The Nigerian Police says its men will no longer be allowed to carry firearms during operations.

Instead, officers of the Police Force will now make use of electro-muscular disruption technology known as teaser in place of firearms.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammad Adamu disclosed this while addressing men and women of the Nigerian Police Force at the Police College parade ground, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday.

Adamu said the use of the teaser otherwise known as rubber bullet will be used by the routine patrols, arrest duties and other low-risk operations “as strategic approach towards reducing incidents of fatalities associated with misappropriation of lethal weapons by the Police as first line of response to any threat.”

He was reacting to the spate of extra judicial killings by some policemen in recent weeks.

IGBERE TV recalls that a 20-year-old Ms. Joy Ifeanyi was shot dead by men of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) on Saturday in Lagos. This comes less than two weeks after 36-year-old Kolade Johnson was murdered in cold blood by SARS operatives at a football viewing centre in Lagos.

According to the IGP, between January to April, 2019 “Lagos State has recorded four incidents of misuse of firearms which have resulted in extrajudicial killings of young citizens of this country and injury to others.”

“Its more worrisome that two of these incidents occurred within the last two weeks. Aside negating our professional calling, extrajudicial acts of any description or level by any police personnel is an unacceptable anomaly that creates distrust and disdain between the citizens and the police and widens the trust gap between them.

“In perfecting these initiatives, we shall be engaging with Human Rights Bodies, International Agencies Development partners and Civil Society Organisations.

“This is with a view to evolving a united front towards addressing these challenges on a sustainable basis and within the context of best international practices.”

Adamu further stated the Force will no longer tolerate the senseless killings carried out by some of its officers around the country.

“I must emphasise that enough is enough. The nation and indeed the Police under the current leadership can no longer tolerate abuses associated with the Police either in Lagos or any other part of the country.

“I have already ordered that a signal be circulated to all Police Commands and Formations warning of dire consequences against any personnel that by their incorrigible acts deviates from accepted Police culture and values.”

While warning the officers, Adamu added: “The choice now is for each officer to either resolve to perform his or her duties within extant rules, laws and policies or be prepared to be shown the way out of the system.

“Our visit to Lagos is also designed to condone with the families of the victims of the recent incidents of misuse of firearms or other forms of abuse of power by identified police personnel in the State and to share in their grief.

“It is also to reassure citizens that as an institution, the Nigeria Police will not condone any form of abuse of power, acts resulting in misuse of firearms, overzealous and sundry unprofessional conducts by members of the police regardless of his rank and position.”

The Federal Government says it is working out modalities to addressing security challenges facing the country, especially as it relates to the rate of smuggling of drugs across the nation's borders.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama made the revelation while speaking with newsmen on Monday in Abuja.

The Minister expressed the current administration’s determination to holistically address the issues by working with neighbouring countries.

Onyeama said that the current efforts aimed at tackling smuggling in the borders of the affected countries would yield results.

“I think the political will is really there now to finally and definitively address this issue,” Onyeama stated.

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari has set up a committee comprising the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Justice, Finance and Interior; as well as the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Nigeria Customs Service over the issue.

“He has also asked the governments of Niger and Benin to set up similar committees in the two countries and to also meet.

“So, we are planning to have a meeting of those committees in the very near future.

“This is a preparatory meeting between us to revisit all the issues, come up with a common position and present that to Mr President so that we can have a basis for engaging with those other countries,’’ Onyeama said.

About 27 other Nigerians are said to the on the country's death roll for same reasons.

Stay Back In Your Country, UK tells Nigerian Ladies

It can be considered a trying time for the President Muhammadu Buhari lead administration as government of the United Kingdom (UK) has told him how Nigerian ladies end up being slaves in the UK.

The latest development comes on the heels of the execution of Kudirat Afolabi, a Nigerian woman accused of drug trafficking by the Saudi Arabia government.

The UK government warned Nigerian ladies to stay back home instead of coming to the UK for non-existing greener pastures.

Experts say it is sad news for the president considering multiple of problems his government has been battling with plus the fact that countries around the world have been deporting hundreds of Nigerians in recent times. For instance, IGBERE TV recalls that Ghana, a neighbouring West African country deported 72 Nigerians in September 2018.

UK, therefore, is backing an advertising campaign urging Nigerian women and girls to find jobs at home instead of “risking a life of modern slavery” in Britain, IGBERE TV has learnt.

Findings by IGBERE TV further revealed that posters are to be placed in schools, churches and marketplaces in an attempt to reduce human trafficking, sexual exploitation and forced labour.

According to the UK Department for International Development, the campaign focuses on “aspirational stories of women who have established successful careers in Nigeria”.

