Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Does Having Masters Help Get Shortlisted For Recruitments Asking For 2.1? by hardbody: 5:43pm On Jun 30, 2021 |
I will approach this purely from real life experience using my office environment. There is this IT guy that came in as a contract staff. In all honesty, he is a hand i trust so much and if i have any IT related issues, he is my go-to guy. Most other colleagues trust his skills and dexterity too. Usually my organization periodically arranges conversion for contract staff to be elevated into mainstream. This guy had most of us speaking for him and you would have assumed that his conversion will be a stroll in the park, or so it seemed until HR brought to our attention a policy of the company that stipulated new entrants must have a second upper (or Higher Distinction in HND). This my favored IT guy had a 3rd Class. The policy of 2.1 stood between him and that conversion till today. My point?
1. School certificates/degree is not a waste of time. Go through school and be sure to make the best grade possible 2. Don't lose focus, your side hustle may be what you need to keep surviving till the big bang 3. The person that does not want to help will tell you if only had a good degree/certificate. Shut him up with one 4. Having a 2.1 is a better problem to have than having a 3 class or a pass (the guy that had pass in my year in school is now the only SAN in my set, so while 2.1 is dope, what you do after the result speaks for you. 5. It appears that a Masters Degree will augment a 2.2 if you did not make a 2.1. 6. I have since realized that a stronger degree still puts you in a stronger position when the chips are down. Chevening scholarship will not consider you if you have anything lower than a 2.1. A number of other scholarships will talk to 2.1 first before talking to 2.2. The big 4 will almost always give a preference to a 2.1 before a 2.2. Until recently, banks will invite a 2.1 in any field for those jamboree tests. 7. Finally, I got all the jobs in my career without any internal connection. Aside God, my result and performance always stood me out. It can work for you too.
Make the best of all and every opportunity. |

Coronabirus: Kafir is a person who isn't Muslim. If u have the guts let Muslims bring their juma'ar sermon here and Christians bring their sunday church lectures to see and prove who is more religious jingoist, who is fanatics, who is extreme hater. All ur hate services are on our ears, we don't do things that way because in Islam is completely prohibited. Come and see how Southerners live in paradise in the North; they buy lands and acquire cheap shops with no segregation or wicked clause, we humbly treat them well, infact, in the past decade the whole world have seen who are barbaric and more brutal to others. The case of Fulani is a general case because they kill much more people in Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Sokoto or in one state among those above more than those killed in the entire south. Don't twist everything and give it ethno-religious perception. Other reasons why we won't leave u to secede are documented in this piece below:
Before independece, Tafawa Balewa too had in a public speech described Nigeria as a British experiment and Nigeria's unity as a British intention which Nigerians themselves don't believe in. But Azikiwe kicked and demonized him too. Had Azikiwe co-operated with Enahoro, Awolowo, Ahmadu Bello and Tafawa Balewa about the secession clause, Nigeria perhaps would not have been this misgoverned. It should be noted that there were many Igbo members of the parliament in which Azikiwe fought against Awolowo's secession clause proposal, but not a single one of them rose against Azikiwe or condemned him. Igbos initially never wanted to hear anything like secession in Nigeria because they so much believed, though falsely, that they were the most educated tribe. As an evidence of Igbo domination agenda hence their initial resistance to the idea of secession; here is a quote: "From all indications, the god of us Igbos have destined us to rule the whole of Africa" Going by the manner & antecedent of what Azikwe said in 1944 and the proposed bill against secession by Anthony Enahoro in 1958 it can be deduced that, the North & West were forced by Igbos' surreptitious political trick which forced us to commit ourselves into this contract called Nigeria & we've invested so much that dividing this nation so easily can't be allowed by Northerners. I am Igbo I am all for one Nigeria Ken Saro Wiwa was also for one Nigeria He fought on the side of the Feds Today we know what happened to him The Feds will come calling again We will still remain one Nigeria |

This scenario comes across as a deja vu.
There was this time Abacha imprisoned MKO. I don't recall, but something happened to Abacha and not long after then, something also happened to MKO. So soon thereafter, the political landscape changed. I hope it is not going to happen the way i am feeling. Time shall tell.

