Bro I'm in the same situation you are in o ! I am looking for a trusted courier service to use . I contacted UPS and to my greatest surprise dem tell me say na N14,500 to send transcripts shocked shocked shocked . Someone told me EMS / NIPOST registered mail service costs a little above N1,000 and that their service is very reliable and that the docs are delivered in about 7 days however I have my reservations concerning NIPOST. Anyway I would like to know if anyone here has used NIPOST / EMS to send docs and transcripts , if yes what was the service like?

Boss......no waste money except u have a strict deadline to meet. I used NIPOST registered mail throughout. Both for transcripts and other application docs. Except when they were on strike and had to use dhl twice costing me about 25k.

Nipost costs less than 1k and gets delivered within 14days. Sometimes faster. I only dont trust nipost for receiving documents. I never got my admission letter by post. But they are quite reliable for sending stuffs.

Cheers!

Hi all. Please I need people who are already in Finland to clarify something. I read that one needs €6720 living expenses in one's account to process the first year of residents permit for masters in Finland. I can come up with this, but the problem is processing the 2nd year while in Finland...how can one go about this e.g if one is doing those 25hrs/week blue collar jobs. I love the idea of the free tuition and all & will love o get a quality masters from a well structured educational system as in finland but I don't want to be stranded in a foreign land after I've given my all to it. Thanks

Boss, focus on getting here first. For the second year, you will survive.

Cheers!

jeffoe: @icerberg54 and adebasket thanks for the clarification.
@iceberg how long did it take for your rp application to be processed, did u apply online before submitting the document to the embassy(it's regard sending another SOA stuff).
from what I just read from the migri website. the average processing time was 19 days for 2013.
the reason am asking this is because the source of d money na community effort just want to be sure before sourcing for benefactors.
I guess u are in Aalto do those guys accept scanned ielt results and what are the chances of a cgpa of let say 3.4(2.2)

My Rp took about 8 weeks. I didn't apply online. I heard it was much faster for guys that came in this year. So try to apply online. Cos then migri gets ur docs directly instead of having to wait for embassy to send it.

I did Toefl, so i don't know whats up with the IELTS stuff.

For CGPA, they dont usually specify any minimum requirement. However, because the competition is always keen, you are advised to apply to at least 4 schools. Increases your chances.

Cheers!

ogompaul: Thanks Bro for that piece buh are u saying that d 1.5M will have to be there for 6months? or jas to run d account for six month nd make sure u hav a closing balance of 1.5M some weeks before applying for Visa

Boss, the second option. some weeks before applying. But active for six months.

Cheers!

Once you apply, you are to print the SOA. What @bumitek is saying is they will check the account from the bank to see if you still got the cash. It can be 2weeks after application and it can be one month.

I think i need to make it clearer now..

There is no general rule about how and when the money should be deposited. The fact is, u need to have 6720 euros for a year's permit. Hence you need to be able to convince the guy handling your file in migri. However from experience, take note of the following.

* They require SOA for the past 3 months (I noticed 3 months is being mentioned here. It used to be 6 months. Not aware of the change)
* Make sure the account has been active for that period. If possible, intentionally put money in it from time to time and withdraw. Just to make it active. Dont open a new account today and deposit 1.5m there tomorrow.
* Even if u have the 1.5m at once, try to drop it in the account in bits. Like 3-4 installments.
* Make sure that all those deposits are either self deposits or deposited by your sponsor. They will go through every line of transaction and if an huge amount was deposited by someone other than you or your sponsor, they will ask questions.
* Now, when u apply, at the embassy, on interview day, u will fill a consent form. This authorizes the embassy to request for your statement from the bank directly. This means that, be prepared to have that 1.5m there for the entire application period. You can perform transactions on the account but dont let the balance fall below 1.5m at any point in time.
* When embassy receives the application, they dont process it. They forward it to migri in Finland. Between 2wks-1month after you apply, migri will contact u directly asking for some additional documents. This includes your SOA from the date you visited embassy till the date you were contacted by migri. So from there they will know if you actually withdrew the money immediately u applied. So its best to leave the money there throughout. Just plead to the owner of the money and if possible tell them before hand.

