EagleScribes: That shouldn't be done. I am saying that we can't depend on them. Can we? You may take one along, and in this case, I will prefer Balogun. But I insist that the same fitness issue is one of the reasons the Super Eagle defence is in shambles
Does Stanley Amuzie have fitness issues or nt? But i can bet u he is one of d most likely players to b in dat Rio squad.Or dnt u think so?
Hoffenheim defender, Kevin Akpoguma, will reject an invitation to play for Nigeria's youth teams as he is an integral member of Germany's Under 20 squad.
Akpoguma, whose mother is German, has been given a chance to display his wares to coach Samson Siasia at the Under 23 national team screening exercise.
The Nigeria Football Federation are doing the groundwork to convince the defender to turn out for Nigeria instead of Germany, and Germany - based Darlington Omodiagbe, a member of the Technical Study Group, has been pressurizing the player.
The retired Nigeria Under 23 international, now a youth team coach at SV Wacker Burghausen, did not bring good news in that regard when he contacted SL10.ng on Tuesday afternoon.
''I have talked to Kevin Akpoguma, we still have work to do to convince him to play for Nigeria,'' Darlington Omodiagbe said to SL10.ng.
''It is not going to be easy, he plays for Germany's Under 20 team. I'll suggest that we offer him something bigger.
''Everything is possible but it won't be easy. His father is from Delta State but grew up in Benin City.''
Though Omodiagbe refused to go straight to the point, it is believed that Kevin Akpoguma will only consider an invitation to play for Nigeria's main squad, the Super Eagles.
The ex Karlsruher SC and FC Bavaria Wörth youth-teamer has clocked up over 40 appearances for Germany's youth teams since his debut in 2011.
EagleScribes: That shouldn't be done. I am saying that we can't depend on them. Can we? You may take one along, and in this case, I will prefer Balogun. But I insist that the same fitness issue is one of the reasons the Super Eagle defence is in shambles
EagleScribes: I agree with you on the addition of Leon Balogun. Our defence is shambolic, same with that of the Super Eagles. But Leon always have fitness issues, and we don't want any last minute disappointments. More of our defensive issues are from the full backs, same with Super Eagles
You're right on Onazi but he's not a regular for his club. He will need lots of time to get back that discipline to the taste of Siasia you've talked about. Moreso, he's not improved on his passing abilities too.
We seriously need a top striker in that team. Unfortunately, I don't rate Ighalo as one
U are saying the same thing TheGoodJoe said abt Omeruo. Fitness issue. So players that are injury prone should never b invited for competitions or matches. ?
I say if Omeruo and Balogun are fit as at when d final selection is made let dem b selected. We will jst have a back up natural CB and a DMF (like Ndidi) with CB capability.
U prefer we throw in Zaharadeen Bello and Segun Oduduwa in there bc Omeruo and Balogun are injury prone.
Oduduwa and Bello fit stand beside Ibrahimovich? Or even face Rodrigues, Okazaki, Cuodrado and d likes?
Siasia wants to creat a slot for Segun Oduduwa by dropping Kenneth Omeruo. Simple.
TheGoodJoe: Remember, Omeruo has fitness issues. Coach Siasia might consider him a risk.
So who else does nt have fitness issues? Is it Stanley Amuzie, Leon Balogun, even Iheanacho is injury prone. So players dat are injury prone should never b invited for competitions. What happened to having a back up CB?
Omeruo has fitness issues yet he played all our matches at 2013 AFCON & 2014 WC.
I think Siasia simply wants some of "his boys" to make d squad. For instance he knows dropping Omeruo for Oduduwa would raise so many questions so he rather not invite Omeruo at all.
confun: oga, whether fit or unfit, sometimes dt guy could be so disastrous..... I don't think we need him.
I am nt in support of Ambrose being in d team either. Jst dat I discovered he is d most disliked member of d Super Eagles so pple see nothing good in him.
I won't b suprised if Ambrose makes it to Rio because he is among "The Siasia boys".
forgiveness: Exclusive: Chelsea Loanee Omeruo Omitted From Nigeria U23s Provisional Roster For 2016 Olympic Games
Published: April 22, 2016
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Chelsea loanee Kenneth Omeruo has not been selected in Nigeria’s provisional squad list for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The 22-year-old had indicated his interest that he would love to represent the Nigeria U23s at the Olympic Games, and had been tipped make the roster, especially as he is within the age limit.
Dream Team VI coach Samson Siasia has drawn up a list of 60 players which has been sent to the Nigeria Football Federation and his name was missing from the roster.
Assuming Omeruo made the squad list for the competition and was given a run out in any of the matches, he would join a select group of players to have played in the five international tournaments sanctioned by Fifa.
