Foremost, my daughter would be raised reasonably such that would quit a relationship the moment a guy raises his hand on her. If she quit the relationship, the guy wouldn't be fond of beating her.

From the above, obviously, I would have no part to play.
Peradventure it happens, I'll even beat my daughter for being unreasonable in dating a guy that beats her up and also for disturbing my peace when she is suppose to know what to do
Excellent. The father's irresponsible approach has shown that he was/is a tout and as such, couldn't have been able to raise a responsible family. This is further justified with the son accompanying him to a primitive mission. What a mockery to fatherhood!

I think the explanation seems plausible, it will take the EFCC to properly investigate these claims and determine if there is any case to answer. The fact that Buratai declared the houses in his assets declaration clearly shows he was in the very least acting transparently.
I pity Buhari in this corruption fight. This is because while I believe that he is very sincere, the challenge of finding clean incorruptible people to function with him is such a herculean task in Nigeria, given almost all qualified persons are corrupt and irredeemably so.

Looking at this allegation at hand, it is very unlikely that a Nigerian Army officer can save as much money from salary and allowances, except he wants to tell us that he has other businesses alongside his military job.

Again, the fact that Burutai kept mute on this issue is even more disturbing. More so, the Nigeria Army speaking in defence of Burutai is even more suspicious than his inexplicable silence. NA is not Burutai and Burutai is not NA.

One thing makes the press release from the Nigerian Army absolutely unacceptable and that is the possibility of Burutai denying some of the contents on the basis that he never authorized the statements neither did they emanate from him as a person. This was exactly how Buhari defended himself on the many mischievous promises by APC of making dollar at par with naira etc------saying he never said so neither was he aware of the unrealistic promises.

And the Nigerian Army that is denying that Burutai doesn't have an account in Skye Bank either as an individual, joint signatory or body corporate should not forget that Nigerians work in that bank and can verify that claim.

Properties › Re: Vacating A House Before Tenancy Expires, Do You Get A Refund? by histemple: 1:11pm On Jun 25, 2016
azpekuliar:
Thank you for your contribution. Indeed according to the law (The Lagos State Tenancy Law for the purpose of this discussion) there is no section that states that a tenant is entitled to a refund of the unexpired term. It is a contractual thing between the landlord and the tenant.

However, I do not understand the part of your post where you say the landlord is not entitled to any payment (rent) from the tenant for a period having issued the tenant a Notice to Quit. I will like you to shed more light on this.
Thank you. I was referring to a general application of tenancy laws as regards determination of tenancy, but since you are apparently in Lagos State, let me answer you accordingly.

First, there is a distortion in certain sections of the amended Lagos State Tenancy Law 2015. For example, chapter 4 says it is unlawful and punishable for a landlord to demand a tenancy payment of more than 3months, just as it is for a tenant to pay such.

Based on the foregoing, you can't even approach the court if you are not a quarterly tenant.

But chapter 7, section 12 (d & e) went further to discuss length of quit notice bothering on half and yearly tenancy. This is the vague distortion.

Now to answer your question directly, the proper thing to do is for the landlord to issue a quit notice that will elapse upon the expiration of your rent. Otherwise any quit notice given upon the expiration of your rent, the landlord will not be entitled to any payment for the period covered by law (refer to chapter 7 section 12). Except he/she can prove that you were in arrears for certain period before the notice.

What this means is if your rent has expired and you didn't renew your rent or vacate the property, you must have to pay for the period you occupied that property before the notice.
Properties › Re: Vacating A House Before Tenancy Expires, Do You Get A Refund? by histemple: 9:58am On Jun 25, 2016
azpekuliar:
If you have decided to vacate before your tenancy expires, you are entitled to a refund only when a tenant is found for the apartment.

In other words your tenancy will continue to subsist in the apartment until it is let to a new tenant. Once the place is let after you have vacated (and before the expiration of your tenancy) you are then refunded for the unexpired term.

So let's say you vacated 6 months to the end of your tenancy, you don't get a refund for the 6months unexpired term. The apartment has to be let to somebody else. If it takes 3 months to do that, then you get a refund for the remaining 3 months unexpired term.
Your analysis was nice except for the use of the word ENTITLED. A tenant who willingly terminates his/her tenancy is not entitled for a refund according to law. It is the same way that a landlord/landlady who serves you a quit notice is not entitled to receive payment for a covered period, depending on your tenancy category.

More so, it is even at the discretion of the landlord to either accept or reject the new tenant introduced by you subject to his/her considerations. This is because, although the apartment/property belongs to you until expiration, you are NOT ALLOWED to sublet.

So, you have the power to lock it up and hold the keys until the expiration of your tenancy. And nobody has the right to enter therein without your permission.

