Update.
Took the phone to the nearest repairer and after "reading the fone from his computer" he said the charging CPU and the board is damaged. Later in the day, I removed the back cover and placed it under the sun for long time.
Now if I try switching it on, it vibrates shows the "MI" logo then shows charge battery symbol before it goes off.
when I plugged it in to charge and try booting it, it does the above process but now it loops it continuously no matter how long I leave it on charge.

I tried Fast booting but still no luck.

the phone is currently chilling in a bag of rice.

is there any remedies?
can the phone be salvaged?

Sorry ooo, but many of these so called repairers are either ignorant or deliberately misinforming people for the purpose of extortion! Imagine ' reading the phone with computer and saying board is damaged', that's hilarious. Well, leave it further to dry for some hours with the back still opened, then charge for like an hour. If you try to put it on and it still bootloops, remove the back cover, then remove the power switch that connects the battery to the phone, put it back and turn on, you can use YouTube as a guide.

I've done that severally, Infact it consumes more power on 2G than 4G and 3G. The battery stats remain normal as its always the screen that takes bunch of the battery while network falls around 3percent max. Advice please oooooooo

Try upload your battery stats, the one with the usage graph.