When you eventually get your RP, you can wipe out your account same day.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!!

jeffoe: with regards the 3 month s.o.a I need some clarification.
will the SOA show that 1.5 mil was in your account for three month
must the SOA be for a three month period
what of , if in the 3 month period of the SOA it shows that the 1.5 mill came in during the last week of the three month period
how much should be in your sponsor SOA i.e. the minimum
has anyone gotten the SOA before how does it look like.
what of if one just deposit the huge amount get the SOA and completely withdraw the funds.
I know the bank will not disclose my account balance to the embassy so there is no way the embassy will know if I had the money withdrawn afterwards if it doesn't reflect in the SOA. a beg I need clarification.
in previous post I have read it's always says one requires a SOA but I didn't take notice of the three month stuff.

Unfortunately, your bank will disclose your account balance to the embassy because u will sign a consent form at the embassy that authorizes them to do so. So if u withdraw the money immediately after printing SOA, then....................

SirHouloo: Good day wonderful people in the house. I will need the gurus in the house to come to my aid concerning the required 1.5M. Can one withdraw it once one is in Finland or it is like the Germany's blocked account?

No, it isn't blocked. You can even withdraw while still in Naija, once you get your permit.

Remember its in a naija bank account. The german stuff is in a german bank, that makes it easier and perhaps legal for the german authorities to set limits on it.

sirkezman: @iceberg54 broda do u knw if local flights from helsinki to oulu charge for luggages? I need to book since i will get to helsinki by sept 3. Kindky treat as urgent

Boss, apparently there was a slight problem with nairaland. I replied day before yday but my post disappeared later.

Checked for FINNAIR.

For normal tickets (i.e. without offers), u can check-in 2 bags (max 23kg each), in addition to one hand luggage. For your intended date, the price is around 370 euros. Plus/minus 3 days, money is refundable.

Currently there's an offer to Oulu. Price is about 80 euros. flights cant be rescheduled, money non refundable. Check in allowance of 1 bag(max 23kg).

Excess baggage fee: 40 euros for 2nd bag, 60 euros for 3rd and subsequent bags.

So as a sharp naija guy, if you are very sure of the date, book the offer ticket and pay extra euros if you have more than one bag.

Cheers sir!

adebasket97:

point of information sire, we are going to finland to study not to hustle. Personally, i prefer finland to other european countries because of the "free tution" clause. I wanted to study in UK, the running cost is almost #4million (other expenses not included) while going to finland will cost me less than 200k. In addition i have two friends over there and both earn at least 1500euros monthly from their 25hours per week work times (other "paroles"not included). Maybe "your friends" you mentioned are hustlers. this time next year i will be in finland and in two - six years i will be back to my country (six years, if am able to process my phd admission). Goodluck bro.

The guy was very extreme. Comparing FI to Ukraine was a joke. Guys from Spain, france, italy etc are flooding here daily.

However, 1500 euros monthly would mean you are doing more than one job. No single job would earn you that as a student. Cos it implies about 15euros per hr (100 hrs per month). But doing two jobs will most likely affect your schooling. Cos then you need to work during the day or overnight.

Anyways, If your sole purpose here is to study and support yourself while studying, you are fine, provided you are able to get a job on time.

Nice one.
About accommodation, your school should tell u the several options available. Am sure it wont be difficult to secure a place over there. Even , getting in Helsinki is pretty easy for guys coming from outside finland cos they are given preference.

Lol......mine was like every 30 minutes.

The online application really made the stuff faster.

The notification usually comes about 2wks after a decision has been made. That is what it takes them to manufacture the card and send to embassy in naija.

Don't worry, if it were negative, u would have been notified already.

Congrats in advance sir!

My toefl certificate never reach me o! Please people what do I do?

It doesn't affect you in any way. Even if you send it with your documents, the school will only reckon with the one sent to them directly from ETS. So if the school wasn't part of the 4 you listed while registering for TOEFL, make sure you make the order asap for the score to be forwarded to them. If u still feel like including something to send with your documents, print out the online result page and send.

All the best!