The central defender represented the Golden Eaglets at the 2009 Fifa U17 World Cup before starring at the 2011 Fifa U20s, then played at the 2013 Confederations Cup and World Cup the following year.
forgiveness: We don enter one chance with Siasia's selection. Imagine! the unfit and bench warmer Ambrose is on the list as one of the overaged players. Hehehe! We go hear am for Olympics. Na sidon dey watch mood I dey so. Hehehe!
terzurum5: I did prefer Ahmed Musa to Odion Ighalo. I would rather we pick Balogun, Onazi and Ahmed Musa. Omeruo is not overage so we can still fall back to him.
The only reason I would ok Ahmed Musa in that team is bc Ahmed Musa just like Onazi belong to that generation(he is 23+). We need to carry them alone as we build a new Team.
I feel we need at least an over aged defender. I am not too comfortable with the young defenders I have seen so far in the U23 camp. U saw the team loosing 2-3 goals advantages at the CAF U23 tourney.
I think Siasia is paving way for his boys like Oduduwa, Mfreke, Amaefula and Amuzie to make it to Rio. Count me out with this crop of defenders.
Damilare5882: haba.. its not possible.. you are just trying to justify your baseless point... so you are trying to say your graduating set then is more than that of this years of Lautech ... Lai Lai
Go back, calm down and read my comment again. Seems u have issues understanding relativity.
Damilare5882: which institution and how many were you back then
Ogun State University now (Olabisi Onabanjo University). In 2004.
I can't remember the graduating students population. OSU is a conventional University so u should expect its population to be more than that of LAUTECH. Going by students population now, I dnt think this graduating population of LAUTECH would be more than double the Graduating population of OSU in 2004.
AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal the three over-aged players coach Samson Siasia plans to take to the Rio Olympics in August – Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi, Watford striker Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa from CSKA Moscow.
These are the only over-aged players on the 60-man provisional squad for the summer games, we have exclusively gathered.
This means the Olympics dreams of Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi have been dashed.
The Olympics allows for three players who are beyond the eligible age of 23 to feature.
Siasia himself reasoned Mikel, 28, is keen on playing at Rio after he missed out on Beijing Olympics in 2008.
The coach has not hidden his admiration for 26-year-old Ighalo, who he made captain for the 2009 FIFA U20 World Cup in Egypt.
He has also praised the striker’s form in front of goal even though he has struggled to score in recent weeks now for club and country.
Ahmed Musa though was a surprise choice after Siasia stripped him of the Super Eagles captaincy in March.
The CSKA Moscow flying winger looks set to quit the Russian club in the summer with the English Premier League a likely destination.
He has played at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, 2013 AFCON as well as the 2011 U20 World Cup.
Nigeria, whose Olympic team are better known as Dream Team VI, are drawn in Group B alongside Japan, Colombia and Sweden at the games, which begin on August 4. africanfootball.com/news/625983/EXCLUSIVE-Siasia-picks-Mikel-Ighalo-and-Ahmed-Musa-for-Rio
No over aged defender?
Hmm our young defenders will have it hands full facing the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Carlos Bacca, Juan Cuadrado, James Ridrigues, Shinji Okazaki, Shinji Kagawa and co. May God help us.
BlackAlbino6: AF Nigeria 2016 Olympics - Men Football Argentina Siasia dreams to meet Brazil in Rio Olympics final Nigeria coach Samson Siasia has revealed his dream is to come up against hosts Brazil in the final of the Rio Olympics in August.
Both teams clashed at Atlanta ’96 with the South Americans winning in the group stage, before Nigeria stunned them in the semi-finals.
The teams again clashed last month in a friendly in Brazil with Nigeria again winning 1-0. Siasia was at the Rio Olympics draw recently and he said his thoughts of another clash with the Samba Stars came by when he stood by Brazil coach Dunga.
He said he smiled and stood near the Brazil after the draw at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
“I told myself this is the man I would be playing against in the final match!” he revealed.

forgiveness: Well, i hope.... but i have not heard any rumour of his name on the list.
The likes of Musa Mohammed, Godswill Ekpolo, Shehu Abdullahi, Nura Abdullahi, Seth, Ehizibue and Ebuehi will give moses Odubanjo run for their money.
Those two mentioned names resemble themselves. They must nt both play in same team else the commentator would jst be bitting his tongue especially if one passes the ball to the other.
chrisooblog: boss i'm not so sold on the idea of taking mikel to rio. i feel we have better options in form of ndidi, usman and onazi who just need belief and exposure to flourish. i know you will say mikel has experience and will bring control to the midfield but lets be honest the reason we have been using him is because he's the proverbial one eyed man who's king in our blind midfield kingdom. glad onazi is getting games his lack of game time was the main reason i excluded him from my list we will surely need his bullishness in rio.
forgiveness: RIO 2016| List of Siasia’s 10 Over-aged Players
National U-23 team coach, Samson Siasia has included 10 over-aged players in the 60-man list he submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) technical committee for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games in August.