The “Not for Sale” campaign is supported by UK aid and involves the National Crime Agency and the UK’s Joint Border Task Force as well as Nigerian law enforcement.

It further said that one of the stories featured in the posters, TV and radio adverts relates to Gift Jonathan, a single mother who was raped and tortured while attempting to get to Europe but has since returned to Nigeria and found work as a pastry chef.

“Three years ago, I was a single mother with two children living with my widowed mother,” she said.

“Things were so hard that when my friend told me about travelling to Germany, guy I moved! We only made it to Libya. I was sold, raped and tortured. I saw many Nigerians die including my friend Iniobong.

“When I made it to Nigeria, I met with people who registered me in a vocational centre and encouraged me.

“Today I’m a baker in Benin making enough money to take care of my family. My boys will not grow up to be ashamed of their mother. My name is Gift Jonathan and I am not for sale.”

Report says Nigeria has one of the highest figures for modern slavery in Africa and is one of the top five countries of origin for modern slavery victims reaching Europe and the UK.

In 2018 alone, 208 Nigerian nationals were identified as potential victims of trafficking in the UK.

Penny Mordaunt, the international development secretary, said: “Modern slavery is one of the greatest human rights abuses of our time.

“UK aid is working in partnership with the National Crime Agency and Nigerian law enforcement to stop it at its source.

“Together we are tackling the root causes of dangerous migration to prevent vulnerable women and girls from becoming targeted by traffickers.

“The benefits of this will be far-reaching – preventing regional instability and helping us tackle modern slavery here in the UK.”

“A lot of Africans are coming to Newcastle to care for the people we don’t want to care for anymore. They come here on minimum wage with their kids.

“Get a council house ( no period of residency requirement here) put their kids into school. There seems to be some sort of magic portal between west Africa and north-east England at the moment,” one of the commenters on the development told IGBERE TV.

While another one says UK isn’t as juicy as some Africans think, “I’m all for giving potential migrants as much information as possible. People think the UK or Europe (American etc) will lead to a better life and honestly, sometimes it doesn’t and they’ve lost everything trying to get there. And either they can’t stay or the situation is awful and not worth it.”

Back home, particularly in the Northern part of Nigeria, there are security challenges in states like Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Nasarawa, Benue and a few other states.

The Nigerian government hasn’t reacted at the time of filing this report.

The European Union (EU) has identified 23 countries that pose money laundering and terror financing risks.

The EU listed and added Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and twenty-one others to a blacklist of nations seen as posing a threat because of lax controls on terrorism financing and money laundering.

The move, IGBERE TV gathered, is part of a crackdown on money laundering after several scandals at EU banks.

It has, however, been criticized by several EU countries including Britain, expressing worries and concern about their economic relations with the listed states, notably Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi government said it regretted the decision in a statement obtained by IGBERE TV, adding: “Saudi Arabia’s commitment to combating money laundering and the financing of terrorism is a strategic priority”.

Despite pressure to exclude Riyadh from the list, the commission decided to list the kingdom, confirming a news report regarding the development in January.

Panama said it should be removed from the list because it recently adopted stronger rules against money laundering.

Apart from reputational damage, inclusion on the list complicates financial relations with the EU. The bloc’s banks will have to carry out additional checks on payments involving entities from the blacklisted countries.

Findings by IGBERE TV showed that seven countries were newly added to the existing list of 16 countries, bringing it to a total of 23.

The commission said it added countries with “strategic deficiencies in their anti-money laundering and countering terrorist financing regimes”.

Other countries on the list are Libya, Botswana, Ghana, Samoa, the Bahamas and the four United States territories of American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.

The other listed countries are Afghanistan, North Korea, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia and Yemen.

Findings by IGBERE TV, however, revealed that Bosnia, Guyana, Laos, Uganda and Vanuatu were removed from the list.

Some serving members of the National Assembly have hatched a plan to siphon monies earmarked for their zonal interventions before the expiration of the eight National Assembly, thereby abandoning the constituency projects they have been fully mobilized to execute, findings by IGBERE TV has revealed.

Lawmakers in this category, according to our source, are National Assembly members who lost their re-election bid.

They are said to have perfected the plan as a means of ‘recovering’ monies lost to electioneering campaigns in the last general elections.

Speaking with IGBERE TV, a source in the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing who asked not to be named, said members of the Senate, especially those from Southern Nigeria are worst hit in this desperate looting scheme.

He alleged that while some of the lawmakers have formed an unholy alliance with the Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, who is also not sure of being retained in Buhari’s second term, others have shown lack of concern but perfecting last minute plans to go home with the funds appropriated for such projects.

