So this Lagoon man was there? Thank God I did not attend even though I had an invite. Let me see whether i can post the speech here sef, it was sent to my mail
My Stewardship- Eight Years Of Delivering Excellence. Public Policy Lecture, Institute Of Directors Nigeria, Wednesday, May 6, 2015.
THE SPEECH.
Grateful for the platform to speak on this occasion. He pays tribute to the writer of the book, Sam Omatseye , the IOD and Chief Eniola Fadayomi. When I agreed to deliver this lecture, I was not sure of the topic, because in the next 24 hrs I am oblige to render account of my stewardship. In that sense it is possible to argue that today's event would be an over reach. It is possible to argue that in the last 28 occasions I have rendered my stewardship. Instead of pursuing my argument, I consider governance as a public trust and continuing necessity of account. I will speak to the extent of promotion of accountability and the way we have carried on. I have benefited from a team of public officers. If I claim personal credit my Commissioners here will not agree.
Whatever decision that fell short of the standard remains my decision. I hereby issue one or two caveat. Excellence is not static. It would always be appropriate to define Excellence from time to time. In the race for excellence there is no time limit. To begin to speak of 8 years of excellence is self glorification. There were many challenges from assembling a team and even the problem of understanding ourselves and overcoming prejudices. We also had the problem of understanding the civil servants. We also needed resources, which would be the main focus of this Lecture. I learnt that several books would be written. We had 21 million people. It was clear that we had to deliver our electoral promises. We went on a tour of local governments in the state to verify their problems and to identify priorities. This formed the basis of the 2008 Budget. Money was raised by bonds and we have the trust of the economic communities. All the bonds were fully subscribed to. The nature of debt is that it must be paid back. We needed to generate resources in order to pay back our debt. We have cause to believe that we have close to another 4 million non taxpayers who are benefiting from the common pool. I appeal to these people to to in those people who regularly pay tax.
Some of the founding precepts of democracy is rooted in payment of tax. We have explained what we have done with the money. We have raised the IGR from 600, million to over 20-billion a month. This has made the state tax worthy and credible. The government was buying assets that would outlive the tenure of this administration. Can we rebuild the 3rd Mainland bridge now at the same cost it was constructed. We receive 10 billion per month from the federal government. Do we apply the Infrastructure Of the Stomach? The Lagos State team are like miracle workers. Some have argued that we are borrowing, but we need to challenge ourselves. Every time we raise expectations to reach everybody, we must plan for the future. We don't even see some of the people. We have always budgeted more than our earnings and because we are also credit worthy. America owes the world 16 trillion dollars and this is growing. They have bought power, might, and technology with this money. We don't want the debt but we go and invest in America and send our children there. We have a very healthy financial reputation and we must keep it. We have paid the bond taken by my predecessor in office. We have also paid off the first tranche of bonds that we took. We have moved from a state that could only budget only 20 billion to a quarter of a trillion.
Lagos revenue has also not been insulated from the global recession. Our pension scheme is the most robust in the country. We have built institutions like LAWMA, LASPAC, LASTMA, LASTRA, LAMATA, being examples of agencies established to get the Ministries to focus more on formulation of policies while the agencies implement the policies. I therefore say that the agencies have been stronger and actualized the delivery of good services. We have built new roads and refurbished old roads and ensuring proper maintenance of the roads. The Ministry of Transportation has also been very active. The Ministry of Energy has also delivered. The effect is that service delivery is being extracted from the bureaucracy. We have capable hands in charge. I cannot tell the full story.
Our institutions are stronger and the workforce is well motivated. We have elected a new government on the platform of continuity. The best is yet to come. I leave you with the verdict. The memories will remain with me forever. In thank you all for listening to me.

