Though the Full-Stack track, is it the one they partnered with Udacity?
so does it mean I can use VI or emacs to learn Linux programming on a windows operating system? I'm already downloading the books that you recommended, I'll start reading them later tonight.
(2) Yes, it's the full stack track that they partnered with Udacity.

Yes I know personally a lot of people who recently finished the 8 Weeks Virtual Assistance Program but not the 12 Months Software Engineering one which I am doing. Every one who finishes any of the ALX program gets added to the Room. Besides the Skills acquired The Room in my own opinion is the main thing one should aspire to enter
thanks, everyone keep saying that the program is too fast paced, how have you been surviving it?

KrazyDave16:
Currently in it (last month intake), I must say it's a bit fast-paced, what with the way the tasks are being rushed(?) and what not.
But still, if you're gonna survive, you'd need to be able to google up solutions to problems, ask questions to your peers and the community whenever you're stuck.

Tasks are given daily with a 24hr deadline but they don't"expire".
What happens is the score are reduced (full marks first 24hrs, 65% score if tasks are not completed, 50% if you enter the second deadline which is 48hrs after the task was launched).

There are days where you get no tasks but will be encouraged to join your peers for study sessions (I personally use these days to cover concepts I copy-pasted without understanding or rest my head as the ones I've joined, nobody knew what they did during the week).

Since you're starting, I'd advise you get yourself some books/documentations to read or you'd feel like the resources aren't enough (they aren't) and get this feeling that it's not beginners friendly.
Here are some books I used to help myself;

1. An introduction to GCC by Brian Gough.
That's for the C compiler, you'd learn to use the commands to compile your code. You'd also need to look up GDB (that's the debugger)

2. The C programming language 2nd edition. Book is old, only reason I'm suggesting it is because some blocks of code will fail if you try compiling em, should help somewhat in your googling skills while debugging.
OR
If you're not in the mood for that, get C in a nutshell and/or practical C programming (both are O'Reiley books)

3. For bash, read BASH guide for beginners by Machtelt Garrels.
It's beginners friendly and has examples. Best way you learn is to practice with the codes.

4. Linux... go with The Linux Command Line A complete Introduction by William Shotts.
Beginners friendly and it has a guide to using Vi editor.

With that being said, I'd advise you to practice instead of waiting for a task to drop, join an active community either on WhatsApp or Slack and see if you can get either Emacs or Vi on your local machine and practice with it.
thanks for the explanation, please what's the meaning of vi?

NB: I was accepted into the full stack developer program not the software engineering program.

PoliticsNigerian Military Conniving With Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen Terrorizing Eastern Ni by greenermodels(op):
*Nigerian Military conniving with Jihadist Fulani herdsmen terrorizing Eastern Nigeria — Intersociety*

The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has accused the Nigerian military, especially the army, of compromising its neutrality by working with Jihadist Fulani herdsmen to terrorize the Eastern part of the country and Benue state.

Intersociety made this known in a statement on Friday September 2, 2022, in Onitsha, Eastern Nigeria which was signed by its Principal Officers; Board Chair, Emeka Umeagbalasi; Head, Civil Liberties and Rule of Law, Obianuju Joy Igboeli; and Head, Campaign and Publicity, Chidinma Udegbunam, adding that not only were military operations in these areas “deceitful” but such deployments were coded with military protected mass movements of Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen into strategic Eastern forests, bushes and farmlands.

Part of the statement reads: “Strong accusations by Intersociety abound against the Nigerian Military concerning the above. Since 2016, Intersociety had remained firmly consistent in strongly accusing the Nigerian Military, especially the Nigerian Army, of heavily compromising its neutrality and non-partisanship doctrine by being remotely behind the Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen terrorism in the East and Benue State.

“Intersociety had embarked on series of field trips in the South-East and the South-South following the Nigerian Military’s camouflaged military operations in the two regions, partly code-named ‘Operation Python Dance.’ We had followed the patterns and trends of troops’ deployments during the deceitful military exercises and found out that such deployments were coded with military protected mass movements of Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen into strategic Eastern forests, bushes and farmlands.