Those in the less concerned category according to our source, are the Senators representing Abia North, Mao Ohuabunwa; Anambra Central, Victor Umeh; Kwara Central, Bukola Saraki; Akwa Ibom North-West, Godswill Akpabio, amongst others.

The source also alleged that some Senators from the Northern region are using their closeness to the Finance Minister to complete some of their zonal interventions, while the monies meant for these projects lie in their pockets.

He, however, wondered why the Minister will abandon so many of the projects initiated by the Federal Government to finance those that the Senators have been fully mobilised to execute in their constituencies.

Efforts to reach the Spokesman of the Senate, Senator Sabi Abdullahi for comments proved abortive. Similarly, calls placed to the office of the Minister of Finance went unanswered and she was yet to reply messages sent to her phone as at press time.

Constituency or Zonal Intervention Projects in Nigeria refers to developmental projects sited in the constituencies of members of the State Houses of Assembly, members of the House of Representatives or Senators by various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government as appropriated in the budgets of the Federation or State.

The intention of the scheme is to ensure equity in the allocation of projects nationwide. In achieving this, the National Assembly yearly budgets an amount of which portions are ceded to lawmakers to execute projects in their constituencies. In recent times, the budget for Zonal Intervention Projects has been N100 billion annually. However, the whole process of sharing the N100 billion has been shrouded in secrecy since the introduction of the scheme.

Billboards bearing the inscription: ‘This project was funded by Senator/Honourable XYZ,’ are familiar sights in Nigeria. Planting those kinds of signboards is the common method Federal lawmakers use in communicating how they are supposedly using funds allocated to them under the Zonal Intervention Project system. Such messages, usually left near ongoing, abandoned or completed projects, derive financial strength from a special fund earmarked for Zonal Intervention Projects of Federal lawmakers in Nigeria’s appropriation act.

In recent years, the budget of the Zonal Intervention Projects has been N100 billion, shared among the 469 Senators and members of the House of Representatives in the six geo-political zones. Specific details on the projects, including project type, cost, and target sector have been kept secret in the past because lawmakers engage in self-enriching deals in the implementation of the projects. Thus constituents hardly know what should statutorily accrue to them.

For many constituencies, there has never been transparency around which projects were budgeted for, the funds released, or the estimated completion time for them. Often times, constituents ‘worship’ their lawmakers whenever a project is completed with the believe that they used their personal funds in executing the projects. In reality however, this is not the case.

IGBERE TV reliably gathered from trusted sources in the National Assembly that the annual N100 billion is always shared on an agreed 60:40 percent ratio by the two legislative chambers. The House of Representatives takes the bulk with N60 billion and the Senate with N40 billion. By interpretation, the 360 members of the lower chamber have N60 billion to initiate, implement or complete projects in their constituencies while the 109 members in the Senate have N40 billion to do same.

The Federal Government says it will consider removing subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, fuel or gasoline.

Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, made the disclosure on Thursday while speaking at a meeting of the IMF/World Bank.

She was reacting to the advice by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Nigeria and other countries who still subsidise fuel to stop doing so.

IGBERE TV recalls that the Managing Director of IMF, Christine Lagarde, had called on the Federal Government to remove fuel subsidy, saying it is the right thing to do.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday at the on-going annual joint meetings with the World Bank in Washington DC, the IMF boss said with the low revenue mobilisation that existed in Nigeria in terms of tax to gross domestic product, it was important for the country to remove fuel subsidy to boost revenue and improve government's spending.

By so doing, she opined, the country would be able to move funds into improving health, education, and infrastructure for the people.

While describing the IMF’s advice to the Federal Government on the need to remove fuel subsidy as a good recommendation, the Minister of Finance said, “It’s good advice, but we have to implement it in a way that will be successful as well as sustainable.

“We are not in the position to wake up one night and just remove subsidy. We have to educate the
people, we have to show the Nigerian citizens what the replacement for this subsidy will be.

“So, we have a lot of work to do because subsidy removal has to be gradual and the public has to be well informed.”

Candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) in the last presidential election, Kingsley Moghalu has announced his withdrawal from “partisan politics.”

IGBERE TV reports that the former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, announced his decision in a chat with newsmen on Friday in Abuja.

Moghalu, who came 14th position with 21,886 votes in the March 23 poll, said he was now going to dedicate his time to a citizens’ movement called Build A Nation (TBAN) “which seeks to help in the development of Nigeria’s electoral process.”

Asked if he would accept a political appointment if such should come from the Buhari-led administration, he simply said “If such an appointment is offered, then you reflect on it and make a decision.”

The little Child was identified simply as Muhammad Arafat.

