Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has said that he would be re-elected without hassles, in a blunt response to questions about his political strength, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Mr. Bello said on Friday after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja that perceived internal crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi would not stop his re-election. “I am the governor today and Insha Allah, l will return back as the governor for another four years, after the November 16 election. As for the ticket, the analogy is that the tenant cannot send the landlord out of his house,” Bello boasted. “So, APC in Kogi state was rebuilt by me, after the good job done by our late leader, His Excellency, Alhaji Abubakar Audu. After his demise, l came, rebuilt it from the scratch to what it is today. “That is evident in the last outing of the party where we had 25/25, in the State House of Assembly. We also won 7 out of the 9 contested positions in the House of Representatives and two out of the three Senate seats in the Senate. “So, anybody that is making such noise does not disturb me because, in market place, noise is allowed. You know, Kogi politics is the loudest. So, people must make noise and you can’t stop that.” A vocal critic of Bello, Senator Dino Melaye, recently joined the race for the governorship seat, adding more problems for Bello. The governor, however, appearing unruffled, said he was confident of winning the governorship election with a wide margin. A civil society organization known as Coalition for Nigeria Movement, CNM, has accused ex-Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan of milking the nation’s treasury dry during their tenures, Igbere TV reports. It claimed that the duo, when they held sway as President, turned government funds into ATMs where they, their associates and cronies withdrew money to finance their lifestyles. Speaking at a press conference on Thursday in Abuja, CNM’s National Convener, Mr. Sabo Odeh lamented that under the governments of Obasanjo and Jonathan, Nigerians were almost misled to believe that democracy is synonymous with corruption. He, therefore, recommended that the Federal Government should conduct a comprehensive audit of government funds by probing national finances from 1999 – 2015 so as to bring the ex-leaders to book. The group also opined that Nigerians should declare former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as persona non-grata and not accord either of them any respect either in public places as former presidents or elder statesmen. Text of Sabo’s speech as obtained by Igbere TV reads: “Considering our history of truncated democracy and aborted republics, our successfully keeping at democracy for upwards of two decades is a feat that is worth celebrating, which the country has rightly celebrated. “It is however alarming that there is a pocket of evil people that are saddened by the very fact that Nigeria’s democracy have survived their repeated assault on it, which has made their intentions to abort two decades of continued democracy to fail serially. “So toxic is their bad wish for the country that they are unable to hide their disappointment and anger that the country is on the path of thriving in spite of their willful acts of sabotage against the nation. “These axes of evil have in recent times spoken through two former presidents, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. It is interesting that these are men that Nigerians have the misfortune of enduring as leaders for fourteen out of the twenty years of democratic rule. “These are men under whose administration Nigerians were almost misled to believe that democracy is synonymous with corruption; they presided over fourteen years of the country being parceled out to friends and family – government funds became ATM where they, their associates and cronies withdraw money to finance their debased lifestyles. “There is a long list of national assets that were fraudulently privatized against the interest of the country. Proof that these entities were sold under questionable terms is in the very fact the sectors are being held hostage while the supposed buyers are unable to meet basic benchmarks. “One would have expected that the disgrace of being found to have looted the collective treasury would have forced these men to seek out the path of honour but it appears they are too far gone to the dark side for them to be remorseful. “Instead of finding ways to atone for their sins in the hope that they will one day be considered in the light of legends like MKO Abiola and President Buhari, they have rather resorted to piling more sins on their existing transgressions. Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan have decided to continue assaulting the country on several fronts and in various guises. “We are of the opinion that their resort to attacking the integrity of Nigeria while making it appear as if their target is President Buhari is a strategy to draw attention away from the years of bad governance that they inflicted on Nigerians. “It is a concept of making the current state of affairs appears dismal so that the horrible foundation they had laid for our democracy can be forgiven. “While they are free to attempt exonerating themselves from their misdeeds, what they are not allowed to do is to go about it in a way that further does damage to our body politics. “The utterances of Obasanjo and Jonathan in recent weeks are capable of sparking off ethno-religious crisis in the country because they continue to speak in ways that pitch one section of the country against the other. “They incite Christians against Muslims, they pitch other ethnic nationalities against the Fulani even as they encourage some parts of the country to wallow in victimhood, a situation that has fueled separatist agitations of different shades. “They even went beyond merely making inflammatory and inciting utterances to actually courting foreign support to destabilize Nigeria. “Taken with their recent ugly remarks and posture in the public domain, these subversive actions all point to the fact that Obasanjo and Jonathan not have the interest of the country at heart as erroneously believed in certain quarters. “Let us point out that these evil utterances are not in any way intended to be fair criticism of the government of the day. They are rather intended to make the country fail. “It must be noted that in the era of both men as presidents, they would not tolerate such from anyone as those who criticized them are summarily dealt with. “We must further state that Nigeria is not the property of a few people. The country belongs to us all. A consequence of this is that we must rise up to ward off the attacks by these men and their agents on the long term stability of Nigeria. “They have cornered enough resources to buy citizenship in other countries for themselves and their family members; in order to retain what they have looted they have no qualms about plunging the country into crisis. “Nigerians owe it a duty to protect themselves from these kind of desperate men and any measure necessary to curtail their excesses and stop their evil plans against the country. “Desperate times they say call for desperate measures. Our belief is that the unethical behavior of these two men should be visited with unorthodox responses as a deterrence. “To this end, the Coalition for Nigeria Movement hereby presents a 7-point demand to the Federal Government, which must be met to prove that the present administration is no colluding with Obasanjo and Jonathan to ink the country. Our demands are: “That the Federal Government conduct a comprehensive audit of government funds by probing national finances from 1999 – 2015. “This probe should be with a view to unravel the mysteries surrounding the loss of Nigeria’s resources, which has become imperative to unveil the true identities of those who stole Nigeria blind but are today parading as elder statesmen. “That anyone indicted by the aforementioned investigation should be made to stand trial and handed the stiffest punishment applicable where they are convicted. “This is to serve as deterrent to those that think they can loot the treasury and then assume the roles of critics in order to evade justice. “That the federal government, as another phase of the anti-corruption war, prioritize the recovery of assets that were illegally privatized or sold to family members and associates of Obasanjo and Jonathan. “In addition to recovering the said assets, government should open corruption probe and trials of those that took part in this heinous crime against Nigeria. “That the nation’s anti-graft agencies should get a marching order to trace foreign assets that were illegally acquired using looted funds using international collaboration platform that exist for this purpose. “Countries where assets are domiciled should be encourage to cooperate with Nigeria while the necessary procedure for asset recovery and forfeiture for proceeds of crime should be lodged with those nations to recover that has been stolen from Nigeria. “That henceforth Nigerians should declare former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as persona non-grata and not accord either of them any respect either in public places as former presidents or elder statesmen. “This stance shall persist is until such a time that all the sponsors of terrorism either directly or indirectly are unraveled in the country. “That the Federal Government should henceforth not extend any invitation to state functions to any of Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan for using their positions in the past to enrich themselves and families to the detriment of the common masses of our beloved country. “That the federal government notifies friends and partners of Nigerians to stop further transactions and interactions with both men or risk being enemies of Nigeria. *Countries that continue to hobnob with either men would have proven that they are the international components that are fanning the embers of the security breaches in Nigeria. “That no Nigerian will be harassed, arrested, prosecuted or criminalized for publicly humiliating, insulting or taunting these men for what they have done to Nigeria. “This should be a new approach to treating treasury looters and those that have proven that they are enemies of the country. “The Coalition for Nigeria Movement will not stop at just making these demands but will begin a nationwide mobilization and contact activities to get more Nigerians on board in the quest to properly criminalize the theft of public assets and running subversive activities against the country irrespective of who is involved. “We shall also be mobilizing Nigerians to join us on piling pressure on the government of the day not to shy from its responsibility of defending Nigeria’s democracy against subversive past leaders. “We want Nigerians to remember that it a sacred duty for all of us to ensure that our democracy survives into perpetuity. This is a task that requires that all sentiments are discarded while national interest takes primacy.” Source; http://igberetvnews.com/775478/just-in-former-presidents-obasanjo-jonathan-under-fire-for-allegedly-turning-govt-fund-into-atms/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