Phones › Re: Buy Infinix Phones To Your Detriment! by hardbody: 5:19pm On May 07, 2015 |
Malazzy: I have always avoided speaking against any product or service knowing full well that a lot of efforts may have been put in, however, I only do that if I can help it. This one?.. I can't help it. It's just too bad, I mean my worst experience with any gadget so far. I want to quickly narrow my claims down to infinix zero x506. This is because I have not used any other infinix product before now but I can swear that this may just be the last of their product I will ever spend my hard earned cash on. I saw the review of the phone online and I quickly loved it. I went straight to purchase one the next day. When I got home, I was browsing with my other phone. I didn't hesitate to check out what the comments about the phone was on nairaland ( this was the biggest mistake of the century as I always check for nairlander's comment on most things before buying them). To my greatest surprise, i saw plenty negative comments about the phone. I didn't bother removing the phone from the box. First thing the following day, I took the phone with me back to the shop I bought it. I practically begged the seller to swap the infinix zero with infinix hot note and he refused. I told him that I don't care about the 5k difference, all I wanted was a change of phone. He just told me that he can't change it even though he was aware that I had not removed the phone from the box. I decided to hold on to my new phone, after all, mine could be different. To cut a long story short, the moment I took it home, charged it to 100% I unplugged immediately. Within some minutes the battery had already gone down to 62%. If you ever used a stop watch, thats exactly the rate at which the battery was discharging! As if that wasn't enough, the data automatically turns itself on. I decided to be leaving the phone on airplane mode to avoid data wastage. I never knew my infinix had big plans..... The moment I turned on the data, WiFi will automatically come on and consequently turn off the data. A minute browsing in my infinix zero x506 is equivalent to "10 WiFi turn offs and 11 data turn ons". It's that pathetic. Guess what? My infinix is not yet through with it's madness. The last of all was that the music player automatically comes on even when I am in the kitchen preparing amala and ewedu. I am not married yet, so the question of whether the music was turned on by my child is out of place. I have suffered all these from a phone I bought on Monday last week. Please i am tired of this phone. I called their carlcare and they said I should bring the phone to their office, my problem now is that I don't want an infinix phone, least of infinix zero x506. If they can swap it for infinix hot note, even if it means giving them some cash I would gladly accept. I think infinix is a no go area for me until these issues are sorted out. What happened to the warranty? I bought three the week it came out, one for my friend, one for my mum, one for my use. It is only my friend's own that developed an issue and she took it to Calcare for a week and got it back after fixing - at no cost to her. I hope you did not buy from a roadside shop......that would amount to being penny wise |

ramdris: This might not be unconnected to our highly corrupt military. Even though it makes little sense to exclude Nigeria from the assistance, am sure the US wanted to avoid a situation where the fund will be sit upon by our so called military heads who has been benefiting illegally without hindrance under GEJ reign. However, anything that will flush BH out completely is welcome. This has nothing to do with the military. US has been critical of Goodluck from the moment he signed off on the anti ga.y law. America is trying to introduce a help through the backdoor knowing that BH success in Nigeria will affect most other African states. Upon their puppet taking over, they will then throw their massive support in favour. They are disappointed that Goodluck was not overwhelmed by BH. Meanwhile shame on US and the Kenyan in the person of Obama |

yibobasher2: I do really like this your comment, maybe if I see more of this kind of comment, I might change my moniker to yiboluver or friendofdyibo . am I a tribal bigot in real life? Absolutely not, am I one on nairaland? Probably yes. The reason for being anti-igbo on nairaland is a discussion for another day. Back to the discussion at hand, you mentioned there are fallacies. Though there are no evidences showing that he promised to do everything you guys are claiming, however, I don't think they are fallacies with reasons . Firstly, bringing back chibok girls is just a matter of time under a leadership of someone concerned with national security. Secondly, starting up a social program where unemployed youth will be given 5k a month from a country like Nigeria is not unachievable. Let's assume that the number of these unemployed is 20 million, that amounts to about 100 billion naira which is equivalent to 625 million dollars. With Nigeria oil production standing at 2.5 million barrels in a day, using oil price of 60 dollars per barrel, that means it will take less than 5 days to generate revenue that will take care of over 10% of the population basic needs. On to your third point, to equate naira to a dollar is probably one of the easiest. Have you forgotten that Soludo came up with the same idea in 2007? All it takes is decimalization and re-denomination of the naira. Obviously there are pros and cons to such action which can be elaborated on if you care. Your last point that he claimed to stabilize oil price, this is an herculean task but it is doable. You need to understand the concept of crude oil pricing in order to get a comprehension of my analysis. Global crude oil pricing is basically influenced by the law of demand and supply. The reason why crude oil price is falling is as a result of more supply than demand. How can Nigeria president stabilize oil price you will ask? Nigeria being the 4th largest oil exporter and the largest sweet oil producer in opec is very influential in oil global market. If Nigeria decide to leave opec for the reason of developing itself through industrialization and no longer exporting its sought after sweet crude, I bet you the global oil price will stabilize in less than a month. But this is a very serious issue that requires a lot of analysis. Hope my points are passed across? Points noted. I hope these work. Shall we take stock after the first 100days in office? Usually facts speak for themselves. Rather than speculate, let us wait till then. Like i have said severally, i wish he achieves all his claims as this will be in the greater interest of Nigerians. I have no personal reason to be antagonistic. So there. |

I'm not surprised at all, they all want this man to fail, and God pass them all All igbos are tribal bigots and uour name is igbo basher. Who is the hypocrite here?. Meanwhile no one is wishing the old man failure we are only rationally analyzing the fallacies he put up just to win an election and we are told he is a man of integrity. He wants to stabilize oil price, he will make naira equate to dollar, he will give youths 5k per month, he will bring back chibok girls, etc. Some of those things are just not within his power to effect. They are dependent on se eral economic factors. That is the point here. |