President of Sudan, Omar Al-Bashir has been removed from power via a Military Coup on Thursday.

Al-Bashir has also been detained by the Army.

The Military also announced it was freeing all political prisoners.

Sudanese Defence Minister, Awad Ibnouf made this known in a declaration on the nation's national television.

“I announce as Minister of Defence the toppling of the regime and detaining its Chief in a secure place,” Ibnouf said.

“A transitional Military Council would replace Bashir for two years,” he said, adding that the country’s borders and airspace would be shut until further notice.

Al-Bashir, who came to power in a 1989 coup, was one of Africa’s longest serving presidents.

He has ruled the country for 30 years, and wanted on charges of genocide and war crimes by the International Criminal Court.

Earlier this week, the US, Britain and Norway for the first time threw their weight behind the call for Al-Bashir’s removal.

“The Sudanese authorities must now respond and deliver a credible plan for this political transition,” the countries’ said in a joint statement.

President Muhammadu Buhari has issued an order to Security Agencies to deal “ruthlessly” with bandits terrorizing the country.

The President issued the order on Thursday (today).

IGBERE TV reports that Buhari on Thursday, April 11, met with Service Chiefs in a close door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, while briefing State House correspondents at the end of the meeting, said the President has issued a marching order to Security Operatives to be ruthless with bandits terrorising Zamfara state and its environs, as well as tackle other security challenges in the country.

He said, “We have the marching order to deal with this issue immediately and ruthlessly and ensure that all those bandits are immediately dealt with and all those issues that are bordering with our security are properly addressed.”

Also speaking, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu said after confrontation with bandits and kidnappers at Abuja/Kaduna road, the road has been cleared and the road safe for motorists.

President of Sudan, Omar Al-Bashir has allegedly been deposed after a military coup in the nation's capital, Khartoum.

According to reports, the Sudanese Army has removed Al-Bashir from all positions amid reports of a coup in the African country following weeks of anti-government protests.

The Sudanese State Television said on Thursday that the Armed Forces would make an important announcemet, sparking speculation that a coup attempt could be underway against President Al-Bashir, who has ruled the country for 30 years.

“The armed forces will present an important statement shortly. Be ready for it,” the announcement on state television read, without giving further details.

However, hours later the Sudanese were left waiting for details as the there were apparent differences within the military. It was unclear what would happen to Al-Bashir, Sudanese sources however said that the president and his aides had been put under arrest.

As citizens waited for further word, state television and radio played patriotic music, reminding older Sudanese of how military takeovers unfolded during previous episodes of civil unrest.

Local reports says the Armed Forces plans to announce the creation of a military council which would govern the country during a transition period that might last for up to one year.

There are also reports that the Sudanese Army has seized the State TV and Radio offices during their “overthrow” of Al-Bashir from office. As of now, there is no official word on whether or not these reports are true; however, with the ongoing protests across the country, it appears that Al-Bashir’s future as president of Sudan is in jeopardy.

IGBERE TV gathered Thursday morning that in addition to these developments, Khartoum’s International Airport has been shut down, with the military arresting a number of top leaders.

IGBERE TV reports that Sudan has been rocked by persistent protests since December 19, sparked by the government's attempt to increase the price of bread, and an economic crisis that has led to fuel and cash shortages.

The crisis has escalated since the weekend, when thousands of demonstrators began camping out outside the Defence Ministry compound in central Khartoum, where Bashir's residence is located.

Clashes erupted on Tuesday between soldiers trying to protect the protesters and intelligence and security personnel trying to disperse them. “At least 11 people died in the clashes, including six members of the armed forces”, the Information Minister said citing a police report.

Opposition figures have called for the military to help negotiate an end to Bashir's nearly three decades in power and a transition to democracy.

The demonstrators at the Defense Ministry had said that they wanted to submit a petition for the armed forces to take their side in their attempt to remove Bashir and his “Islamist-backed administration.”

IGBERE TV reports that the protests against Al-Bashir gained a boost last week after Algeria's ailing President Abdelaziz Bouteflika resigned in response to weeks of similar protests against his nearly 20-year rule.

Earlier this week, the US, Britain and Norway called for Sudanese authorities to respond to protesters demands.

“The Sudanese authorities must now respond and deliver a credible plan for this political transition,” the three countries said in a joint statement.

Al-Bashir, an Islamist and former Army officer, seized power in a coup in 1989. He had remained resistant to giving up power in the face of protests, saying that change can only come through elections.

IGBERE TV gathered that Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes and genocide committed during the conflict in Darfur.