“These were to the extent that new military and police checkpoints were created to protect the Jihadists in their new settlements, in addition to settling them near existing military and Police formations and in the end, it was found that “out of every five military roadblocks or formations, camouflaged herders and their herds of cattle are found or sighted nearby. The military protected Jihadists invasion was also fueled by a 2015 alleged Nigerian Military forest/bush mapping exercise across the country as well as the introduction of the Nigerian Army/Military Ranching policy.

The group also alleged that some state governors were instrumental to the invasion and terrorism in the east.

“Emergence of stooges or surrogates as Governors in some States also aided their invasion and terrorism in Eastern Nigeria till date. Intersociety had identified no fewer than 700 bush/forest/farmland locations in the East, Benue and Kogi States as ‘newly occupied areas by Jihadist Fulani Herdsmen’. In a 2020 statement, a former DIG in charge of Intelligence also corroborated our report to the effect that: “the intelligence report at his disposal showed that AK-47 armed Fulani Herdsmen have occupied 336 locations in the South-East alone,” the statement added.

AgricultureRe: About Shaye Elliott, The Founder Of The Elliott Homestead by greenermodels: 3:39pm On Sep 02, 2022
atnerjennac24:
The Elliott Homestead is a business by Shaye Elliott, who lives on two acres of land in Washington State. On this land, they raise dairy cows, a flock of hens, sheep, ducks, geese, and a variety of produce in their organic gardens.

Who is Shaye Elliott?

Shaye is a 32-year-old woman who lives with her husband and 4 children in a three-bedroom house which she and her husband renovated themselves. She refers to this house as her homestead. Shaye is a famer, wife, blogger, mother and a home cook. Elliot along with her husband farm to provide her family with homegrown food and learn the ways of the land.

She prefers this back to the basics movement not because she grew up farming (which she didn’t) but because she believes modern tech has stripped purpose from our lives. For 8 years, she has been rejecting modern conveniences. She churns buttes, treats illnesses with hens, and stocks larder before winter.

On her land, she doesn’t just grow food but celebrates flavors and moments of life. From reading books to children, milking the cows to pulling a weed, each day is a busy day and visitors are welcome to visit the farm.

Shaye also hosts a podcast by the name “homemaker chic” where she throws light on the art of homemaking. Apart from Shaye, there is another cohost, Angela reed from Parisienne Farmgirl.

How Did It Start?

A few years ago, Shaye felt trapped in her day job. She and her partner packed up and left the city to live on a homestead in Washington. She has blogged about her experience since 2020 and has built up the following of daydreamers and homesteaders like yourself.
Her book “welcome to the farm” is written for first-time farmers.

Shaye has found a great deal of success by sharing her life through videos, recipes, blogs, and how-to guides. If you are fed up with your 9 am to 5 pm job and you want to escape modern life, start your farm and grow your own food, you definitely need to follow her.

The surprising fact is that Elliot didn’t know much about farming and nor did her husband. They learned everything from the first-hand experience.

How Did She Manage to Expand Her Farm?

Shaye published her first cookbook back in 2013 and ended up selling more copies than she expected. But this revenue, she expanded her farm and bought diary crows, chicken and planted a few annuals.

Other books written by Shaye include from scratch, family table, seasons at the farm, and an eBook called bake better bread at home.

She Shaye started her blog, she inspired many people to purchase at least dozens of baby chicks. Homesteading is a way to reconnect with nature.

Some people might think that Instagramming about her life and escape from technology may seem incongruous but Shaye believes that social media has played a significant role in providing her advice and giving the moral support she needed. Going online connects her with more people who are homesteads like herself.

Conclusion

Life on the farm is not clean and glamorous but it is fun. You remain close to nature, organic food, and of course your family. It’s an escape from the modern hustle-bustle which has got most of us overwhelmed these days.

PoliticsHameed Ali: NNPC Can’t Justify ₦6.34 Trillion Petrol Petrol Subsidy by greenermodels(op): 4:45am On Sep 02, 2022
*NNPC can’t justify N6.34tn petrol subsidy – Customs*

…Reps differ over N11tn deficit in proposed 2023 budget

The Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali (retd.), has stated that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (formerly Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) cannot justify the volume of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) being consumed in the country daily to warrant the over N6.34tn subsidy payment on the commodity annually.

