Pressure on the dollar is too much and China has offered a simple solution to save our dieing economy - Yuan/Naira Swap.

90% of our Electronics, Plants and machinery comes from china, so what's stopping tinubu from embracing this deal. Is it the fear of USA?
I remember Falana said on Channels that he wrote Emefiele about this.
I think he said the reply got was they are still processing the procedure. So you may be right fear of the west, IMF AND WORLD BANK

It's a matter of time.
Local Companies will spring up, it's a matter of time.
We are too engrossed in foreign products and that is why the effect is so hard on us.

Things will go back to normal, its a good policy, let's just endure for a little longer
Why are the senators not buying made in Nigeria SUV. Do you know how much billion we are spending on SUV for them. Govt should be showing example.
It was alleged that they shared dollar envelopes during delegates and general elections. Now they are crying foul. They should stop dollarizing the economy. Why did they not share naira envelopes. They other day a member of the legislative wanted to appreciate his personal staff and share dollars for them publicly.
Did you see the list of major import for 2022 shared earlier in this chat, 76.7% of total import and no consumer goods in there. Local production is key no doubt but this narrative is not entirely true. Who spends dollars physically in the street of Nigeria no one. So why do we have dollar flying around everywhere. Digitize dollar and restrict dollars transaction to online only after all no one pays for goods and services with dollar cash. That way these transactions can be tracked monitored and controlled to the level of willing seller and willing buyer that They want.
The highest import is fuel. They have not been able to tell us why after billions of dollars the refineries are not work. They are not probing the monies.
May it surprise you that we import cooking gas from Niger and Angola even though we a gas exporting country.
There is something fundamentally wrong with Nigerian leadership. First it was PDP and now it APC with 8 years of nothing to write home about. Even some policies signed by Buhari were not implemented because a cabal is benefiting from it.
They sell us this narrative. Yes local production is key.
Why don't dey subsidy tariff on modular refineries, drug manufacturing, equipment and parts manufacturing.
MAN. Manufacturing association of Nigeria is crying for help but no body is listening to them.
Foreign investors are waiting but we need to get security and power right but govt is not looking in that direction. Who will pump his billions of dollars in a country where is live is not guaranteed or spend so much on power.
Most developed or developing countries don't develop them selves alone there are foreign investors. We have all it takes minerals and others for investors to be flocking around but there are watching.
To set up manufacturing locally you also need foreign support with this dollar rate and instability, it discourages investors.
See food, some farmers can't go to the farms. So annual yield is low. Bandits have taken over so farming communities so people can't go to farms. This is also contributing to food crisis and inflation.
Members of this govt has been around for some time now, best is to set up a team do some brainstorming and profer short, middle term and long term solution. Not this back and forth with a population of about 200m and large economy like ours

To declare a state of emergency on food prices or to ensure that farmers are able to go to their farms without fear of Fulani herdsmen, which one is more effective?

Thank you my brother. Check security first. Once farmers can go to farms without fear and with the awareness on farming, food situation will improve greatly.
Or they will have to resume massive importation to cushion the short fall.

Are you guys serious. That the interviewer is not suppose to ask some kind of questions and the question is dump.
The interviewers use different strategies during interviews depending on their mission or what they want to achieve. I have conducted interviews and have attended interviews both virtual and physical. I ask that question too. The reason is most times the CV is a well planned and written document. When you now ask the guy a question about himself in the spur of the moment, you get a different version. If everything there is true the owner will run through it effortlessly but if it is garnished, during his talk you will pick loopholes easily that will prompt you to ask other questions.
Another thing is you went for an interview looking for job meaning you are ready to be under someone's supervision why don't you just answer the questions first. It is not an insulting or derogatory question.
Sometimes dump question are deliberately asked to see your composure and how you will react in situations when you boxed up. This normally happen when there are so many qualified candidates and they must pick few among the lot.
One the best job i ever did years back was after one of dumbest interview I have ever had. It was with a multinational into IT equipment installation. I just kept my cool. They have rounded their business and are off now. We were told right from the beginning that's the plan anyways.
My advice will be just calm down. You applied for a job.

This is just one person that we know of. Everybody profit from this arms deals, insurgency, banditry and kidnapping. See the Drug scandal rocking the police force. There are so many things we don't know. Some much money being stolen. Automatic billionaires made everyday from stolen public funds, oil money and loans. With the amount of money circulating in Nigeria only few Nigerians are suppose to be below poverty line. But the monies are in few hands and we are hailing them planning to get there to get our own without asking for accountability. We don't care to know that the reason why most people are suffering and everything look so upside down is because our collective wealth and future have been stolen.

