Education › Re: List Of The Top 10 Best Universities In Nigeria by hardbody: 6:39pm On Apr 06, 2011
There is just no basis for the required comparative analysis. I finished my programme in a record 4 years in a university in the south east, i can hold my own in my profession against anyone whether here or elsewhere (as in within or without the country), i came to pick a first Masters from one of the effizzy universities, i eventually did, within a record 18months too, but they almost sucked away what i brought with me from my first degree, i mean, it was terrible. Interestingly, the later citadel has consistently made the ranks that most people have put out here. I wanted to follow through with a doctoral programme in that same Uni, but i advised myself agains doing so, at least not in that citadel anymore. Having said that, i am aware that rankings are done in terms of disciplines and faculties and then perhaps overall, based on aggregates. Of course if we are talking about Unis with the most beautiful pieces of edifice but living in past glory, we know them, but if you want to get the best in academic excellence, you need to go beyond the personal aggrandizing efforts that people are putting out here just to justify their schools. There are indeed some good universities coming from the second generation and they include Uniben, Unijos and Unical. These were reputed to be good IN MY PROFESSION and that was as at then, i dont know what the standards are today, especially when people pass JAMB and fail post JAMB which is supposed to be easier.
Anyways, if you really need a first degree, go to any of these universities, apply yourself to it and believe me, you will know enough to enable you make a first move either in the labour market or in a profession. Enough said,

There is a huge difference between what you think and what you know. While one remains in d realms of speculation, the other is indeed a verifiable fact or set of facts. Rather than keep posting responses on what you think happens in sokoto, please ask around and try not to equate today with what it was before you went to seek sanctuary in the US. You cannot, i repeat, you cannot take alchohol in a public place in sokoto except in those specifically designated places. This is contra what happens in the southern or western parts of d country when pubs and joints are 2 a dime. Try and understand my point, rather than defending a non-existing issue. Funny. Guy, I am not telling you 'as i was told'. I could give you details of the hotel i stayed on Kalambaina Road, the room i stayed, and even the matter i went for. BTW I got judgment a a few days ago. having said that, Please note that I have no point to prove and this for your information happened just last year, before the rains that caused flood started. I have not posted that throw scorn, i just needed to make it clear that if i run such risks in my country where i could manage to get away, it is high risk in a different clime where i am a clear and through visitor.

I am not telling what i think about Sokoto, i am telling you what really happened. BTW before i left the airport, i was informed that rather than mammy market, i could have gone to either of NBA secretariat or the Custom officers mess (both on the same area as the hotel i stayed) to drink without fear or let up.

Enuff said!!!

Lol All the mentioned countries will not allow me drink my beer in the open, so that alone is a disincentive and therefore i will not even dream it, i dont care how much they were going to pay assuming it were true that the pasture was greener over there.

Which reminds me of my last trip to Sokoto. My hotel had actually sympathised with me for their inability to sell beer, but recommended i should go to mammy market and drink to my fill, and then buy some for take away and discreetly take same into my room, they promised to look the other way while i pass the reception area.

Trust evil luck, I bought my canned beers and biked back to my hotel room, only for the polythelene bag to go burst just in front of the hotel gate. I urgently walked very briskly into the lobby with the aboki okada man shouting kai, kai, kai, walked past the reception (on a quick reflection i knew that if i stopped to ask for my room card, almajaris and others may come asking for the last guy that took a card and his room number), i simply disappeared in the hotel grounds till night fall, when i came back under cover of faint lighting to pick my canned drinks and surreptitiously smuggled them into my room. Of course the next time i came out of that room was when i was leaving for the airport, and i was careful to make the time fit with the afternoon moslem prayer time. And this is Nigeria ooo, let alone Qatar, Doha, Malaysia and those other leftist nations, God forbid bad thing. Let those that want to go go ahead. Na una left hand them go cut.

One of the brightest stars in the history of the American movie business, Taylor starred in a string of hit movies in the 1950s and 60s, including "Giant," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and "Cleopatra," while becoming an international sex symbol and object of tabloid fascination for her string of love affairs with leading men.

Resuscitation and reactivation of these skills is very simple. Let us Go to another WAR. Necessity 'MAY' force the losing side (this time the North) to come up with more technological inventions to ensure survival. Perhaps after then, steps may be taken to institutionalize their skills, refine and orchestrate them and then Nigeria will become the 'Japan' that Biafra could not achieve. grin grin grin
Politics › Re: Mend Plans To Attack Lagos And Abuja by hardbody: 2:12pm On Mar 15, 2011
Omo9ja, that is called the ranting of an ant. Two things are clear in my head, should these guys decide to attack Lagos, there is nothing your OPC or indeed the military can do about it. It is not a warfare in the strict sense of the word, it is basically guerilla attack and before you guys know what has hit you, you would have several repeat of the atlas cove incident.

You make all these noise about your OPC, a bunch of illiterate hooligans using the minute skills acquired while trying out all sorts with herbs to harrass and intimidate timorous souls. All they are useful for is when they are used by callous Landlords to unlawfully eject tenants, and all such sundry extra-legal matters.

When MEND is talking about modern geurilla manouverings including bomb detonations, et all, you are there contemplating a grappling fight, do u think it is going to be like a wrestling match. Mtcheeeeeeeewwwww.

My advise to people, as much as possible, avoid rallies, crowded spots (bus terminals, major shopping centres, banks, etc or be very cautious and timeously do you thing and get out).

I am hoping that whatever the issues are should be addressed so that this does not escalate. Remeber what the US government intimated us about happenings in Nigeria ? Let us hope that this too will pass away

It is also instructive that for sim swaps, passport (still) pictures and finger prints of the customer are taken, so Etisalat should be able to provide these on request. (if they actually do exist).

