Some of our very good friends who like to look for problems in a certain no 8 every year convinced us that problems do not lie in our inept defensive midfielder but in our no 8. Quicker legs have been supporting this defensive midfielder yet problems persist and defending is even worse than before. Chelsea have never conceded goal at such rate as they have over the last month in the 16 years I have been following the team. These days it seems all opposition have to do is cut the ball back from the byline to the penalty box to score. You would not see any midfielder closing down the player running on to the cut back. This so-called defensive midfielder is often to be found in advanced position these days bursting into the box quite often recently only to produce diddly squat at the end. Can't defend, can't attack. Even the freedom that Ramires offers him recently to go forward is wasted cos he lacks cutting edge in the final third, then is to be seen jogging back laboriously (although he's actually running at full speed). If it was the hated no 8 who actually gets forward effectively and still gets back much quicker, he would be accused of bombing forward. Abeg make una help me free Mikel oh! According to textbook theory the defence should have improved with Ramires alongside him to do his running for him, but it's getting worse. When your point man is lethargic, nothing can save him. Some wanted to use the point mans failings to scapegoat the fat no 8 but like I said, time proves all truths. |
Thank you Moses. Glad to see the back of Shakhtar |
When man talk about Hazard abysmal defending dem go say na yarn. Dem think say na joke man dey joke when I said we cannot afford hazardous defending in Chelsea. Can they afford to get knocked out in group stage? Meanwhile what's the difference between Chelsea and the far superior Shakhtar in this game? Swap Mikel for Fernandinho and you have your answer. Mikel nowhere to be seen when Shakhtar is counterattacking whilst Fernandinho is always there. That's what a central midfielder in an attacking. 4-2-3-1 outfit is supposed to look like. |

Sybellah: Chelsea should consider Doumbia instead, it has unbelievable pace and high quality shoot precision. More expensive than Bony but worth it.Doumbia is better than Bony but his age is also questionable! Hes been playing professional football for 9 years and claiming 24. That akpu face cannot be 24 years old. |

Some fantasy flicksters think STRENGTH is overrated, but even Torres teammates are now calling him WEAKLING!!! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2228105/Fernando-Torres-dumped-Wilfried-Bony-says-Chelsea-loanee.html Dump Torres for my pal Bony! Chelsea loanee Kalas urges Blues to buy Vitesse star One of Chelsea's fringe players has hit out at striker Fernando Torres and urged the club to move for Ivory Coast hotshot Wilfried Bony, Dutch football's hottest property. Torres endured another difficult afternoon as the Blues lost top spot in the Premier League with a draw at Swansea on Saturday. Meanwhile, Vitesse forward Bony was bagging both goals as his unfashionable outfit beat defending Eredivisie champions Ajax in Amsterdam. I've got a better option: Wilfried Bony should replace Fernando Torres at Chelsea, according to one of the club's young stars on loan with the Ivorian at Vitesse The goals, coming either side of half-time, were his 11th and 12th of the league season that has seen him draw comparisons with former Chelsea star Didier Drogba. And now Tomas Kalas, who is on loan at Vitesse Arnhem from Stamford Bridge, claims his parent club should move for the Ivorian if they are looking for a more reliable man to lead the line. Speaking to Goal.com, the 19-year-old Czech, said: 'Chelsea need a player like Wilifried Bony at the moment. Torres is always moving and works hard, but he is not strong enough to lead the line. I'm sorry for Torres, but that's my personal opinion. 'Bony has so much quality. It's incredible how strong he is and he's excellent on the ball, too. I can understand why he has been linked with Chelsea and other clubs. 'It will be impossible for Vitesse to hold on to him if he keeps this up. Perhaps we'll play together at Chelsea in the future. That would be great. 'We haven't spoken about a transfer yet, but it would be nice to play alongside him at Stamford Bridge in a while.' Earlier, Swansea defender Garry Monk has branded Chelsea's £50million man overpriced. Although the 33-year-old club captain was trying to offer the misfiring striker some support, Monk's words merely damned Torres with faint praise. 'He clearly has quality, but there are hundreds of players overpriced,' said Monk. 'That is not his fault, that Chelsea paid that sort of money for him. He will feel that on his shoulders. 