He has rejected the electoral bill twice but rush to sign PIB because it favoured his people.
Either way the Niger Deltans were there bro. This is what I have been saying. The south problem is southerners. They sat there and sold out. If southerners say the bill do not meet their agitations how many southern senators and representatives voted against. This is democracy and those who understand the game is playing it better. Even during and after the initial agitations, bombing and burning, was the region better off. Some people were settled but the generality of the people and communities have nothing to show.

You don't need an angel, Prophet or seer to tell you what is men clothing or women clothing except you wanna Deceive yourself.

No Matter what we argue and say this or say that. We can only Deceive Ourselves, we cannot Deceive GOD. The Foolishness of GOD is wiser than the wisest of Men.
Everyone will stand before GOD.

Eternity is a very Serious Matter! It is a Personal Race so do not let anyone irrespective of title or Position make you miss your place in Eternity.

Nobody will answer or speak for you before GOD.

So Get the Word of GOD ( The Holy Bible) and stick to what it says not what Man thinks.

Heaven is Real
Hell is real
Don't play with your Eternity
We all should be very careful here. Open your eye and see through. We pray God should give us discernment into his words. Some words in the bible are advice from the author's some are direct words of the Lord and of Christ. Do not forget the tradition and region the bible event came from. For example the traditional dressing for men in most part of Niger delta is wrapper around the waist. So should the people throw their tradition away? There are women trousers and there are men trousers by the way they are sewn. The woman body and man body are not same. First difference you will notice in trousers is the direction of zip for a woman trouser. The tradition clothes for Africans are wrapper based for both male and female. The English people that thought or brought Christianity don't use wrappers. The women use gown, shirt and ladies trousers. Even the jean is tailored differently for man and female. You will notice that in Niger delta area, men of God dress in their native attires for special occasions ( the male dress on top and the wrapper down) Are they now sinner. It's only God that has the right to judge anyway. Let's just be careful.

What am about to say is unrelated to this news but my observation over a long time.

As much as I hate to say this, the real problem of the southern Nigeria is her politifcians and elites, not Buhari, not police or army or anything but her politifcians.....

Southern senators and legislators have turned a blind eye to the injustice and killings going on in their respective states and constituents.

Most roads are inaccessible, most health care non functional, most schools deteriorated to the extent that it's not worthy for pigs to stay, yet that's where humans are staying...

When they award a project, the price is highly overbloated like someone saying that 300million was used to dug a borehole for the community and the borehole won't work up to three months before it the same community members that the borehole was dug for vandalized everything.

The fact is that we all like blaming the leadership but we forget that we can build our own community with our hands since it's clear that the leaders have failed....

I could go on and on but the solution to our problems in the south can only be solved when the people and the leaders come together and tell themselves the truth.
God Bless you

When they found one they start using everything to force the friendship and call it relationship. Go for real love girls. Stop going after script and bling bling and those that you want to show off on social media. After you will come and say no real love again. Some will say na who love help! Ok now! No love we go chop! Ok o! If it's all about what a guy has that means no girl will love your brother! Guys want peace of mind, support and gentle nudges here and there. If this list is true, then you see the reason why no reasonable Nigerian of Yoruba extraction will call for secession. These patriots will not and did not die in vain. They are usually the finest in their set and lots of investment goes in their training by their parents and the country. Those who have never lifted even a finger for Nigeria will be talking down on the efforts of patriots like these who put their lives on the line daily. I will always honour their sacrifice by doing my best and praying for this great nation. They are true heroes and may God comfort their parents and families. All the enemies of Nigeria will lose las las. They always lose. We will always have more brilliant officers who are patriots. Our worst experience was the Ejigbo Hercules crash yet our armed forces survived. May God bless Nigeria.
The issue is not with the ordinary Nigerian, hard working and serving diligently but those cabals and their foot soldiers rubbishing all the effort that hard working Nigerians make.