Unknown gunmen on Saturday night whisked away the Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Rasaki Musibau :Pand about nine others along the popular Epe-Itokin road, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The incident, Igbere TV gathered, occurred while the Fire Service Chief and others were returning to Lagos from Epe.

Igbere TV learnt that the kidnappers had blocked the Itokin bridge, ambushing occupants of a Sienna, Corolla and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).

In a related development, Igbere TV learnt that occupants of an interstate bus were also kidnapped on Saturday after the vehicle dropped off some passengers along the road.

A source said the interstate bus had stopped to drop off a passenger at Ejirin, where some other persons standing on the road joined the vehicle enroute Lagos, “but unknown to the driver, those who entered the bus were kidnappers.”

Saturday’s development comes on the heels of other similar incident of kidnappings and armed banditry on the Epe-Itokin road.

Igbere TV recalls that the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Mr Samson Ajijedidun was on March 1, kidnapped by the criminals and only released after ransom was paid.

Reacting, the Police Spokesman in Lagos, DSP Bala Elkana said seven persons including the Fire Service boss were kidnapped from three vehicles.

He added that investigation into the incident had begun.

A woman conveying her daughter to school in Ogun State, has reportedly drowned after the private vehicle she was driving skidded off the expressway and plunged into the river.

Igbere TV gathered that the incident happened on Sunday at the dual carriage bridge between Ososa and Odogbolu stretch of the Sagamu-Ore expressway.

Igbere TV learnt that her daughter was, however, rescued from the water.

She is a student of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State.

The Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, told newsmen that the vehicle was coming from Lekki in Lagos and going to Ijebu-Ode when the accident occurred.

Akinbiyi added that mother and daughter were the only occupants of the vehicle and that the woman was conveying her daughter, who is a student of TASUED, to school at the time but lost control of the wheel and plunged into the river.

“The woman was taking her daughter back to school. As a result of over speeding, the woman lost control of the vehicle and plunged the vehicle into the river”, he said.

“The driver, who is the woman and mother of the lady, lost her life, while the daughter is receiving treatment at the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital.”

Igbere TV learnt that the accident vehicle had been evacuated from the river and moved to the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) of the Nigeria Police, Odogbolu Divisional Police Headquarters of the state.

The Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Ahmed Lawal on Sunday insisted that power must shift to the Southern part of Nigeria in 2023.

Igbere TV reports that Lawal made the assertions in an interview with newsmen in Yola, the Adamawa State capital.

He was reacting to a statement credited to the immediate past Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and a former member of the House of Representatives, Junaid Mohammed, where the duo said the North would retain power in 2023.

Igbere TV recalls that Lawal had stated that it was not compulsory for the North to cede power to the South In 2023, adding that every part of the country was qualified to produce a President for the country.

On if Deputies should always succeed their Principals like Osinbajo succeeding Buhari in 2023, the former SGF said it was not constitutional neither is it a principle recognized by law.

On his part, Mohammed said that the North will present a candidate for 2023 presidential election, as “zoning and rotation of power have collapsed, and as such any region with the political strength can claim the coveted position.”

Reacting to their statements, however, the APC Organizing Secretary stressed the need to demonstrate fairness in the polity, adding that the Southern part of Nigeria supported the Northern part to retain power for eight years.

He, therefore, advised the APC to ensure power rotation in 2023 to enhance national cohesion.

“We must rotate power to southern Nigeria for the spirit of equity, fairness and harmony.

“As far as Nigerian unity is concerned, power shift must become a stabilising principle so that no region will feel relegated and oppressed politically.

“It was instructive that our political leaders sought support from Southerners while APC was mobilising during 2015 election.

“It is glaring that they cooperated well as no southern APC politician contested the primary election during 2015 and even in 2019.

“If we want to be fair to them, let’s allow them to have a feel of power come 2023.

“It is also instructive that those singing Northern power retention cannot speak for the North because they are not authorized.

“As you can see some of them who claim to be members of the APC, worked against the party in the just concluded governorship election to build up PDP to be able to achieve their sinister agenda”, Lawal said.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has departed Nigeria for Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, Igbere TV has learnt.

This comes less than 72 hours after President Muhammadu Buhari left Abuja for Saudi Arabia to participate in the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa holding at the Dead Sea, Jordan.

Osinbajo is expected to join other world leaders, top government functionaries and invited dignitaries to participate as a Special Guest in the events marking the 25th National Commemoration of the Genocide against the Tutsi holding today, April 7, in Kigali.

The Kigali Genocide Memorial documents the 1994 mass killings in Rwanda, associated with the country’s civil war.

Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

Akande listed some of the activities lined up for the event to include: the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Wreaths laying ceremony and Lighting of the Flame by the President of the Republic of Rwanda and Special Guests.