'Once you don't perform everyone is on your back. I didn't give him a yard.' The 33-year-old was right - Torres was completely ineffectual on a wet and wild day at the Liberty Stadium. It was the third match in a row in which Torres has performed extremely poorly. Against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League he looked unsure of himself and his footing - he was cumbersome in possession and frequently slipped over. Torres was then ineffectual against Manchester United - his greatest contribution to the game was to be unfairly sent off when Mark Clattenburg though he had dived. But the frustration lies in the fact that at times this season he has roared into life - against Arsenal in September he was the force which Roman Abramovich thought he was shelling out for. Daniel Sturridge's return from injury offers Roberto Di Matteo an alternative to Torres, who has started all 10 Premier League matches this season. Sturridge featured in the suspended Torres' stead last Wednesday against Man United in the Capital One Cup. Although he seemed rusty, having barely featured this season, his sheer pace could make him a better fit for the lighting quick attacking triumverate of Mata, Oscar and Hazard. The longer the match went on the better he looked, finally scoring in extra time after capitalising on a poor header back to the goalkeeper by Scott Wootton. |
#Torreswatch = 3 good games in 15. I think we should just abandon this Torreswatch now. Its becoming obvious that the judgement is final on dude. And I thought he would at least get some easy tap-ins with the kinda players behind him, but he has a larger appetite for failure than I imagined. When we were winning and others were doing the job, shekpe-lovers were happy to ignore his poor play. Now we need him to chip in, he cannot and we're dropping points. What happened to this picture? https://i.imgur.com/y2VTm.gif I thought some peops said that "now we have players who understand his movements, he's sure to pop goals." ![]() |
The underwear I am wearing now has been on me for the last three days. They are called longjohns, designed to keep my blockos warm in this freezing weather. I dont believe I should have to change them as often as normal pant.

Who wants to play for a team that keeps picking a hundred players. Different players every match. You cannot even tell if some of dem paid egunje to be in the squad. NFF dey pick different players, coach dey pick different players, dem dey change coach every year. Nobody is actually building a team, just freestyling every game as it comes. Why Osaze no go vex when pregnant 40-year old Yakubu was huffing and puffing on the pitch when he is on the bench, all because say Yakubu get connection. If na you, you no go demoralise? Double post. . . |
coogar: so you mean lampard would have averted that if he was in mikel's shoes? come on - you are not catching chicharito.....the moment anderson got the ball, the only thing was if he could find chicharito with right pass - from then on, scoring is inevitable! look at the angle of the pass - it was not towards mikel, it was towards chicharito....applaud the pass, don't blame mikel!!Mikel has already made the wrong move before Anderson plays the pass. At the time Luiz lost the ball, he was 10 yards goalside of Hernandez. See the ball travelling on its way to Anderson, everything is in control - Mikel has 10 yards on Chicarito. https://i49.tinypic.com/vi1j45.jpg Between then and Anderson's pass. . . (1.) Chicarito has drifted wide from him as the situation is developing and Mikel does not match his run or position his body to chase him - thats the first mistake! (2.) By the time Chicarito is running, Mikel is still turning. Thats why defenders employ side-on defending. He is square-on, and before he turns his body to move, Chicarito is already in full gear. I know Lampard, Ramires or Romeuy are not that unaware of danger or so inert. Any of em would have stopped that goal with 10 yards on Chicarito. In my book, thats what we call poor defending. 25 goals conceded in 14 games Mikel has played now. Perhaps we have to park Ramires, Lampard or Romeu on the 18-yard box to cover him as anything else may be construed as them "bombing forward" and not covering Mikel. Could that situation have developed with say Nigel De Jong in Mikel's position? I dont have problem with Mikel's game. He is what he is, a slow player although very technically gifted. What I wont have are peeps convincing me that everyone else is bombing forward just because Mikel does not have the pace, movement or body flexibility to deal with a straightforward situation for other defensive midfielders. |
