forgiveness: Bros Ye..., I didn't mention these players. Please check from the one's you emboldened.
However, please kindly tell me the Youth teams : Abiodun Obafemi, Tesilim Fatusi and Emmanuel Amuneke played for?
Where were the likes of Taribo West, Kingsley Obieku and Garba Lawal based before they were been infused into the team?
As you rightly said no 'UNKNOWN' Europe based players were infused into that team and so shall it be in these present team.
Bros, please tell us, who are the unknown Europe based players in my list and who are the known Europe players in your list?
Let's compare and contrast.
Please, check my list before you write ooo. Abiodun Obafemi and Teslim Fatusi were part of the 1993 U20. Emmanuel Amuneke played at the 1991 AAG (Cairo 91). Garba Lawal was in Esparence de Tunis, Taribo West was in Julius Berger while Kingsley Obieku was in d Nigerian league also. And all 3 were part of the qualifiers and were nt picked from Europe to be infused into d team. |

forgiveness: Thank God you were able to pinpoint only three out the players I listed that were never part of the Youth system. The rest were completely infused into the team from European clubs.Whether home grown or not, what I know is they were the best Nigerians available at that particular time.
However, all those players you mentioned already played for England national team and were not eligible to play again for Nigeria. Besides John Salako is a home grown player now but still went ahead to play for the 3 lions. So, they should not be used as your point of reference.
Of course, I was not expecting them to get automatic place but all I am saying is let's give them a trial.
you say what... I dey come For where? In that team too were Celestine Babayaro, Wilson Oruma, Abiodun Obafemi, Teslim Fatusi, Nwankwo Kanu, Mubi Oparaku, Emmanuel Amuneke, Emmanuel Babayaro all of which were from our youths system. The other players apart from Kingsley Obieku, Garba Lawal, Taribo West and Dosu Joseph were already Super Eagles players ie Uche Okechukwu, Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh. No Anglo-Nigerian or any other unknown Europe based player was infused into dat team. Dnt get me wrong. I am nt trying to say we should shut-out foreign grown players. My take is they should nt b given any undue preference. I personally am nt expecting much from them .History has it that such players have nt made any difference in the Super Eagles. |

joseph1013: I WANT TO PLAY AT RIO OLYMPICS SAYS MIKEL
https://africanfootball.com/bp_images/2015/12/Samm_7_August_1.jpg
Chelsea star Mikel Obi has said he wishes to feature at next year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro as one of three over-aged players, it has been exclusively gathered.
The 28-year-old Mikel has won almost every major trophy at stake including the UEFA Champions League and English Premier League, but he has so far missed out on playing at the Olympics.
Incidentally, it was coach Samson Siasia who left him out from the 2008 Beijing Olympics after he had stayed away from the qualifiers for the competition.
“He has made it clear he wishes to play at the Rio Olympics,’ a top official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) specially revealed.
“But it is left for the coach to pick who will be the overage players he will take along to Brazil next year.”
For the 2008 Olympics, Siasia took along Ozase Odemwingie and Victor Anichebe as overage players.
Nigeria, back under Siasia, will lead Algeria and South Africa to the 2016 Olympics in August after they clinched the U23 AFCON in Senegal at the weekend.
http://africanfootball.com/news/594081/I-want-to-play-at-Rio-Olympics-says-Mikel Mikel has never played in the Olympics. Mayb this might jst be his chance. But he needs to visit TB Joshua before joining the Team, he is in a jinxed club. |

