nihilistjnr: Apparently Roman can still sell, only through the UK government, and will not receive a penny in compensation.
That's harsh af mehn. I'm also not sure how this helps the people in Ukraine he was planning to donate to
That was my thought. An asset freeze is usually for profit generating assets which Chelsea is not. Therefore the solution is for Roman to agree a sale but the money to go UK Govt to hold until sanctions are lifted. This is in the best interest of both parties, Govt doesn't have to fund running costs (or get the club to borrow to do so), while Chelsea can continue with normal operations
But what it does is turn the sale into a distress sale, meaning Roman will accept any amount
Actman05: Shirt sponsors Three are 'reviewing the situation and in discussions with #Chelsea' following Roman Abramovich's sanctioning.
 The Athletic
 @ChelseaFC_CFC
Another angle we didn't consider. Shirt sponsors are not getting value for money since the club cannot sign anyone and may have clauses in their contract to exit the agreement. UK Govt will throw Chelsea into financial distress by the time this is done. Chelsea Charitable Trust could have prevented this if they agreed to transfer of stewardship
Actman05: True but there are other players like RLC, Barkley even Pulisic.
It's not for Chelsea to decide who is sellable. Barkley is the type you have to pay to leave, not the type that generates transfer fee. Same with Bakayoko, Batman, RLC.to a certain extent etc
There is a small chance by God's grace we use this period to clear out deadwood from our bloated squad at loss, and UEFA maybe give us an exemption from FFP for this season. That's if any players are sold. Otherwise, we will owe Govt for any penny they spend during this period
donjazet: Ibime can you explain the full ramifications of a sanction? Legally, do you know how it works??
I'm seeing them stopping ticket sales, does this mean, Chelsea are now fully restricted from earning any sort of income?
Roman is simply barred from benefiting from any UK business
Stopping Chelsea from selling ticket is wicked as Roman doesn't make profits (benefit) from the club, the selling of ticket just reduces his loss. I'm not sure they've studied the finances because what they seized does not bring any benefit, it's a negative cashflow to be borne by the operator.
So to keep the club going, they will have to sell players so that by the time the Govt hands over, Govt outgoing is net zero. Either that or they will have to fund our running expense from Govt pocket.
At this point, it's a business and James is just an asset.
Whoever reasonable bid come in for is going. At this point, Marina is working for the Govt. Fully expect her to resign unless Roman lawyers advise the sanctions won't last long and she should wait till he regains control
A40: Hummels was a sentimental buy back from Dortmund, no other relevant club in Europe wanted him.
As far as National team Boateng was oft injured and dealing with poor fitness. From 2019 season onwards and everyone knew this.
The question is what has the impact of Hummels being? What has he done since joining an inferior team like Dortmund.
His calamitous defending knocked his team out of a group with Ajax and Sporting Lisbon, then they dropped to Europa and got disgraced by Rangers of all teams
And yet Lyon is languishing in midtable in French league, you are worrying about Dortmund
A40: Boatank has come seen and conquered. No rule says he must stay 100 years at Bayern. No be him papa get club. He has won 2 trebles and achieved everything to be achieved at the highest level. How many black players you sabi wey dey get lengthy career like that?
Mind you him also get extracurricular gbege that hastened his exit from Bayern. We didn't want a Mason Greenwood type level even though his offense was not to the alleged Greenwood case. But we couldn't take any chances
Him no get extracurricular anything. He was asked to leave strictly for football reason years before he killed that girl.
Just watched PSG highlights. How they lost that game after utterly dominating the first 60 minutes is a mystery. They should give up. UCL is not for them.
raumdeuter: Ribery Robben did not retire at Bayern, they were allowed to leave without extending their contracts
Ribery still plays till today and he still remains a Bayern legend
No top club wanted Hummels all through his career. He grew up in Bayern academy was sent away while Bayern got Boateng a few years later. At Hummels prime Bayern signed him and sent him out 3yrs later while Boateng stayed a decade at Bayern starting games till he left
Bayern is not a money miss road club that will use sentiments to be extending undeserving players like Terry ad neasuem. A player won't use fans to blackmail the team to extend them beyond their sell date
Boateng played for Bayern a tier 1 club for a decade as a starter winning 2 CL titles, don't you wish you can say the same for Terry and Hummels especially the CL title winning part?
Robben retired at Bayern. He only came out to play for his hometown club after retirement to help them through the pandemic.
He and Ribery stayed at Bayern till 35 which is way past sell-by date for a winger. Bayern have confirmed their legend status by allowing them to stay till that age AS WINGERS.
Top class centrebacks are allowed to stay till 35 easily if they are legends. Not being chased at 29 and finally leaving at 32 when contract finally expires.
Robben got a contract extension at 34, Ribery got a contract extension at 34, allowing them both to play till 35. If Ribery choose not to retire at that point, that's because he loves the game. Bayern have done everything feasible to allow him retire at 35 there. Boateng was asked to leave at 29 and hung around like a bad smell for 3 more years.
You just confirmed the difference between legends and carryalong.
raumdeuter: When Boateng was going to the world cup 2010 and finishing 3rd where was Hummels?
When Boateng was winning 2 treble where was this Hummels
Boateng at his peak won all titles in club and NT football we are still waiting for Hummels to win 1 CL
Long contract did not save Hummels from being expelled from Bayern twice. They didn't wait for his contract to expire he was chased out of the team
Hummels was wanted on open market, that's why he could exit where he was not wanted to where he was wanted
Boateng was made available for 3 years and was unwanted on market, till finally only Lyon would pick him on free transfer. Only lack of active market kept Boateng in Bayern. As you say money talks, and said everything we needed to know about how valued Boating was that nobody made a bid, so he hung around like a bad smell, a millstone on Bayern neck till they could finally free themselves of his contract. Legends contracts are extended, not asked to leave at 29, and not allowed to go disgrace themselves at Lyon. I wonder why Phillip Lahm, Lewa, Muller, and co are being asked to retire at Bayern while Boathand was chased.
swiz123: Donnarumma had the extra advantage of playing with Varrati who supposedly carried Jorginho in midfield but could only carry his team back to Paris empty handed. It's obvious Jorginho carried these two.
