I agree that abortion leads to death so a harm is done,but what I am saying is that the PROs of removing an UNWANTED pregnancy especially at its earliest stages(within the first 2months) outweighs the CONs of carrying it to full term ,having and raising a child unprepared, something that poses a risk to the life and the quality of living of the mother and the child that would be brought into the world.

In the case of rape the PRO is simply the sexual gratification which the man enjoys for a few minutes,the CONs include the psychological, emotional and physical trauma the woman faces for the rest of her life,she might even get infected with a deadly STI and die in the process so her life is even at threat. So clearly the CONs outweigh the PRO hence I consider it wrong.

The only argument I can consider valid against abortion is from the perspective of "THE SANCTITY OF LIFE" which posits that human life is sacred and shouldn't be taken without a justifiable cause,but as I already pointed out,I consider it justifiable to remove an unwanted pregnancy because by my own assessment the PROs outweigh the CONs .
This doesn't mean I lack empathy towards the defenseless foetuses cos I was once like that but I'm not narrow minded or sentimental, I'm being Logical

My thoughts on this(Religion aside)

It might be a long read so I would just give an abstract and u can read the rest if u want. Abortion is a case of interest. One has to prioritize the life of the foetus or the comfort and life of the mother. I would prioritize the latter and this is just considering it as a matter of bringing in a human being into the world,going beyond that are other issues such as the welfare of the child,the implications it has on the mother and the society as well.
I think Abortion (wilful termination of pregnancy) should be avoided as much as possible because of the health implications and of course the psychological distress it might cause depending on the individual involved and of course the supposed threat it poses to the SANCTITY OF LIFE. However whether we like it or not people get unwanted pregnancies and as much as we can try to dissuade people from avoiding conditions that leads to that happening it still occurs. An unborn baby,foetus,pregnancy, pregnant tissue,whatever u want to call it may be seen as a human being based on biological classification but it IS NOT fully developed yet so it can not carry out the basic functions every human can carry out,so at best it is a potential person but it is not a person yet. It is important I state that I am an atheist and my source of morality is strictly based on PROS and CONS. If a particularly act given the circumstances it is carried out yields more benefit than harm then I regarded it as GOOD and vice versa. Now in the case of abortion,obviously a life is taken in the process,an undeveloped human dies but I consider this a better option than ruining the life of the woman, carrying the pregnancy to full term poses a lot of risk to the mother,delivery also does and this is not even up for argument check the number of woman who die during childbearing. The reason we don't consider the harm a pregnancy and parturition poses to the mother is because the reason for delivering the baby outweighs the risk in most cases,however in the case of an unwanted pregnancy all these risks come to light,and beyond delivery there is a responsibility on the woman to raise the child,some people can argue that rather than abort,the woman can have the child and give up the responsibility to the government or other institution or straight up abandon the child in a non-hostile condition at least. So simply considering the CONs involved in carrying an unwanted pregnancy and during delivery (assuming that's all the CONs the woman faces) I would still say that the PROs for abortion outweighs the CONs in most circumstances. And let's also consider that in a society where abortion is illegal women are even more endangered to losing their life while trying to remove the pregnancy,and of course I didn't consider that in most cases when a woman unfit or unprepared to have a child bears one it almost certainly ruins her life and the child is brought into the world to suffer,the child may not be well raised and may turn to become a menace to the society.

You framed your question as though many drugs are not used everyday to treat "close friends, relatives and patients" of certain conditions without a sufficient prove (through medical trials) for use in such conditions. How else would you call such use of drug other than off-label? HCQ is presently being used as an off-label treatment for Covid-19. Do Dr's wait for sufficient prove before using drugs as off label? Knowlege of the mechanism of action, pathophysiology of the disease, Anecdotal evidence and evidence in practice are usually all they need to prescribe such drugs so far as the benefit of use outweighs the risk. This is clearly the case for covid19 and HCQ. I understand the need for sufficient prove as you said but we are not in normal times. We are in a pandemic, so timelines and standards for approval are relaxed to shorten the time effective candidates get to the patient.

Regarding the side effects, Chloroquine and its metabolite HCQ are not new molecules as you said. They have been around for over 50yrs and used for the treatment of malaria. It adverse effects are well documented but they are known to be generally save. WHO relied on the result of the now retracted research published on Lancet about the safety and efficacy of HCQ to discontinue its own research. So if these drugs are generally safe, and there are no proven treatments available, and there is an anecdotal evidence that these drugs treat and prevent covid-19 when used early, why deny Drs the right to prescribe these agent to patients as it is being done in the US? I am not encouraging abuse and misuse. I have stated clearly in one of my comments here that they shld be prescribed by a professional

Well if HCQ has a reasonable benefit in the treatment of Coronavirus compared to the risks then its fine to use it when there are no contraindications,however if there is insufficient evidence to prove this I do not think that regulatory agencies should say they are beneficial when they are not and that's my position.

There is such a thing as risk benefit ratio,the dose that may be needed to obtain a considerable effect for use in coronavirus may be quite high and considering that that would expose the patient to more side effects the riskay outweigh the benefits especially if the benefit is not really high.
Let me give u the benefit of doubt and assume that HCQ is effective in treatment of coronavirus. From my knowledge on how HCQ works it can only control the symptoms such as inflammation, now the virus may be defeated by the immune system with time and then it would be said that HCQ cured coronavirus. But consider that the immune system played a larger role maybe 80%,now HCQ with all its side effect contributed just 20%,if the immunity was low u wouldn't get a substantial effect with HCQ without exposing the patient to a toxic dose.


This is just an instance of one of the factors that maybe discredit the use of HCQ from treatment of coronavirus and I didn't even have to carry out a research,from my knowledge in pharmacy and drugs I know this is predictable,now consider what those carrying out the research must have encountered for them to discredit it even after the President declared it efficacious or u think they wouldn't have been more considerate not to embarrass the president and just recommended it for management of symptoms.

There is more than meets the eye,except u do a research urself my advice is to listen to constituted authority,yes they are humans and of course they can be deceptive but these authority have over the years proven that they are efficacious, this woman hasn't proven anything I can't take her word over the FDA and other health regulatory agencies which have more qualified professionals but if u think rebelling against recognized and research institutions is the way to go maybe u should start from ignoring all the WHO recommend treatment modalities when next you buy your antimalarials take all the tablets at a go or maybe just one tablet and discard the rest.

As much as everyone out there I want a cure to be found as soon as possible,I have parents and loved who have comorbidities I have lost a person close to a friend to this disease who knows,tomorrow it could be a direct relative so it would be unreasonable not to wish for her claim not to be true,however any claim of a curative or palliative therapy has to be demonstrated. In this case trials have been conducted on Hydroxychloroquine an it has been ruled out as an alternative especially considering the side effects and now this woman comes up to lay these claims,I'm not saying she is wrong but she has a burden to proof what she has claimed and if I were to pick a side I would say she is insincere or ignorant considering that trials have been made by several credible bodies,except if you claim that all these bodies have some sinister intentions.
The summary is this,I'm concerned that you are in a haste to take sides when sufficient evidence is not available and the one which is to be held most credible is against the claim. You are a pharmacist u have a duty to stand against the misuse and abuse of drugs and also hesitation to administer drugs that would be of benefit to the patient.
