Kirinwa: Dyt. It's all about attitude.I have nothing against the girl wanting good things. It's just her attitude.Like it's either this or never kind of girl. The truth is that I can spend much more for a girl I truly love and desire if I know she's an asset worth having but telling me to buy her an engagement ring worth 3 months of my sweat even before I propose may make me think twice about her. Na Jazz?So you just said you will only spend on your girl if you know she's an asset? You think it's okay to think that way? Lol. I pity the women that will marry you! Lol |

Na Jazz? She shouldn't have to tell you. You should know. It's automatic. I don't have to tell my man, he KNOWS! |
@Op, maybe you want and expensive ring. You can want anything but it's not ur decision to make but man's who is asking you to marry him. By the time u're so in love, trust me the cost of the ring won't matter. That by the side. I think silver or platinum is classy. I would like to get my wife a classy ring. I dnt knw ow much this things cost but being the kind of person I am with a high taste, the ring is bound to be averagely expensive. I prefer to draw out of money meant for the wedding ceremony to get a classy ring. The ring is permanent bt the wedding ceremony is not. And yes I can save for a ring too.
Hello! FINALLY a real man! Thank you for being honest. I agree with you, but the reason I want to choose my own ring is: 1) I want to make sure I like. I wouldn't want my babe to spend thousands of dollars on a ring I don't like. Most of my friends picked their own too. Unless you know your girl's taste very well & you are SURE she will like it, go ahead and buy. Also, I agree it's okay to save money to get your significant other a gift. There is NOTHING wrong with that. I can tell you are romantic, your woman is definitely a lucky one! |
I am DONE arguing with you all. I should have expected this reaction from you all. If I came in here and said something in the tune of "I love broke men" I am sure I would have been the forum's favorite gal. If you are looking for someone to stroke your ego -- it ain't gonna be me. I TELL it like it is! I am saying what every woman is thinking. NO woman wants a raggedy engagement ring. As I mentioned earlier we all aim HIGH, some get there and others settle. It's NOT just in relationships/love but in everything -- even careers/education. I am being honest with YOU and myself. Half the people married these days aren't happy in their marriage. Go FIGURE!!! |
SniperInADiaper: No! She just "knows her worth"Yes mam! |
jmoore: 100% of his salary for three months because of engagement ring. Are u a scammer?I heard in some cases in can be month's salary. It all depends. I prefer the 3-months though. Oh, and to answer your question, no I am not a scammer. |
Dyt: AwwwLol. :-) |
Acidosis: 1. In some churches here in Nigeria, couples and intending couples do not use rings (wedding or engagement). They don't believe in rings... Joining is done with a Bible and not a ring... Now don't tell me they are poorThe $15, 000 was just an example I gave. I said for instance if he makes 5, 000 a month, it will be 15, 000. I was trying to elaborate on the 3-month salary tradition. If you make N300/month then it should be N900. Simple as that! |
adconline: When was the last time u gave urself a $15k gift? Should u not love urself more?I don't just spend money on myself. I spoil my friends and family too. The last time I spent LOTS of money, I paid for a trip with my 3 friends to Ibiza. We were there for about 10 days. I also give 10% to God. As I mentioned earlier, I am able to buy whatever I want. My man is the most spoiled man. I treat him like a KING & he knows that. This discussion was supposed to be about engagement rings -- I am shocked to see how you have all attacked my personal life. It's also sad to see how many of you tried to assassinate my character. |
Orpelin: I'm loving thisI have already settled down. I am in a committed relationship with a man I LOVE very much. We are ready to take it to the next step. He will get me the ring of my dreams because he says I deserve it. I couldn't be happier. |
2goodbobo: Is obvious that you a one lil arrogant spoilt brat who does not want to wake up to reality. Simply because you are born with silver spoon in your mouth does not mean you must be treated as such by a Man. What if you were not born into a rich family, would have ask for a ring that is worth 15,000 dollars? There's a quote that says "we are products of our surroundings" If I didn't come from a rich family my thoughts may have been different -- but that's not guaranteed. My preference remains what it is. Wanting a gorgeous engagement ring has NOTHING to do with what kind of family I come from. Every person has the right to go after what they want -- most settle for what is available others don't. Life is NOT fair. |
jmoore: Anyone can claim to be Bill Gates child in an anonymous forumThe only reason I showed attitude is because you lot tried to crucify me for wanting an expensive ring. You lot REALLY need to get out more. In 2013, I don't know any girl who owns an engagement ring that is less than $5,000. Maybe you all do, BUT I don't. That's why I am saying you need to get out more. You are too stuck in your little world. Wanting a big diamond isn't fairy tale anymore, it's REALITY. |
Acidosis: I'm tired of hearing/seeing half this & that!Dad proposed to mom in Congo -- they met at school. Dad was visiting a friend who was a prof there and mom was a student. |
