Ppogbae: Is this true or am I reading this incorrectly? I guess because there are no Youth competitions this year. That means no travel estacodes and other touring allowances they are now trying to organize those international friendlies, so they can benefit from the budget already kept aside for those tournaments that didn't hold. Public service mentality. |

Philosopher1979: npfl players are too raw to pick up and work on. Rohr is allready picking and working on raw talent. Maduka Okoye is an example. He picked him up from division 4 in Germany. Europe based players are easy to refine because they are allready in a condusive environment. There are many players based in Europe that Rohr can easily turn to world class and market them to a top 5 league. Rohr also did well for Samuel Kalu and made sure he stated in Bordeaux. Rohr should concentrate on players like kelechi Nwakali, Obinna Nwobodo, Muazum etc and see how he can make something out of them. There is hope for such players. Products of our youth teams still have a lot of hope. Adewole oladoye in particular may be world class very soon as he had a sensational debut for Gent Abbass idris who just broke into a team in portugal is there e.t.c Again i repeat, home based players are too raw to refine. To refine a home based player takes at least 2 years and those obscure leagues are doing the job for us as they can move on from there to better leagues in Europe. NPFL PLAYERS ARE SIMPLY NOT READY THE PROBLEM IS THEY ARE LOST IN THE NOSTALGIA OF THE PAST Anayo Iwuala is not George Finidi of Segun Odegbami and Sety Mayi is not Austin Okocha that played for Rangers.
The npfl players of the present just cannot cut it easily. Stop living in the past. Rather try and improve the league and things will fall in place. Stop looking at these players with the eye of the 90's our league has sunk very low. STOP LIVING IN THE PAST Very spot on. For me, any player that is above 23/24 that is still in the NPFL is a waste of time. We can only use the talented ones below 23 (real age) for our youth teams. If you have played 5,6, or 7 seasons in the NPFL and you have not done enough to get European suitors, then you are definitely not good enough. I only see the NPFL as being good enough to pick players for our U20 and U23 teams, with the hopes that some of them will perform well and then get Clubs from Europe. That NPFL is total crap, presently. A league that cannot raise clubs that can compete in Africa. Always relying on bullying away teams to get home wins, in the domestic league. The earlier we stop this Amaju guy and his crew, the better for our football. |

dijon: Bros, I think something big is about to play out...Amaju is owing the foreign based thousands of dollars in unpaid bonus, owing the technical bench many months of unpaid bonuses and salary...He knows he won't pay the home base players dollars as bonus rather he pays them allowances per match. Amaju and his cohorts cash out big time playing this matches in USA, carpenter home base players are happy about the exposure but Nigeria football image in the global world nosedive to the abyss. I would not exonorate our politician Minister of home base football from all this debacle and shenanigans Amaju is pushing to our face. Amaju hands are tied and they all do not care about football development but only after what they can grab. I will start by taking this issue up with the Sports writers Association of Nigeria. And then involve other stakeholders. We need to speak up and stop this man before he finally destroys our football. The only thing of pride left in this country! |