UNDER BUHARI, NIGERIA FOR THE FIRST TIME HAS HAUSA/MULSLIM LEADERSHIP OF ALL ARMS OF GOVERNMENT PDP LEGAL ADVISER Barr Emmanuel Enoidem is the PDP Legal Adviser. In this explosive interview, he takes a swipe at the NFIU’s directive on local government financial autonomy, and also how the current leadership structure in the country has negated the constitution. Excerpts: LET’S GO TO THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT SYSTEM IN NIGERIA. THE NATIONAL FINANCIAL INTELLIGENCE UNIT HAS SET OUT ON AUTONOMY FOR LOCAL GOVERNMENTS IN NIGERIA AND YET THE GOVERNORS OF THE THIRTY SIX STATES IN NIGERIA ROSE UP AGAINST THIS. DO YOU THINK THEIR REASONS ARE JUSTIFIABLE? Barr Emmanuel Enoidem Well let me tell you that what is guaranteed for the local government system in Nigeria is a democratically elected local government system. I’m not aware of any law that talks about the financial autonomy of local government because Nigeria is not running a fiscal federation we are running a unitary federation. So the federal government cannot be talking about autonomy for local government because we don’t have autonomy for the state. If we are talking about true autonomy, it will mean that the resources of each state should be owned and managed by each state. Any federal system that does not give full account and recognition of fiscal federation is a contradiction in terms. So the federal government cannot be blowing hot and cold at the same time. They cannot be talking about financial autonomy of local governments without talking about the state autonomy in terms of financial dealing. And as I speak, I am not sure that there is any law in Nigeria apart from the state joint account which is recognized by the constitution so there is no other law in Nigeria that says that local government must have financial autonomy. All I am saying is that let Nigeria as a federation have a full blown federal system which gives account of physical federation because that is the hallmark of every federal system and in that event, it will mean that the local government will be autonomous, independent, and the state and federal government will be independent and will stand alone and unless we have a true fiscal federation in Nigeria, Nigeria cannot develop economically. So I support independence autonomy of the different arms of government when true federalism is implemented in Nigeria but not thinking and choosing what you want to do. Like I said, let us have a law and amend the constitution that state joint account should not exist again because as long as the state joint account still exists, the federal government cannot talk otherwise. AS SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN A LOCAL GOVERNMENT CHAIRMAN, WHAT DO YOU THINK THE CHAIRMEN STAND TO LOSE OF THIS DIRECTIVE BY NIGERIAN FINANCIAL INTELLIGENT UNIT IS IMPLEMENTED BECAUSE THEY THEMSELVES DON’T WANT IT? Like I said, if we have local government autonomy, it will be good for the local government system but as a lawyer, I am telling you that there is nothing that warrants the federal government to insist that there should be local government autonomy. As we speak, there is no law and when we are talking about a system, every system must be bound by law. It is not by somebody making pronouncements or wishes, it is what the law wants and what the position of the law is in the matter and I don’t want to talk outside the law. WHAT IS YOUR REACTION TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND WHAT IS PLAYING OUT? Let me tell you the problem I have with this Buhari’s second term, this is the first time in the history of Nigeria that we are going to have all the heads of Government coming from one region of the country. The President is a Hausa/Fulani, he has already nominated a Hausa /Fulani as the CJN in place of Onnoghen, and a Hausa Fulani as the head of the legislature and of course they are also making a Muslim to be the Number Four citizen of Nigeria. This is the first time we have Hausa/ Fulani or a Muslim occupying all the headship of the arms of government. This is very insensitive to the provision of the Constitution and Nigerians cannot sleep over this. This is someone setting out to destroy the federal character that is entrenched in our constitution, the law is very clear that Nigeria is a circular country. DOES IT REALLY MATTER WHERE THEY COME FROM? It matters a whole lot, especially when you have a President who told the world bank that the development impact of Nigeria must be in the North, we have to educate Nigerians that this is not how leadership should be done, it is critical to continuous wellness of the federation. IS THAT NOT THE MESSAGE YOU SHOULD HAVE PREACHED TO NIGERIANS TO ENSURE THAT YOUR PARTY RECAPTURES POWER, BEFORE NOW? I don’t know what