So right especially given the way African football has deteriorated both on for club and country competition. Gone were those days performance at Afcon or CAF champions league or World cup helped a player to win African best player.
I miss the days when AFCON is what you use to show your level.

These days some big guys for Europe wey dey carry £70m transfer fee go still come AFCON come flop.

In those days, we no go hear am oh. AFCON is where you we separate the greats then.

Nah he has traveled I'm sure of that.

I also think he was in Yankee a few weeks ago.

Look at his profile picture. That's the sun plaza tower in ATL.

When I was doing my research, I went on Google maps to recreate a view where the marriot tower is to the right of the sun plaza tower.

I also cross referenced the outside iron bars, and came to the conclusion that he took picture from the Westin Peachtree hotel, which goes for around 200-300 a night, so not too shabby

When I looked at the rooms at the hotel, the one that closely matched the view appeared to be a room with twin beds, so I suspect magic.minister may have actually been sharing the room...either that, or the original owner of the pic was. grin grin

Either way, the guy dey try so no respect where due. I just don't understand why he thought he could attack me like that.

Me wey be him longtime supporter sef
Check the quote - €1,000 cannot buy economy ticket to anywhere

I guarantee 95% of journeys will be completed under that amount, unless you are flying somewhere remote like Marshall Islands or Fiji.

Maybe the only journey he makes eg MMIA to Memphis costs that amount but he cannot have travelled much to be making that comment.

But why you no dey ever rate your townsman Taribo? Na one of my own best defenders for Nigeria and Africa. Playing for Inter and AC Milan at those times mean a lot to me
I far prefer Okechukwu to Taribo

Anything of note Taribo was involved in, score go always be something like 4-3, 3-2, 3-2 or even 4-1 to Denmark. That Denmark game, he also made mistakes sef. Even Inter suppose win league if their defence was tight given what Ronaldo was doing at the other end, although to be fair, he was the best CB in Inter, the other defenders were also rans

He was too aggressive and sometimes too much led by the spirit.

E remain small, his style of play for resemble the other African hatchet man defender in Serie A then - Saliou Lasisi of Parma and Sampdoria aka Mr Red Card.

How many years Milla play for Cameroun? over 20yrs, He was African player of the year in the 70s and Cameroun was quite strong then. Also Etoo had to play support striker a lot for them, Etoos exploits in Europe is probably the best of any African footballer. There were years Etoo was the best striker in the whole world
World Cup is the difference between them, and also goal average. Milla played way less games, whether due to injury or otherwise.

Keeper

----------Kameni

--Salah---Yaya---Aboutrika-Abedi--Etoo
-----------Weah--Milla
Decent, but didn't you watch Nkono and Bell?

I have serious problem with Aboutrika though. He is the lazy watchers pick in Egypt midfield while Ahmed Hassan was the one who ran the whole show. Aboutrika just had higher profile. A bit like Xavi and Iniesta except the gap between Hassan and Aboutrika is even wider.

Can Yekini make your top 3 African all time best player? What of top 5?

Yekini vs Drogba, who will you pick? What of Yekini vs Eto'o?
Yekini is in the conversation for 2nd or 3rd 11

Kanu is not in the conversation for the 11th 11. Not where Patrick Mboma, Bwalya, Hossam Hassan, Titi Camara and Drogba etc are yet to be accounted for.

Drogba is well behind Yekini in AFCON pecking order. This is someone who couldn't win AFCON with a stacked Ivory Coast team and even missed a penalty to deny his team the win. Soon as he retired, they then won.

I was privileged to watch both players play. Roger Milla is no doubt an African legend. But let's not allow nostalgia affect our thinking.

Milla won 2 AFCON, same with Eto'o.

Milla was top scorer in 2 editions of AFCON, same with Eto'o.

But

Eto'o is the top scorer in Cameroon football history (same country with Milla)

Eto'o is AFCON all time top scorer.

This is just in the AFCON category o.

If we are to go further and check their individual awards in Europe..... You know who will come tops.
Nothing to do with nostalgia.

Just because Eto played 17 years for Cameroon is what gives him these records.

In the glory years of 1998 to 2002 which is what matters he was a junior boy in Cameroon compared to Patrick Mboma who was the mover and shaker, the Yekini of his time and every team feared Mboma, not Eto. Mboma scored 4 goals in Olympics, Eto scored 1 for example.

In the mid-to-late 80s you can ask Nigerians who they dread facing in AFCON and they will tell you Milla. Nigeria always reach semifinal or final in the late 80s only to be knocked out by Milla.

Roger Milla had 43 goals in 77 games for Cameroon
Patrick Mboma had 33 goals in 57 games
Samuel Eto had 56 goals in 118 games

I believe some arithmetic can point you to the senior men from the above.