Speeddial: After his lawyers replied that they also owe him lots of pension arrears, after about a week he started receiving the alert in his pension account, more than 12 months arrears alert on his phone in one day. This does not invalidate the fact that the pension was not routed appropriately. Indeed the monies paid to him can be argued as not being pension but like I said, depends how his lawyer is pushing it. |

Speeddial: I am writing this because I feel the management of this company is a group of people who do not want its workers to succeed.
My brother worked for this company for about 5 years, and within these 5 years, salary has never been consistent.
At times they may even stay up to six months before they pay one month
Even when his wife gave birth he met with them and asked them to help him with little money to cushion the cost of the hospital bills, but all to no avail.
Not only the fact that they were not paying salaries, but they were not also remitting his pensions.
You know what that means, these pensions are supposed to be paid on time to enable them to compound in interest.
Before he resigned they were owing to him four months' salary.
He was willing to let it go
So he left without getting paid
As soon as he left it wasn't even up to a week they paid him four months salary at once
After they paid him the salary they sent him a letter that he should come and pay them some money as a sort of compensation to them.
When my brother talked about the fact that they also owe him a pension, it didn't take them a week to remit pension of over 1 year 6 months
So they took him to court, ever since then my brother has been paying a lawyer who has been demanding money-wise.
This is a company that will sack its workers without any sort of compensation.
I feel they are doing this just to create fear in the mind of all the workers in the company so they can also tread with caution, but the effect of their decision is telling on my brother.
Right now he is not concentrating and he is spending money that he doesn't have.
Some time ago they gave him the training he did online and they claim they sent him to Australia to study.
And thereby he should pay them 2 million as compensation.
Guys please I need your advice and how he could handle this case very well. Your brother should counter claim for delayed salaries and all. Was the pension paid to him direct, if yes he should join PENCOM in the suit. Pensions should be remitted to PENCOM monthly. It is criminal not to do that and PENCOM will come hard on the company. This matter should be taken to the industrial court and sorted out quickly, the court gives quick judgments. Unfortunately details of the contract are not known. He can sue for restraint of trade among other things. If the lawyer knows what he is doing, there shouldn't be so much issues. Contracts in restraint of trade is against public policy and can be effectively challenged. Let him use a good lawyer and all of these will be sorted |

I had to admit that I had had enough before that aunty (she was sha bigger, older and very frustrated) released me. Buzx: You're talking about the marketing aspect of insurance, which is mostly applied to field marketers who go around, make calls, go online to look for customers that will buy an insurance policy. Insurance is very wide with different job descriptions. They're other departments in Insurance whose salary isn't based on commission and whose job description isn't marketing. Why do Nigerians just jump to the conclusion that insurance = commission-based salary. Spot on bro A lot of Nigerians do not know and do not even try to hide their ignorance and when they are taught, pride will not let them learn and move on. What really worries me is the fact they throw their ignorance out there and claim to speak with authority. How someone can be peddling ignorance with so much authority baffles me, honestly. |

4teenblaq: I am a job seeker, someone is recommending me to an insurance company...
I really want to know how their pay goes.. I have read a few comments here. Some are near correct, others are completely off the mark. 1. If you are taken in as an agent, you are NOT on any salary and you make commissions on your sale. 2. If you are employed in the mainstream, you are placed on a normal salary (as negotiated by you when coming through the interview process) and the salary is dependent on all other similar requirements such as experience and what you are bringing to the table. There are various departments in the system (underwriting, accounts and finance, HR, Facility Management, Legal Dept, etc). The disadvantage of coming in as a commissioned agent is that you will struggle to get a footing, finding the market, etc. However, after a while and you have built the customers, there is no limit to what you can earn, especially when you have grown to become a unit manager and then an agency manager. At this level, you even earn commission on sales carried out by the agents selling under you. If you are employed in mainstream, you may be entitled to salary, BUK, Pension, bonus and other perks of office relative to your position including official car and house, paid leave, offshore trips, etc. In the final analysis, determine the workstream that you are joining on and then you can take it from there. For the records, It is only in Nigeria that Banks are bigger than Insurance companies. In the western world, insurance companies sit on large pool of funds and they actually own banks and for those who say their pay is meagre, try find out what the likes of AXA Mansard, Leadway, AIICO and NEM among others are paying. Also try and find out why employees from the big Audit firms and some banks are clamouring for the insurance companies. Ask around and find out how many staff of insurance companies get fired or made redundant relative to their banker cousins. On a final punch, a certified actuary (and there are very few in Nigeria) earns more than N300m (less bonuses, house, car, fully paid foreign holidays, etc, per annum. If that is defined is meagre, then I give up. I speak with authority because I have worked in Insurance, Banking, Telecoms and practised law (all as a lawyer) All the best in your search. |

