EducationRe: ASUU’s Key Demands by HitRun(m): 7:40pm On Oct 08, 2022
IT HAS JUST BEGAN.
The FG is using the judiciary to compel ASUU to go back to work and bring an end to our patriotic struggle.

They think it is through the use of law that they can strangulate us and then deliver the final blow after suffocating us for long using the evil ploy of "No work no pay".

Fellow Colleagues "enough is enough", since all our legitimate appeal - to get the FG understand and do the needful and save the Universities from total collapse- fell on deaf ears. It is time to let the cat out, i.e.
we have for long been toiling to curtail the rot in the system, believing that FG will honour its side of bargain and meet up with its obligation. But no, what we got in the end is despise and an all out war to subjugate ASUU so that the public Universities can finally be annihilated.

IF eventually we decide to be "law abiding citizens" and the strike is suspended, we should then STRICTLY abide by the laws governing our responsibilities in terms of work load.

We shall henceforth:
(1) ONLY teach the approved number of students,

(2) ONLY supervise the approved number of students,

(3) work for only the approved duration. No more overload of courses.

(4) ensure that laboratory practicals are conducted only for the approved number of students.

Of course we should ensure that our colleagues in training are among those considered in 1 to 4 above.

(5) those with administrative responsibilities especially Dean's & HODs should stop using their personal money to run the system.

(6) just use sign language to deliver the lecture, if we're not provided with teaching materials.

(7) those going for external examinations should only participate after they are fully paid. Remember the remaining part of the allowance has persistently been pending since 2009.

(cool stop using our PCs to do university work. We can all queue up to use the computer in the exam office (since it is the only one provided by the university). The waiting time will definitely be long before it gets to our turn to use it, but why worry.

(9) where we are forced to teach an overpopulated class, we should mark, submit and consider result for only the number of student approved by the University law.

(10) stop carrying the burden of the system on us beyond what the law says. Remember the excess work we've been doing (whose allowance we've earned and is yet to be paid since 2009) is what causes accelerated ageing, the proliferation of gray hairs, rapid depreciation of sight and hypertension (mind you these are not reversable.

There is no better time to be law abiding than now.

I come in peace

Your short-sightedness will not allow you to see that ASUU is fighting for your children not to be only good enough to be a filling station worker. If things continue this way, in 10 years, a Nigerian degree won’t be worth the paper it is printed on.

That's what you feel, that's what you were told.

1. When Buhari stopped Doctors from doing PP, where they work somewhere else, they complained, then later kept quiet, ASUU went on strike less than 2 months after Buhari stopped lecturer from partaking in visitation, there are many graduates out there that are willing and able to take over, but this greedy people were and are still angry.

Back then in school, I use to have a lecturer who lectures us, lectures as visiting lecturer the state university, and also work as lecturer for the predegree school. He will be rushing to lecture us every morning, always late to work. I know many people like him

You think someone like this collecting more than one salaries, not to fight tooth and nail for it.

That's only one visitation alone, many other rubbish this people are doing that is not hidden
Why are you shifting the goal post. Complete the argument on one issue before you bring up another issue where again your knowledge of the subject matter is limited.

It is useless debating with someone who does not know what they are talking about. Good luck with your ignorance.

His kids are not studying outside.

The man knows this people, if you know how this people are siphoning money ehnn, you sef if you are the one, you fight for the corner corner, it's just like stoping police from doing road safety work
Who are the people siphoning money?

ASUU does not touch money beyond the dues members pay from their salary. The Chairman of the governing council that controls the school is appointed by government and is usually a politician. The governing council appoints the VC. Everything financial in all public universities is handled by the governing council and the VC.

If ASUU say revaitalize the universities with 200billion, it is still the government appointees that utilize the monies on behalf of the government in the schools. ASUU does not touch it.

One of the issues ASUU went on strike for is the issue of visitation panel. ASUU is saying, send a team to each of these universities to verify what they are doing with all the money you have pumped in. For years govt didn’t send anybody. The question is why? When ASUU strikes and they eventually sent people, govt has refused to release the report. The question is why?

Until Nigerians realize that ASUU is fighting for the good of the university system, they will keep castigating ASUU and FG will keep sowing seed of discord. If ASUU struggles fail(God forbid), we can say bye bye to education in Nigeria. It will be a shame and a recipe for disaster.

I hope you know that government's expenditures are budgeted for?

FG promised to release the financial aspect of ASUU'S demands in next year's budget, but ASUU did not agree.

On salary review, FG also accepted to make some upward adjustments in their salaries, to be reflected in next year's budget but ASUU would have none of that.