Yeah sure, by missing penalties while Donnaruma was saving them. Whatever you say comrade
popizaino: Same reason Boateng is not playing for Bayern Munich.
I had to check Ligue1 table today to see how far the werey has fallen. This is the kind of obscurity he deserves, not the limelight his illustrious teammates put him in. As much as Hummel's was lampooned, Hummels is still on our TV screens and in our consciousness while Boathand has disappeared. He should be happy he had a long contract at Bayern and could stay relevant for another 3 years after they asked him to leave
swiz123: [s]Jorginho won the CL without him, beating this very Madrid as he strolled to it. Immediately went to the Euros and helped Donarumma's career. Now, Donarumma's was given a chance to prove himself without jorginho and he blew it. Donarumma needed just one thing today and that's Jorginho.[/s]
Kante won the CL for Jogginghoe who was lucky enough to have a Donnaruma behind him to save numerous penalties at the Euros so he can call himself a Champion. Same Jogginghoe is a bench player today, just 7 months later, the first Balon d'Or contender in history that can say that
swiz123: It was only ibime that went that low to undermine Jorginho. He carried Jorginho to Euros but couldn't carry Messi, Neymar and Mbappe past round of 16.
That goalkeeper was Player of the Tournament and saved all the penalties which allowed Jorginho to call himself a Champion
Wow, I was so tired and slept off. I never once imagined that PSG would lose the tie to Madrid after watching the first leg. Benzema flogs Airmark once again
swiz123: Havertz can play attacking midfielder with a number 9 who isn't as stagnant and dumb as Lukaku. Incase if you decide to tell me where he played under Lampard, just know that I will tell you the condition of that coach now.
Keep quiet. He was woeful as a midfielder, couldn't press like a midfielder, too one footed, always losing the ball trying that silly move of shifting the ball on to his left foot, which does not work as a central midfielder, and losing it every time he was pressured into his weak foot. Also had inability to open up passes to the right channel as his default move everytime he received the ball was cutting back on his left foot into congested space. He had Abraham with him so the excuse you gave holds no water.
He was never a midfielder, he was mollycoddled at Leverkusen and the expectations placed on him were no different from a striker including the instructions placed upon him during games, the way he presses, the pass choices he makes and his ball retention ability in tight spaces. One can do some things perfectly well as a striker but move that same player to midfield and anyone will know that position is alien to him. It was either yourself or User09 who told us if we watched him at Leverkusen, we would know he loses the ball often that that's not his strength. Such a player can never be suitable as an AM for a top club. He was nothing but a striker in everything but name at Leverkusen, which was my observation at the time, observing his movements, his lack of care with the ball and his choices on the pitch. I even had to go dig his Leverkusen stats to see what position he was deployed in when he built his resume.
Ibime: In Havertz final season in Leverkusen, he played 30 games, scoring 12 goals
Interesting to note, he played as a striker in 6 games and scored 6 goals
That means he only scored 6 goals in 24 games playing midfield
I have said it, this guy is a striker, not an AM. His main skill is finishing, not passing the ball or vision to create. He used to drop 6,6,9 assists in Bundesliga and so on, and he has only created one big chance in his EPL career.
We are not Leverkusen to carry a striker disguising as a midfielder and dropping goal return not commensurate with the striker position. Havertz major obstacle now to playing where we can get real utility out of him is Lukaku cos only in striker position does he impress a little bit.
nihilistjnr: These are excerpts from an article on the relationship between Russia and Ukraine, written by Vladimir Putin himself, and literally published on the Kremlin website
Putin even started this article by charting the history of Ukraine as a part of Russia in great detail, from the 9th century to present day, pointing out that Ukraine is basically an LGA of Russia pretending to be an independent country.
And that if they really want to go down that they must be prepared to return the gifted territory to Russia...
In case you weren't sure about why he did what he did in 2014, Baba clear you say:
In other words, don't get it twisted.
You need to know centuries of Russian history to understand Putin's worldview.
The Rus people originated from Kiev and migrated to Moscow about 600 years ago
The Russians created that land, lost it and regained it several times from the Poland-Lithuania empire and the Swedish and cut that land out for them during the Bolshevik revolution. Some parts of Ukraine like Crimea are even fully Russian which Kruschev cut out of Russia and gave to Ukraine during the Soviet era. They were all one Republic then so it didn't matter. Little did they know they would come to regret it.
Ukraine also has a lot of black soil which grows nearly 20% of the world's grains and is a major breadbasket that Russia won't want to lose. It's the very reason Hitler went East to secure Germany's food stability into the future.
I watched this YouTube video a couple of weeks ago which puts the Russian historic and psychological ownership of Ukraine into perspective.
donjazet: I don't even think it's an issue of socialism or capitalism. Someone who has proclaimed support for Putin and his dictatorship has no business being a socialist. That's outright fascism. The craving for a "strong" leader, capable of facing up to foreign powers, Collaboration be damned.
People like that prop up tyrants. Tyrants that have no checks and balances. Finland, Norway, Switzerland etc. These are democratic socialists countries. You don't see autocrats in them. Havertz10 has no business calling himself a socialist.
Socialism/Communism usually engenders hatred for USA as heart of capitalism even into arms of worse countries. Enemy of my enemy is my friend psyche
