Jesus is NOT telling us to "hate" in order to be his disciples but the meaning explains itself. Anyone who can afford ALL or MOST of these study aids will do a deeper and better study. It is also a known fact Potiphar being a captain of the bodyguard might be extremely busy to attend to the physical (s.xual) needs of his Mrs Potiphar, hence her insistent and persistent desire to have a piece of Joseph. Furthermore, in the Lord’s grand plan of events, He possibly allowed this kind of temptation to try Joseph, because the Lord is fully aware that Joseph will not yield himself to the licentious desire of Mrs Potiphar. First, I will like us to know that Joseph is a type and shadow of Christ.

A type is a preordained representation wherein certain persons, events, and institutions of the OT WHEREIN A TIMELY REVELATION IS CONCEALED for corresponding persons, events, and institutions of the NT. Types are pictures or object lessons by which God has taught His redemptive plan. They are a shadow of things to come, NOT the very image of those things (Col. 2:17; Heb. 8:5; 10:1). The Mosaic system, for example, was a kind of kindergarten in which God's people were trained in divine things and taught to look forward to the REALITIES of things yet to come.

To demonstrate this types and shadows, just one of the numerous aspect of how Christ fulfilled the type and shadows of Joseph; let's take a look at this:

There are TWO messages in this thread. 1, Joseph as the type and shadow of Christ. 2, Joseph and Potiphar's wife itself as an event. Am not going too deep on Joseph as the type of Christ because Christ already fulfilled that as I have shared above but the event of Potiphar's wife and Joseph and use it to encourage the people of God in what the Spirit of God wants to say to the body of Christ.

Like buzugee said, God ordered the steps of Joseph to the house of Potiphar so that He (God) can manifest his plan in Joseph's life. Why will God do that? There is more to Potiphar and his wife that God had to choose to send Joseph to that particular house and not another place. It is not a co-incidence. God could have sent Joseph to another man's house but the truth revealed is that, this Potiphar's house is where the most "heat of the temptation is hidden" and that is why God chose that house for Joseph. How do I mean?

Potiphar's wife is one of the so called desperate house wives of the Bible desperately in need of se.x and marital benefits because she had being "deprived" of se.x and her marital benefits simply because her husband CANNOT give it to her. One of things the Spirit of God wants me to pass across is that, WHENEVER YOU START TO READ A DESCRIPTION ABOUT A PERSON OR ANYTHING IN THE WORD OF GOD, THERE IS MORE OR HIDDEN TRUTH IN SUCH PERSON OR THING. This is true of the description and details given about Potiphar. The further description is NOT just information, it is the very "KEY" to understanding and unfolding the persistent and insistent of Potiphar's wife to have an affairs with Joseph.

Potiphar name means "devoted to the sun (god)". It was a name connected with the Egyptian (a type of the world) religious system. The Bible went further to say, he was "an OFFICER of Pharoah". The word, "officer" IN THE EGYPTIAN SYSTEM is from the Hebrew word, "c[/b]ariy[b]c or s[/b]ariy[b]s" which means to castrate; an eunuch; valet of female's apartments and thus a minister of state; chamberlain. The term "eunuch" comes from the common custom and practice of placing "castrated" males in certain key government positions to ensure they would be wholly devoted to their king as they served in important positions in a king's court. In the common custom practices, many eunuchs had wives and even harems where they kept many women BUT THEY BORE NO CHILDREN. This explains the NEEDS, EMPTINESS, DESIRE FOR HUMAN SATISFACTION AND FULFILLMENT ON THE PART OF POTIPHAR'S WIFE but to Joseph, it means a test to faithfulness which he must pass the test unto God. So also in fulfilling the type and shadows of Joseph, Christ MUST pass his test and temptation unto God.

And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, [or] to be with her. And it came to pass about this time, that [Joseph] went into the house to do his business; and [there was] none of the men of the house there within. And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out. Gen. 39:10-12.

