this statement? Armed robbers (criminals) came to rob a place, and you call it "coming for their share"?? So according to you, because the Bishop built a canaanland, that means he is laying up treasures on earth for himself? And by this, he deserves to be robbed? Is this what you're implying? Back to my main point: why is a church now so rich? Why is a bank situated in a church? In the begining it was not so. Christ flogged money changers out of the premises of the temple accusing them of turning a house of prayer into a den of thieves . . . are we not witnessing the same today? Can you, in details, link "what we are witnessing today" with what happened back then in the days of Jesus? I mean, I need you to do a proper exegesis, and tell us how that passage correlates with "that thing" you're "witnessing today". Our churches have become schools, restaurants, banks and miracle houses. Is this what the saviour meant when He said we shld lay NOT for ourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust do corrupt? No, our Churches have NOT become schools, restaurants or banks. Please prove me wrong with well explained examples. I don't need you to link some out-of-thin-air scenarios now, but practical, verifiable examples. And don't just tell me, "look at so-so-so church", I need you to tell me HOW that so-so-so church has become a school, restaurant or bank. Miracle houses? I quite agree with you on that. Regards. |
Considering your stance on this issue, it is you that is saved abi? lol. Yeah, I don't deserve a reply, but you still went on to reply afterall! |
It's very easy to identify davidylan during an argument. I was damn sure it was him right from his second post on this thread. Always going off on tangent, and frantically trying to use scriptures to justify his stance, which, in most cases, are subjective. As evidently displayed, the ever radical "Christian" brother cares less about the victims of the armed robbery attack, but is more concerned (and happy?) about the "business empire" of the Bishop that was robbed (according to david, that serves him right, isn't it?). . . of course, the brother, in his own eyes, is preaching the "message of Christ", hoping to "liberate" the "gullible". Just the same way he was arguing blindly on the RCCG thread. Obviously, he seems to to have a great and incurable antipathy for blooming churches. . . and as usual, he'll try to manipulate some Bible passage to prove himself right. Most annoying of all being his constant reference to Matt 21:12-13, displaying his flawed understanding of the passage. @TayoD, lovely posts. ![]() |
@thesilent1 my take on this is very very simple!!! its just so amazing how we try to confuse ourselves by complicating things so much!!!! LOLReally amusing. I haven't read such bullcrap in a while. You try sha. ![]() |
The robbers were 27 in all. Two persons have been confirmed dead. Lord have mercy. ![]() |
Why are all the "secrets" here all about cheating, cheating and cheating? Is that the only kind of secret you folks can keep? I need something more interesting abegi. ![]() |
McKren:There won't be any heart attack if we lose to Ghana. They're the host, and are actually expected to win. The only heart attack Nigeria would have suffered was if we had not gone past the first round of the tournament, which CIV has graciously helped us prevent. |
uchetobi:BULL crap. So if she nor close her eyes, God no go come abi? Kai, our pastors don long dey deceive us o. lol. ![]() @poster. Stop searching for God. Yes, STOP. If He's truly there, and if He really cares, trust me, He'll come for you. ![]() Just keep living a good life, and have a clean heart and a loving spirit towards people. All shall be well. ![]() |
When is another quiz coming up by the way? Hopefully, I'll get to win some Escalade. |
