True took ooo Most of us are not stupid but so many are hungry in a country that used to flow with milk and honey. The stomach infrastructure will last the poor for another day, another year or four years. Until we realize we are being taken for a ride. We repeat the same mistakes every four years. Politicians celebrate behind your back because their chicanery works every election year. |
I can smell your attitude from a distance as AA or West Indian. You cannot make it anywhere In the West Indies, USA or Africa. Go back to school and learn some manners preferably in one of the historical black colleges. |
Honestly, this is sad. It is a pity that it has come to this stage. The same Igbo that have lived in Western part of Nigeria for ages are no longer welcomed just because their children have taken their hosts for granted. I do not know how this animosity can be resolved but I wish solution would come. Real pity. |
You probably know a little more than you are credited for. So you know that after the war, Obasanjo was the only and first leader to bring Igbo out into limelight with powerful positions, apart from giving them Central Bank and Police (called security risk then). Mind you, Igbo also deny it now. But look at the way you twisted it. It is because Igbo supported him. In the first place, if Yoruba did not support Obasanjo because he did not represent their interest, why would Igbo vote for him? Anything against Yoruba interest? That is the way they supported this same Tinubu when he prevented Yoruba from becoming the Speaker. Igbo would support anyone against Yoruba interest? Haba Madam! I think you should look at the electoral map again. If I am right, because someone brought this up before, Abiola and Obasanjo could only get Anambra votes. Anambra, in the majority, has always stood by Yoruba. But they are minority of the Igbo. It would be ignorant to claim ALL Igbo hate Yoruba just as it would be ignorant to claim ALL Yoruba hate Igbo. So my dear Madam, again point out one time in history when Igbo as in MOST, supported Yoruba interest like Yoruba has always supported Igbo interest. Yoruba children said no more. Enough is enough. You blame them? oilPUSSY: |
How could a pretty reasonable lady give herself such vile name? It only shows your shallow reasoning. You just prove what some Yoruba had against Jonathan by replacing Igbo with Igbo. Obasanjo also replaced Igbo Senate President with Igbo based on Federal character thawted by Tabuwal and Saraki with Tinubu and Igbo support once, then paying Tinubu back, with Saraki and Igbo support again. But remember that the same Obasanjo replaced Yoruba Governor of Central Bank with Igbo. Check it out if you are too young. Youruba supported Zik for Executive PM, out of spite took ceremonial President and gave power to Balewa. Even Ironsi got Youruba support. Fajuyi died to avoid Igbo/Yoruba conflict, Igbo still called him a coward as Soyinka is called today. Madam, change that name. Igbo father's and mothers before you got along with Yoruba, even sent Zik to the West. Zik wanted more, like Igbo want today. Mention one time, Igbo ever supported Yoruba! |
Just hoping we have learned from the past into 2030s. 1. What is the maintenance agreement. Is it going to be provided inside Africa? 2. How many local talents in strategic positions or Africans are going to be trained or have been trained locally and abroad? 3. For how many years to avoid window dressing and the same promises made since colonial days or at Ajaokuta Steel? 4. Hundred of anything is a big deal not to mention jets in air transportation industry. 5. No reasonable industry in a country would make such a large purchase without self reliance in the immediate future. Remember how Virgin Nigeria fell apart over bribes and cut of profit to politicians that never offer any talent in return. |
Olu17, Do you think the Hebrew pay attention or care one bit about Yoruba reorientation into Hebrew or Arabs for that matter. They just see Yoruba and Igbo fighting of who is more Jewish as wannabes because of their success. In the case of the piety you attributed to Hebrew, neither the Africans in Israel or Palestine would agree with you. Not even people like the wife of Tony Blair in Europe and America. Indeed, it is such piety in the face of their attrocities that keep Africans down. Do you know the capital of "organ transplant" market locally known as rituals in Nigeria? Olu317: |
This Reno man, is he an African, Nigerian or the loot wey he dey take support himself for abodo don't turn ime head there. Like we do not have enough problem already with youths waiting for God to pick up their calls for free money. He wan throw stones inside the small gari wey papa and mama dey provide. |
As long as she makes her money legitimately, the rest na banza. Yes there are other ways to spend money but it takes each person different time to get there. There is too much poverty in the land. My only problem is; when are we going to start patronizing locally made goods like Innoson cars as ultimate pride? |