Property expert, food is ready

IMO it depends on what is stated on the tenancy agreement signed by the house owner and the tenant
No lawyer will prepare a tenancy agreement with that clause included because that will amount to importing non-legal instruments into a legally defined law. And I am surprised that some people are making it look like it's only in Nigeria that it's not possible.

Such agreements, although rare, can only be oral and subject to certain conditions like getting another willing tenant.

"And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery."

"Except it be for fornication" is called appositives. Without it the sentence could still flow. That is why it has a comma. It has nothing to do with the "and shall marry , committeth adultery.

To make it even clearer: whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

It doesn't give both parties right to marry after the divorce.
I am giving up on you in complete shock. Stay blessed.

Matthew 19 -
7 The Pharisees asked, “Why then did Moses give a command for a man to divorce his wife by giving her divorce papers?”

8 Jesus answered, “Moses allowed you to divorce your wives because you refused to accept God’s teaching, but divorce was not allowed in the beginning.

9 I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman is guilty of adultery.
Okay, I have seen where your confusion is coming from and that is what is causing so much problems for christianity. Sometimes, we read the part we like or that supports our argument and deliberately avoid reading it completely-----even when it is only a verse----just as you have done here.

Anyways, I want to believe it was an oversight. So, I want you to get a complete bible (maybe KJV) and read verse 9 completely.

In NIV it says and I quote "I tell you, anyone who divorces his wife, EXCEPT for martial unfaithfulness and marries another woman, commits adultery"

You can also read KJV below.

Matthew 19:9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

I hate to say it, but you're wrong. The only ground for divorce is unfaithfulness and even after that, you don't have the right to marry otherwise you, yourself have committed adultery.

Matthew 5 vs 32 But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife forces her to be guilty of adultery. The only reason for a man to divorce his wife is if she has sexual relations with another man. And anyone who marries that divorced woman is guilty of adultery.
You can fault my argument and it's very much welcomed but I will need a legal or biblical evidence as it were.

You will need to read Matthew 19:7-9 and explain the word "EXCEPT" in that context.

In plain English, if I say you shouldn't kill EXCEPT the person stole------what it means is----stealing is the only ground for which killing is PERMITTED

"Remember that "lack of love" is a
ground for which you can divorce your
partner?"

The above is your statement...

My question is that where does that clause comes from: in Courtship or from the bible... And if it's not from the bible, what of those who adhere strictly to the bible. Who know fully well that "divorce is not an option."
To say that divorce is not an option is not biblical. In Matthew 19:7-9 Jesus addressed this issue where He told them that no man should divorce his wife EXCEPT on the premise of marital unfaithfulness (adultery).

To answer your question on lack of love as a ground for divorce, I was addressing the issue legally according to generally accepted laws of repugnance to "natural justice"---------it is also in our laws (LFN). Fortunately or otherwise for Christians, they are not allowed to divorce on this premise but to commit it to God in prayer and expect a positive result.

No. Matthew 5:32. Jesus clearly stated that marital unfaithfulness is the only permissible ground for divorce.

It was in Matthew 19:8 that Jesus reminded them that the laws Moses gave them was because of the hardness of their hearts, and he was responding to many questions on the old orders of Moses where he even told them that if at the first night you discovered that your bride is not a virgin, you can divorce her

I love where you are driving at. Can we trust human enough for genuine love to exist. I think love itself is a risk. That my partner and I have stayed for 30 years doesn't mean she can't wake uP one morning and do the undo-able(dnt mind the word).

Okay, my question now is when is it ideal to give your heart to someone you love? Putting everything in place "that the only thing constant is change."
I love your understanding of the changing nature of humans which is why you should "never" give your heart without your head-----and that is to answer your question succinctly.

What we refer to as LOVE in the first place, is nothing but the affection that is as a result of the endearing value you have for that fellow.

This affection can either appreciate or depreciate with time----sometimes it can appreciate until observers begin to wonder if you have been charmed; other times, it could depreciate gradually to disaffection.

When this disaffection happens then separation/divorce is inevitable and yes, it can happen even after several years of marriage.

Yes! You are very correct here because it is expected that you must have satisfied your heart that you are compatible and can live "together for ever" and so during marriage, you give your all.

However, even during marriage, your head is supposed to be constantly working to provide the necessary commitment that continually binds you together and grow the affection (love).

That same working head will tell you when to leave the union if need be-------and yes the bible envisages and gives ground for divorce-----although we don't pray for it.

I know the head comes along with loving. I mean when does the heart comes into play? bf/gf or just Marriage?
For a genuine love to exist, the head must first be satisfied and establish good reasons to give your heart to that fellow. The heart and the head must constantly work together in the issue of love. That is why a person who truly loves you can punish you sometimes if that is what is needed to make you a better person------our parents for example.

On the contrary, a person who loves without the head (senses) can never do anything painful to the other person even when it is needed.

A lady who loves without the head will never leave her boyfriend who has not only turned to a violent cocaine addict but also into armed-robbery.