So we see clearly the deeper reason why the temptation to Joseph was very intense. Should it have been that Potiphar is NOT the type of man we just discovered him to be, I believe the temptation will NOT be so called "day by day" pressure from the wife of Potiphar. Let's pause and ask, Why will a woman be demanding se.x and marital benefits from a slave "day by day" if she at least get it from her husband once of those "day by day"? At least, if she gets it once of those "day by day", her tension will be reduced and emotion fulfilled but it is obvious something is wrong somewhere. We can spread the application of this message into 1001 ways in our lives. Many of us Christians because of NEEDS see corruptions as an "open opportunities" to get what we want in life. Yes, we are in NEED and DARE DESPERATION OF SOMETHING AND WE NEED IT NOW, (so to speak) but how do we look for it or how do we get it? This is just one of the many applications.

The Second truth I believe the Spirit of God wants me to share with God's people is, the need for "Holy Spirit" and "Study Aid" in doing an intensive study of the word of God. I would probably have seen this hidden truth should the Holy Spirit not have shown me and also, if I had not used some help from study aid to reveal the meaning of the name Potiphar and his position as an "officer of Pharaoh". Hence, I encourage us to "study", not just "read" the word with the help of the Holy Spirit and also make use of many study aids to help search deeper or hidden truth of the word of God. The text comes alive when we do that for the "letter kills but the Spirit gives life" 2 Cor. 3:6. Many of us just "read" the word and we don't really get much or anything out of it. The word of God is deeper than just the text we read. That is why one of the greatest expositor of the word of God, Apostle Paul said, "Study" (not just read) to show yourself approved unto God. I have many study aids to suggest to us if we don't mind (at a request though) that had helped me over the years. I strongly believe they will be of great help. God bless y'all.

There are three groups the bible was written to namely: The Israelites. The Gentiles and The Church. (1 Cor. 10:32; Gal. 2:9). One thing we need to understand is that, the law (of Moses) was given to serve as a schoolmaster to train the "Israelites" in the way of obedience to God. They CANNOT fulfill the "whole" law, hence Christ did. The the Gentiles and the Church NEVER had the law and the law was NEVER written to the Gentiles and the Church in the first place. Why are we even trying to keep the law that Christ ALREADY fulfilled. That dispensation of law has past and I, as the body of Christ - the Church wasn't even under the law and was never given the law except the new law of Christ which is the "law of the Spirit" in Christ Jesus.

For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Romans 2:14 kjv

However, you have made some important point in your comment BUT God is my witness, I act as the Spirit of God deals with me. There is something the Spirit of God wants me to use the thread by wisdom to teach and that is, to teach and encourage God's people THE IMPORTANCE OF "HOLY SPIRIT" AND USE OF WORD STUDY AID in studying the word of God. Freely I have received and NEVER will I take Glory for any revelation the Lord revealed to me. Recently, the Spirit of God said to me and I said it in one of the threads here that, THERE IS UNTAPPED HIDDEN TRUTH, REVELATION AND MESSAGES CONCEALED IN THE OLD TESTAMENT OF WHICH THE REALITY AND SUBSTANCE ARE NOW REVEALED IN THE NEW TESTAMENT.

Furthermore, the Spirit of God said to me, "This is the secret by which I revealed to the Apostles of Old especially, Paul. To be able to do deep exposition of the word and unfold the hidden truth of ancient OT as it is fulfilled in the NT is to spend time with me (Holy Spirit) and search out the deep thing using all avenues available to you". Jesus and the Holy Spirit also has MANY NAMES aside being called Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. I can pull many names of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit each. This is where I "think" the confusion is coming from. You might need to explain yourself HOW ALL THE THREE PERSON IN THE GODHEAD INCLUDING THE HOLY SPIRIT BEARS YAHWEH. Many times on this thread, I have made my stand very clear. I DO NOT believe Jesus is god, I believe Jesus is God. I believe in Trinity. I "think" we have hard time here the way some of you are arguing the matter. What Ijawkid is arguing here is Jesus the same as Yahweh, I mean the father? If Jesus is same as Yahweh, then we are NOT talking about Trinity, we are talking about Twonity, Isn't it?

Why are you guys like coming on me. When I made that statement, Ijawkid said he agreed Jesus is divine and God. Hence, I made the statement. What we are saying here is that some people here are saying Jesus is the same person of the Trinity Yahweh. They are saying, Jesus is the same as Yahweh. Besides, I have told you times without number, I believe in Trinity. I believe Jesus is God, The Father is God and the Holy Spirit is God. I have said this times without number even on your own thread in some places in the past. What we are saying here is Is Jesus the same person in the Trinity referred to as the Father? This is what some people are interpreting the Trinity to mean.