I cannot agree more especially on religiousity. The Osu have since gained upper hand since they were the experimental scholars to test if western education was good. Many used the slight to propel themselves into higher and bigger things in life even marrying outside their communities and doing well. Once their names became prominent, Africans are falling over themselves claiming them as sons and daughters. sassysure: |
This is how history and circumstances change. The Osu belonged to the highest order of religious class in Igbo land just like most communities in the world from Asia to Europe and Africa. Some abused their privileged class and were revolted against. Not different from Catholic order that used to put people to death for heresy and those that went against their teaching and science. The Osu were high class and never lived with common people. This made the revolt and overpowering them easier leading to banishment and ostracization. Suddenly they became untouchables. If the Prostestants wanted to pay the Catholics back with their own coin, you would call Protestants Osu today. Eh, what do I know. |
The way this man died is a shame. If someone like him can be easily hacked to death, what about people like us? Unfortunately, manipulators have seized upon it to turn his death into politics. The family explanation has not helped either. Since when has a man in his position depended on salary or pension to live? That he could not afford panandol or whatever is a bull story. Even people less privileged than him never leave home without money. |
I can understand why the Yoruba are supporting Tinubu. It simply boils down to the devil you know is better than the devil you don't need. This is where we find ourselves in Nigeria. A choice between bad, worse and the worst. People must use their brains. Vote for Buhari at the Federal level and Agbaje in Lagos. As for Atiku and Tinubu entry into United States, Tinubu as a drug Barron is a CIA spy while Atiku is in the process of becoming one. Consider yourself unfortunate for your choice of leaders. |
The reason Nigeria will remain a poverty striken country is because when sensible people speak for the majority, vultures wannabes ridicule and question their intentions. This was a country flowing with honey and wara taken down by gread of a few that flaunt illgotten gains in your faces so that you can imitate their evils ways. Vanity is vanity, it never lasts. It only recruits more lazy youths as dreamers. |
I do not want to incite hatred against those that conquered Africa but we refused to learn that Bible and Koran stories are domination tools as a blueprint for the rest of the world to follow. Any deviation from it is "uncivilized", so African with our huge complex fall in line and model our culture according to theirs. This discussion, fight or argument between Egypt and Hebrew is embarrassing to say the least. It is not about the DNA, the first language, culture and people that come from Africa but the other way round. The atrocities committed against the natives from Americas, Asia and Africa to enforce these have faded in the minds and brains of the victims. No wonder they cry against China for persecuting foreign religions which ironically can never measure up to their lynching and collateral damages still perpetrated as smart bombs today. So what is new about their new elected leaderships voted for by over 80% of their highly religious RAS lot? |
You mean the British or the Beni? I thought the Bini conquered the whole of West Africa abi na Africa self. They also installed Ooni and Oba of Lagos. Edodefender: |
OPCNAIRALAND:I would have thought the above quote would have streamlined or shape discussions from all sides into focus. |
Olu 17, As usual, thank you very much for all the information you always provide, not only on this topic but over the years. Sometimes I wonder where we disagreed. From the above researched work, it showed some migrants moved out of Africa to Middle East for greener pasture and conquest purpose through a form astrological knowledge and somewhere along the line,t the Yoruba ancestors dominated these lands through their unique revered knowledge and parted again from these people when other competitors had acquired close knowledge of Yorubas. Thus the hostilities arose out of the complex knowledge that these new world order acquired that made them more into adventurism and weapon production, which made Yoruba ancestors left these lands to regrouped but with an everlasting footprintsI am sure you must have heard or read that Oduduwa brought a staff, a crown and some markings on his body to prove that he was returning home. But I also realize that these are mostly oral history which is not enough for many of us. At the same time, I can rely on your scientific reference to come to the same conclusion you did as quoted that Yoruba (Africans) came back home from Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia or Mesopotamia. There were always people in the rainforest. If these are the people Oduduwa met, it does not negate the claim by people like Prof. Abimbola that the world started from Ife. My point is that various locations of Ife to the present location is closer to the origin of man than Egypt or Israel Africans love to cling to. Again, with all respect. |