you are talking about we are not in charge of the Federal Government, the point I’m trying to make is that whether in a civilian or military Government, this is the first in the history of Nigeria , it is unreasonable and unconstitution to say the President is coming from the North, the Senate President is coming from the North, the Chief Justice of Nigeria is coming from the north. AT THE MOMENT THE PRESIDENCY HAS MOVED CELEBRATIONS TO JUNE 12 WHICH IS THE ACTUAL DAY FOR DEMOCRACY AND BECAUSE OF THAT EVERY OTHER CELEBRATION WHERE MOVED TO THAT DAY. DO YOU ALSO AGREE WITH THIS? Well I don’t know about June 12 Democracy day that’s what they want and you see the President is the President of Nigeria he can choose to do what he wants to do and also when he wants to celebrate the Democracy day but as far as I’m concerned, there is a difference between June 12 and May 29. The 29th of May is a beginning of a new tenure and new government in the political calendar and there is nothing that anybody can do about it. The constitution will need to be changed before 29th of May can be cancelled. So there is no way they can postpone the 29th of May if they want to declare June 12 as a Democracy day, it is a different ball game entirely but the issues concerning 29th of May cannot be postponed because these are two different calendar dates in the political history of Nigeria so if the president wants to declare June 12, it has nothing to do with 29th of May that has come to stay constitutionally. So we need to put things in perspective and understand that June 12 day is different from 29th of May which is the inauguration of government. DON’T YOU THINK THAT THIS IS AN INDIRECT WAY TO GRADUALLY MOVE 29TH MAY TO JUNE 12 AS AN OFFICIAL DATE OF SWEARING IN? There will be constitutional crisis because what you are trying to say is that there will be a time the government will shift inauguration that is supposed to take place on the 29th of May which is constitutionally recognized will now take place on June 12 in other words between 29th of May to June 12 there will be no government or they have to amend the law to show that one government will come into place and then extend their tenure from 29th day May to June 12 and if that happens that will be constitutional crisis. The point I am making is that the sanctity of the 29th day of May has come to stay and there is nothing anybody can do about it. My candid opinion about June 12 it like somebody is trying to play back politics. We can still remember the fact that we had a free and fair election which I was a part of the election supporting M.K.O Abiola as he were, a lot of people that were part of that process betrayed that election. An example was Ambassador Babagana Kingibe’, who was Abiola’s running mate yet abandoned the mandate before the cock crew but yet he was honoured. For me, that was a major dent on whatever intention the government had about June 12. I am not a fan of June 12 celebration anymore, especially under the guise of the present administration because this is one government that has not been very sincere to Nigerians. SOME OTHER COMMENTS COMING FROM THE PRESIDENCY ESPECIALLY, THE WIFE OF THE PRESIDENT OF RECENT HAS NOT BEEN VERY PALATABLE ON THE ISSUES OF SECURITY, WHERE HE SAID IF SECURITY ISSUES ARE NOT TACKLED, EVERYBODY WOULD BE KILLED? She’s not just talking about in insecurity, she has an active conscience. For me that woman is the conscience of the government of President Buhari because at every point in time she couldn’t bear the pains that the country is passing through, she couldn’t bear the insincerity the government is demonstrating , she couldn’t bear the destruction in the system. She’s not just talking about the insecurities, she is also talking about the corruption in the present sector and also the cabal running the government. She is also very much alive to the short comings of the government and has tried to speak openly against this government and the limitations in this particular government. As for me I see her as someone that is very sincere to Nigerians, sincere to her husband, and to the government but they will not listen because sincerity is not part of the government. ARE YOU NOT ALSO SURPRISED THAT THE AREAS WHERE THIS INSECURITIES ARE RECORDED IN HIGH SCALE, LIKE KASTINA STATE, ZAMFARA STATE, YOMBE STATE AND BURNO STATE ARE EVEN THE AREAS MR. PRESIDENT HAD BASKET FULL OF VOTES? That shows, that there was actually no election. For instance, in Zamfara State, there is no way you would go to the state on the day of election and expect the people of Zamfara to vote for the APC. In Yobe, bombs were being dropped to the extent that even their state governor could not vote. In Borno, the headquarters of insecurity, not less than eighty percent votes were given to the APc. This is very inconsistent with reality. BUT YOU WERE NOT THERE? Even though I was not there, we had statistics and intelligence from those areas. We saw pictures of what happened, a lady was voting for thousands of people in Yobe state. Don’t forget that the world is a global village on account of technology so we have all these details. The insecurity is not just about the elections, take a look at the concentration of security being practiced in the North this is the first time in the history of Nigeria whether civilian or military government that one person is appointing more than eighty seven percent of the security chiefs from one section of the country and as God will have it this is the only section in the country today that is enveloped by insecurities of monumental dimensions to the extent that even the village of the President is now under serious trait. So it shows that God is not a man because otherwise it would have been the south that would have experience this level of insecurity. Also, the appointment of security chiefs in Nigeria is not credible, the right people are not appointed to mount the security apparatus in the country. ARE YOU SAYING THAT WHERE SOMEBODY COMES FROM HAS A ROLE TO PLAY IN HOW HE TACKLES INSECURITY? If you cannot protect your home then you have no business talking about security. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE VICTORY OF YOUR PARTY IN ZAMFARA STATE THROUGH THE INSTRUMENTATION OF THE JUDICIARY ARM OF GOVERNMENT Well it is good but you see what happened in Zamfara state is victory for Democracy and also trial for internal running of government. It a big lesson for politicians not just of the APC but even to other political party including my own party {PDP}. We have tried as a current leadership of PDP in the country to ensure that we do not take internal Democracy management lightly. We had tried to be as fair as possible in the running of our primaries during the last elections, but what happened in Zamfara state and in Rivers state came to the peak bringing a big lesson to some politicians and managers of some political parties. When you are dealing with Democracy it begins from the internal management of the nomination process which is called pre-elections or primaries of political party. It is very important that the election of the political party officers must be rooted in internal democratic processes that will ensure fairness, credibility and transparency in the process. So what happened on the 24th of May at the Supreme Court of Nigeria is a major victory for democracy in Nigeria and I thank God that it happened. YOU ARE EXTOLLING THE JUDICIARY IN THESE CASE AND YOU ARE ALSO IN COURT CONCERNING THE JUST CONCLUDED PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS. IF THE DECISION OF THE JUDICIARY ALSO GOES AGAINST YOUR PARTY, WILL YOU ALSO EULOGISE THE JUDICIARY? If you have a judgement against you and you see the reasoning of the court, and it’s in line with the internal principles of law on those issues then of course you won’t have any problem as a lawyer and I will take it in good fate but when you have a judgement that is confronting the legal principles that have been established over the years then you will say that these judgement was not fair and anybody can say this. So it is not about me, it is about what justice was served. These are the legal parameters that every judgement must be examined but I don’t want to be too personal on this so when we get to the bridge we will cross the river. But so far so good I want to commend the courage of the judiciary for standing by the law and then promoting democratic principles and tenets in Nigeria and I am hoping that it will continue like that. On Monday, June 10, 2019, the Senator, who represented Akwa Ibom north-west district in the 8th National Assembly, Godswill Akpabio, watched appalled as Mr. Usen, one of his witnesses, admitted that there was no accreditation in polling units in the ward where he was a collation agent, Igbere TV reports. The Senator who on Monday for the first time since the National Assembly Petition Tribunal began sitting appeared at the court was opportune to be briefed through the prehearing report of the tribunal, which marked the end of the prehearing session and commencement of trial. Mr. Usen, who claimed to be a Chieftain of the ruling APC and 2019 elections ward collating officer in Essien Udim Local Government Area, affirmed that the box designed for accreditation of voters was not ticked on result sheets shown to him by INEC, which means there was no accreditation in seven polling units, leading to cancellation of elections in those units. On further prompting the witness responded that voters’ registers and card readers are tools for accreditation, and explained that where the card reader fails, accreditation are usually done manually. The witness who was up to testify that INEC was not justified in cancelling the results from the units, also told the tribunal that card readers malfunctioned in various polling units in his area. Taking the floor, Barr. Emukporueo, representing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and two other officials of the Commission joined as respondents, asked if the witness is aware that results of seven units were cancelled in his ward, but got a negative reply. Barr. Emukporoeu craved the indulgence of the tribunal to put it to the witness, that the results which led to the cancellation of seven polling units in his ward are completely inconsistent and not a product of the voters’ registers which were marked as exhibits R2, R4, R5, R7, R8, R11. The Counsel to the petitioner, Barr. Ameh’s made futile attempts to save his witness who was apparently running out of explanations on how the exhibit, did not indicate accreditation of voters. Ameh argued before the tribunal that the witness is not the maker of the documents and the function of the voters’ registers are for the polling