The coach, who has commenced training in Abuja with some of the listed players is expected to pick his final 21 players for the games from the pool which included the 10 over-aged players that would be reduced to three for the final list. Siasia, who disclosed this yesterday in Abuja refused to disclose the names of the 10 players, insisting that it was not yet time to unveil them.
Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, Ogenyi Onazi, Ahmed Musa and Odion Ighalo are some of the over-aged players the former Super Eagles coach would pick from his pool. Siasia, who confirmed reports that the Dream Team VI would be playing Honduras in an international friendly match, noted that the team is not yet prepared for the Olympic Games, even as his target at the Olympics is nothing short of the gold medal. “It is out of place to ask whether we are ready because we are certainly not ready. We just started training and it will take some while for us to be ready. Now that we have known our group opponents and secured some friendly matches after speaking with some of the coaches during the draw, we will be very focused.
“The Honduras coach specifically assured me that he would be ready to lead his team for a friendly with my team during our pre-tournament camping in USA. For me, the most important thing is to put a formidable team together to do the job for us in Rio. “We have a list of 60 players in the pool. It is obvious now that we cannot bring in any new player into those 60 shortlisted players. We have already resumed all the paper work to ensure that we submit the list on time before the deadline.
“The federation has started writing letters to the foreign clubs of the players we penciled down for possible selection. We want to plead with them for permission to release the players for us in August for the tournament.
“I included about 10 over-aged players in the shortlisted 60 players. It became necessary because if we don’t include them in the list, it will be very difficult for them to make the final list. “For now I don’t want to disclose the identity of the over-aged players in the list until I know the current form of the players and the positions we need their assistance.” he noted.
The Dream Team VI coach also dismissed claims that the listing of PSG of France attacker, Zlatan Ibrahimovich and Juan Cuadrago as over-aged players for Sweden and Colombia respectively, could be a threat to the Nigerian side.
“They know why they need those players to play for them, but obviously they can’t scare us. It is not about one individual, it is about a team. We have played against bigger players before in the Olympics. Are they going to present a stronger team that will play against us? That is the question and not about an individual player.” He noted.
A single player like Zlantan Ibrahimovich can single handedly tear apart a top club's defense, talkless of an U23 defense. We need a matured and tested CB pair like Omeruo and Balogun. I will have no fear with our LB if Kingsley Madu handles that position. As for our RB, still open. We can rely on the experience of Onazi or Mikel in the DMF position. With Onazi/Mikel shielding Omeruo and Balogun I think we can effectively cope with Ibrahimovich.
James Rodrigues and Juan Cuadrado are another cause for worry for us. Carlos Bacca is also there. Siasia needs to get his Midfield and defense selections right.
forgiveness: Bros, to react now na money oo. you know what i mean.
Moses Odubanjo was invited to the U23 camp in 2014 but his club refused to realise him as at that time but Moses later went ahead to honour England invitation to play in Toulon Tournament.
I expect Moses Odubanjo to make the Olympics Team if invited. That Right back is about the least keenly contested position in that team.
why should he give them that much sef. They are policemen and that is part of their responsibilities. He should have recommended for them to be promoted instead.
aswani: Olorioko, once Enyimba made the silly mistake of unnecessarily conceding early, it was going to be a long day. Add in the hostile crowd, laser incudents and the ref's first half 'performace' and we should be congratulating them for their strength of recovery.
I tell you. Even Barcelona for no fit win that game of yesterday within the 90mins.
At a point I thought I was watching Man united Vs Enyimba
Nigeria U23 coach Samson Siasia says he isn't scared of threats from Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez and PSG’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Dream Team VI will face Sweden, Colombia and Japan in Group B of the preliminary round of the 2016 Olympics men's football event and the duo have been penciled down to represent their countries.
"There is nothing to fear about Zlatan Ibrahimovich starring for the Swedish team and James Rodriguez staring for Colombia in our Group,” Siasia told Goal.
“These two countries already know their weak areas that they want these mentioned want to come and cover up. So they already have a team on ground.
"But we don't know yet because we are trying to put up a team that would determine which three over aged players we would want to bring. But Sweden and Colombia already know their grey areas.
"Those names like Ibramnovic and Rodriguez won't scare us. It is about the team not about an individual. We have played about bigger names before in competitions. We played against an Argentine team that had Lionel Messi, Gonzalo Huguain, Angel Di Maria and other big players.
“ So we are not scared about the names. We just need to put up a team that hold its own against any team, I mean a team that we can all be proud of?
"We need to think well on the over aged players we want to invite. I don't want to mention names now that later if those names are not there they will be so much disappointed,” he concluded.