Well, sometimes reasonable people do agree to disagree respectfully. What is it that disqualified West Africa as part of the old world from being the original birth of Yoruba but new world far away full of hostile people that drove them away; is their original birth place. I would have thought that the Oloko, Aromire and Tokunbo were great adventurers, traders and seamen that explored new world but never forgot their way back home. Didn't Oduduwa present some three proofs to demonstrate that his people were originally from Ife? Olu317: |
Olu17, I have no doubt that you are a well informed scholar. But trying to ram Jewish or Arabic basis by anyone as the descendants of Africans is horrifying. Solid scientific, especially genetic and archeological evidence point to middle of Africa. Unfortunately, you and others are reversing it in your claims despite the fact that most of you are highly informed or educated. I am yet to see an Arab or Jew that formulate as hard as some us do to link their language or base to Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa. What is wrong with us? Olu317: |
I agree with most of what you indicated. But I think scarification, tattoos and tribal marks are also forms of writings those outside the culture or class may not understand. So I think Yoruba and Africans in general use them as prolific writers well before slavery. Even before Europeans know how to read and write. The Abiku you mentioned is a case in point. Olu317: |

There are more people in Nigeria than Hausa Igbo and Yoruba. Why is it so hard to give credit to whom credit is due : the Ikoi and Edgam around Nigeria and Cameroon. Then we can all share it as Africans. Nsibidi is the pride of Africans period. |
https://www.legit.ng/1175406-igbo-tribal-marks-meaning.html [img] Ogbanje mark Some Igbo people believe that their only way to protect kids from being taken away by evils (called ogbanje) is to leave a scar on their bodies. Nki marks Some tribe members add Nki markings to their faces and bodies to show everyone that they are strong and are not afraid of pain. Usually, these signs are green and made with a needle. They do not mean any special status, but many people are proud to add these Igbo markings. READ ALSO: History of Igbo-Ukwu art Ichi scarification If Uri are tribal marks worn by women, Igbo men usually wear Ichi on their faces. These male marks always meant the high social class of their owner. Those Igbo men who have Ichi décor on their face are allowed performing various rituals and give titles to influential tribe members. You should learn about 2 type of Ichi marks: Agbaja – these marks (moon-like circles and semicircles) are preferred by members in Nkanu and Awgwu territories. Ndri – this decoration (sun-like carved lines that go from forehead to male chin and across cheeks) is usually used by people from Awka-Nri territories. Many experts are sure that Ichi scarification has nothing to do with tribal marks. These scars mean privilege to their owner, they are created to outline the special status, high rank, nobility of a man, etc. Getting Ichi scar was painful and meant to test male courage (children and adults were not allowed to make a sound), because the skin was cut out with a knife with no medications given to the tribe member and often such procedures could last for over an hour. It took wounds much time to heal, and the scars stay with their owner until the end of his life. You have learned the main Igbo tribal marks meaning and saw photos of their facial marks and scarification patterns. While many Africans continue tattooing their faces and body these years, such traditions were more common in the past. Modern ‘tattoo’ drawings are mainly used for festivals and are loved by tourists, while scarification slowly becomes an out-of-date ritual. Aura in Yoruba can be closely defined as a star presence, IRAWO E. Roughly it is OWO that is felt but cannot be touched. But then to BOWO is to show respect. |
Biko, tell me when O! This has led to the unprecedented rise in unemployment rate from 6.4% in 2014, to 23.1% in 2018, puting families in pains and out of the street. These figures are not getting any better, unlike what the Buhari administration wants Nigerians to believe. The major opposition party candidate; Atiku Abubakar, has since made his campaign about jobs, jobs and jobs, brandishing plans to liberate the market and fund SMEs, so the private sector can drive the economy. This is highly likely, since the Presidential candidate; Atiku Abubakar and the VP; Peter Obi are proven employers of labor to the tune of over 50,000 employees between them. |

So there was a time unemployment 6.4% in Nigeria? Chineke God, where were you! The APC-led FG has been unable to handle the Nigerian economy properly. This has led to the unprecedented rise in unemployment rate from 6.4% in 2014, to 23.1% in 2018, puting families in pains and out of the street. |
