*clears throat* If i become the president of Nigeria, First, I will make history as the first woman to be president in Nigeria.. (Chaii , Men go hear wuen!!!), But then the burning issues in the country which are of prime importance (corruption and terrorism) must be dealt with properly and with adequate attention. How do I go about this? I would have to start with me and with those who work closely with me, and just like my sister Chommieblaq have stated earlier, i will definitely not work with any of those "recycled" politicians, instead i'll solicit for graduates whose disciplines are in line with government and it's constitution, thereby enabling them practice their profession!! (*Pot belly men listening from beer parlour now jumping and screaming for joy * Then Secondly, Fuel shortage and Power Supply issues must be sorted out!! Truth is Nigerians wants to see a difference when it comes to infrastructural development because it aids economic growth for individuals, businesses and the country at large. Therefore this i would do, by providing elements that are necessary for private power sector to succeed, thereby, addressing the critical needs such as adequate transmission, gas availability and cost reflective tariff, and of course, have a look in other sources of energy such as coal, solar and waste as well as security measures to provide and protect pipelines (*turns to market women* abi no be soooo? *market women replies* Na sooooo!!!!!!.) *Smiles and then Continues* Thank you!! Then lastly, provision for training and financial encouragement will abound for all Nigerians looking to be their own bosses. At least, with this, large private companies would be required to give to their communities in vital ways, therefore because of more entrepreneurs, opportunities to find employment will increase and less people would wander aimlessly..* huge shouts from youths using their bikes to express their joy* *smiles and continues* thank you!! *Stands upright to salute* These, my Government would undertake if i be the President of Nigeria!!! So help me God!!!! |

Chommieblaq: Life after youth service can be very difficult for most youth, job hunting could be an uphill task for most fresh graduates considering the fact that it is a game of the survival of the fittest. Also, most of our school system have not done so well in preparing us for the competitive labor market, that's why most youth find life difficult and unbearable during these period. Below are list of things we must know and also do during our service year, not just during our service year incorporating some of these in our daily lifestyle will go a long way to help us ni life. SAVE Many youth sees the service year as a time to flex n flirt, I cannot over emphasize on the importance of savings, don't be a spendthrift, differentiate between your needs and wants. You don't have to meet up to anyone, rather set your goals n trying meeting up to each of them(believe me when u do that, u won't have time try to impress anyone). Also remember that immediately after school most of our parent start looking up on us for one thing or the other (especially people from humble home), no pocket money for you again, ur younger ones will start expecting one or two things from you(worst if u are d first child). The hustle don start be that ooo THE KIND OF JOB YOU WANT: The first thing you must do is to take a decision on the kind of job you want. You can even stream line it down to the list of companies you would want to work for, that way you know what you are preparing for and how to go about it. Any job is no job, take a decision today because it will determine a whole lot of things in your preparation. Also carry out a research on the companies you would like to work with, get to know one or two things about them, their history, mission, vision etc PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE : Acquire at least one professional certificate . This is why you should decide first on the choice of career/job you want as it will help you decide on which professional course to go for. Don’t be a party to the band wagon mentality that is prevalent among corps members. Everybody is going for project management, therefore must you too go for project management? Everybody in your lodge is enrolling for HSE, so you too must enroll for HSE. Don't be a fool. Get to find out the professional certification that best suits your dream job. SKILL AQUISITION: please learn a new skill. Get your hands on something, so when they ask you, what can you do? You can provide a definite answer, instead of just telling them what you studied. What you studied and what you can do are two distinct things altogether. This is very important especially for my friends with a background in social sciences. A good skill acquired could also be handy pending when the dream job comes. CHANGE YOUR WARDROBE dude please dress like your dream job. Starting building a professional wardrobe from that small alawee. It’s not the time to spend your money on another dirty jean, combat pants, or what have you. Get yourself a cutting edge professional suit (don’t bank on your convocation suit to do the job). It doesn’t cost much. For guys, invest on good ties, cufflinks, shoe, shirt and the ladies dress responsible ditch all these olosho looks. PREPARE YOUR CV Some of us have already done that, and for the one that haven't, it's time, and please avoid telling unnecessary lies on your CV just to impress be yourself! LETTING GO OF SOME RELATIONSHIPS At this point, we will have to let go of friends that drain us, that have no positive impact on us. Surround yourself with people that influence you positively. This is also applicable to our love life, leave that girl or dude who doesn't influence u or support your dream( there own na to chop n play love upanda, be realistic, no be love una go chop ), don't let anyone be a distraction to you or stop u from reaching your goals. LEAVE YOUR FAMILY HOUSE Especially to the guys, that why savings is of utmost important, get yourself a small place, fend n do things by yourself, it will make u more independent. START UP SMALL BUSINESS During the service year, one can start up small business that doesn't require much capital, or doing of tutorials to earn small money, it will go a long way to help. JOIN GROUPS THAT CAN INSPIRE AND HELP YOU We can find such groups online, hear their stories, one can even get good connection from such group. Let their positive mind lift your mind. VOLUNTEER WORK Doing volunteer work, will give you experience and also connection, so long it doesn't inconvenience you. MENTOR If you don't have one, try and do, having a mentor acts like a driving force, because you will want to do and do more than your mentor GOD FIRST In all always remember that those who go to the Most High will always go high in life! Not upto 20 though buh I pray it helps. ... Nice one ma darling... You have said it all... *stretches hand* gimme 5!! |

