Rep. Nkiruka Onyejeocha (APC-Abia), on Thursday, said she is still in the race for the office of the Speaker of the incoming 9th House of Representatives.


Onyejeocha, Chairman, House Committee on Aviation, spoke on Thursday in Abuja, while reacting to reports which claimed that she was stepping down from the race to settle for chief whip.

“Why will I want to bargain for anything less than the office of the speaker? I am a very serious minded person, I do not give into frivolities and will not be a game for anybody.


“I will not use speakership to bargain for anything, it is more comfortable for me to sit down and remain a ranking member than going through the stress.

“I am very much in the race,” NAN quoted her as saying.

Onyejeocha said that she was not worried about the amount of endorsements of other aspirants in the media.


She said as a politician, she was aware that endorsement does not translate to votes.

According to her, there is time those that have endorsed one person or the other can still change their minds, adding that life is about change and people can change their minds on the day of the election.

Onyejeocha said that it was still possible for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider all the agitations and issues put forward to move Nigeria to the next level and change its position on the zoning announced.

Abia-North Senator elect Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu has revealed his over 5000 farm hectare situated in Abia- state, dedicated to Palmoil and Cassava cultivation.
According to the former Governor and Senator (elect) the farm currently employs over 1000 direct and indirect workers. He also revealed that the Cassava plantation reduced the prices of Cassava per ton .

He also speaks on his plans to empower the people through Agriculture.

The Coalition of South-East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has described distribution of 450,000 palm seedlings to youths by a former governor of Abia State and Senator- elect for Abia North senatorial district, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu as the first of its kind and capable of providing employment for beneficiaries and boosting food production. Kalu through the Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) Foundation distributed 450,000 young nursery palms free of charge as part of its empowerment programme.

 

In a statement issued by President-General of COSEYL, Chief Goodluck Ibem and Secretary General, Comrade Kanice Igwe and made available to newsmen in Umuahia, the group “commend His Excellency Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for flagging off 450,000 free palm seedlings program to empower the good of Abia state and  South-East zone in general.”

 

The group was particularly excited that the “agricultural program will boost food production and also provide massive employment for our teeming unemployed youths, men and women.”

 

“This Agricultural program is first of its kind. It will boost the economy of Nigeria. In the next few years, more palm oil will be available for export to other countries which will improve the balance of payment of Nigeria and enhance our foreign earnings.

 

“The bold Agricultural initiative by Dr Kalu will reduce ruralurban migration as more youths who might want to move to the city for white collar jobs will now stay in the village gainfully employed and making ends meet.”

Massive empowerment as Orji Kalu Kalu distributes 450,000 free palm seedling to Abia farmers

The Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation chaired by Senator-elect for Abia North Senatorial District, recently began the distribution of free high yielding Palm Seedlings known as "Tenera" to farmers in the state.

Speaking at the launch of the seedlings at his Igbere country home in Bende Local Government Area, Kalu said that the initiative was his own support to President Muhammadu Buhari’s policy to revolutionise agriculture in Nigeria.

The initiative was designed to encourage Abia farmers to go into palm plantation and other cash crops in order to create wealth which according to Dr. Kalu was better and sustainable in the long run that giving out cash .

The Agricultural empowerment  scheme, it cut across part line. It is also non-partisan.

The only criterion for qualification is proof of ownership of family land, the size of the family land would determine the quantity of seedling to be given to people."

The people expressed joy and happiness and lauded Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu over the initiative.

Dr. Kalu and David Umahi exchanged warm pleasantries all through the event putting aside their political differences.

Speaking from experience, I also had two extra years in that same OAU before I graduated. Trust me the psychological burden is enormous so I understand how he felt . But suicide was never and should never be an option.
Unfortunately, a school like OAU don't have dedicated counsellors who ought to deal with students with extras to put them in the right shape of mind. In fact I know a lecturer who told a student to leave school and hawk because he had an extra.

For me with God and personal conviction I fought it and finally graduated and to God be the glory I got a job even before service with out even writing a CV I also served in a Governors office and was even offered a Government appointment after service together with the one I always had. Today I even recommend my mates who graduated 3 years before me.

So suicide is never the option no matter what.

Former Governor of Abia state and Senator-elect, Abia North Senatorial District, Dr. Orji Kalu has debunked rumours that he (Kalu) has nominated his brother and cousin, Hon. Mascot Kalu and Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu respectively for ministerial appointments.
An online media platform, PUO Reports, had a few days ago published the malicious, fake and misleading information.

In a statement issued by Kalu’s media office on Saturday, the former governor urged the general public to disregard the news, adding that it is the handiwork of mischief makers and political jobbers, who are envious of the growing popularity of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State.

He said: “We condemn in totality the news reported by PUO Reports that the former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu has nominated his brother and cousin, Hon. Mascot Kalu and Dr. Madukwe Ukaegbu respectively for ministerial appointments.

“The fake news being peddled by PUO Reports is another attempt by political jobbers to score cheap political points.

“We advise the management of PUO Reports to apologise to the Senator-elect, Abia North Senatorial District within seven days or otherwise face the wrath of the law for blackmailing Kalu.”

The media office urged members of the APC to be wary of paid agents of the opposition, adding that Kalu will not lose sleep over the antics of failed politicians.