Cahill who was 10 yards away from Chicarito in picture 2 is now on his back by picture 4. Mikel who had ten yard head-start on Chicarito in picture 2 is now 5 yards behind him in picture 4. In picture 2, Mikel is standing 5 yards from the arc of the eighteen yard box. In picture 4, Mikel is still just approaching the arc of the eighteen yard box. Chicarito has covered 15 yards and Mikel just 5 from Picture 2 to Picture 4. Replicate this kinda inertia by Mikel over the season and you will see why Chelsea have conceded 25 goals in the 14 games he has played this season. He is not only slow, he is too inert to turn his body around in developing situations. |
Luiz pulls wide to receive the ball from Cech. Mikel drops into the centre-back position. Common move in football when the centre-backs pull wide. Mikel is now the CB. https://i45.tinypic.com/23sbxax.jpg Chicarito is now Mikel's responsibility if anything goes wrong. https://i45.tinypic.com/ta546d.jpg Light jogging. . . space is already opening up. . . https://i50.tinypic.com/20usjrm.jpg The kinda goal you concede when your DM does not have the legs. . . Cahill is now in charge, but its too late. . . Chicarito has covered 15 yards of space and Mikel barely 5. . . GOAL!!! https://i46.tinypic.com/w9bq78.jpg |
I thought the defence is supposed to improve when Lampard is sidelined. . . . but its getting worse! We all know Mikel cant run, which is the reason why he shouldnt be saddled with the responsibility of covering the players in our current system. Fantastic player on the ball yes, but in open space, he is just a liability. You never see him in the camera vision whenever Chelsea is being counterattacked, probably on the halfway line huffing and puffing somewhere. I said it from day one that Mikel is the reason we are not defensively solid but some people made us believe as soon as Lampard is out, these problems would evaporate, yet they keep getting worse. We have now conceded 18 goals in 14 games excluding Atletico and Man City match and Mikel is the only constant midfielder throughout all these. Regarding the Chicarito goal, yes, Luiz lost the ball. No goal has to be one players fault alone. Culpability can lie with more than one player for a cock-up. When Luiz stepped up into midfield, Mikel covered him and dropped on Chicarito. It happens everytime a defender steps out with the ball. It is part of the job description for a defensive midfielder. Where was Mikel when Chicarito received the ball? 10 yards behind, huffing and puffing as usual, barely breaking into a light jog. |
mufasa: Well I'm sure Mikel wasn't expecting the poor throw by Cech. I don't think any one will expect to be defending from his own keeper's throw/kick.I ain't much concerned about the first goal. Look at the second goal. Luiz steps up into midfield, Mikel drops back to cover. Mikel is marking Chicarito. By the time Chicarito receives the ball, Mikel is nowhere to be seen. Skinned alive with one movement, sotay Gary Cahill comes across but its too late. Last month, if Chelsea concede one goal, they would say it because some old man in midfield is bombing forward. I wonder which old man in midfield is causing 3 goals against almost every game these days. Is it the old man who was at Pepsi Academy with PSquare and now claiming to be 25? ![]() |
The way we are conceding goals these days, one has to wonder. Few weeks ago it was all Lampard's fault. I wonder whether Romeu and Ramires are "bombing forward" too much abi some people just can't run. Some people even wrote article claiming the central midfield is indefatiguable laying plaudits here and there According to guys on goal.com: It was a poor ball from Cech to Romeu who was put immediately under pressure, but when they showed replays from different camera angles Mikel AGAIN as a holding midfielder let Giggs (who was standing beside him) have a free run to finally dispossess Romeu and he just stood still. he was supposed to be covering Chicharito when Anderson puts through a great through ball but Mikel is 5mtrs away from the player he was supposed to be marking. You never see Mikel sprint, ever, he just sort of ambles about, he is technically quite gifted but as soon as he is in space he is vulnerable. He had good games against Barca and Bayern because we "parked the bus" and he never had to cross the half way line, and with so many other players defending deep there was limited space he had to cover. In more open play he gets exposed a lot because he is lazy, he MUST pick up the opposition runs but NEVER does and they inevitably lead to goals. |
Sturridge wasn't sharp but what is expected from someone who hasn't played all season and just returned from injury. He said so himself after the match. Still he scored At least we can compare goal records. Sturridge scored 13 goals in half a season on the right wing. What is Torres record at Chelsea in comparison? |