units, stressing that his witness was a ward agent. Barr. Emukporueo urged the tribunal to overrule the objection of his colleague as the questions were reactions to the words of the witness himself, who said that card readers malfunctioned and accreditation was done manually, thus opening himself to questions concerning the voters’ registers. He referred the tribunal to section 222 of the evidence act, and held that the witness got questions within the confines of the evidence act, to test his credibility and would be unfair to INEC to be stopped from asking their questions. He finally submitted that it is a life and critical issue to ask if there was accreditation and election, adding that there was no election because election is a process, which starts with accreditation. He also held that materials were hijacked, while ad-hoc staffs were kidnapped and abducted. The tribunal, after listening to arguments of all the parties, ruled that the witness should answer the questions directed to him, as they are all in line with Section 295(2) of the evidence act. The tribunal accordingly adjourned to Friday, June 14 , 2019. http://igberetvnews.com/760435/2019-senate-akpabio-watches-as-witness-fumbles-in-tribunal/

On Monday, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, the former Senator who represents Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District, caused a gridlock on the passage to the Akwa Ibom State Government House, as he marched with his supporters numbering over 50 along Wellington Bassey Way amidst the echoes of drums and trumpets, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV learnt that Akpabio was in the Akwa Ibom High Court situated in the state capital, Uyo, for the first time as petitioner to witness the commencement of hearing at the National Assembly Petitions Tribunal. Following the conclusion of the day’s hearing at the Tribunal, Akpabio mobilized a brass band and marched with his APC members to the Globe Square on Wellington Bassey Way, which is usually used by Governor Udom Emmanuel to address the people of the state. Amidst the jam, the former Governor danced to the tune of the drummers and assured his supporters that he had all it takes to reclaim power from the Senator – Elect, Chris Ekpenyong. Vehicles in the convoy of the former Governor, and buses carrying his supporters, were used to block the road while the former Senator addressed the people. Surprisingly, Akpabio was largely ignored by security operatives, meant to prevent a breach of traffic flow by workers and guests to the State Government House for over 20minutes. Akpabio, it would be recalled, had few days ago petitioned the President of the Court of Appeal, praying for the relocation of the Tribunal from Uyo to Abuja. The petition dated May 20, 2019, signed by Akpabio’s lawyer ,S. I. Ameh(SAN), Senator Akpabio alleged that there was intimidation of his witnesses by the respondents, adding that his supporters and witnesses were allegedly attacked and prevented from gaining access to the tribunal. This petition is said to have contradicted the realities on ground, as there has not been any reported case of a misunderstanding between parties in the tribunal, let alone a fight being recorded. Akpabio’s query of proximity between the tribunal location and the State Government House, also defied logic, as the tribunal was making use of the State High Court building, which previous tribunals had always used. Monday’s carnival march on the road, few meters from Government House Gates, has been seen as an attempt to draw the irk of security agents and PDP supporters who would have possibly tried to oppose the noisy march and security breach by the APC members. Earlier, at the commencement of hearing at the tribunal, two witnesses Usen who claimed to be a ward collation agent of APC and Ndifreke Idung, an APC chieftain, both from Ikot Ekpene local government area were invited by the Petitioner. For the petitioner were S. I. Ameh, SAN, Adekunle Oyesanya, SAN, I O Peters, Patrick Umoh, Emmanuel Udosen, and Monday O. Obani. The First Respondent was represented by Samuel Ikpo, Esq, A Asuquo, Edidiong Usungurua, and Aniedi Abotti. The second respondent had in representation, Solomon Umoh, SAN, N. D. Gwaison, E. O. Oyadigi, N. M. Nyelong, and M. P. Ofo. The 3rd – 5th Respondents had as their representatives, Robert Emukpoeruo. At the last adjourned date last Friday, the parties had completed their submissions on the pre-trial conference and the proceedings on Monday commenced with the reading of the Pre-Hearing report. The Tribunal consequently cautioned counsel to cooperate with them as they do not have the capacity to extend the period of the tribunal, even if all counsel agreed that it should be extended. Chairman, Senate Committe on Appropriations, Senator Danjuma Goje, has endorsed the candidacy of Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu for Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that Goje, a top contender for the Senate Presidency, had withdrawn from the race following a meeting he had with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa, Abuja. The endorsement of Kalu, Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, came at a meeting between the two leaders at the nation’s capital, Abuja. Also at the meeting was Senator Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi State. Speaking at the end of the meeting, Goje, former Gombe governor, said there was the need to give all region sense of belonging in the Ninth Assembly. He argued that his move was in the best interest of the country, while calling on lawmakers-elect to queue behind Kalu and elect him as Deputy Senate President on Tuesday, June 11. He specifically called on former governors at the Senate not to abandon their colleague, Kalu, whom he described as a go-getter. Goje said, “For the sake of fairness and equity, the APC NWC must look in the direction of the South East for the position of Deputy Senate President, to correct the imbalance in leadership positions. “The 9th Senate needs a man who could tame and douse ethnic tensions through his dexterous style of leadership. Dr. Orji Kalu has long proven to be the right man for the seat as a former governor of Abia State whose outstanding achievements in the state and beyond speak volumes till date. “Above all, he (Kalu) is a man of integrity and a passionate leader whose love for the party (APC) and the development of this country is immeasurable going by his antecedents. He has sacrificed enough for our party and deserves the DSP seat.” I will Emerge Deputy Senate President, Vows Kalu In a related development, Dr. Orji Kalu has said he would emerge the Deputy Senate President of the 9th Senate, insisting that he was still very much in the race. Kalu, who spoke on the backdrop of the purported endorsement of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege by the APC National Working Committe, said he is not moved by the development, adding that it was the handiwork of some selfish elements in the APC who are self-serving and desperate to cause disharmony among party stakeholders. The former governor who hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari did not endorse any candidate for the Deputy Senate Presidency, however stressed that as a staunch supporter of Buhari and a loyal and committed member of the APC, he (Kalu) would always abide by the decisions of the President and highly respected members of the NWC. “I hold the President in high esteem as well as the National Chairman of our great party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and other members of the NWC and as such, I will not disobey any formal pronouncement by them. “However, I am still in the race to become Deputy Senate President because the President and the NWC have not adopted any candidate and as such the contest is open to all members of the party, who have the capability. “I have the political dexterity, leadership qualities and goodwill to complement the efforts of the Senate President in actualising the objectives of the legislature to support the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari in taking Nigeria to greater heights. “Leadership positions in the 9th Senate should be given to people who have the will to support the agenda of the APC while not deviating from the ideals of democracy. “As I continue to mobilise support for the position of Deputy Senate President, I commend the President, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and other stakeholders of the party for their support. “Come tomorrow by the special grace of God and to the admiration of APC members and Nigerians at large, I will emerge as Deputy Senate President in the 9th National Assembly”, he said. While appealing to the leadership of the APC to give a level-playing ground for all contenders for the position of Deputy Senate President, who are APC members, Kalu maintained that he is still in the race except otherwise advised by the President or the party’s highest decision-making body. “Only Lawan and Gbaja Have APC’s Endorsement”, APC Govs Forum Counters Issa-Onilu The governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have said it only endorsed the candidacy of Senate Leader, Ahmad Lawan, and Leader of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, for the ninth National Assembly leadership, Igbere TV reports The governors, under the aegis of Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) made this known to newsmen after its inaugural meeting on Sunday night at the Kebbi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. Former presidential candidate, Oby Ezekwesili, has attacked the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC) after it suspended the license of Daar Communications Plc., owners of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that NBC Director-General, Modibbo Kawu, announcing the suspension on Thursday, said the action was taken for failure of the broadcasting station to abide by the broadcasting code. Nigerians have appeared unimpressed with the sanction, calling it an attack on the media. Ezekwesili, a former education minister, said on Friday via Twitter with an attached copy of NBC sanction letter to AIT, that the commission wants AIT to be like the state-owned Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in its approach to matters concerning the government. “My Summary of this lengthy Sanctions letter from NBC to AIT is simply this: ‘We have warned you several times in the past to stop broadcasting things that upset the Government and NBC. You refused to listen. Now we shall shut you up and down until you are ready to be like NTA’. “There is nothing in that letter from NBC to AIT that reaches the threshold for withdrawal of license and shut down of a Media house that we all know Government perceives as an ‘Opposition media’. Wisdom should have actually instructed the FG against striking out at them,” she said. Source; http://igberetvnews.com/753572/just-in-oby-ezekwesili-reacts-says-nbc-wants-ait-to-be-like-nta/

