Tshaphilo:sorry for the loss but it is not every patient that dies from the negligence of a doctor. That your friend is weeping doesnt make the doctor guilty. This man is accusing a single doctor for failure to remove his catheter for six days in a teaching hospital that would have had up to six or more different doctors during that period. please, always reason well. A teaching hospital will have a house officer on call, a registrar, a senior registar and a consultant in charge of the case. Even nurses can remove catheter if need be cos they only need to deflate it and remove it. so a single super doctor refused to remove the catether for six days and every other staff refused cos he refused to bribe the super doctor. Chinwem:my dear, most neonatal cases are very complex. A baby with severe sepsis can develop jaundice with severe respiratory acidosis and deranged blood gases that may warrant ECMO. Hypoplastic lungs commonly occur with jaundice and many of them will need assisted ventilation including ECMO. neonatal cases requiring intensive care are usually complex and interwoven so your jundice may not occur in isolation. moreso this baby died within 4 days so that will tell you the severity of the case. in nigeria, how many hospitals can boast of conventional ventilators? so attitude will replace ventilators? The man just told you his baby died from jaundice and was blaming the hospital and i am telling you the mere fact they knew the baby was suffering from jaundice doesnt mean they must be able to help. i am telling you what could have happened to the baby and you already conclude i was bragging. Good history for neonatal jaundice....for christ sake these people delivered this baby in their hospital via cs so what history are you talking about? . so you think if it is just about bili lights the baby would die within four days and you assumed the hospital didnt know about bili light or exchange blood transfusion. horlus:so sorry for your loss but that doesnt mean the hospital is to blame. look, the mere fact they knew your baby had jaundice doesnt mean they must be able to save your baby unless you tell us what they were supposed to do that they didnt do. it may interest you to know that we dont have any level 3 NICU in nigeria where we can take care of extremely sick babies. no faacilities for ECMO, HFOV etc. so even if your baby is seriously sick and i know your baby needs any of these, i cant help cos we dont have such facilities. moreso, jaundice from what? is your wife O NEGATIVE? was the jauncice physiological or was it as a result of infection or even congenital problem ? i am not standing in for them but the mere fact they knew your baby had jaundice does not mean they must be able to save your baby. people still die even in the best setting despite advanced medical procedures. my intention is to set up a level 3 NICU in nigeria with facilties for ECMO but even in such centres the minimum deposit will still be like 500,000 naira only. i need close to 500milliion to set it up and to maintain is very expensive. i am presently studying neonatal medicine at cardiff and my total school fees when i finish this post graduate program will be about 15million in 2yrs. so, it will still be impossible for me to help the very sick children of poor people even after setting it up so if you bring your sick baby in emergency without deposit i wont admit you and that doesnt mean i am wicked. 11 Likes |

Just because the unemployed are demanding for 5k promised by APC, they are looking for a way to push back the blame on the previous govt. i was shocked when osibanjo said there was no database for them but when they were campaigning they told us 25million youths were unemployed. zaragal:when we advise you, you won't hear. By the way, I am a doctor. Nigeria is so rotten so you need to understand how the system works for your own safety. Just this last week, we had a woman that was dying...she had bled so much and within a short period, we gave her 8 pints of blood without the husband depositing anything yet it is a private hospital. she went into a failure and we had to defribrillate her. But I will never forget something...the husband was so calm that he made our job so easy. By making trouble with the health people taking care if your family, you put them under pressure and as human beings they will make wrong choices. So, for your information, health centres are built to take normal uncomplicated delivery. This is nigeria and not UK. The idea is that rather than allow women patronise all these traditional birth homes and churches, let them deliver in a place close to them, cheap enough but at least they will be able to spot complications faster than traditional homes and direct them to secondary centres. Secondly, by making so much trouble, he put the workers under so much pressure they started attempting to do something just to please him while his wife was dying. 3 Likes |

I know Rauf aregbesola hospital very well, it is a primary health centre. They don't handle any case more than normal uncomplicated delivery. I wonder how this educated man registered his wife in only a primary health centre. He should have at least registered her in another private hospital. You don't even present early..she got there after she must have been in labour overnight. Forget the labour started by 5 am story. Moreso, the nurses were persistent early enough in informing him they couldnt handle it but he should go to igando but rather he kept making trouble wasting precious time. There are several good private hospital at egbeda but he kept telling them a hospital couldn't be that big without a doctor. The nurses under pressure were forced to do what they could not do thereby wasting more time. By the time he agreed to go he was asking for referral note in emergency. That there was no doctor on duty was administrative....a health centre is primarily run by CHEWS under the supervision of a doctor who may not be available 24 hrs except corpers. so he went to health centre blaming the nurses who rightly told him it was beyond them. I am not saying our health system is not rotten but some people make trouble at the wrong time. You will save your wife first then come back to make trouble. RIP and my condolences 13 Likes 1 Share |

Assuming both CCB and federal high court are even equal and coordinate courts, the FHC is the ist to make an order. In order not cause confusion, the CCB ordinarily ought to wait till Monday and then challenge the FHC over its jurisdiction on the matter. Once CCB frees itself from such legal hurdle then it can make an order. Why were they in a hurry? This is beyond Saraki and apc. We are about to set a very bad precedence. No sane person with conscience will support an order given by A CCB chairman who himself refused to appear before EFCC to answer his own allegations. The earlier buhari distance himself from this CCB chairman, the better. For all you know, the doctor might have gone there to certify dead bodies....maybe the woman and the baby were already dead while the grandma was taking the delivery, the fear might have caused the grandma to to eventually die when the doctor broke the news.