forgiveness:
Bros, I never land na before you start to crucify me now.
Yes, my argument boils down to the fact that we should not restrict our dragnet to only home grown players but to also extend it to identified potential players. That's all.
That's what I am talking about many of those players were never the products of our youths system, but they were infused directly into the National team after their performance in top European leagues e.g Taribo West, Tijani Babangida, Victor Ikpeba, Garba Lawal, Jay Jay Okocha, Daniel Amokachi, Sunday Oliseh etcetera. And I far as any player is eligible to play for Nigeria, they should be given equal opportunity to play for their father land if they so wish or are convinced to do so.
Remember, David Alaba made himself available for our 2007 under 17 winning team but he was told point blank that we don't need foreign grown players. Where are those under 17 players today and compared them to where David Alaba is presently? You know the answer.
Please, kindly take note that Omerue is included in my first eleven players. And my choice for another player apart from Ambrose is simply my opinion.
Your asked at what level Ilori and Aneke have played. OK, let me simple say that Ilori has played at the highest level of club football. He has played for Sporting Lisbon( a team topping the portuguese-liga) portugal, Granada Spain and Bordeaux France. His last season with Bordeaux was very successful because he was part of the team that secured Europa league ticket for this season. He has played in Europa league before.
Aneke played for Crewe Alexander in third level of English league for three good seasons before singlehandedly helped them to win the Football League Trophy in 2013 and became the highest goal scorer for his team in the same year with 14 goals. This earned him a direct transfer to the Belgium league. His team is presently jostling for the UEFA Champions League ticket for next season.
Remember that Messi was never part of Argentina youth system but the Argentina FA tussle with the Spanish FA to have him play for them. Now, behold it was the best decision they have ever made.
So, far they have not rejected publicly to play for Nigeria, so we should give them a chance because they could become our Messi. From that ur list Tijani Babangida, Austin Okocha and Victor Ikpeba were products of our youth system prio to 1996 Olympics and Yes all those u listed are all home grown. That 1996 Team was made up of players that came through our youths system or were already playing for the Super Eagles. Not that we went and started chasing one John Fashanu, John Salako, Chris Amstrong or Ugo Ehiogu hu were the English groomed Nigerians then. I am not saying we should shut-out players hu are nt home grown. What I am saying is those Euro-Nigerian players should not be given any preference. All those Chuba Akpom, Dominic Solanke, Jodon Ibe, Tiago Ilori, Chuks Aneke are to me nt even better than the crop we presented in Senegal. Simple. Dnt let that over-rated English league deceive you. If they are to be part of the Dream Team VI, they should show-up for open camping. And let the coaches pick the best, but I know that if the selection is devoid of sentiments most of those Euro-Nigerian players will nt make that Dream Team VI final list. |