Igbere TV recalls that April 7, 1994, marked the beginning of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda perpetrated by the Hutu extremist-led government.

The United Nations General Assembly in 2003, officially recognized April 7 as the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda.

Abia State Governor, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, has dissolved the Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Igbere TV reports.

Though, no reason was given for their dissolution, the governor, however, directed members of the board to immediately hand over to the most senior staff in the establishment.

In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of Abia Government House, Elder Bernard Ogbonna, and obtained by Igbere TV, the Governor expressed appreciation to members of the board for their contributions “to the growth of the education sector in the state”, and wished them well in their future endeavors.

In a related development, Governor Ikpeazu also directed the immediate dissolution of the Body of Political Appointees in the state.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun has described the Federal High Court judgment nullifying the candidacy of Sen. Ademola Adeleke as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 2018 gubernatorial elections as a victory for the state.

The party in a statement issued on Wednesday in Osogbo and made available to Igbere Tv by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Kunle Oyatomi, said that Osun deserved a better personality as governor.

Days ago, Igbere Tv reports that a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory had nullified the candidacy of Adeleke as the flag bearer of the PDP in the September 2018 gubernatorial election.

The court, presided over by Justice Othman Musa, made the decision after it ruled that Adeleke failed to prove in court that he graduated from a secondary school as required by Section 177 of the Nigerian constitution.

Adeleke had contested the election against other candidates, including APC’s Adegboyega Oyetola.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyetola winner after a rerun election was conducted in the state on Sept. 27.

The statement said the state had produced intellectual giants and exceptionally brilliant businessmen and technocrats, including jurists of international standard.

It said the state “was too civilised to have a Ademola Adeleke as governor, adding that “fortunately for Osun, we can depend on Nigeria’s jurisprudence to uphold justice at the most critical point.’’

“We hope that the Appeal Court handling Osun governorship dispute will take judicial notice of this judgment that has practically disqualified Ademola Adeleke from the governorship position,” the statement said.

Our source who plead anonymity, revealed that after a meeting held in the Presidential villa on Wednesday night, between the party national leader, Bola Tinubu, the national Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Mr. President, the President expressed worries of what truly went wrong in Abia.

While in the meeting, it was said that revelations came up as the Abia governor Okezie Ikpeazu spent over N15B Abia money in chasing his re-election bid. It was gathered that one Mr. Uche brought the governor to the new Inspector General of police whom the governor struck a deal with for $500,000 USD, while the governor paid advance of $200,000 USD cash.

The stories of how some of the monies were shared to some people in the villa to make sure APC was rigged out in Abia also surfaced and this made the President very furious.

Our source also revealed that the national chairman told the President and the party leader that most of the party leaders from the Southern part of the State have been alleged to have taken money from the governor and went to sleep on the day of the elections, because they are from the same zone and want their brother to complete his tenure, not minding his poor performance in the State.

The Lagos State Police command has nabbed a suspected illegal fuel bunker with multiple sacks laden with Premium Motor Spirits (PMS), in the Canoe area of Ejigbo, Igbere Tv reports.


According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, the culprit was apprehended on Thursday, 28 March, during a routine patrol, after spotting a Fiat Bus with two contrasting colours: painted in Lagos commercial colour at the front while the rest was painted in blue. In the course, two others escaped.


According to reports gathered by Igbere Tv, Elkana said that the suspect, Wasiu Oyewole, confessed to loading a bus with multiple sacks laden with PMS which they got from a bust NNPC pipeline in Owutu area of Agric in Ikorodu, while their intended sales point was Ijegun.


The police spokesman confirmed that efforts were ongoing to track down other accomplices who ran off.

The Supreme Court in Abuja on Friday upheld the Court of Appeal judgment declaring Donald Duke as the Social Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2019 general elections.


The presidential and the National Assembly elections held on February 9, with incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari already declared winner.


The judgment was delivered by the Supreme Court presided over by Justices Ejembi Eko, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Amiru Sanusi, Paul Galumje and Uwani Aji.


The court also awarded N3m in favour of Duke, Igbere Tv reports. The appellate court in January reinstated Duke as the SDP presidential flag bearer after overturning the ruling of the FCT High Court that disqualified him as the party’s flag bearer.


During the party’s primary held on October 6, 2018, Duke had polled 812 votes to defeat his rival, Prof. Jerry Gana, who polled 611.


However, Gana was dissatisfied with the result and had approached an FCT High Court seeking to disqualify Duke as the party’s presidential candidate, Igbere Tv reports.


On December 14, 2018, an FCT High Court declared Gana the winner of the party’s presidential primary and Duke had appealed the ruling and won.