Oldboss: The home-based players of the Super Eagles of Nigeria have another chance to show why they deserve more opportunities in the senior national team when they play friendly matches against Canada, Ghana and Cameroon. The team recently lost 4-0 to Mexico in an international friendly game played at the Los Angeles Coliseum in California, United States. Speaking after the game watched by over 50,000 fans, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Amaju Pinnick, revealed that the federation was on the verge of finalising arrangements for the friendly games, which would hold before the 2022 World Cup qualifiers begin later this year. He added that the matches would hold in the 73,000 capacity M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, United States. NFF President Amaju Pinnick (centre) with home-based Super Eagles at training camps “This is the launchpad we are providing for you to showcase your talents,” Pinnick said while addressing the players. “This team is our pride, and we will keep you and monitor you because you are the next big thing in Nigerian football.” “In October, we will be flying the team to Baltimore for friendly games against Ghana possibly, Cameroun and Canada, maybe. We will sort that out in the coming weeks. We will tidy up all the documentation. You will be playing at the 73,000 capacity M&T Bank Stadium.” In the game against Mexico, Nigeria presented a team made up of players from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) with Ibrahim Sunusi, who plays for Montreal FC the only foreign-based star in the squad. The team’s inexperience showed as they fell to the Mexicans with goals from Hector Herrera, Rogelio Funes Mori and Jonathan dos Santos. Read more: Home-Based Super Eagles Suffer Heavy Defeat Against Mexico Speaking on the game, Super Eagles Head Coach, Gernot Rohr, praised the team for ‘a good outing.’ Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr “These are young players playing in front of over 50,000 fans in a foreign land. It was not easy but they showed they can play this game,” Rohr said. “We are very happy that fans are returning to stadiums after a long time playing in empty stadiums.” “Mexico is number 11 in the world and our young team consist of the best players in the professional league at home. They have learnt a lot from this game. I saw some interesting players who could be useful in our next World Cup qualifiers. Some of these players still have to work to improve physically.” Rohr explained that the game was part of Nigeria’s preparations for the World Cup qualifiers, which will start with a home team against Liberia on September 3. “A few days later, we hope to play against Cape Verde before meeting Central African Republics,” Rohr added. ” It is a long way to the World Cup, but this match has shown that some of the local players can play in the World Cup qualifiers.” “The match was a good lesson for my players because Mexico are one of the favourites for the Gold Cup.” Rather than making use of these games to prepare the Super Eagles for the WCQ Amaju is busy organizing International friendlies with the NPFL boys. What does he want to achieve with these home based players for God's sakes? This guy needs to be stopped. He obviously doesn't know what he is doing anymore. |

Bascovanveli, as always, continue defending mediocrity. Imagine you talking down the Super Eagles team just because you want to defend those NPFL players.
Nigeria, even though not in the league of top footballing nations, has a brand name to protect. Amaju and crew should better know what they are doing. |

BascoVanVeli: The NPFL players didn't select this match na. They didn't tell the NFF to send the main team on holiday. Issorite. Now they have shown to us what they can do if given the opportunity. Let's still see who will come here and start complaining about not giving home based players the opportunity. |

Yet you still get mouth to talk Kudos to Bascovanveli for those video highlights, at least it has gone a long way in projecting the league in good light. At least I watch most of those videos. But the fact remains that the standard of the league remains terribly poor. Watch the enter 90mins of an NPFL game and you will manage to stay awake awake till the 90th minute. |

BascoVanVeli: I still want more international matches for the local guys. How can a team participate in 2 different tournaments (CHAN & WAFU) but yet no get togethers or friendly matches. The whole team had 7 caps put together and that should never happen when there is a local team available. U can only get international experience by playing international matches. I believe this was what the sports minister spoke about so I am keeping faith. Yes, more international matches for them but with fellow WAFU and CHAN Teams and not by wasting tax payers' money in taking them to the US to play Mexico. If it is all about increasing their number of caps why not organize a 4-nations tourney with our WAFU neighbours. At least that would have been a better CHAN/WAFU preparation for them, than going to embarrass Nigeria against Mexico. To say the fact, I would have been surprised if that team had lost by 1 or 2 goals margin. A league that cannot produce clubs that can compete in Africa, what do you expect of players assembled such a league? Look at even how they played. Generally poor football awareness. You will even ask where are the quality coaches to drill these guys. A general lack of quality coaches. That friendly opportunity was a total waste. If we didn't want to play with our Main Super Eagles, at least, It could have been an opportunity to play so many Europe based young players, especially those that would have played in the Olympics if we had qualified. Even if we had lost 4-0 with such a team we still could taken some positives in assessing the level of preparedness of some of the players for the Senior national Team. I had never been in support of executing that Mexico friendly with 100% based team, What a wasted opportunity. |