NB: This is just a summary of what a PCM should expect if posted to Sokoto state. I may not touch every part, but i believe and hope that this little piece goes a long way, so as to serve as a prospectus for survival in the Seat of the Caliphate. NATURE OF SOKOTO STATE Sokoto is a city located in the extreme northwest of Nigeria near the confluence of the Sokoto River and the Rima River. Being the seat of the Sokoto Caliphate, the city is predominantly Muslim and an important seat of Islamic learning in Nigeria and the Sultan who heads the caliphate is effectively the spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims, however Christians, still carry on with their spiritual activities without being subjected to any form of constrains or restrictions. Therefore, should any PCM get posted to serve there, please feel free to have your worship ok? Gud! LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS Sokoto has 23 local government areas which are Binji, Bodinga, Dange-shnsi, Gada, Goronyo, Gudu, Gawabawa, Illela, Isa, Kware, kebbe, Rabah, Sabon birni, Shagari, Silame, Sokoto North, Sokoto South, Tambuwal, Tqngaza, Tureta, Wamako, Wurno, Yabo. Wamako: this is where is the nysc camp is located, and its about an hour drive from sokoto main town. The main towns are in Sokoto North and Sokoto south (this include, Dambuwa, Mabera, Old Airport, Tamaji, kwanawa etc), these are the areas a PCM would definitely enjoy if posted, because of the adequate light, water, and other infrastructures, (to be honest, if you work your way there you won't regret it, trust me, lol), while the other LGAs are kinda rural but not totally. WEATHER Aha! Now this is one of the physical factors that scares the hell out of people at the mention of the state "Sokoto". Well even though it is no news that the state happens to be one of (if not) the hottest cities in the country, at least the dryness makes the heat bearable with an annual average temperature of 28.3 °C (82.9 °F). The warmest months are February to April, where daytime temperatures can exceed 45 °C (113.0 °F). The highest recorded temperature is 47.2 °C (117.0 °F), which is also the highest recorded temperature in Nigeria (Goshh!! , i didnt just say that) lol. Well for the rainy season, its from June to October, during which showers are a daily occurrence. The showers rarely last long and are a far cry from the regular torrential showers known in many tropical regions. From late October to February, during the 'cold season', the climate is dominated by the harmattan wind blowing Sahara dust over the land, ok that's enough already, come rain, come shine, sweet heart, YOU WILL SURVIVE!!! (lol) TRANSPORTATION AND COST OF LIVING *Lowers tone* Sokoto lacks a public transport system (i dunno why oo) but transport within the city (when not by foot) is mainly by mopeds (keke napep) and bikes which operate as one-person taxis. Buses and taxis are infrequent and are generally used only for transport between cities. However *gives a smile of hope* it is very CHEAP, oh yes, depending on the destination and how far the distance is. Say for movements within town, it shouldn't be more than N100 or N120 (quite cheap abi, i told yaa!! ). Cost of living in regard to accommodate and foodstuffs (rice, beans, onions, yam, vegetables and even meat) .. lets just say Sokoto is blessed, because even with the economic meltdown, accommodation and foodstuffs are still quite cheap depending on the areas and seasons respectively. BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY Sokoto State is essentially an agricultural state with more than 90% of the population engaged in subsistence farming. The main crops produced in the State are millet, guinea corn, maize, rice, beans, wheat, cassava, potatoes, groundnut, sugarcane as well as fruits and vegetables which include oranges, mangoes, cashew, bananas, lettuce, spinach, okra, cabbage, pawpaw and guava. ..... Sooo, if you'll like to consider making use of the agricultural opportunity, i'll say that wouldn't be a bad idea.. *WINKS* INDUSTRIES Yes, in terms of production of goods and services, Sokoto still offers a fair opportunity, especially for those considering other engagements aside their PPA, To mention but a few, are list of companies one could actually consider. 1. Cement Company of Northern Nigeria Plc (CCNN): this produces and market high quality cement for national development located at Kalambaina Road, Sokoto City, Sokoto State. 2. Alh. Yaro Gobirawa & Sons Limited: this is a merchandising company for importation, warehousing and distribution on general goods, located at Atiku Road, Old Market Area, Sokoto, Sokoto State 3. Estate Global Investment : this company produces nylons and water proofs for sachet water packaging. 4. Rima Foam Products Limited offers is a distributor of foam and foam products located at Illela Road, Sokoto, Sokoto State 5. Smedan Business Center: this is a business-support services and business development networking located at Sosco Plaza, Kano Road, Sokoto, Sokoto State 6. Roads Nigeria Limited: this is a construction company located at Western By-Pass, Sokoto City, Sokoto State Nigeria LEISURE PARKS For those that love to hang out and have fun oo, Sokoto still have places for that, they include: Blue star, Shukura hotel, Giginya hotel, Pinnacle , Dankani, Mami market, Happy island.... etc etc *pauses to catch breathe* seriously... am tired Oh oh oh oh before i forget, need i remind you that SOKOTO is still the MOST PEACEFUL STATE in the country (no doubt). Bless you!!! |

However, some of us that seem to look consistent here are HEAVILY working as well (In my own case, I work at least 9 hours a day). Its all about time management babe (and believe me when I say this is the real life after school).
