BlueRayDick: Well whatever their motivation is, one thing is obvious ; they weren't wrong blowing the whistle on NNPC's shiiit show. An independent media outfit has confirmed that the whole razzmatazz by NNPC was just a smokescreen to cover yet another failure on their part. No I believe the youths This is more of a tribal issue as to why Eleme youths always feel the need to comment and be seen as the host community on a refinery that straddles both our communities. The reality is that my great great grandfather and his son after him owned or had agency over most of those lands which were forrested back in their time. He was the main warlord and strongest man in Okrika as well as King regent in the absence of the King who the British kidnapped. Eleme dare not put their name on forested land bordering him when he was running things. |

LordAdam16: Not in the middle of a war. In Russia of all places.
Peacetime and wartime economic performances are appraised differently by the local population. You know this.
Your countrymen coined the "Keep Calm and Carry On" maxim. During existential wars, even democracies have a high tolerance. NATO operators in Ukraine are firing weapons that are killing Russian civilians in Russia. Let that sink in.
I can assure you that if Russian operators in Mexico were firing weapons killing American civilians in America, Americans will not revolt over 21% inflation. Replace America with any first world democracy and it'll be the same. Heck, Japan will suspend their self-imposed pacifism.
-Lord There is nothing existential about the war in Russia As far as the average Russian is concerned, a fly has not touched Russia because even the small attacks Ukraine have launched is blacked out in the media. Russians are simply under lock and key with no independent media to rile them up about the price of goods as they would be in an open society |

Singapore1: When you check other major currencies since 2021/2022, I could agree that the market was over-collateralized but Russia was also part of that market, and they would have been affected as well. Since 2021/2022, most major currencies have lost about 15% of their value. So, when you subtract the average 15% loss in value from the 60% decline of the Russian currency, the war effectively accounts for a 45% drop in its value. 45% is not beans for a 1st world economy, however you are being disingenuous with timelines Stockmarket bottomed Dec 2022 From 1st Dec 2022 to now, CAD is down 8% 1st Dec 2022 to now, Yen is down 10% 1st Dec 2022 to now, Ruble is down 70% Neither CAD nor YEN have imposed capital restrictions prohibiting the sale of their currency umpteen times, neither have 21% interest rates (Japan 0.25%, Canada 3.75%) and neither have spent $80bln of their Sovereign Wealth fund Someone is running at full speed while the other two are strolling and dusting him handsomely. |

Singapore1: That is why I emphasized on the sanctions. Contrary to what many belief, there isn’t a single country that can withstand sanctions imposed by the West. the fact that we are comparing them to non sanction countries says a lot Oil resource is supposed to be a sanction buster and going by their propaganda, sanctions cannot hurt them as they have oil. According to them, they are doing even better going by their propaganda. So therefore they should judged on that propaganda, not pointing at sanctions. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Ibime(m): 8:11pm On Nov 27, 2024 |
LordAdam16: Russia had been aggressively "defending" the RUB all the way up from 60 to 100. That occurred over a year. The average for this year is ~90. Letting it dip to 110 after a fresh round of sanctions with a ceasefire almost in the bag is not particularly scandalous nor noteworthy.
No one in Russia is pretending that the sanctions haven't been a PITA. But all insinuations of an impending collapse is wildly exaggerated. Russia's manpower shortage exceeds 4 million. Like the economy is in danger of overheating because the unemployment rate is too low. That's been a force multiplier on the inflation you rage about.
I don't know how you look at that. Look at the scale of the brutal sanctions levied on them. China's dilly-dallying (We all know if the US was fighting a war on its border, G7 will be all in with support in all forms without reservations). And somehow think there's cause to mock Elvira and Putin. Please name the Western countries that would do better in Russia's shoes besides the US? Heck, the last 2 years has been rough for major industrialized countries not named the US. And they've not been pilloried by the most potent economic offensive since the fall of the Berlin War. Germany is chewing glass shards. China has stuck up a nasogastric tube to administer stimulus.
After this war ends next year, State, CFR, Brookings and the gang will have a come to Jesus moment about the efficacy of a severe sanctions regime with the goal of a wholesale rewrite of the rulebook for China. Make no mistake, the West fired an economic nuke on Russia and did Stinger-esque damage.
-Lord Oga 60 to 113 is a major drop for any 1st or 2nd world economy. That's nearly 100%. We do not expect Naija levels of drop of 300% but when your purchasing power is cut nearly 100% to the outside world, the pinch will be heavy. In any democracy or first world society, this is a catastrophe that would have led to revolt except in a dictatorship where everything is controlled. |