Sports › Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by Icon4s(m): 11:37pm On Dec 14, 2015 |
forgiveness: I noticed that many of us didn't really know how Nigeria(the dream team) was able to concur the world to emerge the winners at the 1996 Olympics football game in Atlanta. Many people do not really know how the so called Nigeria underdog team that were so called after been humiliated in their last friendly match at the National stadium prior to the Olympics which I personally witnessed at the stadium were able to defeat the almighty Brazilian and Argentina teams that paraded the best players in the world at that time or later became the best players in the world after the Olympics e.g Ronaldo, Bebeto, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Dede, Juninhor, Ortega, Hernan Crespo, Ayala, Diego Simon, etcetera etcetera.
This achievement didn't just come by mere luck or by trial and error. This feat was possible because the coach identified and picked players that were tested and trusted in top European leagues. Players that have already established themselves in their own clubs and in top European leagues. In fact, most of those players have already won laurels for themselves and their respective clubs. These laurels ranges from African footballer of the year, UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, Africa nations cup, Eredivisie, Belgium pro league, Highest goal scorer(for their team), English FA cup, Belgium young player of the year, Coupe the France etcetera prior to the Olympics.
In this light, I want to present to you the profiles of these players before they made history by winning the Olympics football game in Atlanta in 1996. These will further help buttress my point that believe best players must be selected based on club performance rather than sentiment.
Celestine Babayaro: He is one of the best left back player Nigeria ever produced. Prior to the 1996 Olympics football game, Babayaro was already a regular players with Anderletch for two good seasons (1994/1995 & 1995/1996) in First Division. He helped his team to win the 1994/1995 league and 1995/1996 Belgium Super cup prior to the Olympics in 1996 which earned him the Belgian young football player of the year twice in both seasons.
Taribo West: Taribo seems to be the only player that was brought from a second division team in Europe to play in the 1996 Olympics. However, he helped Auxerre to successful win the Division 1 league to gain promotion into the Eredivisie league in 1996\1997 and the Coupe the France cup in 1994 & 1996 prior to the first victorious Olympics football game by an African team. His just promoted team won the 1996/1996 Ligue 1. As we can see he played regular before he man our defense at the Olympics.
Nwankwo-kanu: This name is a house hold name in Nigeria. He doesn't need much introduced but for the sake of those who don't know him before the Olympics, I will highlight his profile. He won 3 Eredivisie league(1993/1994,1994/1995 & 1996/1997), UEFA Champions League (1994/1995), UEFA Super Cup(1995) and Intercontinental Cup(1995) before he singlehandedly and heroically punctured the dreams of Ronaldo and his co dreamers from winning the Olympics for the first time with his sublime and well taken two goals that earned us the Finals. As you also see he was used to winning for top teams before.......
To be continued..... My oga forgiveness, well done. I usually like ur line of arguments cos u usuually load them with facts jst like the ones above. Firstly, I am sure u won't include me in d list of those that didnt know how d original Dream Team won d Gold medal. The last qualifying game was against Zimbabwe. 1st leg in Harare and Nigeria won 1-0 , goal scored by Teslim Fatusi. He celebrated d goal with a dance at d touch line, facing d Zimbabwean crowd hu responded by throwing things at him. The return leg was played at the Surulere 'slaughter house'- The national stadium, Surulere and we won 2-0(2 first half goals). The team was engaged in 2 friendlies in Nigeria as tune up matches for d Olympics. First game was against Ajibade Babalade led Shooting Stars which they won 2-0. The 2nd friendly was against the Hawks of Togo(d senior team) and our Olympic team fell 3-1.So u see, i know that team wella. I know ur arguments boils down from d fact dat u want to see d inclusion of some non- Nigerian grown talents like Ilori, Solanke, Aneke, and likes and also some other Nigerian born players u mentioned. U must recall that those players in ur mention above were either products of our youth system or were members of d Super Eagles. I recall u said u dnt want tovsee d likes of Ambrose or Omeruo in d team dat u prefare Ilori at centre back.U are jst contradicting urself in such an instance. Omeruo and Ambrose are AFCON winners and have participated in d FIFA world cup. Both are also products of our youths system. At what level has Ilori or Aneke played? See, Nigeria has nt benefited from those Europe or English groom Nigerian players cos dey turn out average. Our best players have always been those raised from Nigeria before playing in Europe. Besides, most of those Ilori, Aneke, Solanke dat u are mentioning are nt even interested in playing for Nigeria. |

wanchope: It is no longer news that the Dream team VI are the Champions of the African U-23 recently held in Senegal and have equally qualfied for RIO 2016 Olympics. Coming to the issue of selecting 3 over aged players, i think coach Siasia should select one defender, a defensive midfielder and an attacking midfielder. My reason for this is because of the number of goals we concieved. Lets be honest, if it was not for the talent and brilliance of our goalkeeper we would not have won the trophy or even qualfied for the Olympics. My choice are :Oboabona, Ogenyi Onazi and Visitor Moses.. Feel free to add yours. I would prefare 2 defenders and 1 defensive midfielder. Leon Balogun, Efe Ambrose and Ogenyi Onazi are my picks. |

Yes I know the guys who qualified deserve to be given priority but hey so long as these guys are Nigerian, they also have a right to make it into the team Omeruo is U23. U have only mentioned 1 over-aged player: Onazi. Hu are ur other 2? |

BascoVanVeli: People might think this man gets too much publicity but i don't share those sentiments, right now make no mistake about it he is the best striker in England. In every single match this man has a hand in the outcome. We can wait till forever for the next great superstar or we can embraces the players flying our flag the highest. Messi and CR7 are once in a lifetime occurrences just like Okocha and Yekini. If we give Odion his rightful chance to be the man then who knows how he will be remembered. His numbers if kept up should make him an automatic selection. I perfectly understand your point bro. But u see, one area where this Olympic team is not lacking talent is in the attack. Odion Ighalo may be our best striker but if u watched the CAF U23 Team, our problem is not in the attack but the midfield and defense. Take a look at these strikers/supporting strikers/AM: Success, Iheanacho, Ezekiel, Etebo, Awoniyi, Sokari, Ajayi and Osimhen of which not all of them may make it to Rio. Any 4 or 5 players that can emerge from this crop of 8 would be good enough to do the job. |

We needed this Olympic like as if the future of Nigeria depended on it. It is a known fact that most countries build there national teams from the Olympics.
