Both my husband and I are going to be financing our wedding. I didn't say I wanted an expensive wedding. I want a nice intimate meaningful wedding ceremony. I just want a gorgeous engagement ring. Is that too much to ask for?

I am very happy with my wife right now and our engagement ring cost me N75,000.00 (less than $500.00), which I had to bear even when I didn't have a job. Like say she dey wait for N1.5m engagement ring, she for still dey her papa house. Anyways, I got a better job (twice as much as I was earning when I was with IBPLC) the day after our wedding and we are happy.

I am a very hard working and educated women. Wanting an expensive ring has NOTHING to do with my worth ethic or my capacity to lead a household. :-)

Well that's you. To each his own. A trip to SA or the Bahamas will last 5-7 days. I rather spend more on something I will wear for the rest of my life. It's the same as people who spend 24, 000 on a purse. If they can afford it, why not? If you can't afford it -- that's also understandable.

oyinbogirl: Common sense tells us A ring does not need to be expensive to be beautiful. 3 months salary is old school now! Buy within your budget, there will be plenty expenses come later to which that money could be better used on. Even using it towards/for a business makes way more sense.

I just don't see why a man wouldn't want to propose by giving his future wife a beautiful ring. If he can't afford it -- that's understandble. But, I don't plan on marrying a man who is incapable of giving me what I need/want.

The man's ring doesn't need to extravagant. The man can spend $1, 000 on his ring if he wishes. BTW, for all the village people commenting, normally the engagement ring is MORE expansive than the wedding ring. That is tradition. The wedding ring is just a regular wedding band.

A ring that will last a few months? These days people wear their engagement rings along with their wedding band. This means it will be on her finger until death do you apart.

2bosun: Only a dumb man will spend his 3-month salary on an engagement ring is this day and age. Sorry to break it to you love, you're living in a fool's paradise. The Mrs' engagament ring cost a lot but definitely not my 3 month salary; there are things much more important that an engagement ring.

How am I living a fool's paradise? In this day and age people are spending thousands on engagement rings. This may not be an opion for you due to your financial standing, but don't discourage those who can afford it.

topup: I actually don't think you have to wear it forever, at least it's not as dramatic as that. People have their engagement rings altered, ammended, embellished and further customised all the time. For example, after 10 years for your anniversary you may want extra stones, or stones for each child, or a new engraved word/name. It really isn't the end of the world if your hubby to be is a humble man and can only afford a humble ring. We ladies need to work on building our self-esteem so that our worth is not defined by the price and worth of objects given to us. I would rather use the money to put down a deposit for a house or wedding than a ring. As long as I can deal with the loose comments from ignorant friends/relatives about the size of the ring and I am happy with it, that's all I care about..

To each his own. But, women like you are the first ones to envy women who get nice/expensive gifts from their husbands. I'm simply being honest by saying I want a beautiful ring. I'm not an hypocrite.

As I mentioned above, in most cases the woman's ring should amount to 3 months worth of salary. I don't see an issue with a man saving up 3 months salary to buy the love of his life a beautiful ring. At the end of the day, these are the moments we will cherish and remember. It's all part of ROMANCE.

This is not what the conversation is about. If a man can afford to buy his girl a $15, 000 ring, what's your problem? I know marriage requires a significant amount of work and planning, but this is not what the topic is about. What is wrong with a woman wanting a gorgeous engagement ring? We only live once. I agree. But, he doesn't necessarily have to make $5, 000/month. He could make less, but has to be willing to save money for it. I know a guy who didn't make that much but saved up $20, 000 to buy his girl a ring. It is something she will have to wear for a lifetime -- might as well make it beautiful. I agree there's more to marriage than flasy engagement rings, BUT having a beautiful ring is a GREAT feeling & NO woman can deny that.

A Colleague and I were discussing this topic & she said that normally an engagement ring should amount up to 3 months worth of salary. So if the man makes $5, 000/month, it should be $15, 000. I agree with her, after all it's a ring a woman wears for the REST of her life. It has to be a ring she loves. Men these days are just too cheap. The person who said Omotola is a better actress than Halle Berry is crazy! Omotola wouldn't be able to land a significant part on a Hollywood Movie even if the role was a "housegirl." She is a good actress based on Nollywood standards, which we all know is very low.

"There’s nothing alarming about giving your daughter or granddaughter a bath. But add on an Instagram photo shoot and a shared bathtub between an adult and a child, and you’ll start to raise some eyebrows.

That was the case when a photo was posted on Bishop Larry Trotter’s Instagram page in which he appeared to be naked, or atleast topless, in the bath alongside his granddaughter. Many on the internet reacted with outrage, claiming that bath time should be between a man and his wife and taking bath with other females in one’s family is inappropriate. Some even went as far to call the Bishop “disgusting” and “sick.”

The senior pastor of mega-church Sweet Holy Spirit Church in Chicago, Illinois, did not take the accusations of impropriety lightly. He appeared on the John Hannah Morning Show, saying that he and his granddaughter, who is four years of age, both had on swim trunks and her mother was present during the small five-minute window in which the little girl was in the tub. He also maintains another family member uploaded the photo to his account. He said the backlash has made the last couple of days a “dark” and “hurtful” time for him.

Though the Bishop admits the picture was “unwise,” he says it was not uncommon to share bathwater when he was growing up. And he thinks it is awful that the picture has been interpreted in such a negative way: “I’m not ashamed of what I did. I am ashamed and hurt that it is going out all over the world and people have called me everything from a child molestor to a to a narsty old man and how I should get out of the ministry – the vulgarity has been terrible.”

I've bought ear-plugs, go buy ya own too because the bragging is gonna be very painful to the ears lol.

LOL. That's so true. What amazes me is how the producers of the movie skipped all the "talented" actors/actresses in Nollywood for a former street child with no acting experience. This should be a wake up call for Nollywood.

My issue with Nollywood is that they refuse to improve. Big actors/actresses like Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Will Smith (and more), still take classes to improve their craft. In Hollywood even big time actors audition for roles, producers need to make sure they fit the role. Nollywood has received a bit of success & they think they are the best now. They have a LONG way to go!

Those of you saying you don't care about Nigerian actors being at the oscars are LIARS. Hollywood is the "Mecca" of film making. EVERY actor dreams of making it there!

Rachel got there -- that's a HUGE accomplishment. The movie got nominated because of her! The performance of the actors makes the movie!
