The Nigerian was on parade for the Dragons as they bowed to the Archbishops in the final of the Portuguese Cup on Sunday
Nigeria defender Chidozie Awaziem was handed a starters’ shirt as FC Porto lost the Portuguese Cup to cross-city rivals SC Braga on penalties.
The game was decided via kicks from the penalty spot after scores stood at 2-2 after regulation time.
19-year-old Awaziem made way for Ruben Neves after 46 minutes as José Peseiro’s came from a two-goal deficit to level score in the closing minutes of the game.
Braga had capitalised on defensive errors from Porto to take a two-goal lead courtesy of Rui Fonte and Josue, but Andre Silva scored twice to force the game into extra-time.
With the game undecided after 120 minutes, kicks from the penalty spot was used to separate both teams and Marcelo Goiano converted the winning spot-kick after Hector Herrera and Maxi Pereira had missed for Porto.
The defeat rounded out a miserable season for the Dragons who finished third in the league behind Benfica and Sporting Lisbon. They have not won a title since 2013. http://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/4110/nigerians-abroad/2016/05/22/23826802/awaziems-porto-lose-ta%C3%A7a-de-portugal-to-braga?ICID=HP_HN_3 [/b] cc: TheSuperNerd, tbaba1234, and all others that followed the game live. Though i didn't watch the match but i believe it could have been a tactical switch. Being 2-0 down they needed goals to equalise so it only makes tactical sense to pull off a defender for an attacking player. People that watched the game can give us more clues. |

Note also that Enyimba from their last 5 games have won 4 and drawn 1. This title is Enyimba's again. |

Ojukwu took one of d greatest gambles of the Civil war by putting Victor Banjo, a Yoruba man, in charge of the troup dat was on conquest to Lagos. Banjo got through to Awolowo when the troup approached Ore after over running Benin.
Banjo negotiated a cease fire and d journey on a conquest to Lagos was halted allowing time for d Federal troup to regroup and repel the Biafran soldiers.
The war would have ended in less than 3months had Banjo nt betrayed Ojukwu.

What are thier chances ?
No one is talking about our options on the wings
Moses Simon is the only recognized winger
Musa or Vic Mo might go as overaged
Sheyi Ojo is another great option but he us not a certainty yet ?
We are left with Godwin Savior n Tiongoli Tonbara Stanley Dimgba is also a winger. |

AIG07: this is the same fear I harbour concerning Siasia's selection.
With the options we have in the attack I don't see any reason why we need to waste a slot for an overaged player in Ighalo.
Ighalo is good no doubt about that. But my problem with him is that 'he does not drop back to pick balls' and it showed glaringly in Alexandria not untill the introduction of Iwobi before there was smooth transition from d Mid-field to Attack. The likes of success, sam, chik, Nacho have all grown up to perfectly well to face tough, muscular n stubborn defence line. so, no need of an overage CF in that team. My thoughts exactly! |

joseph1013: Was Osaze ever a Siasia boy? Osaze was in top form then but was dropped for Nsofor and Ogbuke who were Siasia boys.
That's the difference. Ighalo is a Siasia boy. I need someone to convince me how Siasia will drop Ighalo for Success. Siasia is a kind of guy. He may not even invite Success at all for camping. He can prefer to invite Awoniyi, Ajayi and Osimhen ahead of Success, Imoh, Samuel, Chikatara and b giving one kind yeye justification. We are watching and waiting. |

terzurum5:
If I were Coach Samson Siasia, I would just pick one over aged player as a forward instead of taking Ighalo and Musa.
Musa to me will be needed more than Ighalo. Musa's pace and height will be needed more than the ever direct play of Ighalo which can easily be predicted by opponents.
If Siasia must pick an over aged player among our forwards options then, I tip A. Musa.
I concur. Simon Moses and Ahmed Musa our wings pair. |