FBS: To my e-folks and e-brothers, e-friends and fellow Chelsea folks, - your guy FBS is in flying mode right now. Daddy X2!GBAM!!!! Congrats bro. |
Clattenberg was wrong cos he used guesswork to determine if Torres dived or not. He was 30 yards away, and the fact that there was contact means you cannot yellow card the player because it is guesswork from that far away to decide if the contact was enough to bring him down. Meanwhile, its becoming obvious the guy is too immature to ref and had his own agenda: Chelsea lodge complaint over alleged Clattenburg comments The Blues accuse the 37-year-old, who showed their side two red cards during Sunday's defeat to Manchester United, of "inappropriate language" towards a pair of their players Chelsea have lodged an official complaint to the Premier League over alleged comments from referee Mark Clattenburg during their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday. The Blues are accusing the 37-year-old of using "inappropriate language" towards two of their players. "We have lodged a complaint to the Premier League match delegate with regards to inappropriate language used by the referee and directed at two of our players in two separate incidents in today's match," a club spokesman announced after the game. "The match delegate will pass the complaint to the Football Association. "We will make no further comment at this time." Clattenburg sent off two Chelsea players, Branislav Ivanovic and Fernando Torres, during the match at Stamford Bridge, with home manager Roberto Di Matteo laying the blame for their loss at his feet. The Serbian defender was dismissed for a professional foul on Ashley Young before the £50 million striker received a second yellow card for what the official interpreted as a dive under the challenge of Jonny Evans. |
No player scored 10 points this week pre-bonus. |
nateevs: In short, Eden Hazard cost us the game. Okay, that's a new one.Guy face front abeg. I don't know who brought you into this conversation. Was it RDM tactics for Hazard to inexplicably start running forward with no sense of danger at all when Mata lost possession on the first goal. So was he running to start another counterattack despite the fact he was the deepest defender on the left hand side? If it was not his duty to chase Rafael why did he chase him all the way albeit 2 seconds too late? Was it RDM tactics that got him dropped by Belgium manager for the very same thing? I would never accept laissez faire behaviour from Chelsea player unless he is Maradona. I don't need to dislike a player to point out the obvious. That's why FBS said "Hazard -2" during the match cos he knows who was responsible. Now get your uninvited self off ma posts. |

That's what separates great players from others and why likes of Ozil will get dropped in tough games and neymar should be dropped in some games also. You have boys like cazorla, kagawa and such who also hustle. I could go on and on. Mata cannot tackle to save his life but I can't remember the last time a full back got the run on him to cause a goal. Everygame these days we always see hazard ten yards behind a right back before seeing Chelsea concede a goal. I remember that Joe Cole literally won Chelsea the 05/06 championship yet JM continued putting pressure in him. Hazard needs to come under the same. A player causing 4 goals directly in just 14 matches is unacceptable statistics. I am sure there are more than 4 sef. These are just the ones I remember directly. If you don't teach this boy now he will never learn. How come we haven't seen such goals coming down Matas wing this season? Mata had to learn all of this last year. |

No moaning here. The boys played well. A player who causes a goal against every three games should be taught a lesson. All these one about what he's contributed in easy games na yarns only because Chelsea don't have another tiki taka guy on the bench. If na Belgium him day now, rdm woulda taught him a lesson by dropping him after such a woeful defensive performance. Afterall how many times does Mourinho pull out the whip on Ozil despite his stats? Some of us don't brook such nonsense. The first goal today, he was in left -back position, he played the ball to Mata who was robbed, then he inexplicably started running upfront like he didn't just see that Mata had been robbed and he was the only man in left -back position to stop united. Second goal he was 20 yards behind Rafael directly causing the goal as Ashley had to leave Valencia to challenge Rafael. So despite all yarns, he cost us the game today. Who is he not to be taught a lesson? Is Belgium coach mad? Maybe he should start putting in more efforts like the players who are "built like towers" ![]() |
Aba roads have always been poor. I was shocked when my dad took me to Ariaria in the early 90s. This one I'm seeing here is even better than back then. |