adconline: Fairy tales continue! One of those stories where ur parents were superhumans and years ahead of their peers. They always came on top in all their endeavors until adulthood caught up with them.. LolMy parents aren't super humans. My grandpa was a judge. He had money too. My dad worked hard --earned everything he has. I am a hard worker too. I am not a spoiled brat. I have a job and work my BUTT off because I want to be like my dad and grandpa one day! My mom is a stay at home mom -- and that's NOT something I want. If I was a gold digger, I would sit home and just marry a rich man. I actually WORK! |
Acidosis: I'm tired of hearing/seeing half this & that!My DAD is Chinese and my mom is Congolese. |
jmoore: thats why I said you need to grow up, liar liar!I am a liar? So you know my life? I don't mean to sound arrogant, but I come from a rich family. I am surprised you lot are so shocked at the fact that I want a $15, 000 ring when some of my friends have gotten $25, 000 dollar rings. I REALLY wonder what you would think of them! Listen if the man can afford it, WHAT'S YOUR PROBLEM? |
Acidosis: I want to believe your above 23years..I am 22 years old -- I am half Chinese and half Congolese. |
2goodbobo: When all fingers are pointing to you, then their is something wrong. Nobody is saying you should not get what you want, but learn to be considerate. What if he can't afford such amount of ring? What if he wakes up one morning and give you a ring that is not worth the amount you wanted? What will you do? Will you reject it?My dad gives my mom everything she wants. My dad has always treated me like a princess. I expect my man to do the same. As I mentioned earlier, "right topic, wrong crowd" -- it's that simple. |
jmoore: "fairy tale principles"My father spent $35, 000 on my mother's engagement ring. Any more questions? I'll wait. |
Idowuogbo: Yeah yeah! Even beggars would come online and claim dey own Bar-beach. Na2day?Sure. But I'm not one of them. I'm a career woman. I have a great job & can afford about anything. Nice try though. |
Truckpusher: if your man is ok with the whole idea of spending his hard earned three month salary on engagement ring only ,then go ahead but lemme assure you that the day he loses his financial security and things didn't change for good for a very long time, he'll despise you........truth is no sane man respects a woman that makes him spend unesscearily no matter how rich he is.I spend $300/week for mani/pedi of my OWN money. I have a very good JOB. Once AGAIN this was just about engagement rings. Damn! |
Sweetlemon: E eya!Thank you! I agree with you. Just to make another point I have my own money. I can buy anything for myself. I was just refering to wanting a gorgeous engagement ring from my man. If it wasn't for engagement purposes I could very well purchase it myself. |
Kirinwa: No No No.It's not about wrong crowd. Are you trying to say that because we don't agree with you we're wrong crowd? You even used the word villagers to address us earlier. If I told a person who's struggling to feed himself or his family I spend $300/week on manicure & pedicure, they too would feel insulted. So of course the "crowd" has everything to do with it. Anyways, I wouldn't force anyone live outside of their means. I was just stating my opinion. My engagement ring should cost 3months worth of salary. Just principles. A grown man won't have an issue with it. |
Kirinwa: No No No.It's not about wrong crowd. Are you trying to say that because we don't agree with you we're wrong crowd? You even used the word villagers to address us earlier. For starters, I don't need other women to back me up. Secondly, what does wanting a beautiful/expensive engagement ring have to do with maturity? Last but not least, yes it's all about the crowd. The way you all reacted to my sentiments--especially the men, gives me a great understanding of what kind of crowd I'm dealing with. Some of you took great offence to my opinion and even insulted me. That just says it all. |
yuzedo: Reading back on your comments, replies and tone, I do commend your maturity and coolness, not resorting to insults or defensive, cagey, uncouth and ratchety behaviour shows you might really have some class and intelligence. At the end of the day I spend just as much money on my man. I guess I raised the right topic for the wrong crowd. Cheers |
Not a racist but something along that line. Same way I would call someone who chooses not to date black people racist
I choose not to date white men. So this means I'm racist? NO. Preference is NOT racism. |
sexlog: You are an iidiot!Tell them why you mad son! |
yuzedo: Bia, you dis foolish geh with your wicked message, you dey sell ring? Na market you dey market your business so?!All this venom because I said I want an expensive ring? I'm allowed to have taste right? To each his own. |
SniperInADiaper: I recall something along the lines of you not dating guys who wouldnt be able to afford such.. so yes.. You are a gold digger. Truth hurts right? It's called a preference. What will you call a man who prefers dating light skin girls? a racist? |
So far this is what I've gathered -- there are a lot of broke bitter people on this forum. I honestly can't understand why people would get mad 'cause someone said they want an expensive engagement ring. |
micheall36: I pity any dude thats gonna marry u gurl, Real sucker for a wife thats what u are, dahm!!!....have read all ur comments and how u jump on any one who go against ur wish, ur even saying you dont mind if the guy wear a 1k ring as long as yours is expensive, can u see how selfish ur dahm asss is?..... i pray ur bf read this and give u a big boot!!!!...... |
DnigerianPrince: @opYou see? Making assumptions is not good. What makes you believe I am single? BTW, some people are single by choice. Don't assume. :-) |

The general overseer Pastor is rich enough to buy the whole of Congo...