joseph1013: ^^^Unfortunately, I don't think Siasia will take Ighalo to Rio and leave him on the bench. I seriously doubt it. Siasia took Osaze Odemwengie to Beijin in 2008 but kept him on the bench for most of the time, allowing Obinna Nsofor and Chinedu Ogbuke do their thing. My own is let us not even invite him(Ighalo) at all. Where i have concerns more now is in the CB positions and DMF. Omeruo, hu would have been an underaged bt very experienced CB, has been ruled out.And I dnt know if Siasia has plans of inviting Leon Balogun. U may say Awaziem is there bt I would have prefered a more tested and proven CB pair. As d case may b now we would need a very experienced DMF like Mikel hu can effectively shield our CB making them less prone to attacks and hence mistakes. We dnt have problems with our attack. |

tbaba1234: Top Nigerian players in Europe this season
Ighalo (first half of season) Isaac Success (player of the season for Granada) Ndidi (Regular all season) Iheanacho (excellent, when he played) Musa (Champion, Again) Iwobi (Great end to season)
I look at the above list and notice that only Ighalo and Musa can be considered regulars for the SE. Players like Ndidi and Success who have been consistent did not get a look-in.
Honourable mention.
Balogun (when he is fit) Awaziem (break through season) Ndidi featured under Keshi and Oliseh. Iheanacho and Iwobi first featured under Oliseh and then under Siasia. They cannot just automatically become regulars, they will have to earn it. Success: The only player on that ur list that has nt been invited is Isaac Success. This is largely connected to the already long list of strikers available for selection: Ighalo, Ardi,Iheanacho, Samuel, Chikatara. Even a more experience striker like Imoh Ezekiel was nt considered by both Oliseh and Siasia. Ndidi: For a player like him to become a regular he has to displace the more experienced Onazi and Mikel But remember also we have other upcoming DMF that are competing with Ndidi at U23 level. Iheanacho: The coaches have still nt found a most effective role for him. Though some analyst (me inclusive) believe he should b played at CF Oliseh and Siasia played him as AM. Iheanacho has nt yet stamped his authority in the Super Eagles. Iwobi: He IMO has settled fastest among the newly introduced young players. We can effectively use him as a Wing forward or a number 10. Nigeria for years has been searching for a modern number 10 & Alex Iwobi from d two games against Egypt has annouced himself a our new number 10. Bc we have wing options like Moses, Musa and Simon, I will prefer Iwobi to concentrate on the number 10 role. God willing and also Siasia willing all four of Success, Ndidi, Iheanacho and Iwobi would make it to the Olympics and lets see how they would do their thing. Awaziem also deserves a place in the provisional list. For Rio In a 4-5-1 formation i would prefer Iheanacho leads the attack. With a master passer like Iwobi playing behing him, Iheanacho with his goals convertion ratio would become a goals scoring machine. Isaac Success can be a sub for Iheanacho or Iheanacho plays SS for him in a 4-4-2 formation (jst like the Iheanacho-Aguero's partnership). We dnt need Ighalo in that attack. I believe this young forwards can deliver the goods.Lets just limit d over aged players to the defense and DMF positions. |

TheGoodJoe: I doubt he will make the starting line up but the young man needs to believe in himself. He needs to keep working hard and he will improve.
If he maintains his stats and even improve, it will not take long for clubs to come for him.
The competition in the midfield is hard. It will take class to break into a midfield that has Azubuike, Etebo and Mikel battling for a starting place.
Usman Mohammed showed great form in Chan. Azubuike just clocked 18, Karo Etebo is 21, There are also Akinjide Idowu and Chidi Nwakali hu fall withing this age bracket. I saw Ifeanyi Ifeanyi playing for MFM in a league game 2weeks back. That boy also holds lots of promises. Onazi is 24 and so baring any injuries or deep in form has many years ahead. The other younger players would really have to up their games to b a prefered DMF choice for d Super Eagles. |

