Thank you for sharing your personal experience here. They were educative. This is the main reason why I find basing our team selection based on the choices of foreign club coaches detrimental to the team.

FIXED

TheGoodJoe:
I spent about 15 years in the national team but those who do not know won’t believe it. I was a product of eight years before I broke into the national team. I started with the Green Eagles in November 1981.

We started camp with 182 players and it was Rabar Madjer that denied us a place at the World Cup. That was the Chukwu, Odegbami era and the team was disbanded.

When it was going to be rebuilt, over 140 players were invited and that was when I met the likes of Ben Iroha, Monday Eguavoen, Azuka Abor, Bright Omokaro, Peter Rufai, Steven Keshi and the late Benjamin Okorogwu who was my room mate at the NIS camp.

When the team was cut to 60, I made the list and when it was cut to 30 I also made it and we began camping for the Libya’82 Nations Cup but I was dropped at the end of the day.

http://www.transparentnigeria.com/news_entries/26308/Keshi,-Amokachi-ruined-US%E2%80%9994-Super-Eagles-%E2%80%93Moses-Kpakor

An example how it was done back in the days. All these, this one scored in China, this one has a regular shirt in Hong Kong, this one the coach dropped on bench means he should not go to World Cup is all guess work.

Unless someone can come up with another system that can give a precise method of screening out the best players for the country and give all the potential quality players a fair chance, we will keep going to tournaments and games without the best players.

Thank you! I went to college in the East Coast. Bros, that man almost made me doubt myself .... because at that time I was just a newbie and wasn't well schooled in the "American school of racism" yet. He would make it sound like he's trying to push me to maximize my potential, but as time goes on I began to realize that there was a different agenda.

I mean, I could score 2 goals but if we lose he would ask why I didn't score 3! In addition, anytime we lose it's because I didn't have a great game but when we win he would give the credit to almost everyone else before he remembers me.

That's why I tend to sympathize with our players when these TV pundits pick on them for criticisms. Many of those folks have their own agendas and we ought to take everything they say with a big dose of salt.

Yup. As I was watching the hearing yesterday, all I kept saying to myself was 'let's hope that Eni's experience is gonna make the likes of Tammy Abraham etc to understand what's really going on .... '

I have lived in the US for over 20 year but people still perceive me as a Nigerian, even though they know very well that I am a US citizen!
And I had said a few times here in the forum, when I was playing for my college team, I realized that as a black guy (especially an African immigrant), you have to be twice as good as the other guys in order to start ahead of them. Actually, as a black dude you have to be twice as good but if you're an African, the odds increases .... as an African, you have to be three times as good in order to play!

O pari

tbaba1234:
Eni Aluko has been vindicated. It has been proven that he did make racist remarks against her. The FA tried to cover it up and she faced a lot of backlash.

Baba, I was just making projections sha .... I couldn't find any sources grin

But I think you may correct that the other countries are to be potted according to their confederations, after the top 8 seeds. I don't know how I feel about that tho; in theory, it ought to favor Nigeria but you gotta reckon with all the politics and manipulations in FIFA. They might cease that opportunity to manipulate the draws.

O pari

Icon4s:
May I ask the source of these pots?

After the Top 8 seeded teams, the other countries are to be potted according to their confederations and not FIFA rankings.

Eg all African teams are to be in one pot with some teams from another confederation to make it up to 8 teams.

Lastly, how can Tunisia and DR Congo who are both justling for one ticket both be in the draws?
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 1:52pm On Oct 19, 2017
TB, do you know something we don't know? Has the NFF released the invite list for Algeria? Or are you making these projections without even knowing who would be invited?

As regards to your projections, I will expect to see Aina, Etebo, and Ogu start, but I am not too sure about Ebuehi and Onyekuru. Ebuehi may come off the bench though. And something tells me that Awazien might start that game. Mark my words.

O pari

tbaba1234:
Onyekuru adds unpredictability to Nigeria. Similar to Victor Moses. I think, he can be an important part of our world cup campaign.

For Algeria,

Starting Line-up

Ezenwa(Currently number 1 and deservedly)
Aina LB
Balogun
Ekong (Oyinbo wall is the most likely WC defensive partnership, the more they play together, the better)
Ebuehi (Time to justify your invites)
Onazi (Back to fitness, always ready to do a job)
Etebo (has not been seen in recent games, time to come back to reckoning)
Ogu (Another one that needs to justify invites)
Onyekuru (To add offensive bite)
Iwobi
Ighalo
(In better form than Kelechi)

The team above can beat Algeria away. I think it is a fine blend of experimentation and blending players into the team.

That's likely to happen, but it all depends on Awazien's form - both at his club and at the national team. Rohr believes in him but I think he went down the pecking order after the SA game. However, if he puts up a stellar performance against Algeria and keeps a good form at his club, I think he stands a chance of displacing Ekong because if we could see those mistakes from Troost, then better know that Rohr sees them as well.

O pari

Danielnino00:
Balogun and Awazeim?