World Cup, Roger Milla is undisputed.

I try not to use club form to judge players from different generations as European acceptance of African players, and African cultural adaptation to the highest level of European football is a recent phenomenon that only really started accelerating in the mid.1990s and only became established from the mid-2000s. The best African player during Roger Millas era could be playing in Vitoria Setubal or RKC Waalwijk. It was the likes of Arsene Wenger who started to promote African players in Europe in the 1990s and demand decent pay for them starting with George Weah. So just because Eto played for Barca while Milla played for lesser sides, I will use their Cameroon exploits only to compare them within an African context.

How many of these guys you mentioned are Nigerians?

I mentioned Kanu's name in reply to Afrodoc2 question of who is the Nigerian best of all time.

I'm not stupid to start mentioning Kanu among the continents best. I'm not that stupid.
Ok bros. Yekini belongs in that conversation for African best 11 and Kanu doesn't, so they can't be compared on an NT level.

I think Afrodoc summarised perfectly when he said "The kind of confidence Yekini gave Nigerian fans, and the fear he instilled in our opponents is unparalleled in our history." You have to be alive at that time to have this feeling. Infact starting with Yeking is like starting a game 1 goal up.

Compare the feeling of Yeking who you already know.has scored before the game begins,.compared to Kanu who you already know will not score before the game begins, for 5 straight AFCON tournaments.

If Milla top Eto'o in World Cup, what about AFCON and European Cup?

He never had a single AFCON goal but was African best not once but twice... How come? We are talking African football here.
For Olympics which is an age grade competition.

You don't see anyone harping on Mboma for what he did in Sydney 2000.

Let's be honest, Kanu is an AFCON flop. There are dozens of African strikers to be rated above Kanu who we wouldn't even mention but were AFCON greats like Titi Camara of Guinea, Michel Bassole of Ivory Coast or Coulibaly of Mali. We haven't even come to Kalusha Bwalya, Hossam Hassan, Patrick Mboma and co.

As much as I liked Kanu in the 1990s, his 2000s performance in Afcon is a big scar on his record.

Personally I rate Kanu slightly above Yekini.

Don't get me wrong. Yekini is a massive massive player as far as Nigeria football is concerned. A beast of a player. A legend.

But Kanu, for me, is the best player Nigeria ever produced.
Kanu does not have a single goal in AFCON despite attending like 5 tournaments.

Kanu is a nobody in AFCON

Overall though, I can't fault your line up.
What is Etos impact in World Cup compared to Milla?

If we're talking AFCON, I even rate Patrick Mboma way higher than Eto sef.

MOST DEFINITELY.

Another good call. Add Onyali to it. Hmmm this is very close to the answer.
5 Olympics with always a hope of a medal running against those doped up girls like FloJo, Gail Deavers, Merlene Ottey and Marion Jones.

She was the staple of my Olympics as a child, and got the bronze medal in 200m which is better than long jump. And she was better than Ajunwa in all the sprints forcing Ajunwa to try her luck in long jump.

I just see Ajunwa as a Buster Douglas who got lucky one time while Onyali gave me repeated hope in every final over many years.

Name your all time African 11.
Who do I leave out between Roger Milla, George Weah, Abedi Pele and Raba Madjer? Not to mention Yekini, Samuel Eto or even Japhet N'doram.

I'm going with the ones who made the biggest impact in AFCON, World Cup and European Cup in that order.

Limited to only the players I watched

GK - Nkono (Grobelaar fought for Apartheid regime so the soil rejects him)

LB - Kwadwo Asamoah (can't think of a great LB for now)
CB - Noureddine Naybet
CB - Kalidou Koulibaly
RB - Lauren Etame

CM - Ahmed Hassan (Xavi of AFCON)
CM - Yaya Toure
AM - Abedi Pele

RW - Mohammed Salah
LW - Sadio Mane

CF - Roger Milla

How can you remove Olajuwon who left Nigeria at 20 and PLAYED FOR NIGERIA and include Adesanya who left Nigeria at 10 and has never competed for Nigeria.

Hakeem Olajuwon.

He is the highest rated Nigerian in the history of his own sport. He was dominant in his position for several years and many believe the most skilled/complete player in his position.

I don't think you will find any other Nigerian whose all time rank in his sport is as high AND was also great for as long.
He checks the boxes for both sustained excellence and peak performance, as well as historical ranking.
Hakeem Olajuwon never played for Naija jare.

Have you heard of Dick Tiger, a two weight boxing champion and twice the Ring magazine fighter of the year. I don't think anyone surpass that for now. Maybe Adesanya can become the greatest if MMA gains more traction.