The police from Zone 2 Command has arrested a 48-year-old herbalist identified as Ibukun Moses, while attempting to sell human parts.


According to reports gathered by Igbere Tv, the body parts allegedly belong to a lady identified as Toyin who was brought to the herbalist for treatment but died of an undisclosed illness.


Immediately after her death, Igbere Tv learnt that investigation revealed that the herbalist contacted her family to come and take her for burial. The family then agreed to bury her in a cemetery which the herbalist took them to.


However, after the burial was concluded, the herbalist returned to the cemetery to exhume her corpse, cut off her head, the two hands and some other vital organs. Upon his arrest the suspect confessed to have done the act because he needed to sell the body parts to make money he needed.


The AIG in charge of Zone 2, AIG LAWAL SHEHU has directed the detectives to ensure proper prosecution.

The Imo state governor, Rochas Okorochas, before the Federal High Court in Abuja, has filed a suit against INEC, challenging the authority of the electoral body to withhold his Certificate of Return as the senator-elect for Imo West senatorial district, Igbere Tv reports.


Recall that the commission refused to issue him the certificate of return after Professor Francis Ibeawuchi, the Returning Officer for the February 23rd election, said he announced Okorocha as the winner of the senatorial election "under duress".


The suit was filed by his counsel, Kehinde Ogunwumiju (SAN), Okorocha made the plaintiff made INEC the sole defendant in the suit.


However, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, the presiding judge, by the agreement of the counsels involved in the case, made an order permitting Jones Onyeriri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the election and Senator Osita Izunaso of the All Progressives Grand Alliance to be joined as the 2nd and 3rd defendants.


Both candidates of the other parties were represented by their lawyers: Nwafor Orizu for Izunaso, Emeka Etiaba (SAN) for Onyeriri. INEC was represented by Mrs. Wendy Kuku.


Justice Taiwo ordered the defendants to file and exchange their processes within 10 days, while the plaintiff's counsel was given three days to respond to them.


The case was adjourned till April 5, Igbere Tv reports.

The Hausa community in Abia state in an interview with Igbere Tv has disclosed the main reason they voted the ex governor of the state, Orji Kalu in the just concluded National Assembly election in the state.


Alhaji Isiaka Adamu, one of the leaders of Hausa community in Abia state while chatting with Igbere Tv correspondent, said they believe that there should be cooperation between the state and the federal government.


"We voted for APC Abia North senatorial candidate, Orji Kalu in the national assembly election because we believe he would bring about positive impact in the state," he said.


When pressed for the reason why they made their choice of candidate, Alhaji Bala Abubakar


“For senate, I voted for our former governor, Dr. Orji Kalu because I like him, and he likes people and I saw his works. I have been living in Abia for about twenty one years. When OUK was a governor. We have our mosque, he is the one that built it, that is the central mosque in Abia state.”


“Every reasonable person that was fully on ground when PDP and APC candidates were making their promises, that person will know that voting the other side of the party will land us into avert big problem. For me personally I voted Buhari and the reason I also voted other legislative members from senate to House of Representatives was because of the antecedence between Saraki and Buhari. I voted for Nkechi Nworgu.” Alhaji Isiaka Adamu said.



“Nkechi Nworgu gave us bore hole water in our mosque in the past when she was in the senate” another member of the community Yahaya added.


He continued. “Orji Uzor Kalu is a man with a difference, when he was governor, he carried the Hausa people along, not just that, and he did a lot of things for us from the north in Abia state”


“He built the cattle market when we were sacked from Imo state, Okigwe. It was Orji Uzor Kalu that rescued our people by resettling our people in the cattle market in Lukpanta, and you can go there and see things for yourself. That cattle market is the largest cattle market in this part of the country. Orji Uzor Kalu gave us that market without collecting a dine from us, we didn’t pay one kobo to government. We have the largest settlement of Hausa in that market”


“The onions market at Aba, Urata, it’s along the express road. That Onions market was given to us by Orji Uzor Kalu, free of charge, and it is the largest Onion market you can have around here. Our traders are free to trade freely in that place.”


“Orji Uzor Kalu did a lot to ensure we had harmonious peace among our host community. He carried us along to the extent that he also gave us appointment, he gave some of us appointment in the government when he was the governor of Abia state and that is the first time this community has ever experienced that kind of appointment.” Alhaji Muhammed Adam said.


According Alhaji sanusi Idris; “Orji Kalu is not going to be just an ordinary senator, He is going to be an extra ordinary senator, and I am calling on other APC senators to support Orji Kalu to become the next senate president. I call on all APC caucus to zone that senate seat to the south east. Orji Kalu is the best candidate. The reason is because he is a detribalized Nigerian. He also has the well withal to pilot the affairs of the National assembly.