Barring any injury,I believe Rohr will stick with the Oyibo wall in Russia.. it's not just about their form...They have been partnered together many times and seem to have a good understanding of each other and that's very vital...
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 1:54am On Oct 18, 2017
I totally agree. Any experienced side would punish many of those his stray passes and those occasional lapse in concentrations.

O pari

Icon4s:
Rohr has stated the Algeria game is a must win.

Rohr needs to work on Ekong. Let him not turn out to be our weakest link in the WC.

I don't completely rule out Awaziem displacing Ekong but it is not likely.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 7:42pm On Oct 17, 2017
Yea, I totally agree. And I don't think that Rohr would play an wholly experimental side against Algeria either. At most, you will see Awazien partner Balogun in CD along with players like Etebo, Ogu, Nacho, and Aina starting.

And by the way, I can go on a limb here and predict that our CD partnership in Russia would be Balogun and Awazien, with Aina starting on the LB. Mark my words.

O pari

Icon4s:
Yeah. We need to maximize the period.

We also need to win the Algeria game to continue building the momentum. Even if we are testing new players they must be given the mandate to win as that is a major justification for their inclusion.
It is not a friendly but a WC qualifying game and the consequence of losing would be heavy on our FIFA ranking.

Baba, I think one is in the works already. Good insights tho cool

O pari

Icon4s:
Unfortunately, there may not be enough window for friendlies as CAF has lined up AFCON qualifiers for the FIFA window early next year.

We should have planned 1 few days after the Algeria game next month which is the last FIFA free window for this year.

We can also plan a friendly a few days after the Seychelles game in march next year.

Hopefully when the season closes early May next year we'll play a couple of friendlies to aid final squad and team selection.

As the Spanish people would say, 'the couple owns the marriage, the family owns the wedding'. So just tell them, "It's your wedding, our marriage". Their job in the whole thing was to plan the wedding .... everything about whom to marry and when to marry should be left for the couple to decide.

Not only that, they started propping up Shinji Okazaki once Iheanacho joins Leicester. It's like Okazaki suddenly became Leo Messi overnight!
I honestly have no idea what the British pundits have against Nigerian players .... seriously! I have been watching them for years and it's always the same story with every Nigerian players: starting with Celestine Babayaro, to Kanu, Jay Jay, Martins, Mikel, etc etc.

And in addition, I felt a little concerned when Nacho joined Leicester. That club has a very powerful clique and if you're not within the clique you won't play ..... and if the coach dare plays you, the players would start losing games. That's what happened to Ranieri. He was starting the "wrong players" (like Musa); hence, folks like Vardy, Mahrez, etc refused to give full effort to the team until the poor man lost his job.

KPOM! KPOM!! KPOM!!!

O pari

kennysville:
Firstly, I am a patriotic Nigerian. Secondly, I choose objectivity as against bias. I have noticed how you address issues and I must say you should try tone it down a bit. Let us understand one fact, this issue of dropping deep only aids buid up plays but also only works in a team set up with clear objectives. To score goals!

Iheanacho is not exactly gonna take the ball from the goal keeper and still find time to pass to himself to score. Its one thing or the other. It cant be both. At the start of the second half he did drop deep. But leicester team is not a team well drilled in the art of progressive attack. They lack a play maker. And that is where ManCity is thriving now. Take out DeBruyne and you will see that half your problem of facing city is solved. I cant ever recall a time in the game when Ndidi made a through pass with the aim of pickin out Iheanacho. His passes were all sideways. So are you trying to change his role from an SS to a 10?

That is where objectivity comes in. All i saw Iheanacho do yesterday was make runs with no one in particular picking him out. Leicester didnt look like a team that had a 10. And if they think they had and are referring to Mahrez as the 10, then they are deluded. I would av expected a solid bond between vardy, mahrez and iheanacho. But it was almost like each one playin for himself. Thats why I said Vardy, all pace , no brain. He has the energy and the grit but not channelling it wisely. It is the understanding of what electricity can do that gave rise to what we see today. Average 11000 volts can kill. Yes we know ! But is it desirable in that mode? Is it productive? To use such electricity, you have to step it down to something usable. If you dont believe me, plug ur phone directly to 240v source using live and neutral wires instead of ur phone charger.

If you check my posts, I am not one of those that sing Iheanacho's praises. I analyse and I say what i saw just the way it is. Let us understand that the dude just had his second start and is just coming back from injury. What I see working for shakespeare is his blatant kick and follow soccer which at best earns him a draw. You will agree with me that this is not the same Leicester team under Ranieri. Running down Iheanacho just so as to prove ur earlier assertions or assessments of him in your previous discourses with other people is a bit unfair.

What makes a boat float is not what makes a plane fly and so we have to be objective when we discuss. I never ran down Vardy to make Iheanacho look good. You have to look at the way Leicester team is set up wholistically. Personally, I cant say I am surprised at the result they got. I couldnt care less if they scored after Iheanacho was subbed. I care more about the quality that comes to fore when a coach plays with attack in mind.

With the way leicester is set up, Iheanacho needs our prayers!