LordAdam16: Don't sweat it. Ibime has a hard on for a phantom Russian economic collapse since the war started.
This latest RUB drop was due to very recent sanctions. The initial response to new rounds of biting sanctions is always this rough and then things stabilize after a while. Surprised he drew attention to this with the "exhaustion" angle. He is easily one of the most qualified to speak on this topic on NL and it'll be a shame if he missed the obvi backdrop.
-Lord Nope, last time dollar briefly breached 100 RUB (hitting 104), there was an instant reaction within 24 hours with Putin ordering Elvira to tighten capital controls and stop all exchange of RUB into foreign currency and increase interest rates to 19%. Dollar has hit 99 RUB umpteen times this year and Elvira has always beat it back down to 95 RUB range which is her instruction from the top. Now dollar has breached 100 RUB for 4 days steady and accelerated to 113 RUB, interest rate is already at 21% (Banana Republic territory), Capital controls are already firmly in place to stop exchange of RUB, the only mechanism left is to buy rubles with their reserves which Elvira has been doing for the last 10 months to fight against that psychological mark of 100 RUB to $. For them to allow it go 4 days and breach 110 RUB means they are tired of defending. They will also need devaluation to keep up their military spending and payment of soldiers (which is in Rubles). Of course they will continue lying that inflation is only 9% while their currency has devalued 50% against Chinese Yuan (their major supplier) and while their interest rate is 21%, showing the true scale of their problem despite their lamba. |

Singapore1: I am against Putin, but I think he has performed beyond expectations given the sanctions, especially when you compare the USD to other currencies. Almost all currencies are trading as if they are equally sanctioned, including the Japanese Yen and CAD. Only the GBP and maybe the EUR have performed relatively well since the war started at the beginning of 2022. Na 2021 and early 2022 wey dollar sink everybody because US stockmarket was going down due to high interest rates. The stockmarket is so highly overcapitalised (tens of trillions in marketcap) that just the flight from stockmarket into dollar gives dollar too much weight against other currencies. Typically you would sell shares and hold T-bills, T-bonds or dollar. That's tens of trillions going into dollar. So when stockmarket goes down, dollar goes up. The reverse has been the case since mid 2022, stockmarket has been going up and all the major currencies have held their own against dollar since then. Stockmarket decline is the major factor that drove dollar growth in 2021 and early 2022 However since mid 2022 when stockmarket started rising again, that has not been the case. Yen and CAD have held parity since mid 2022, while Ruble has slid from 55 to 113. So no, Putin is not doing well. He sent a fortune in reserves fighting against 100 Rub to $ for the last 10 months only to fall 50% while Yen and CAD have more or less held parity from then. Illustrated below

I'm disappointed honestly. I thought the whole Malta blending story by Dangote was hoax and his own way of winning the people to his side with propaganda. Now this 🤦♂️
Well, as a common man who has no skin in the game, I will be patiently what all of these will translate to as regards pump price of PMS.
Whether Dangote will reduce his price further to compete with NNPC's blended PMS remains to be seen They actually confirmed Sowores story to the letter Both Sowore and NNPC are saying the exact same thing (they are producing Naphta in the old refinery of 60,000 barrells per day at reduced capacity and blending), the difference is in the colour of their commentary. |

GloriousGbola: I did a Google search. Kazakhstan has its own crude.
Also, how would the Russian product get to port Harcourt refinery? Does the refinery have a jetty? A vessel is going to bring millions of litres to port Harcourt refinery - where and how would this be discharged?
As far as I can recall, port Harcourt refinery received crude via pipeline (I stand to be corrected on this) Kazakhstan will still refine Russian crude if they have spare refining capacity just like UAE has been doing. Okrika jetty will bring in millions of litre no problem, and there is no disconnect between the pipelines from jetty to the refinery. It's only 2 miles of pipeline. My house in the village is directly opposite the refinery. Admittedly the flame from the refinery is slightly higher than it was 2 months ago but nothing close to what it was when the refinery was fully functional. The flame has never stopped burning by the way even when it was moribund. What they are doing now is painting the whole outside of the refinery which tells me there's a lamba going on. Nothing suppose concern painting with producing but in our usual Naija way, we would want to put lipstick on a pig to show fake workings. |

Even if you can't be bothered to read you should at least remember Kazakhstan from Borat.
Stop swallowing everything you see on twitter.
This is someone who is too lazy to identify Kazakhstan as an independent country. Kazakhstan may be refining Russian crude just like Malta and India Presently Urals oil is on average $15-$20 cheaper due to sanctions. Dangote cannot provide $15 added value per barrel from his refinery, so it's cheaper to blend Russian oil than buy Dangote oil. I never will believe the refinery is working, and I am 99% sure they are just blending. Dangote is fvcked up trying to do real business in a Gangster country. He is being undercut severely, he has no choice but to also blend. |