BigBelleControl: Banking and Finance, just like Business Administration is not a professional course. Studying it does not guarantee you working in a bank unlike courses like Accounting, Law, Medicine or even Engineering. Anybody with any discipline can work in a bank because some trainings would still be done.
However, you can study the course for the knowledge and you might be lucky to get a banking job with it. But it's not a guarantee Meaningful input. I will only advise rather than Banking and Finance, a more general course that will lead in the same direction is Business Administration. It has aspects of Banking et al as part of the course work. |

But only 8 of you are successful lawyers, bro the success rate is very slim na. Did I lie, when I said anytime I visit a high court, some hungry looking lawyers will be hustling for cases. What are you successful lawyers doing about that? Because most lawyers are broke. They only take solace in their title. No vex ones more if my words hurt you. I repeat, you are limited in knowledge, now i think comprehension is also a problem for you. Please go back and read what I wrote, this time very carefully. If 8 persons made 2.1 and all are doing well, it is 100%. Did you actually go to any school? Yes your words hurt me, because you are deliberately misleading the younger people who may be nurturing the ambition of becoming learned and noble. You bring in your mediocrity and warped undeveloped mind to corrupt their otherwise pristine thoughts and intentions. How about you stick to what you know and stop spewing gibberish. While at it, what are you always doing in the precincts of a law court, are you a fraudster always in and out of detention and needing bail? Even me that i am that profession, I hardly find myself there except when I need to. Having said this, I am done with this convo. Live your life and be merry. Kingpin1000: Then who are those lawyers we see, whenever we visit a court running up and down hustling for cases.. baba every career has it's downside but law is on another level. You are limited in knowledge. Lawyers are even opportuned to do charge and bail so they can put bread on the table. They are qualified to do this the moment they are called to the Bar. They can go straight from the call point to court. Tell me how many other professions give you the leverage to start working as a professional immediately you are certified. Like i did say, how about you guys leave law alone and go study the professions that provide you the needed comfort in Nigeria. I am so freaking tired of all these crappy comparisons. Undeveloped brains fail to realize that there are rich and poor doctors, engineers, pilots, etc. Same applies to lawyers. The certainty about the legal profession is that you will certainly get to the top if keep working assiduously. There is always a humble beginning and when they get to the zenith of their career, you will not be there to know that there are some briefs that they settle with nothing less than N100m, N500m, N1b, etc. Keep seeing only the struggling charge and bail lawyers. There were 8 of us in my set that made 2.1. As i write, none, not even one has not made a mark in our chosen fields. Stay there and be castigating and deriding younger colleagues, rather than finding what should give you joy and happiness. |

RightToReject: Yes, and of course, the law profession remains a noble and lucrative profession. There is no versatile - seasoned or not - lawyer in Nigeria that is perpetually poor. There are more areas of practice in law other than litigation, and even at that, versatile seasoned litigators are well off. You actually have the time to respond to this over flogged topic. The OP and his supporters should leave law alone and study other lucrative courses. I am a lawyer...I have straddled practice, banking, insurance and telecoms. These boys think all lawyers do is go to court, even at that, i know how much i approve for my external solicitors on each brief. Only lawyers are so versatile that they are found in virtually every industry. Kids don't know and won't learn. In my next world i will still be a lawyer but i will only start earlier than i did in my present life. |
