FoxMeek recently come across a heartbreaking video on YouTube showing a family of six from Angola has been stuck at the Incheon International Airport, South Korea for six months while seeking refuge in the country over fears of being killed by security operatives in their home country. In the heartbreaking video which was shared by Asian Boss, a media company situated in South Korea, sighted by FoxMeek the Lulendo family, who fled from their home country after a series of events that made them fear for their own lives now rely on strangers to survive. In the video, FoxMeek learnt that the family’s plight began on Nov. 16, 2018 when their father, Nkuka, came across street vendors being chased by police officers while driving a taxi. At the time, Nkuka was just fired from his job, while the Angolan government was dealing with vendors causing traffic jams. Speaking with one of Asian Boss correspondent, Nkuka said; “I was driving down the street and all of a sudden, there was a crowd that passed in front of me, I couldn’t just run these people over.” he said. “I swerved my car to the right, but there was a jeep that belonged to the police on my right, and I smashed right into the police car.” “The police noticed that I was Bakongo and more policemen came. There were six or seven of them. They knew I was Bakongo and they started threatening me.” he, said. According to the father-of-four, he automatically sent to jail on the spot, without trial. And he was made to face unimaginable torture. “I stayed in jail, where they started to mistreat me. I was tortured in ways that you couldn’t believe. I was there for 10 days, and every day, I was tortured over and over, and I’d cry.” he recalled. After he was made to escape from the prison by a good samaritan who he claimed was also from Bakongo, he reached to his wife on phone only to head that she was raped. “The following day, I called my wife. She came to tell me that the same day I had been released from jail, the policemen had gone all the way to my house and they raped my wife,” Nkuka said. The family was later advised to leave the country, which made them to start going to different embassies, hoping to obtain visas. They ended up at the South Korean Embassy. Senator Godswill Akpabio yesterday (Tuesday) testified at the ongoing National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal against the victory of Senator Chris Ekpenyong, Igbere TV reports. Akpabio, the petitioner, after presenting 14 witnesses so far, is mandated to mount the dock and convince the tribunal on why the victory of Dr Ekpenyong should be upturned in his favour. On Monday, his cousin Ibanga Akpabio who claimed to be the All Progressives Congress agent for the Senatorial District told the tribunal that he cannot recount the Local Government Areas his party won. Ibanga Akpabio under cross examination by Counsel to the Peoples Democratic Party, Solomon Umoh SAN, was asked as Senatorial Agent, to mentioned the Local Government Areas that his party won in his senatorial district. “Ikot Ekpene and some others that I do not know”, Akpabio, who is also a lawyer answered “I put it to you that you lost in all Local Government Areas”, Umoh added Counsel to Independent National Electoral Commission, Robert Emukpoeruo told the tribunal that the APC members unleashed violence on INEC adhoc staff, abducted and coerced them into writing results in favour of APC. Ibanga Akpabio who denied this statement was however drawn to paragraph 11 of his witness statement, where he noted that “…an INEC staff escaped with a phone call and never came back”. The INEC Counsel told the tribunal that,3″To confirm in paragraph 11 of your witness statement that INEC officials were abducted, you said that at final point of collation, he received a phone call and escaped. I put it to you that one can only escape from abduction”, Emukpoeruo submitted The witness agreed with INEC, that accreditation in an election can only be done with voters’ registers and/or card readers. “On the result sheet, column for accreditation has to be collated from card readers and voters’ registers. Do you agree? Counsel asked ‘yes’ Akpabio replied ‘Is there any other source where this information can be obtained?’ Counsel asked ‘No’ Akpabio replied ‘where polling unit results contained in a result is not obtainable from number of accredited voters on smart card readers and voters’ registers, the result is invalid. Do you agree?’ Emukpoeruo asked “Yes” Akpabio replied ‘I put it to you that 7 out of 11 wards of Essien Udim LGA, there is no record of accreditation’. Emukpoeruo added Despite argument from Sunday Ameh, Counsel to Senator Godswill Akpabio, INEC presented polling unit results, where witness agreed that results of Ukana West 1, 2 and IKpe Annang were non existent. ‘From INEC forms P420-P530, I put it to you that there are no polling unit results for Ukana West 1, Ukana west 2 and Ikpe Annang’ Emukpoeruo said ‘They are not here. We asked our lawyer to apply to INEC but it is like we have not gotten them’ Akpabio defended ‘My Lord, the witness should be given time to look at the documents’ Ameh “If the witness agrees that they are not there, there is no point wasting our time”, the Tribunal Chairman reasoned Akpabio after examining the documents agreed that there were no results for Ukana West 1, Ukana West 2 and Ikpe Annang. Emukpoeruo, who brought the voters registers P489-508 and results sheets P544 for Okon Ward argued with Ibanga Akpabio, “that all results you have on P544 are enteries that do not reflect P489-P508”, Emukpoeruo said ‘It is faint and I cannot see’” Ibanga Akpabio, former State Deputy Chairman of PDP stated. “I put it to you that if you add all those results, your party is still the loser”, Emukpoeruo submitted. Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has dissociated himself from the purported inauguration of a campaign platform known as ‘Southeast for President 2023’, Igbere TV reports. The governor in a statement by his spokesman, Emmanuel Uzor obtained by Igbere TV, described the inauguration of the group on Tuesday in Abakaliki, the state capital, as a distraction. Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) had last week also proposed Umahi for President of Nigeria in 2023. Umahi said he was more committed to delivering quality and purposeful leadership to the people of Ebonyi. “The Governor was greatly embarrassed by the link to Presidential ambition of 2023 being circulated in various social media platforms and wishes to state that he will not be distracted by the various endorsements by groups and individuals who clamour for Nigeria President of Igbo extraction. “Governor Umahi does not know the promoters of the platform and could not have contracted them to do the job but believes that any genuine and law abiding Nigerians reserve the right to go about their business as long as it doesn’t not impinge on laid down rules of the country. “Let me say again, as a Nigerian and Igbo man and in my capacity as the Chairman of South East Governors Forum, I am not against the idea or agitation for Nigeria President of Igbo extraction but linking me to it at this time is mostly embarrassing, distracting and premature and I beg to be left out of it,” the statement said. Some registered political parties on Tuesday took side with the Independent National Electoral Commission, ( INEC) over the controversy trailing the electronic transmission of results of the 2019 general elections, Igbere TV reports. The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had claimed that it won the last presidential election. It further claimed that the results posted on INEC website justified its stance. The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT), sitting in Abuja on Monday denied the PDP access to the server and data of smart card reader the INEC allegedly used to compute the results of the 2019 presidential election. Justice Mohammed Garba, in a ruling, rejected their application to inspect the materials INEC reportedly deployed in the conduct of the February 23 election. He held that doing so would further create the impression that the tribunal had concluded that there was a central server where results of the February 23 election were received and stored. Speaking with newsmen yesterday, the Joint Forum of 60 Presidential Candidates and National chairmen said since the Electoral Act Amendment Bill was not assented by President Muhammadu Buhari, there was no provision for electronic transmission of results in the electoral act that guided the conduct of the last general elections. National chairman of Action Democratic Party, Mohammed Shittu who addressed journalists on behalf of his colleagues, accused the PDP of mischief as he declared that INEC had told presidential candidates that it would not be possible to transmit results electronically following the withholding of assent by the President. He said: “In the buildup to the elections, we as Presidential candidates and our political parties held several meetings with INEC. The delay in finalizing the electoral legal framework and the eventual withholding of assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill deprived the nation of the much-needed reform of our electoral process which must be anchored on the rule of law. “The needless controversy over the INEC Server would have been lawful as it would have been mandatory for the Commission to deploy the server. We are aware that INEC had run pilots on electronic transmission of results. It had informed us that these pilots were deployed in Anambra, Ondo, Ekiti and Osun Governorship elections. “However, INEC informed all political parties in the election following the withholding of assent by the President that it would not deploy the electronic transmission of results since it would not be lawful to do so. “We must inform Nigerians now that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was represented in those meetings and we do not know why they are heating up the polity with the server story. “This INEC Server controversy is a deliberate ploy to destroy the integrity of our electoral process. Can the so-called results from the server be referred to as credible where INEC could not have legitimately transmitted results of the Presidential or any of the other elections electronically?” Responding to the verdict of the European Union Election Observation Mission which noted that the electoral process in Nigeria fell short of global standards, the political parties decried the international body appraisal. “Gentlemen of the press, having gathered as Presidential candidates and thoroughly x-rayed the 2019 election, the unfavourable and hostile environment the election management body operated under, and the extant laws under