Ali, in his presentation to the House of Representatives’ Committee on Finance at the continued hearing on the proposed 2023-2025 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper in Abuja on Thursday, argued that the NNPC cannot scientifically prove the 98 million litres/day consumption it was claiming, alleging that the nation’s oil company was supplying an excess of 38 million litres of PMS daily.

The committee had asked Ali about the like deficit of between N11tn and 12tn in the 2023 budget as proposed in the 2023-2025 MTEF/FSP.

The Federal Government is proposing a budget with estimates totalling N19.76tn, while the deficit will hover between N11.30tn and N12.41tn in the 2023 fiscal year.  The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, who appeared before the committee earlier on Monday, had decried that the government might be unable to provide for treasury-funded capital projects next year, especially due to dwindling revenue and annual payment of N6.34tn subsidy on petrol.

However, the NCS boss faulted the NNPC on its subsidy claims, saying, “I remember that last year we spoke about this. Unfortunately, this year, we are talking about subsidy again. The over N11tn we are going to take as debt, more than half of it is going for subsidy. The issue is not about smuggling of petroleum products. I have always argue this with NNPC.”

Ali added, “If we are consuming 60 million litres of PMS per day, by their own computation, why would you allow the release of 98 million litres per day? If you know this is our consumption, why would you allow that release? Scientifically, you cannot tell me that if I fill my tank today, tomorrow, I will fill the same tank with the same quantity of fuel. If I am operating a fuel station today and I go to Minna depot, lift petrol and take it to Kaduna, I may get to Kaduna in the evening and offload that fuel. There is no way I would have sold off that petrol immediately to warrant another load. So, how did you get to 60 million litre per day? That is my problem.

The issue of smuggling: if you release 98 million litre in actual and 60 million litres is used, the balance should be 38 million litres. How many trucks will carry 38 million litres every day? Which road are they following and where are they carrying this thing to?”

The committee’s Deputy Chairman, Saidu Abdullahi, who presided over the hearing, decried that funds under the subsidy scheme, which should have been used to finance capital projects, were being diverted into private pockets.

Meanwhile, the Customs CG told the committee that the Service would meet its revenue projection of N2.272tn for 2022, N2.873tn for 2023, N3.540tn for 2024 and N3.752tn for 2025.

The lawmakers queried the sum of N6.7bn spent on legal matters out of N7.5 billion approved in the 2021 Appropriation Act, with another N9.2bn proposed in the 2023 budget.

Ali, however, explained that the NCS wrote to the Presidency seeking virement of N4bn to cater for pending legal debts, adding that inadequate funds might cause the Service to pay as much as N20bn for a suit of N3bn for default.

The lawmakers also tasked the CG of the NCS with ensuring remittances of 80 per cent of the operating surplus to the government coffers as prescribed by the Finance Act, adding that the Customs should propose amendment to the extant law with a view to addressing whatever concerns might arise

AgricultureA Thread For Homesteaders by greenermodels(op): 4:12pm On Sep 01, 2022
Homesteading means moving to less populated places where one can acquire land to cultivate crops, raise animals and carry out small/medium scale production on relatively small plots of land measuring from a few plots to a few acres. It involves leaving the urban lifestyle with it's stress, pollution, crime etc to move to a more serene environment where one can live directly from the land and other economic activities. Do we have people who are homesteaders or wish to be homesteaders in Nigeria? This thread is for us.

Good evening colleagues.
I want you guys opinion.
I recently got a State government teaching job and I was told the start up salary is 60k plus.

I work in a private school where I earn same salary range but I make 150k minimum from home lessons.

My challenge now is which of them I should to continue with and should I leave the school, the lessons will stop because parents always prefer teachers from the school.
Have you considered that the government job might have you been posted away from your current location. Honestly, I would follow the money by ignoring the government job. You can enrol yourself in a contributory pension scheme from your lesson earnings if you're worried about that. Just ask how much the government and teachers contribute every month and do the same for yourself.