Senator Obinna Ogba has praised late military dictator, Sani Abacha, and likened his leadership style to that of the outgoing Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Igbere TV reports. Igbere TV reports that the senator who represents Ebonyi Central under the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said this in his valedictory speech on Thursday. Reports about Abacha’s alleged loot of £211,000,000 (N96,166,359,421.95) in Channel Islands through the US became public knowledge on Tuesday. Mr Ogba first criticised his colleagues for their display of ethnic sentiments in the Senate. The Senator subsequently thanked the presiding officer, Ike Ekweremadu, and Saraki. “Mr President I want to thank the leadership of the Senate, particularly Senator Bukola Saraki and your humble self, Dr Ike Ekweremadu. “I am one of those who believe that many people can say what they like but Sani Abacha is a president that we have never seen. You may like it, you may not like it but I will liken Saraki leadership to that of Abacha,” Ogba said. “Abacha is a very good man, no matter what they are saying about him. People are condemning him today are worse. Things that he did not do but time shall tell. During Abacha we don’t have security problem like this and so many things the man did. “Wherever the man is, God will continue to bless him. He is the one that gave us Ebonyi State. God will continue to bless him and you too (Saraki).” Source; http://igberetvnews.com/751365/just-in-abacha-was-a-very-good-man-ebonyi-pdp-senator-says/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique

As the November governorship election in Kogi State draws near, the opposition People’s Democratic Party in the state has continued to implode under the weight of internal wrangling, Igbere TV reports. The latest, Igbere TV report that is coming from the camp of the immediate past Governor, Idris Wada, whose camp have been locked in war of words against the Senator Dino Melaye camp. All hell broke lose recently when the Senator declared his intention to run for the Kogi top job in the Lugard House. One of the stunch supporters of the Wada camp Ojonimi Abdullahi on Wednesday in a Facebook post he titled; “Appeal to Aspirants, described Wada as the candidate that needed no introduction as a former governor of the state and urged the PDP to give him the ticket to challenge the Yahaya Bello in November. He went further to describe Senator Dino as a man who is only famous on social media, known for negative attributes. “For Senator Dino, he is a future Governor of the state when the electorate need a singing and dancing Governor, after all Ukraine just elected a comedian as President and a former WWE wrestler was a Governor of a state in US in the nineties.” Here is the full post by Ojonimi Abdullahi; "APPEAL TO ASPIRANTS. I wish to appeal to all aspirants for the governorship ticket under PDP in the November election in Kogi state. I am aware that over 30 candidates from the East and 1 from the West for now have shown interest and preparing for the primary. These candidates are all eminently qualified to be Governor as provided by the constitution. The questions the PDP members from my constituency (central) and west are asking are –who is this person?, where is he coming from?, what’s his experience in governance? etc. The party has no luxury of time to start to introduce or market individuals. The candidate the members know is Capt. Wada without any introduction, being the former Governor of the state. They also know Senator Dino through social media but with negative attributes. I can see many future Governors in many of you aspirants. For Senator Dino, he is a future Governor of the state when the electorate need a singing and dancing Governor, after all Ukraine just elected a comedian as President and a former WWE wrestler was a Governor of a state in US in the nineties. There is an adage in Ebira which says “It is a person who has the knowledge of the shrine that sent by the community to perform the sacrifice.” The PDP community should present Capt Wada for the governorship contest because of his experience and previous performance when he was Governor. In addition Capt. Wada is the candidate whose previous performance can be compared to that of the present Gov Yahaya Bello and APC. The campaign issues in November election include: good governance, security, education, health, salary of civil servants, tourism, experience, maturity. character etc. These are issues that will be canvassed and this is where comparison comes in between Capt. Wada and GYB and APC financially agree that Capt. Wada will come top on all issues. Kogi state is not a Guinea pig and PDP can’t afford to experiment with this election. Impositions, manipulation, and gambling will not be good for us and the party. Also the governorship ticket is not for sale to the highest bidder. Finally, I appeal to all aspirants to support the candidacy of Capt.Wada morally and financially to win the election for all of us. Your future will be assured. Happy Sallah."