TheGoodJoe:
We are not comparing him to Oliseh but tipping him to grow into that kind of player. This was not his usual role but the Dynamite Kid (Stolen from TheSuperNerd's research files - Hehe) is learning fast.
Goal rate? We can not use Onazi to compare because Onazi has five goals in his whole professional career playing in the midfield, for both club and country.
Wilfred "The Dynamite Kid" Ndidi has four goals this season.
He has a lot to learn and we know it but
TheSuperNerd is like Morpheus and like Neo In The Matrix, I AM BEGINNING TO BELIEVE.
By the way, beating Anderlecht 5-2 by Gent is a massive victory. I hope they make it. Good. No room for comparison yet. Not writing down Ndidi. He is one of my favorite young players bt I need him to move to a more competitive league. Besides, he has Ogenyi Onazi and Azubuike Okechukwu to contend with for the DMF position in d Super Eagles. |

Napoleon55: I've not really accessed NDIDI's kind of play to be able to rate him properly whether he belongs to the group of players I can confidently rate as world class,or has the potential to be world class. If anybody in the house can help give an unbiased analysis of his play,I'll appreciate. Is his passing accuracy as good as Olisey's?his dribbles and speed, his markings and tackling, his vision and long balls. Wilfred Ndidi, though lately i have only seen highlights of his goals. I have a better knowledge of him as a Centre back. He played d CB role at the 2013 AYC, 2013 WYC and 2015 WYC. I would say he was rock solid as a CB in all of those tourneys. He currently plays as a DMF at club level a new fashioned out role. I cannot for now compare him with Oliseh cos i have nt seen any 90mins of his game. People comparing Ndidi with Oliseh should recall that Oliseh was only 19 when he featured at the 1994 AFCON and 94 WC. Oliseh was 21 @ 1996 Olympics. Those of u dat really watched Oliseh play those tourneys would recall Oliseh's authority as a DMF. Most of Yekini's and Amuneke's goals came as long crosses from Oliseh. Ndidi is currently 20years old but does he have the kind of aurhority and influence that a 19yrs old Oliseh had? Ndidi scores goals of which i can liken him more to Ogenyi Onazi. Yes, he can one day become a better player than Oliseh but comparing him as he is now with d 19yrs old Oliseh of the 1994 AFCON and WC? Hmmm. |

Among the Nigerian delegation are NFF executive committee member Babagana Kali as leader of the administrative crew, NFF assistant technical director Siji Lagunju with coach Emmanuel Amuneke leading the coaching crew.
Upon their arrival, the Flying Eagls were excitefully welcomed by officials of the Nigeria Embassy in Burundi led by the deputy secretary Chrisantus Micheal and counselor officer Chukwueze Dennis. Also present to receive the team were officials of the Burundian Football Association.

amagunnerfan: Bro that boy will be there soon. Looking inevitable. He will be Arsenal's new paddy Vieira and will be greater than Oliseh.
Quote me. A fellow gunner has spoken. And I say very well spoken. I said it before that a player like Kelechi Nwakili comes to Nigeria once in a decade. Okocha 1990s; Mikel 2000s; Nwakali 2010s. Nwakali, apart from being a highly skillful and talented midfielder, is not so injury prone due to the way he plays; just like Okocha and Mikel. Players like these tend to do well in the long run. They tend to remain in the spot light for a longer time. In terms of Team selection, I think Azubuike Okechukwu, Kelechi Nwakali and Ifeanyi Mathew can be well accommodated in this Team. Each of them can play DMF, CM and AMF roles respectively. With Musa Yahaya and Samuel Chukwueze tearing opponents from the wings and Victor Osimhen or Sadiq Umar doing his thing up front: ..................Azubuike ...............................Nwakali/Mathew Chukwueze..........Mathew/Nwakali.........Yahaya .........................Osimhen/Sadiq Sincere Seth, John Lazarus and Nura Abdullahi will compete for the RB Position. We also have Awaziem and Zakari CB pairing. Anumudu is at LB. This is a killer squad! |