Please let us stop this Yoruba this Yoruba that. Wait am not saying they did right. We all have seen killings, kidnapping and raping all over the land without any tangible effort from the government. Tension have risen and any small misunderstanding can lead to serious crisis especially in this social media age. This is why the government should be seen to be the general meditator but no they kept quiet. That is a recipe for things like this. Thoughtfull leaders have bee warning but government was calling them names and threatening them. People all over in Zanfara, Taraba, Jos, Kaduna, Benue, Edo, ondo, Ekiti, Oyo ogun, Kwara, the East etc are angry because of the crimes. The government at Federal, state levels should be seen fighting this crimes. The national assemblies should be discussing , planning and galvanizing ideas and support towards bring harmony but no. Everyone of us is condemning the action in the west now but have we as a nation rose up in protest, discussion, dialogue and against this criminals elements since. How can we have leaders and people no matter the tribe or religion are been raped, kidnapped and killed and no one have been brought to book or convicted. And we expected people to still remain same. Are they spirit? Even in the home if things go missing all times without intruder suspicion will set in. They say foreigners. They pass through our borders and villages so let us protect out nation. Let us not go the easy way of tribe and religion that will lead to more issues. Let us identify the real enemy and deal with it. Killings no matter the excuse is BAD. The idea of encourage local manufacturer I don't understand. Even in America, foreign manufactured cars like Toyota, Kia, BMW, and the rest are still being shipped to America. Or they have their plants in America. In my opinion, govt should give waivers to this growing manufacturer. Create enabling environment for them to strive and produce at competitive price. No body would want to waste money. People will buy at good price instead of import. But if this is not done and you try to frustrate import, you are encouraging smuggling, tariff manipulation and all sort of bypass to beat the system. Please do we know anywhere in the world where import duty is 70% abi how much is it now self. It's about 5 or 6% in Dubai. I think it 20% in Ghana. 40% in South Africa where there are assembly plants. Our policies are always way off from attending to the issue. We make governance look like rocket science. In a country this blessed with so much, governance shouldn't be some much of trial and error. Please somebody with more accurate info or knowledge is free to correct any of my wrong.

Unfortunately he is right. Now this is not to say that the administration is best at running the Economy. The thing is as much as we need middle men for businesses, and goods delivery, their activities needs regulation like other nations. In some cases eliminate them where possible. The middle men are involved in hoarding and jacking up of prices unnecessarily for not adding any value. In Nigeria if you break down the cost of goods, the percentage cost input by the middle men is the highest. Manufacturers with all the liability don't make the profit middle men make. They even form themselves in an association that control the market. That's why you see some products with price tag yet the consumer still don't get at that price.
Politics / Re: Tough Policies: IMF, World Bank Take Over Nigeria’s Economy - TribuneOnline by ibnew: 8:12pm On Sep 06, 2020
kikero:

Most if not all African economies fall victim to the IMF because their sources of income have problems.....

First, most African countries rely on selling raw materials and commodities to the global market

Second we use the income from the sales to import goods and services, including some that we can produce on our own at a value that is higher than our income

Third , we don't control the price of the raw materials we sell. Prices of crude oil are determined in London and New York

Fourth, we spend billions on subsides and other socialist welfarist projects which end up costing more than we estimated because of our growing population and low tax base

Fifth, we tolerate corruption, both at the low and also by the big men and women. And most of the money stolen comes from loans taken

All these puts us into deficit and into the hands of the IMF and the world Bank.

Nigeria is a classic example.

We could be free.from the IMF, but because it involves fighting corruption seriously.and cutting subsides seriously, and becoming an industrial economy which means an initial period of hardship, we refuse to take those routes.
You are so on point my brother. We need more people like you with good understanding in this Country. We all as a nation need to bite the bullet to move forward. China, India Malaysia and Indonesia did it. Any nation that want to break free from these Western economic manipulation must be ready for a period of hard times. But we have to fight corruption and other economic and social vices to stand still so we can move forward. Bringing the hardship without fighting corruption will not yield the needed result and will not work. So we keep going in circles.

Yoruba and Igbo people are what is wrong with Nigeria argue with your keyboards.
They find ways to tribalise everything

Edit: I am happy that some Igbos and Yorubas are admiting it THAT IS A STEP FORWARD I appreciate you guys for admiting it. You people will go far in life.

for those who still refuse to admit it imagine if all 248 other ethnic groups in Nigeria decided to go at each others throat the same exact way Igbos and Yorubas go at each other EVERY SINGLE DAY on NAIRALAND just imagine.

Imagine you are an Hausa, fulani, Ibibio etc would you rather have a president who is Yoruba or Igbo or someone who is Jukum, Ijaw or just any other group that is not Yoruba or Igbo. Ask your non Yoruba & Igbo friends to find out or make a poll online but I'm sure the Igbos and Yorubas would rig the online poll lol

Don't let your ego be so fragile, that you react easily, Yes you owe me nothing but we are neighbors your right stops where mine begins, nobody likes noisy, show off neighbors. that was why Goodluck Jonathan from a state with only 8 local governments became president and not any of the Igbos who people thought would be president and now it is why Tinubu will not become president nobody likes noisy show offs. Especially if those people are "champions of their tribes" like Nnamdi Kanu, Ojukwu, Tinubu, Ishaq Akintola etc people from other tribes will ALWAYS go for whom they perceive is the lesser of 2 evils, the least radical. That is why Igbos would support Atiku over Buhari if not because of Jagabans change of mind Buhari would not have won.