As for information relating to their data, the Claimant's solicitor can 'subpoena' the Company to provide and present any and all such data at the risk of being charged with contempt of court and sent to prison upon conviction should they refuse to comply with the court's directive on this.

I think this guy should press his case. i hope he has a good solicitor to pursue this.
Phones › Re: Etisalat Slammed With A N10 Million Law Suit by hardbody: 2:17pm On Mar 09, 2011
at OP
The only snag here is that the guy did not retain me. I would have gotten him his N10milla, appealed on the amount, gotten him N20milla at the higher court (appeal) and then go for the kill atthe supreme court where we will be asking for N50milla.

On a serious note, i think the guy might be able to prove his case. Etisalat might produce data, but the Claimant (through his solicitors) should get the 'traffic carriers' to come and testify on the claims of any such calls on those days when he is sure he never did make any. There is always data on all of these as the Company in question (Etisalat) will normally only pay based actual call traffic. This Claimant needs prove only one or two incosistences and the law will look favourably at his case.

Finally his solicitor should exaggerate a bit on how the populace are suffering because of those flagrant hi-tech abuses by all these telecomm companies. The judge is human and might be swayed to sympathize with the claimant. I wish him well sha, knowing that a stubborn company will be prepared to go all the way to the Supreme Court by which time the man will be too old to enjoy the outcome of this suit.

Tosinville,

I tend to think that this topic, the thought process needed to make an impact and indeed the calibre of inputs being made and particularly those making those contributions slightly rank above what you can effectively handle. I do suggest that you drop off for now and when it is possible to better articulate and comprehend the issues being deliberated upon, you may then come back.

my guess is that at the rate you are going, you may make that meaningful contribution in some 6 years from today. You may now leave!!!!

Emmmm, Harakiri, i have patiently read through this particular thread(i guess the first i have ever managed to finish or at least get to the last comment as at the time of sending in a reply) and i want to WARN you to please stop arguing with some of these people. You made a whole world of posititive impression on me because of your clarity and logical chronology of your ideas and points. I have also read through Lord Reeds arguments and counter arguments, and i must aslo say that he has also made some impression on me. Much as i do not want to join issues on a topic which as far as i can decipher from your posts, have been thoroughly and comprehensively dealt with (with you and Reed coming from seemingly opposite vistas), i tend to lean more on your reasonings which, i must confess relate more to everyday life experience.

You need not join issues with people who clearly are not even able to articulate the real purport of the topic and the issues arising therefrom and being deliberated upon, that would make a total nonesense of the beautiful points you had made much earlier on this thread. having said that, I align myself with the thought that whatever it is women claim to bring into a relationship could be otherwise 'obtained' or 'procured' from outside of relationship. That is the fact of life. Even companionship could be 'paid' for especially if one is willing to accept same no matter how 'pretencious' or 'hypocritical'. I guess women simply add some value in relationship that has graduated into marriage because of the children that had come out of the relationship.
I am yet to come to a conclusion that plunging into that 'graduated relationship' for the sake of what the woman has to offer is worth all the trouble. I may be wrong though, but i am yet to learn

Properties › Re: Giving A Quit Notice To A Tenant. by hardbody: 6:05pm On Mar 04, 2011
If he is owing you one month's notice in arrears, and he pays monthly, then the two fold implication are 1. He is a monthly tenant and is only entitled to one clear month's notice. 2. since he is in arrears, he has by that conduct waived a right to notice, so you could go ahead and serve him the statutory 7 days notice and thereafter file your eviction writ.

Please resist the urge and desist from any acts that will prejudice the law and the courts against you. If you take a wrong step, he steps into the driving seat and determines the speed at which the court proceedings will go and dont forget, he is a statutory tenant and therefore protected by law.

Once you get into court, your solicitor should be able to file applications for expedited hearing and get the matter to be fixed for some 3 cosecutive days hearing and you may be able to quickly get judgement. I generally do not recommend meetings with tenants, if my tenant needs the house, he should press to meet with me, at any rate, he is only protected to an extent, at the end of the day, he will yield possession to you as the landlord. If you could, i would have advised that you could really commence and conclude the eviction process, my dad did, and successfully too. I recommend you talk to a solicitor (lawyer) and give him a full brief). I guess you have a mad man in the making and he needs to be treated with care and dealt with URGENTLY.

@ Poster
Your tenant has rights under the law, so you must take careful and clinical steps to ensure that you do not perpetuate his stay by making technical mistakes. Anyone could serve a quit notice, but it is preferable that a lawyer be briefed to do that because a notice that doesnt meet the technical requirements will not stand up when challenged in court. His tenancy will determine the notice he gets (monthly, quarterly, weekly or yearly). After the notice is served (with the appropriate timing) upon expiration of the time on the notice, he is entitled to another notice of 7 clear days indicating your intention to get him to quit at the risk of filing papers to so do in court. As soon as the 7 days expires, u can file a writ in court (or rent tribunal depending on the rental value) and if the matter is expedited, in less than a month, you will get a judgement in your favour asking him to quit.

Being a stubborn tenant, chances are he will refuse to quit. Get the Baillifs, working with the Sherriffs through the Court Registrar to evict him at an unholy hour of the day (preferably during the rainy season) his things will be recklessly and indeed malicously be thrown outside the premises.

Advantages of following legal procedure include the following: He cannot turn back and go to court and say he was wrongfully evicted, he cannot go and claim injuctive reliefs on the grounds that you tampered with electricity (which you have no right to do anyways) and more importantly, upon his things being thrown out, the bailliffs and sherriffs will ensure that he pays up whatever amount that is outstanding on the rent (which the law now recognizes as mesne profit) and also the cost of eviction. Indeed talk to your solicitor
