PoliticsRe: Fuel Scarcity Looms As FG, Oil Marketers Disagree On Pricing by hmohammed(m): 11:25am On Apr 17, 2020
kikero:
Good point. However, subsides on fuel have been in place because if they are removed prices of foodstuff go up. And one of the easiest ways to bring down a government is to raise the price of food.

All in all, subsides have to go, so that long term things get better.
I am in support of deregulation. The only issue here is that we are not ripe for that at the moment. We need Dangote to begin production after which we can embark on full deregulation. That should be the strategy.
PoliticsRe: Fuel Scarcity Looms As FG, Oil Marketers Disagree On Pricing by hmohammed(m): 8:34am On Apr 17, 2020
BandAid:
The govt is not protecting your interest, rather, your future and that of your unborn children are being mortgaged by insincerity, ineptitude and popular, but harmful policies of the govt. The huge trillions of Naira being wasted on subsidies should be diverted to developing our infrastructure, sustain the health/education sector, create jobs for the teeming youths and stem the tide of corruption in the downstream oil sector of the economy. No sane society in the world subsidizes consumption - only Nigeria does so!

Instead of creating a level playing ground for the players within the petroleum sector, the govt would rather dictate the price and thereby causing upheavals whenever oil price changes in the international market. What you think you gain in term of subsidy is taken away from you by lack of access to basic infrastructure, epileptic power supply, long queues at the filling stations, reduced life expectancy rate, embezzlement and mismanagement. Subsidy in Nigeria has always been a Greek's gift. They give you so little only to take away so much. Think!
Oga, the government have removed subsidy at the moment. The issue here is that the oil marketers want complete deregulation such that they only control price. They are a cabal and will milk Nigerians dry. Do you know that Diesel has been deregulated and during this era of low crude oil price, diesel price remained unchanged. Be wise and don't buy into their deregulation story.
PoliticsRe: TCN: Free Electricity Is Mere Propaganda by hmohammed(m): 8:25am On Apr 17, 2020
jmoore:
Every Nigerian should kick against free electricity because the discos are the ones that would benefit from it.

Here is how free electricity can work. The government will pay the Discos billions of naira so they can offer free electricity to their customers.

The problem here is that the discos currently are offering darkness to most of their customers.

Therefore, don't expect a miracle because of free electricity. Majority who are still in darkness would remain in darkness while the few that enjoy some hours of power supply would be happy.

5,000-7,000 megawatts of electricity for a country with a population of more than 160 million can't reach a quarter of the population.

The only gainers here are the discos that will be paid by the government to supply 'darkness' to majority of Nigerians.
Not true. Quite a lot of Nigerians are enjoying electricity in this period.

I read about China giving out a N100k as palliative

USA budgeting $2trillion for same purposes

Canada is giving out $200 to each child at state level and still expecting $300 each from federal govt

Even Ghana increased their health workers salary and allowances by 50% and also declare water n electricity free

God how did we offend our leaders here
Ode, did you read the part where federal government of Nigeria together with the Chinese government supported with food and funds. Very annoying citizens.

PoliteActivist:
Let's ask ourselves a question. If it were, say, USA, that had 305 cases total while 799 people died in Lagos in a single day, will they shut down their economy? The answer of course is NO! Why? Because they have the health facility to face a spike in cases. THEREFORE, Nigeria should direct almost ALL our resources towards upgrading our healthcare facility. We have now all seen what having inadequate health facility is costing us - penny wise , pound foolish.
We should partially open up the country under stringent requirements, direct all our resources towards upgrading healthcare, treat those who succumb, bury those who die, monitor things closely and if we see a spike, go back to lockdown.
Is this a joke or you are been serious. You didn't make any sense.

Lies lies lies

The Nigerian government and NCDC are liars !

Okay you say only 238 infected in Nigeria ? grin

Out of how many tested ? Does Nigeria have up too 100,000 test kits ? Nope

Let's say we have 50,000 test kits, has the NCDC tested up to 10,000 people ? Nope!
So let's say they have so far tested only 5000 people now if they found only 238 infected in 5000 tested in a country of 200 million people we should be very worried

Meaning. The real number of infected in Nigeria might actually be around 2 million people!!!

Safe guard your family, this government is very mad