Beloved3: Hi Mag,
Thanks for reaching out. Yea I was serious with my apologies. I had gone too far in trolling you. I do realize I was wrong on digging out personal stuff. That's lessons learnt for me.
To be honest, I had nothing against you. Like I said earlier I was an old member, deactivated but recently came back and I found some of your posts in support of feminism.
I was just trying to tease and banter with you. I do that with my feminist friends because I have opposing views. Well, I know I somehow got stuck with teasing you on your age range and tribe instead. My sincere apologies on that. It just happened. (BTW, I am Yoruba myself. I was just being mischievous)
Again, It would appear I read regular updates on your diary because I actually ended up following just yourself, a few others and the sports thread each time I log on.
Yes I confess I was quite curious about you anyways (that's why I dug into your posts). Nothing serious really, more like wanting to know more about the author of a book. Well, those questions I dropped, I really wasn't expecting answers from you. I just dropped them to troll.
Well in summary, I identified you as a feminist (or one in the making), I decided to troll/make friendly banters (they came off really wrong), I read your stories and picture diaries and knew there was a lot more (intellectually) to the 'lad' behind the screen, got curious but still trolled.
So I don't know if I have really answered your query. Please feel free to ask if you if you have any you aren't satisfied about.
A lot of intentions get lost in transit on the internet because gestures are not conveyed. I really didn't pick the signs that you were very uncool with the digging and stuff. I would have stopped.
So thanks again Mag, don't bother about the peodo name calling. It's nothing.
Cheers. Begoniaa aka Mag and beloved3, oya you too should just move to the next level. You too are a perfect match Sure you know what I mean |

codemaniacs: IDENNAA is right... it was used by "returnee slaves" who the bri:tish wanted to use to replace indi:genes in Lagos..
it is "pidgin English" not "pidgin Portuguese".. the Portuguese aspect is as a result of the "returnee slaves" been from Brazil..
europeans never ever traded with Africans especially West Africans... Do you know there are some Portuguese words in the Pidgin English? What do you think is the Origin of a word like "Palava"? Early European Traders' interaction with locals along the coast of West Africa brought about the interractions in Pidgin English. Modified: Google is your friend. And when did the returnee slaves arrive the West Coast of Africa? Late 18th to Early 19th century. So before the returnee slaves arrived, the Pidgin English was already being spoken in West Africa, since the 17th Century.

IDENNAA: Introduced by returnee slaves not Portuguese. No. It was used as an early trade language between the locals and Europeans : Mostly English and Portuguese. It is a mixture of English, local dialects and some little Portuguese. |

TheSuperNerd: Benin losing to us at home really came around to bite them hard. Ehyeeaa... Honestly, na Onuachu cos am o But I am really happy for Sierra Leone. They were really fired up for the game. 24hrs before the game, I saw an interview with Anthonia Rudiger of Chelsea whose second country of origin is Sierra Leone. He was really up beat about Sierra Leone making the AFCON. Nigeria actually gave Sierra Leone the life line and the "we can do it" attitude with that 4:4 draw in Benin-City. Other notable 'surprise qualifiers' are Comoros and Gambia. Also, for the first time all the three Guineas would be playing in the AFCON: Guinea - Conakry (the popular Guinea) Equatorial Guinea Guinea - Bissau Something tells me sub-Saharan African teams will dominate this AFCON. |

JohnBullMySon: About seven regular team players were absent. No coach in this world will comfortably win a game with 7 of his first team missing. That's why I don't blame Rohr. Coaching no be magic.
Ekong, Ebuehi, Sanusi, Leon, Aribo, Osimhen, Chukwueze. All no dey. All those players you mentioned had capable replacements, with the exception of Osimhen and Chukwueze. |

Finally FIFA cleared the nff is also working on Michael Olise switch to Nigeria All these Foreign borns switching to Nigeria, well it is good we have a larger pool. But, we at this point, really need to evaluate their impacts in the national team. Cos the way it is now , the top players in that team are Nigerian grown: Osimhen, Ndidi and Chukwueze. JohnBullMySon: No single creativity. Marcus has good ball handling and confidence, but was also slow and predictable.
The only reason why I'm not blaming Rohr is that I expected the result. You can't perform magic when your entire backline is missing, your top strikers and creative winger and midfielders are injured. And we did not play a weak opposition. I expected a better game from today's match. This is not an issue of the back line. The back line we had over both games were mostly players who are not new to the team. The only two Key players missing were Osimhen and Chukwueze. Besides, also Cameroon paraded a poor team over both legs. We are Nigeria, we know how we play the game. What we saw especially today was a far cry from what we have been known for. The team does not even have players with the leadership instinct who can raise his game and carry the other players along. Rohr really needs to raise the tempo of this team before the WCQ starts. Over all, it is a disappointing performance over both legs. |