What of marriage for instance. There are cheats in marriage. Is your advice applicable to it too?
Not really applicable because you are advised to court your potential partner so as to ascertain compatibility. So, if during the courtship you didn't observe or ignored warning signs, then you may painfully consider such as your undoing.

But due to the changing nature of human beings, you can either turn a blind eye or divorce.

There are many factors that could warrant not loving a mad woman. One distinctive reason is that you've not just been or spoken with her.

Coming up with a mad woman has not debunked that reason. Debunk it with any average normal person.
Let me pretend that you have not seen my earlier examples involving "normal person" wherein I tried to show you that loving without the head is the worst kind of foolishness.

Now look at these scenarios.

A sickle cell carrier marrying another sickle cell carrier is loving without the head-------Do you agree?

Dangote's daughter marrying a poverty-stricken dwarf is loving without the head----Do you agree?

A 20-year-old first-class Harvard female graduate marrying an illiterate 60-years old fisherman from Otuoke is loving without the head-----Do you agree?

I see it as sugarcoating. Is loving with the head leaves out trust? Cos it is even trust that leads to love, whether heart/head, in the first place.
Loving someone because he/she is honest, trustworthy, truthful etc is loving with your head alongside your heart because there is a verified reason for loving that fellow.

Loving without your head is a love that is predicated on no known reason or quality.

I read in your lead post that "attraction is not choice" and I am tempted to ask you-------Can you remember being attracted to a madwoman at the refuse dumpsite? Or do you know a psychologically balanced fellow that did so?

Mark it somewhere I can never come up with that. I've been jilted not once, not even twice. Each one produces a stronger ME.
Then quote me anywhere, you have always loved with your head. Loving with your head as generally advised is not the absence of genuine affection but one that is an appreciation of the qualities and sacrificial selflessness of your partner.

The hard truth is, if you can't tell why you loved someone, then you need to check yourself, because it is likely to be lust than genuine love.
Romance › Re: Loving With Your Head Alone Doesn't Exist. by histemple:
First, I will like to shock you that there is no true love that is not measured. By this I mean, a genuine love is only possible after "the loved" has proven, through series of attitude and genuine concern, that you are really dear to him/her.

Aside, the endearing "value" you have for someone and you feel when the person is absent, there is no such reality as LOVE.

The picture you are trying to paint is indirectly implying that love can be BLIND-------which means there is no reason you love the person-----but that is the stupidity called lust. And yes, it exist and people suffer it's deadly consequences including suicide.

Please be advised, that what we refer to as real love can only be genuine when you can point out to certain factors that distinguishes this fellow apart from the crowd------the least could be that he/she understand and tolerates you more than anyone else.

If you think we don't love with our heads, then show me a man that went to YABA LEFT and fell in love with any madman/madwoman.
Or show me that lady that is in love with a poverty-stricken dwarf.

Infact, I doubt if there is any guy or lady who hasn't set certain attributes a potential life partner must possess----that is loving with the head.
A sickle cell carrier insisting on marrying another sickle carrier is a lust-driven foolishness and no reasonable person supports that.

You will appreciate the essence of loving with your head when you realize that love alone can't sustain any relationship, especially as it reduces or fades away with time.

You will curse the day you loved with only and all your heart when you discover that you are the only one doing so.

Why did the God harden pharoh heart for him to die? Because pharoh will pursue and he will not let the children of israel enjoy freedom. Some unrepented enemies must die for you to enjoy life.
If I am not mistaken, it seems you are referring to old testament. I doubt if there was any need for forgiveness during that time and God was dealing with humans in strict terms, which was why Jesus came to reconcile man to God and establish a new order. Infact, Jesus went as far as teaching them "how to pray". Matthew 6:9

The topic of this discussion was contained in that prayer where He said "forgive my tresspasses just as I FORGIVE those that tresspassed against me". By implication, forgiving those that tresspassed against us is the only condition we can expect God to forgive us of our wrongdoings.

He answered so many other questions centered on existing laws, most of which he modified or outrightly nullified.
Obviously astound, the disciples asked Jesus which was the most important commandment to keep since He has modified almost everything therein, including pardoning an adulterer that was caught in the act------Jesus simply told them that the ultimate commandment was LOVE.

He further told them that most of the laws Moses gave them was because of their HARDENED HEART. Matthew 19:8

Before Jesus, what obtained was the "do me, I do you" laws of Moses and others. But remember when Jesus was asked how many times someone needed to be offended before he can revenge? He simply told them 70x7. Matthew 18:22

If you read the bible carefully, the old and new testaments have so much contradictions, and understandably so, because Jesus came with a new ministry------and God changed from the God of war Exodus 15:3 to the God of Peace.1 Cor. 14.33

Part of that ministry was to free mankind from the law of old. Romans 6:14
