PoliticsRe: Make No Deal With Us, David-west Warns Fg by HamidO1(m): 3:54pm On May 19, 2011
Al-Qaeda: Make no deal with US, David-West warns FG

From HENRY CHUKWURAH, Port Harcourt

Friday, May 13, 2011

The Federal Government has been warned to jettison any plan to sign a security pact with the United States of America to enable the latter establish a military base in Nigeria for hunting down Al Quaeda elements in the country.
This is because of the inherent dangers of such arrangement to national security and the country’s sovereignty.

Former petroleum minister, Professor Tam David-West said in an interview with Daily Sun that Nigeria would become vulnerable to subversion if the Nigerian government decided to go ahead with the arrangement.
“I will, with all seriousness and patriotism, caution Nigerian government not to unreservedly open their doors to American Intelligence to use Nigeria as a base to track down alleged Al Quaeda elements in Nigeria.
“I am saying this for some reasons. About 10 years ago, America wanted to open FBI station in Nigeria. I wrote against it and opposed it and the government never went ahead to sign the pact.

“Going down memory lane, soon after our independence in 1960, Britain wanted to sign an Anglo-Nigeria Defence Pact. The students of University of Ibadan marched to the parliament and stopped the Bill because it was dangerous and Balewa’s government never signed the Bill.

“The reason is simple. When a Third World Country goes to sign so-called Defence Pact or set up a so-called Intelligence Base within the country, they necessarily compromise their sovereignty in the interest of the super power and it is because they can use the same so-called Intelligence to subvert any government within the country. So, the Federal Government should be very careful in entering any pact with the United States.”
Recalling that the Nigerian government committed a similar security goof a few years ago when America minded the security of the nation’s airports, Prof. David-West said any government that could not guarantee its country’s security was useless.

“A few years ago, airports security was given to America. What kind of sovereign state are we? A government that cannot guarantee security in its country, both internal and external security, is totally useless and should be got rid of. This is because our sovereignty depends on managing our own affairs by ourselves.”
The professor emeritus recalled that after Algeria became independent, France used the same trick to establish a military base, which it later used to subvert the Algerian government.

Consequently, he warned that, “Nigeria should never go into any security pact with America because it will expose us to international attack.”

http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2011/may/13/national-13-05-2011-010.html
America should learn  to respect peoples' sovereignty. The idea of establishing a military base in Nigeria is just to protect their own interest while leaving Nigerians exposed to terrorist attacks since it will be viewed as an ally of the United State. America can be selfish atimes.

Roam about aimlessly stealing anything they come across, it's that bad. Most of them are clueless, Fashola is the man.

DrummaBoy:
Beaf is here criticizing Bankole. Is that not the trade mark of the PDP. Beaf, how much did GEJ spend on his campaign?
Only God knows, that is beyond Beaf (Enemy of State) my brother. I'm sure Bankole contributed some of the stolen money to the campaign.
