Ogbeni, you are talking about support and politics and I am talking about regional affinity and blocs. In politics, the larger the bloc the bigger the bargaining power. If a man gets supported by another bloc other than the one he belongs to, he is bound to play to the tune of that bloc. That is why Tinubu's government will be lethargic. He will be too careful not to offend the north because southwest alone cannot defend him 'in case'.

Just being president is not everything but what you achieved with it is the end.

Jonathan was also so careful not to offend the North because the north will always have that large voting bloc and will almost likely vote together.

Even if a president of Edo or igibira origin is Elected today, he or she will still be careful not to offend the North no matter the "friend ship" his or her region might have with other regions.

The north voting power will always be a factor in Nigerian democracy.

there is no side note. Muhammed lawal of APP won governorship election in Kwara 1999.

Lawal was the AD candidate as there was no AD in the Election in ilorin..

APP and AD formed alliance.

the southwest did not 'produce' any president in 1999. Obasanjo won on PDP platform not on AD. That shaped his administration. Infact, our people even accused him of not being Yoruba.

Like I wrote in my earlier post. You need to realize politics is a game of interest and not friendship.

In 1999, Hausa Fulani North supported for Yorubas to represent the two major political parties and choose the one they felt more comfortable with in Obasanjo not because they loved Yorubas but because they saw his choice as strategic.

In 2015, they partnered with Tinubu and gave South West vice presidential position to save their political relevance in Nigeria not because they love the Yorubas but they saw it as strategic.

In 2023, they partnered with Tinubu again by giving him half their votes to protect the image and unity of Nigeria not because they loved Tinubu but it's strategic planning.

Politics is not about friendship.

Side note about Kwara

AD won governorship Election in 1999 in Kwara and App won presidential election because APP was in a partnership with AD to produce Olufalaye.

The south west without friends has produced two presidents in 24 years since Nigeria returned to democracy.

Infact the only time Yorubas have not been represented in this country in the major leadership position isince 1999 is 2011 to 2015.


The earlier you realize that politics is a game of interest and not friendship the better for you.


Your so called friend might vote with your enemy if it satisfy his interest at that time.
