The whole idea of the social register being shrouded in secrecy is dubious in nature. Accepted It may not be meant for me, but who supposed to be the beneficiary don't even know about its existence. Is it not wise for the Govt to disseminate such info so I can encourage those who I know amongst them to register and become beneficiaries?

There is no register. They quickly did a Ghost register so they can get some funds repatriated from World Bank as larride explains below.

The bold part of Ur statement is totally untrue. The best form of passing information like that is through radio jingles in English, Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba Languages. If the government has not passed the information through this medium, then you can't claim the people don't care to get the information or disregard it as audio.

I listen to radio to and from work, no day did I hear any jingle advising people to go to their local goverment for inclusion in the social register. I hear jingles by FIRS, LIRS encouraging people to pay tax, why is telling people of a package that will benefit them difficult for this government?( That is if there is actually such programme in place)

There is nobody on no damn register. In the whole of Nairaland, nobody has heard of anybody on no damn register except Larride. 1 in 10 Nigerians are supposedly on this register and nobody knows them. Even NASS members don't know. 1. The Covid-19 palliative for those affected by the pandemic is to be handled by NISRAL. For both households and individuals. I’m not sure if NISRAL has done anything tangible yet. NISRAL are suppose to support individuals with CBN backed loan of 50bn Naira to support the economic during the pandemic. Though registration has commenced, I haven’t heard anything about it since days ago when the registration started. I think I posted the link here also.

3. The planned expansion of the register will have some twerks during the PMT to accommodate daily wage earner and low income earner. Hopefully state government down south will take this program serious. It’s a shame that in the whole of Ekiti only 5,000 people are on the program.

The concept of Tax is you give 10% of your total profit (it can be daily,weekly, monthly or however you decide to pay it) to the church. The tithe is then used to take care of the full time pastors who have no other work than pastorate work.

Sure, there are some pastor that has abused this concept and they are practicing whatever it is they are practicing (Which can’t be Christianity really).

Some misconceptions:

1. Tithe has nothing to do with your salvation. There are even some believers that don’t pay their tithe to the church they attend but some to other church’s and some to the orphanage.

2. Tithing is not a fast money scheme. Just like every giving, the general belief is that if you give out, somehow you will get it back. This is where most misconceptions about tithing comes from.

I’m paying tithe not because my pastor forced me to pay but I pay because I want to be one of those who use my resource to help the church. If I stop paying, no one will hold my trouser.

There is nothing that says you must pay tithe full stop, whether to your church or elsewhere. If you feel your church is in development stage and needs whatever they need, you can go ahead and give more than 10% sef. If your church leaders are already living lavish, you would be foolish to pay tithe to them. Flee from any church that emphasises tithe, whether to them or elsewhere.

Early Jewish Society was a religious Society. When they landed in Canaan, every one was given land to become citizens except the Levites who were the Administrators (Civil Servants) of the Jewish State. Their work is not only pastoral. They were distributed throughout other tribes land to serve not only as Priests but as Teachers, Scribes, Administrators, Judges, and Construction workers for any edifice required by Jewish State including building cities of refuge in times of war or tribal conflict. In other words, they were civil servants and the tithe you pay is to maintain the work of Government, same as the tax you pay today to Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The 10% did not include Charity work. There are separate provisions for Charity including the tithe you pay every 3rd year. That one is given to widows and fatherless as well but the 1st and 2nd year is for tax purposes only to keep the State running.

So just as you have countries constituted on communism, some on capitalism and some on socialism, you also have countries founded on religion like Israel. The tithe is the tax required to keep the administrative functions of Govt running and should be substituted with the tax you pay Govt today, while you keep doing your charity works and supporting your church separately at no fixed percentage.

No Levite priest was a rich man, and none were allowed to own land or run Businesses like our Pastorpreneurs these days so you would be crazy to keep giving some church 10% while the Pastor keeps opening Businesses and getting richer.

No sizeable church requires 10% to pay pastors and run activities if it's immediate Capital needs have been met. If 10 people give 10%, then you have a full salary for one man. 500 people cannot be paying 10% to one man while the man is getting richer and driving hummer.

Some of these top pastors that people are worshipping, I knew them personally. Some have stayed in my house. My popsie was very well connected within Christian circles and helped to organise crusades, found churches etc, but never took on ministry himself, saying that God only called him as a teacher, not to lead a flock, even despite some groups asking him to come and lead them, even as far as USA. That's how my popsie refused to attend one of his good friend Bishop naming ceremony, and another one, an Archbishop in PH now, who we grew up with, that one was seen ballot stuffing in 1992 Gubernatorial elections.