Former Governor of Abia State and Senator-elect, Abia North Senatorial district, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged the people of Abia to vote for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday March 9 governorship and State House of Assembly elections, Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that Kalu made the call on Wednesday during a campaign rally of the APC candidate for Bende North State Constituency, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu.

Speaking in Item community hall, venue of the rally, Kalu urged the electorates to come out en masse to vote for the party’s guber candidate, Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah, and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State House of Assembly election.

The former governor said this was necessary for the people of the state to “enjoy real dividends of democracy.”

He said it was in the best interest of the people to vote APC candidates in the state, as this will attract meaningful developments they enjoyed during his time as governor including free education.

He insisted that Uche Ogah is the best candidate for the job, while assuring the people that he (Ogah) would run an “all inclusive government and people oriented projects.”

Kalu said, “I want you all to ensure you keep your voter cards safely; your voter card is your power. Vote APC so that we will continue to develop agriculture, youth empowerment, health and education.

“We will ensure that all projects that have direct bearing to your lives are executed. We (APC) value our people, we are not like those who owe salaries and build infrastructures on radio.

“When I was governor, salaries were paid on the 20th of every month. Today, workers are being owed, even my pension as former governor were withheld. Look at Abia State University, parents cannot afford the tuition fee. They (the present govt) keep increasing the fee but cannot point to one meaningful development in that school. Lecturers are being owed, workers are being laid off. I paid 13th month salary as governor, but that cannot be said of the present administration.

“This is why we must vote Dr. Uche Ogah as governor, as well as every other APC candidates in the State House of Assembly for us to enjoy meaningful developments in the state.”

Speaking further, Dr. Kalu thanked the people for their mandate and promised never to disappoint them.

Also speaking, the APC House of Representatives elect for Bende Federal Constituency, Barr. Benjamin Kalu, thanked the people for their mandate and charged them to vote in Uche Ogah to ensure rapid transformation of the state.

Kalu decried the poor state of infrastructure in the state, saying that Abia has not witnessed any meaningful development since Orji Uzor Kalu left office in 2007.

He berated the incumbent Governor Okezie Ikpeazu led-administration for failing to utilise the state’s resources to transform the state, and expressed confidence that Ogah as a businessman, would replicate his breakthrough in business in governance, if elected.

In his speech, the APC candidate for Bende North State Constituency, Chijioke Chukwu, called on the people of Abia to reject Ikpeazu as governor come March 9, adding that “Uche Ogah has come to the rescue.”

He said, “My people of Item, we must all reject liars and debtors in our state come March 9. Vote me into the State House of Assembly, and elect Uche Ogah as Governor to for meaningful development in our land.”

The popular saying that “there are no enemies in politics...” came to play on Monday as former Governor of Abia State and Senator-elect, Abia North Senatorial district, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu met with a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and 2nd runner up in the Abia North election, Chief David Ogba (Bourdex), Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV reports that the former governor polled a total of 31,203 votes to defeat incumbent Senator Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party, who polled 20,801 vote and APGA’s Bourdex 11,410.

Dr. Kalu who had just returned to the state after a visit to the nation’s capital, Abuja arrived the residence of Bourdex in Abriba at exactly 7:15pm.

He was received by the APGA’s chieftain, and immediately proceeded for a closed-door meeting.

Speaking on reasons for his visit, Kalu recalled his long apolitical relationship with Bourdex while also stating his resolve and total readiness to establish a formidable collaboration for the growth of Abia North and the state at large.

According to Kalu, he had maintained a long standing family ties with Bourdex despite their political differences.

In his words, “Beyond our political affiliations, Bourdex and I are brothers. In fact, his family and mine have maintained close ties for many years. His children and my children are best of friends to the extent that they visit each other often.

“Elections had been conducted and a winner has been democratically chosen. Irrespective of our political differences, we've decided to join hands to move Abia North and the state forward.

“As stakeholders in our various political parties, we have realised that there is so much to be done especially in the area of infrastructure and empowerment of our people in Abia North because the people have suffered enough. We have decided to jointly work together towards the emancipation of our people.

Speaking further, Kalu reiterated his commitment to use his position as a Senator to facilitate rapid development to, not just the senatorial zone alone, but Abia state in general.

Responding, APGA’s chieftain and senatorial candidate, Chief David Ogba corroborated Kalu’s earlier statement by recalling their long standing relationship.

He also stated his willingness to work with Dr. Kalu for the progress of Abia North and Abians in general.

He said, “Although Dr. Kalu and I belong to different political party, we have both come a very long way.