which the elections were conducted, have come to the emphatic conclusion that the INEC performed creditably well and we hereby unequivocally reaffirm our confidence in INEC for its performance against all odds in the conduct of the 2019 General Elections.” “There were several innovations introduced by INEC which made the 2019 elections freer, fairer and more credible than what was obtainable in the past elections such as the simultaneous accreditation and voting; the introduction of assistive innovations for physically challenged voters; the Continuous Voter Registration which added fourteen (14) million new voters to the register were but a few of the innovations introduced by INEC. “Therefore, the report of the European Union Election Observation Mission released over a week ago wherein they alleged a lack of transparency in the guidelines of election is bewildering. With all due respect to the EUEOM, it is left to Nigerians to decide how we conducted our 2019 general elections.” In attendance were Chief Perry Opara, Joint Convener, Forum of 60 Presidential candidates; Dr Rabia Cengiz, national chairman/ presidential candidate, National Action Council; Barrister Charles Ogboji, national chairman, ANDP; Alhaji Isab Dansaki, national chairman/ presidential candidate, MMM, amongst others. Mr. Cletus Udoakpan, a chieftain of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) who on Wednesday, June 19 came to the ongoing National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal, to testify in support of the Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West and a former governor of Akwa Ibom, Godswill Akpabio left the tribunal stunned as he failed to prove that he voted in the recently concluded elections, Igbere TV reports. According to reports gathered by Igbere TV, another witness identified as Mr. Ubokutom Nyah also failed to explain the absence of his name from the list of the APC agents duly recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In the statement made by the witness, Udoakpan claimed to be the Presidential/National Assembly ward agent of APC for Ekpenyong Ward 1, but was unable to back his claim up that he voted in Uruk Obong 2 Unit, Ekpenyong Ward 1, Essien Udim Local Government Area, as he could not present a voter’s card, Igbere TV reports. A chagrined Senator Godswill Akpabio who had earlier exchanged pleasantries with his successor Senator Chris Ekpenyong, both watched proceedings from different sections of the courtroom. Solomon Umoh, SAN Counsel to the PDP reasoned that the inability the PW9 to produce a valid voter's card means he is not even a registered voter and never voted at the said unit as claimed in his witness statement. "My Lord, I put it to him that he is not a registered voter, that is why he did not attach his voter's card to his witness statement", Solomon Umoh said. Udokpan who also told the tribunal that he did not witness announcement of results in the 15 polling units of his ward, confessed that he based his witness statement on oral reports he received from polling unit agents via telephone. The witness told the tribunal that from INEC exhibits presented to him, there are no records of accreditation but insisted that accreditation was done across units in his ward. Earlier during cross examination of PW8, Ubokutom Nyah, an APC chieftain who claimed to have been ward agent of APC in Ekpenyong Ward 2, failed to explain why his name was not in the list of authentic ward agents whose names were presented by the APC to the Independent National Electoral Commission. "I was not privy to see the names submitted to INEC but I was given a ward agent tag," Nyah had replied. On Exhibit P415, which was submitted to the tribunal by the witness as election results, Umoh told the tribunal that "the results were not a product of votes of the people in Ekpenyong Ward 2 because elections did not hold due to ballot snatching, thuggery and violence". Nyah, who argued with Umoh, that there was accreditation and election in all the units in his ward, however admitted that he only got the results from what he was told by the unit agents. This was the same view of another witness Raphael Udoma who claimed he was shocked that the documents which included voter’s register and result sheets from INEC presented before him as exhibits were at variance with the ones actually used at the units in his ward during the National Assembly election. "I chose to believe my informants who told me that there were elections in their units, I don't believe the reports contained in the Exhibits from INEC that elections were cancelled. It is shocking", Raphael Udoma exclaimed. "Witness, it is shocking because your informants did not tell you the truth. My Lord, he chose to believe his informants who he only heard from, instead of those INEC certified documents he has seen with his eyes", Counsel to PDP said of PW10. As the ongoing fireworks at the election petition tribunal for Akwa Ibom North West between the incumbent Senator Chris Ekpenyong and the immediate past senator Godswill Akpabio continues, it has been revealed that all the witnesses presented at the tribunal by Akpabio so far, have based their submissions on hearsay, with no unit agent being presented as witness by the petitioner. The tribunal adjourned sits again on Thursday, June 20 with the prosecution expected to submit its last set of witnesses.
