It's devastating to hear from the radio this evening that Carl Ikeme has been retired abruptly from football due to Acute Leukemia..

I pray for his quick recovery IJN.

As the search for safe hands is being unearthed by our goal keeper trainer,Alloy Agu who has finally seen the urgent need for one or two quality Gks.I know for sure that Akpeyi has played his last game for the Super Eagles as Rohr has stated that he ( Akpeyi) has failed to cover himself in glory.

1.I dont want to see Akpeyi near my darling team the Super Eagles.I have never seen a so called professional GK looking so jittery with zero confidence all my life.

2.I suggest that Enyeama be recalled to the team ASAP.

3.Any player who is not ready to sweat, break bone, bleed for 9 ja must stay away from the team.

4.Rohr assistants are lazy to work. You will soon understand what i mean.

5.Rohr is not working with the best.Coaches like Bamboye,Maikaba,Amunike should be the ones to work with him.

6.As we prepare for Chan, the best must be selected. It is sad to say that the best are not in the NPL but in academies and on the streets.

7.We need to invite new goalkeepers.Akpeyi and Ezenwa must be dropped.Plateau utd ( Ajiboye ) gk,Akwa United gk and Remo stars gk are better shot stoppers.

8.Over confidence is fast becoming a norm for our players.Who told them that Cameroun is a walkover.it looks as if they hv nt learnt from their defeat to S/A.

9.Our local champions should please excuse themselves from participating in Continental tourneys be it Caf confed etc.

10.Our sport governing body be it LMC,NFF,NRF,Shakeholder must go back to the drawing board and proffer solutions to move our sports forward.

11.We must go back to the grass root, unearth players, blend time with time bfr we get our ready products.see the success of Germany.

12.God fatherism,Juju,Nepotism,Bribery/Corruption must stop in every facet of our nations.Only the best must be selected inrespective of tribe, religion etc.

Wetin i day type sef,gibberish??..

My brother, you must be a mind reader because I was just about to post the same exact thing!

Reminds me what Awo said just before the Nigeria - Biafra war, "If the East secede, the Yoruba's will follow suit". Then the East seceded and Awo, the snake, turned around to become the Finance Minister and the policy of starvation (as an instrument of war) against Biafra! Anyway, you've said it all believe a Yoruba man at your own peril.

This time around, the Yorubas has to go first and we will follow.

Please say it isn't so!

May God help Nigeria! If so, then we'll definitely need to beg Vince Enyeama to come out of retirement. We can't afford to have Akpeyi in goal any more. And I don't understand why they don't wanna invite Emmanuel Daniels either. He's far better than Akpeyi.

Omo, we're talking about the mid-80s Naija families here. How many families can afford a VCR at that time ... not even sure that they do exist at that time sef. That's why I would lay all the blames squarely at the feet on the NFF (abi na NFA). Our football house ought to have archives and records department where the tapes of all our national team matches can be assessed.

I have even taken my crusade to the NTA Lagos sef, but I was told that they could barely afford VCR tapes in those days; hence, they tend to record over used video tapes. That's naija for you, right there!

O pari

TheGoodJoe:
What stops Etim Esin or a family member of his from accessing his tapes and uploading them on YouTube? They should do it. The younger generation needs these clips to improve themselves.
SportsRe: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2027, 2028 And 2030 World Cup by Icon79(m): 5:08pm On Jul 06, 2017
You're absolutely correct! Word is that his controversial personality prevented him from reaching his potential. He was always been mentioned along side Etim Esin as two great talents who wasted their potential due to attitude problems.

O pari

Icon4s:
Tarila Okoronwanta. I know him more as a former junior international. He was part of the 1983 Flying Eagles that featured at the 1983 WYC in Mexico alongside Wilfred Agbonavbare, Taju Disu, Yisa Shofoluwe, Humfrey Edobor and others.
That team was the first ever Nigerian team to compete in any FIFA organized competition.

I am struggling to recall his senior international career level because he was not much successful as a senior player (just like most of the other youth players of the 80s).

I knew him for his flamboyance both on and off the pitch. Very controversial also Just like Balotelli. He was really very skillful and would always pull stunts especially when we were leading in a game.

The then Radio Nigeria football commentator, late Ernest Okonkwo, had a special way of pronouncing that name. Still echos in my memory: " Tarila Okoronwanta..!" with the stress on the "nwanta...".

Golden memories.

do4luv, actually, the original enfant terrible of naija footie was Tarila Okoronwanta. I didn't watch him play but I heard of his exploits. I believe Etim Esin took after him. It's really sad that you can't find any youtube clips of these guys anywhere. Our NFF is truly useless.

I mean, these guys all played in the late 80s to early 90s ... there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't have their games in video somewhere.

PoliticsRe: Nnamdi Kanu And His Supporters At Douglas Road, Ekeonunwa Market Owerri (Photos) by Icon79(m): 2:33pm On Jul 06, 2017
Yes, he sure did but you gotta be politically savvy when it comes to certain things. His threats are empty threats. How many brigades does Nnamdi Kalu command? But to arrest him and put him in jail without trial would only serve to make him more popular for being a political prisoner.

They claimed that he arrived Nigeria without any international passports whatsoever. Hence, if Buhari and his advisers were smart, what they could've done was to detain him at the airport and put him on the next available flight back to where he came from. That would've been the end of Nnamdi Kalu. He would've gone back to Germany (or where) and kept making noise on his internet radio.

It was the same mistake that Babangida (was it IBB or Abacha) made when they killed Ken Saro Wiwa. His death only helped to mobilize the Niger Delta youths.

O pari

monex:
he actually made threats and therefore should be arrested.

however, a DPO in iyana-ipaja should have been enough

Icon4s, you're truly an encyclopedia, where Naija footie is concerned. I have heard so much from my senior brothers about the exploits of Yisa and Adokiye in the Super Eagles shirt. And they said exactly what you just said. They all said that it was Yisa who invented the wingback position in Naija footie. And according to them, Adokiye was actually the most skillful player in the Green Eagles team of that era.

And don't forget the likes of Sylvanus Okpala (Hafia), Elastic Henry Nwosu etc.

O pari

Icon4s:
Tell him bro.

I so much loved that guy called Yisa Shofoluwe. He IMO was the first modern RB we had. You will almost think he was a winger. He kept Eguavoen on the bench at Maroc '88 AFCON. Yisa I think took off where his predecessor, Tunde Bamidele stopped.

As for Okay Isima, tall and lanky CB. He was the "ball player " of that defence of the early 80s.Keshi took over from him ahead of the 1984 AFCON. I had to chose between him and Stephen Keshi. And you know Keshi will take the day.

Emma Okala. Fantastic goalie. But I will put him more with the class of the 70s. His last tournament was Nigeria 1980 AFCON. Best Ogedengbe was in goal in 1982. But Peter Rufai took over from 1983 and to the rest of the 80s. Rufai has it for the 80s for me.

Obviously, like most of us, you started following Super Eagles in late '90s judging by your post. I have warned you guys before not to make these comparison across different eras post without watching the tapes of the eras you wanna compare.

First of all, you can't include both Segun Odegbami and Finidi George on the same team because they played the same position (7).
Secondly, it's absurd not to include the legendary Chairman Christian Chukwu on your all time list. Absolutely absurd!
Thirdly, to select Chidi Odiah ahead of Dean of Defence, Yisa Shofoluwe is a crime!
Fourthly, any Nigerian all time selection that omits names like (either as starters or on the bench): Henry Nwosu, Adokiye Amasiemeka, Okey Isima, and Emmanuel Okala is boshit!