UTAS was said to have failed integrity tests so cannot be deployed as payment platform for the lecturers for now, yet ASUU is insisting that it must be deployed. Office of the accountant general of the federation has also asked to capture any peculiar allowances of lecturers on IPPIS but ASUU wouldn't take that.
The govt promised to include the financial demand in the budget 22 budget, they didn’t.

Nitda in the meeting with gbajabiamila said that all three payment platforms tested, including IPPIS failed the test, why pay with IPPIS?

It is currently being speculated that Tinubu may withdraw from the presidential race to care of his fragile health.

If this comes out true, it means that Atike and Obi are in for the greatest contest of all times.

while Obi has a stupendous advantage over Atiku, surprises may not be ruled out.

Coming days will be interesting.
What advantage does Obi have over Atiku?
PoliticsRe: Atiku Promises To Support Wike For President In 2027 by HitRun(m): 8:24am On Oct 01, 2022
Unless Wike just wants to have something to hold onto and say Atiku did not keep to a deal else it is audible to the deaf and visible to the blind that this deal won’t work. Atiku will do two terms unless his health fails and he choose not to contest for 2nd term. So 2027 is out of the question. Secondly, why won’t a sitting Vice President want to contest? If he does, the best Atiku can do is provide a level playing ground and not interfere; let the most popular man win.

But going by his antecedents, e sure me die say Atiku go bring a core Igbo man and work hard to install am the way Obj installed Yar Adua. This is because, if we want to be honest, that is the only way an Igbo man can get to the presidency in today’s Nigeria. And if that Igbo man’s presidency goes well, finally south easterners can begin to get a fair shot at the presidency like everyone else.

Refer to your strike memo, i think you are going against the directives of the ASUU excos.
It was stated clearly there that it should be a "total and comprehensive" strike, and all those things you stated up there that you've done and many more should be stopped.
Were you the person who issued the memo? If not, then you do not have any basis for defining what ‘total and comprehensive’ means.

ASUU main issue is money and more money.
Majority of you are lamenting now on how you can't teach on empty stomachs now.
If FG refused to pay the 7 months sit at home money, ASUU can't do anything more than to remain at home for more months without salary.

The court of appeal will refer ASUU to NIC and that will be the end of the road
The court of appeal will…

I leave it at that.

This entitlement mentality that it is your right to get paid after every of your numerous strikes MUST stop this time around.

In case you have forgotten, you guys declared a total strike.

Which means that NO WORK was done.

You take so much pride in calling yourselves "intellectuals" but essence you guys are not even that smart.
You are speaking to emotions. When you go to a court, you will have to show how total strike means no work. Let me however enlighten you on what total strike means; it means no teaching, no project supervision, no examination of any kind, no departmental, college or academic committee meetings, etc.

They are entitled because it is their money. They should have no apologies for that.

You say they are not smart? Let us wait and see whether FG will pay or not. After all the noise, they will pay that money. In any case, this 7 month (or whatever month) salary issue is just a distraction, there are more important issues - the main reason for the strike in the first place.

brightest5050:
You would have read to understand my point of view and not reading because you want to reply. The 7 month salary arrears is a major reason the union went on indefinite strike when government invoked the 'no work no pay policy'. The union deserve the Earned Academic Allowance and they deserve to be paid up till the last penny.

There was no salary arrears before the union went on strike so obviously salary arrears cannot be a reason for the initial strike that was came into effect Feb 14th.

When I said the pay you are clamouring for is it the salary arrear for 7 month they sat at home, it was actually a rethorical question but been that you answered no then I will ask these questions:

A) F.g not paying ASUU for the 7 month of the strike is it justified?

B) Or should FG pay ASUU for the 7 month strike on compassionate ground (any compassion whatsoever) but not because the union has the right to be paid for these 7 month?

Your answer to question A) and B) use it to answer if the union declaring indefinite strike because of 'no work no pay policy' of government is a good reason for a union that "want to save public institution from collapse"
A: No. it is not justified because they have worked partially.

B. Paying for those months they are on strike should not be termed compassionate, it is their right.

An academic’s job description in Nigeria is teaching, research, and community service. Members of ASUU only stopped offering the first out of the 3 services. Unless the FG (and all other self appointed assistant FGs) can prove that members of ASUU stopped offering the remaining two services, they have to pay.

I can assure you that members of ASUU can prove that they have been offering the other two services. At least I have assisted a couple of persons pay publication fees for journal papers within the last 7 months (Their money, I only facilitated the transactions because of dollar restriction palaver). If that isn’t proof enough that members of ASUU are working, I wonder what else can be proof enough.

Anyway, one of the reason ASUU Dey on strike na because of earned allowance. You know Wetin that earned allowance be? You no know, make I tell you: ratio of students to lecturers too much. To reduce that ratio, govt need employ more lecturers.