In all Remember Nigeria has 250 ethnic groups not 2 or 4 dont be decieved Ijaw has 6 states Igbo has 5, the way you have millions of people Tiv, Jukun, Ijaw, all have millions of people, Yoruba alone or Igbo alone can not rule Nigeria, you need to work with other ethnic groups so learn to be accomodating, clip your tongues.

If you continue seeing everybody else as OTHER instead of Nigerians, I can assure you you will keep losing and Nigeria as a whole will suffer for it, the Hausas you people think are one are merely accomodating each other there is tension between them Hausas see fulani's as Bush people, mamfa have their issues if you are smart strategists you will go round and find allies but instead you stay in your houses hurling abuses at EVERY SINGLE tribe/person that is not yours.

Hausa-fulani have been successful because they made Ninzom tribe feel like they are Hausas they made Ngweshe people feel welcome make Nupe people feel at home so these ethnic groups do not feel threatened when an Hausa rules them the same cannot be said of the Ibibio people living next to the Igbos or the Ijaws living next to the Yorubas

Let me stop here enough knowledge for today

The fact that you people are saying I am Afonjaa shows just how bad things are. I am not Yoruba neither am I Igbo or Hausa I'm just telling you people the truth. Take it or leave it, the truth is the truth. Travel and learn.
This best piece I have read from a Nigerian here for some time now. Thanks. Good food for thought. No group can fix it alone. We need to work together. The later we agreed the more we push away our freedom, growth, development. No group is perfect. Is it only Nigeria that has multiple tribe. LET US STOP THIS PLEASE AND WORK TOGETHER.

they've already bought and shipped hundreds of thousands of slaves before those things you mentioned. By the time those things were happening they've already known Africa inside out. Slavery started as far back as 16th century when they were looking for route to India for the spice trade because Arabs were cheating them. They were on their way to India to when they saw Africa. It was still the search for the route to India that led to columbus sighting the Americas. He made a mistake and thought he had gotten to India through the Western route that's even why people still call the original inhabitants of the Americas Indians. Slavery wasn't a big deal this period. Every civilisation that ever happened in human history was built by slaves. Persian empire, Greek civilisation, Roman empire, Babylonia, Egypt etc. Humans were into selling humans to slavery way back before the Europeans. The Europeans that first came to Africa were mostly explorers and businessmen it was later on they actually became aggressive and even then Africans were the ones helping them because they didn't know the African jungles that were filled with mosquitoes and malaria. Slavery was a normal thing back then in fact slave trade is going on in Libya, and most Arab countries now
Good bro. Love our facts. I also agree to some point to your line of thoughts. I would have love us to discuss more. I have some much more to say. But not good at typing much text in this phone thing. In all I still think there is global racism against black. Even though in the African continent we are not one and cannot hold our ass together.

they weren't stolen, they were bought. It is 100% impossible for a few Europeans to sail across the Atlantic, navigate the jungles of West Africa and capture people. I know where my ancestors lived it's not possible for a stranger to locate them talkless of capturing them. As for the Americas, it belongs to white people, they own it by right of conquest
Bros check history. One example is the History of the Bini kingdom where the oba who resisted was sent away, artifacts stolen. Artifacts that the British agree they stole with some of them returned willfully by the British. Process still on to more or the rest. They came with army with motars , arsenals and gun powder. The technology we did not have as at when they came. Agreed there some infighting and betrayal between us but it's either you agree or you are taken anyways. The only country that was not colonized when they came was Ethiopia. If it was trading why colonize us. Do you colonize your trading partners. South Africa is very fresh. Please Google some of this.

Blacks is the most useless race on earth.

Very useless set of people. America is not your country, stop messing that nation up with your dirty mentality. Come back to Nigeria,Ghana and other useless African nations you originated from.

what? Are you serious? They should come back to where to who?. I don't know where you are but if they ship them to Nigeria will your community give them land to stay. Do you see the infighting amongst tribes in Nigeria and Africa.
How can you tell a people who were forcefully relocated over four hundred years ago to go back. Where? The last batch of them were released into the area that is now called Liberia. The black have every right to America more than anyone apart from from the Red Indians the Aboriginal owners of America that were almost completely eliminated by the British (white)when they got there. One of the greatest genocide in human history. This is because Every thing America today was built on the back of Black American parents centuries ago. FREE LABOUR. WORK THAT WAS NEVER PAID FOR FOR CENTURIES. They were set free as slave without a right to own anything, property lands nothing. Even if it was a paid job are they not entitled to pension. Imagine you forefathers working for company for decades without pays except poor meals and only to be sent off without compensation. How would you feel. What will be your status in life as a child from that kind of family. They are not African citizens. They are Americans only of African descent. They are not immigrant like we see now. Why are Arnold Schwarzennegger and Donald Trump who migrated in this Generation Americans and they that were taken about four hundred years ago still not Americans.

A country without intelligent planners in public offices!
If this is a serious and vision-driven country, Petrol should be #50 per litre right now. But it's what it is!

Look at that picture: all they do is sit and rant on weighty matters they are not committed to create solutions to, and at the end of the month, take home millions of Naira.
Some of them even sleep during sessions and still get paid fully. No doctor, engineer, driver, banker, etc can do that and still keep their jobs.
Nigeria has no plan, so I am not surprised that we pay so much for what's cheap in other oil-producing countries.
Don't mind the. Are they not contributing. Who are the owners of contacting companies in this oil companies with inflated contract. Didn't they know it will hurt the economy. They are shouting now because the price has dropped.

Politics / Re: Sanwo-olu Blames Late Airport, Border Closures For COVID-19 Spread by ibnew: 5:02am On May 01, 2020
Very true. They kept the borders open waiting for the themselves and children to return before closing it. Abba Kayri, Bubu daughter, Atiku son, Some Governors, 36 legislator who on a workshop all came back March and refused to quarratine, self Isolate or go for testing. Instead the were holding meetings attending functions and moving round the country risking the lives of about 200million people. What a wicked world. They thought it was a joke or they were immune to it. The Italian index case in Lagos was promptly handled and may be we would have check the spread there but no we had to wait for the high and mighty. When even America stop flight from Europe we did not. What do we expect. May the Lord give us wisdom to manage this.
EcoBrick:

Well, let me be a bit more lucid. If states controlled their borders (air, land and seas), they would be at liberty to make independent judgements that could prove critical to their management of the spread. Fine and yes, it may still have entered the country eventually, but we would never know how different the impact would have been had Lagos for example had more control over regulation of her entry points. I would argue that it would have been able to better manage the spread under such circumstance. We have all seen how some individual states have manage to curb the spread via tough measures of interstate border controls. Similar approach could have worked with international borders.

I agree with your line of thought my brother. Everything is understanding planning and discussing. As leaders decision should be made based on happenings and reassessing the situation on groud

I laugh in Spanish. Were are all those that were hailing him? How market?

No doubt I commend his efforts so far however he shows unnecessary power play. He can be too emotional and lacks finesse in matters that requires tact and diplomacy. He could have handled the situation differently and gained public applaud worthy of emulation by other states govt.

Now he just ridiculed himself on a matter, he was 100% correct. What stops him from working with DPR, IOCs , Helicopter operators and state health officials to develop procedures for all offshore personnel transiting the state this period? States like Delta, Edo, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa would have copied it.

Clearly you do not understand the processes either in Nigeria or in England. Do you mind to ask questions first please? Answers would be given to you and you'll have better understanding. Cheers.
Ok bros thanks. But just for my knowledge. Can any one choose the queen of England that is not in the lineage or successor? In my community, there was peace until government appointment a king and gave staff of office without any regard to the old traditional process of choosing a king. There has never been peace after that. I will appreciate your enlightenment thanks.

This is rubbish. Abusing our traditional institutions. We virtually have nothing left. We continue the abuse from where the British left it. Chief and other titled men are respectable people in the society who have over time and consistency proved to be reliable and trustworthy. There are process to follow. On the other if a son indigene or not have done something remarkable there are ways of giving recognition to that person. You don't just throw titles around. Just like when they say Governors give staff of office to a traditional ruler. How? Does he know the process the community use in getting there king. Does he have the traditional instrument to give to him. The British came and destroyed the traditional institutions for there benefit and we continue. Can any government in UK change, appoint or give staff of office to the queen of England? It has it's own process. Well, why am I complaining. Nothing has respect in Nigeria only money whether ill gotten or not. It does matter who you are.
